CHUD tools universal ?

Does anyone know if the latest CHUD dev tools (4.3.2) are Universal binaries? I want to use some of the tools but I noticed there are pref panes in the tool set and I don't want them if they aren't Universal.
Anyone know?
Peter

Without stating the obvious, these are development tools for the processor, low level stuff so it is to be assumed you can't develop properly for a proc through emulation. Yes they are UniB.

  • Download CHUD Tools then massive power failure

    HELP, PLEASE!!!
I've had my MACs for about 6 years now and never had any real problems. Recently however I noticed the G4 starting running quite hot and loud so I decided to use CHUD tools to cool it down a bit. I downloaded the app and ran the 'previous CHUD versions' checker as instructed. As soon as I clicked on it the machine shut down and I've been unable to restart since. (I don't think it actualy launched and I didn't get as far as installing the actual tools app)
The power light has a solid white light on when depressed, but goes no further. I've investigated the cause quite thoroughly and read all the forums about the G4 PSU failure,PRAM reset, battery changing,CPU reseting etc. I've done all of those and have the +5v trivkle on pin 1 of 24 of the PSU.
I've also tried a different hard drive in the machine - trying to ascertain whether it is the CHUD tools causing the problem (software/hardware problem?)and it still won't power up. Therefore I think that it's just a crazy coincidence that I launched CHUD and then had this failure as the 'non-CHUD infected' drive should have enabled the machine to launch I think.
So I'm wondering, I think it has to be either the PSU or power switch itself. I have the 5v trickle as mentioned, but are there further tests I can do on a 24 pin supply to confirm its status please?
If not, Is there a way of testing the power switch on the front of the machine please?
THANKS VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP!
    regards
    Dan

Even if by 'PRAM reset' you mean use of the PMU switch, you may not have hit upon the single most useful first approach to an MDD that fails to start up: resetting the MLB.
Switch off mains power at the wall or power-board. Open the door and ground yourself on the internal metalwork, Remove the PRAM battery. Unplug the mains cable at the Mac end. (This is Apple's recommendation, but I don't follow it because Australian GPOs—power outlets—are universally grounded three-pin sockets. If your GPO tests as reliably grounded, as well as switched, you don't need to do so, either.)
Wait at least 10min. Replug the mains cable into the Mac (if you separated it above), but do not yet switch on mains power. Ground yourself again. Restore the PRAM battery only if it shows above 3.3V in circuit. Otherwise, replace it with a new battery. Wait 20sec. Press the PMU reset switch for 1sec once, and once only. If the switch bounces it will be interpreted by the PMU as two presses, with an entirely wrong outcome. The PMU is extremely sensitive to stray charge, so make sure that the hand that presses the button is also in contact with the metalwork of the door.
Close the door, switch on the mains supply and start up the Mac from the touch-sensitive 'button' on the ADC display. Given nothing worse than the Mac's former confusion as the cause of its failure, you should be up and away. If not, failure of your PSU is a distinct possibility.

  • AOL Install Fix using CHUD Tools

    Hello,
For those of you who were asking about how to fix the AOL install problem on Intel Macs, here is a tip I found at macosxhints.com:
AOL seems to have a problem installing on multi-core Intel Macs. The installation hangs at "Installing Main Database." I found a successful workaround for this problem. Go to Apple's developer website and download the CHUD Tools. Once installed, there will be a Processor preference pane in System Preferences. Use this to turn off all but one Intel processor, then run the AOL installer. Once the installer finishes, turn the processors back on. Disabling CPUs solved install issues with other apps.
    JLM

Holy cow, what a piece of junk installer. SERIOUSLY?!?! The AOL engineers never in their lives tested their application on a multi-CPU machine?
Seriously. How would anyone trust something so junky to their machine.

  • Computer idling sound | CHUD tools...

    Hi there,
Since a few weeks (I guess since I installed OS X.4), I've noticed that my computer makes a subtle sound (kind of metallic) every single second. It's driving me crazy.
In the this page: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86523 I discovered that my computer makes the the computer idling sound (the first one on the page).
I downloaded the CHUD tools, but I have no idea how they works... I don't understand anything! (Apparently, it will install a System Preference pane for the processor. With it, you can disable CPU nap, which lessens the noise for some.)
And turning the speakers up a bit won't help me because I work without music... I need quiet to concentrate.
    Thanks!
    Chris.

There are various opinions on whether it will damage your machine over a period of time. It does indeed increase the temp' though (I have tested it on my 2.3 dual machine). My opinion is that you should monitor the G5 while using it with NAP off. In my case, it only varied by 10 degrees, which is not a lot.
Just do a search on the word "NAP" and you will see many emails on this subject. It was a hot (no pun intended) topic on this forum at one time.

  • CHUD tools failed to install (want to disable HT)

    hey all.
I have a 13" macbook air (2011 late version)  i love it but would like to turn off HT. i have Hyper-threading off on my gaming PC and i love how much less power it uses as well as less heat output.
well when i installed the CHUD tools it fails at the end. but im still able to install the processor system pref icon. when i open up the settings the settings are missing. like clock speeds are not being shown and if i chose to unchech hyper threading and or maybe a core the settings dont stick???
is this a known issue with macbook airs or OSX 10.7.2??
i really really would like to disable Hyper threading.  please help me out.  thanks

i have a late 2011 2.4ghz 15" mbp and am also interested inturning off HT. all the other forums i look at say There is a command you can use to turn of hyperthreading it is "sudo nvram smt=0" once you type it in it will ask you for your password. Try it and see if it changes anything becuase i have set the smt to 0 and nothing has changed for me but it may change something for you. what are you using to see how many active cores there are? istat menus?

  • Chud Tools 'Allow Nap' Problems

Hi all, before i go down the road of trying to get my powerbook looked at by an agent can anybody tell if they have had the same problems and managed to get them resolved via an apple specialist or will i just be fobbed off.
Here's the problem. I launch Pro Tools and the powerbook makes a real loud static fuzz sound. I untick the 'allow nap' feature in the processor pane of chud tools and the sound stops. Also when i'm using intense apps like FCP and Motion i get a grinding hamster wheel sound. Once again i untick 'allow nap' and the problem go's away. I think downloading a developer tool and messing with the processor isnt really much cop for a £1300 laptop. Can anybody shed any light and more importantly has anybody managed to resolve this problem.
    Regards
    Mike
PS: The sounds emit from around the top left of the powerbook and they are not coming out of the speakers.

As for the sound issues have a look as there is some idea about a fix comming in 10.4.5
    http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1519
Likely you might have more luck with the UNIX forums under support/osx technology's /unix as maybe there might be inteligent life but not when I needed it.
PS: the NAP option is not permanetly disabled and if you managed to get it permanently disabled the you should be well on you way.
I just erased / reinstalled and avoided any unneaded files/programs and mine is running like a charm.
I even stress test it with UT2004 at max playable options for 5 hours spectating online and getting some good maps in the same time and it still runs like a charm.
There where just a few creaking movement noises as the part adjusted to the heat but it runs cool @ avg 60C.
    Hope this helps.
Have you seacrhed for "disable nap" on google or macupdate.com etc. etc.
There might be a permanent fix there.

  • CHUD tools for current-gen 13" and Lion

    Hello,
I have a current-gen 13" and I'm looking to disable hyperthreading and possibly one core and underclock using CHUD tools and hwprefs:
    sudo hwprefs -v cpu_count=1
    sudo hwprefs -v cpu_ht=0
When I tried installing the CHUD tools the installer went all the way through and then told me it failed, however hwprefs is available in Terminal. Running those commands shows me this:
    * 2 processors available *
    * processor hyperthreading enabled *
I'm glad it's smart and knows that stuff but that's not what I wanted. Does anyone have experience with this?

I just sucessfully installed the CHUD tools on 10.7.2, and am now using CPUPalette.app, located in /Library/Application Support/HWPrefs. What version of Lion did you try to install CHUD on?
Alternatively, you can go into the Preferences for Instruments.app, which is installed with Lion's XCode from the App Store, and turn off processor cores.

  • New chud tools 4.6.1 - confirmed working on MDD

    Hello everyone,
I would like to take this time to say that I am happy to report the success of installation of chud 4.6.1 on my MDD 2003 dual 1.25 system. As you all know only 3.5.2 was the last known working chud tools. It appears that the new version also has nap mode built in. No further need to select it anymore. Below is a pic of the new layout:
How do I insert a picture from grab to the forums? I would like to show that 4.6.1 works?
    Help.

    Hi TTabby-
    No worries....
Might want to have a look through This if you haven't already.
I do know that CHUD 4.5 Nap mode works automatically on my single processor machine.
Can't say about dual processor G4's.....
I will check further before I make any changes here, to my otherwise functioning-quite-well 3.5.2 Chud.
    Good idea.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

  • CHUD tools

    Hello guys,
My G5 Chirrips and it gets picked up by my studio equipment.
I've been told turning off napping will sort this.
Is there anything I should be aware of when turning of 'napping' ?
    Cheers
    Mike

    Hi,
This is the way it was explained to me: Napping causes the CPU's to go to a low power mode between use, that means constant and sometimes rapid 'on, off' cycles.
"+Nap is one of 3 internal power saving modes of the CPU: nap, sleep, deep sleep.+
+Chirping is a heterodyne issue with the power supply inductors. It's usually there in most any switching power supply at varying degrees, just not usually in the frequency range of human hearing. It is triggered by large, instant power load swings+"
So turning off 'Nap' just keeps the CPU in the full on mode all the time, which is fine if you are constantly using the computer. Setting it to 'sleep' at dormant use intervals will take it out of the 'full on' mode and save some heat and electricity.
    Regards,
    Dave

  • Turning off one processor with CHUD tools

So I need to turn off one processor on my MBP running leopard 10.5.4 to solve a sound problem with Myst III Exile. When I switch to just one processor in the processor preference pane the computer slows down, which is normal, but what doesn't seem normal is that there are processing spikes that happen every 5 seconds or so. The computer seems to freeze during these spikes. I'm not running anything out of the ordinary. I have my linotype font explorer running, transmission torrent client running and thats it. Once I turn the second processor on again the computer functions normally with no spikes. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for stating the obvious, does anyone have any intelligent suggestions rather than casual observations?

  • Getting "Could not Import Universe" error while trying to refresh a Report

    Hi,
When we are trying to refresh a report in ZABO in production environment, we are getting an error "Could not import universe".
We are able to import all other universes and refresh all other reports thru ZABO.
Even these reports that are dependent on this universe are getting refreshed in Infoview and Full client. We are continuously facing this issue in ZABO.
We tried the following steps but it did not fix the problem.
    1) Go to Tools -> Universes; Select the Universe to be imported and click on "Import" - Result: An error stating "Cannot find Universe".
Click on "Refresh" button and then on "Import" again.
Still the same error " Cannot find Universe"
    2) Click on "Data manager" after opening the report. Go to 'Definition' tab -> click on "..." - Result: "Cannot find Universe" error.
    3) Go to C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Business Objects\Business Objects 6.0\lsi\
Take a backup of .rkey and .lsi files of our gateway server and delete them from that location. Then relogin Infoview and ZABO.
4)Go to Internet Options -> Temporary File Settings -> View Objects.
Delete RptViewerAX class and ZaboCheckandRunControl class and relogin infoview and ZABO.
    5) Tried creating a new Document based on that Universe.
6)Publish the universe with a different name and try creating a report based on that.
None of these trials worked out. Please help us to fix this issue.
Note: Our Production environment is reverse proxy enabled that has a time out set to 15 mins at webintelligence level. The Error is being observed with in 2 mins from the refresh process started.
    Regards
    Chaitanya

    Hi,
Go to CMC, and check the path in file store where this Universe is stored.
Follow this path and check if this universe is present there.
If you have a local copy, you could open and export this by changing the name and try re-pointint one of the reports.
If it works, you could delete the original and rename it to the original Universe.
    Regards,
    Jayendra.

  • XI 3.1 Client Tools and LDAP Authentication

I have Business Objects XI 3.1 SP2 installed.  For the web clients (InfoView) single sign on and LDAP authentication are working correctly.  However when a user tries to log in using LDAP authentication to one of the client tools (Universe Designer, Webi Rich Client, etc) the error "Cannot access the repository (USR0013)" occurs with the following details:
[repo_proxy 13] SessionFacade::openSessionLogon with user info has failed(Security plugin error: Failed to set parameters on plugin.(hr=#0x80042a01)
Are there troubleshooting or setup guides dealing specifically with LDAP authentication with the various client tools?

Make sure that the File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks component is installed and enabled on your clients.
    Take a look at note 1272536 (http://service.sap.com/notes)

  • Nap with chud in 10.5?

Will it be possible to activate nap with the so called chud tools in leopard using an mdd 867?
Message was edited by: Martin Heidingsfelder

I'm guessing here, but I think the problem with the cache showing as unavailable in CHUD 3.5.2 may be a reporting / display issue, rather than the caches really being turned off or disabled. I'm running Leopard on a PowerBook G4 1.5GHz and the CHUD Tools display the cache as off when the preferences panel is first clicked. But the machine still appears to be running at full speed.
Now, if I flick the CHUD option to 'on' (512KB L2 in my case) - no change. Flick it back to 'None' and things slow right down. Turn it back on, speed is restored, quit and reload system prefs, check the Hardware panel... and it's saying 'None' again.
It's definitely having problems, and I really hope someone can fix it properly, but I don't think there's a performance hit here.

  • Universe export - data changes not reflecting in Report

    Hi
The changes and the latest updates in the database are not reflecting in reports,
even if i export the universe again.
and i have refreshed the reports, that even not reflecting.
i did Edit query and Run query  this action also not bringing the latest data to reports
    why this happens ?
how to solve this issue ?
    Regards
    Dineshkumar

You can search for KB articles on SAP Service Market Place .
    Here is first :
    Symptom
You make changes a local Universe in Designer.
When refreshing the report, in Desktop Intelligence, the results do not reflect Universe update.
It used to be enough to simply refresh report's data, for Dataprovider to show object changes from the Semantic layer.
Change of behaviour in SP3 codeline: the DeskI Query Panel does not automatically pick up the latest modifications made to the local Universe.
    Reproducing the Issue
Using BusinessObjects Desktop Intelligence XIR2 SP3:
Using your universe (eFashion), create and refresh a simple Desktop Intelligence report (.rep).
Make a simple change to the universe (like renaming a field/ object name) and save these changes.
Go back to the open DeskI report and try to refresh the data provider using: 'Data/Refresh Data'.
This will not show the latest changes.
However, if you follow the same workflow using XIR2 SP2, the universe update will be immediately visible (in the report) simply after refresh.
    Cause
This is not a product regression, but intentional change in application's code delivered with FixPack3.1.
Fix Request ADAPT00818520 changed the application's behaviour: << When a restricted user is logged on to view a Desktop Intelligence document, prompt windows may be slow to open. >>
    Resolution
In Desktop Intelligence menu, go to:  Tools > Universes
    Click 'Refresh'
    Select and 'Import' your universe
Next, go to toolbar menu:  Data >  Edit Data Provider
In Query Panel, click 'Run' to regenerate the Query and interrogate the updated universe.
Only after following these actions will the .unv ammendments be visible in the report.
    Here is second :
    Symptom
Changes to object made for the Universe is not affected when refreshed from InfoView if we check 'Allow selection of multiple Contexts' in Universe Designer
Desktop Intelligence (Deski) Report still prompts for selection of contexts even if 'Allow selection of contexts' is unchecked for Universe
Row level Restriction is not applied correctly in InfoView(View Mode) when 'Allow selection of multiple Contexts' checked in the Universe Designer
    Environment
BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 Service Pack 2 Fix Pack 2.6
    Reproducing the Issue
Changes to object made in the Universe is not affected in InfoView(View mode) when 'Allow selection of multiple Contexts' is checked in Universe
    1. Log in to Designer
    i) Import Island Resort Marketing
ii) Go to Universe Parameter >> SQL
ii)Uncheck Allow Selection of Multiple Context
    2. Create a new Desktop Intelligence(Deski) Report based on Island Resort Marketing
    i) Drag the object Country in the Result's Pane
ii) Save and Export the report to the repository.
    3. In Designer Change the Object Country under Resort from Resort_Country.country to
    i) Resort_Country.country+'ddd'
Note: Uncheck Allow Selection of Multiple Context
ii) Save and Export the Universe
    4. Log in to InfoView
    i) View the report
    ii) Refresh the report
iii) Changes to the object taken place i.e Country is concatenated with ddd
    5. In the Universe Designer, change the Object Country under Resort from Resort_Country.country to
    i) Resort_Country.country+'eee'
Note: Check Allow Selection of Multiple Context
ii) Save and Export the Universe
    6. Log out from InfoView and login again
    i) View the report
    ii) Refresh the report
iii) Changes not taken place. Shows only Country instead of Country concatenated with eee.
Row level Restriction is not applied correctly in InfoView(view Mode) when 'Allow selection of multiple Contexts' checked for the Universe.
    Import efashion Universe
Drag the Outlet_Lookup table into the objects pane on the left hand side
Create Row Level Restriction on the state field of Outlet_Lookup table as Outlet_Lookup.State=(u2018Texasu2019)
    Apply the restriction to Administrator
Save and Export the Universe. Note: Uncheck Allow Selection of Multiple Context in Universe Parameter>>SQL
Log in to Desktop Intelligence (Deski) as administrator with Enterprise Authentication
    Create a new Deski report
Drag the object state from the Outlet_Lookup table to the Results pane
Observed that the administrator is able to see only Texas which is expected behavior
    Save and export the report
Log in to Infoview as Administrator
View the report. Refresh the report
Observed that the administrator is able to see only Texas which is expected behavior
Log in to Infoview as any user say Test User
View the report. Refresh the report
Observed that Test User is able to see all the states which is expected behavior
In the Universe Designer, Check Allow Selection of Multiple Context in Universe Parameter>>SQL for efashion Universe
    Save and export the Universe
Log in to Infoview as Test user
    View the report
    Refresh the Report
TestUser is  able to see only Texas which mean that the restriction is applied to Test User also
    Cause
This is by Design as the  'Allow selection of multiple Contexts' forces selection of the context, which is not possible in Infoview, so that in Infoview it is assumed the Context is already selected and no SQL regeneration is required.
    Resolution
Problem Description: Changes to object made in the Universe is not affected when refreshed from InfoView if we check 'Allow selection of multiple Contexts' in Universe Designer
    Explanation:
If we modify an object and selects also the option 'Allow selection of multiple Contexts', it means that potentially there is more than one SQL that can be generated with the use of that object. Hence if a report is created in Deski, run and exported to enterprise, that means, one particular context (SQL) has been selected.
If you then update one or more of the objects again, the SQL will have to be regenerated in Deski for the right context to be selected for that particular report.
Therefore, if this option is used, for the objects to be updated, the SQL of the report will have to be regenerated in Deski, run and export it back to repository, then refresh the report in InfoView.
For Deski reports viewed in InfoView, it is not possible to evaluate the context on refresh. The report will always use the context stored with the report and same for the SQL. Therefore the Deski report will need to be imported locally, refresh it and then export it back to repository for the changes to take place.
Problem description: Desktop Intelligence (Deski) still prompts for selection of contexts even if 'Allow selection of contexts' is unchecked for Universe
    Explanation:
The option 'Allow selection of Multiple Contexts' in Designer is not to disable the prompt. It will prompt you to select context if the object used is associated with context. The option is just to allow Deski to select multiple contexts at a time if in case the object used is associated with multiple contexts and accordingly generates the SQL.
However if we uncheck the option even if there are multiple contexts associated with the object used, it will allow selection of only one context at a time.
Problem Description: Issue with Row level Restriction when refreshed from InfoView with 'Allow selection of multiple Contexts' checked for the Universe.
    Explanation:
We first have to regenerate the SQL in Deski, then export it to repository and refresh from InfoView for the changes to take place correctly. The explanation above applies.

  • Refreshing universe in Deski

When creating a report, if I need to change something in the universe, is there any way to refresh the universe in deski without logging out and back it?

In DeskI , go to tools --> Universe, then select the universe and click refresh
