CIAC 3.1.1 - Machine turned on or off

Hi all
Does anybody know if CIAC 3.1.1 is able to register the state (turned on or off) of a machine? We have lifecycle options in the My Servers page and there we can Power a machine up and/or down. Is that registered somewhere in the database ? I'd like to be able to extract that information (i.e.: when a machine was turned off).
Regards

Otavio,
No, power state is not persisted in the database. IAC 4.0 will deliver real-time server power state. You may use CloudSync's extension points to track server power state in the meantime.

Bought new iMac & moved (or thought I had) all of my music from the old PC to the new iMac. Have discovered several hundred songs are orphaned on old PC; I can "see" them with both machines turned on & iTunes open. "Missing" songs show in iMac itunes Shared folder. How do I move them all so I can then & retire the old PC?

From things you are saying, such as "shared folder" and having both machines on, it doesn't sound to me like you truly moved the whole iTunes collection.

do not confuse moving your whole folder and library with moving just media files as in

Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.

  • Time Machine cannot find Time Capsule after turning auto backups off

2010 macbook 7,1 OSX 10.6.8.  Brand new rev.4 Time Capsule 2TB (MD032LL/A) just bought yesterday.
Everything set up just fine and wireless is working.  Backups are working.
Issue is that as soon as I turn the Time Machine slider to Off (I can turn it back to On at this point, doesn't matter once it's been in the Off position) in TIme Machine preferences, then try and Enter Time Machine or do a backup, it cannot find the Time Capsule (says cannot find backup volume or such).  I have to reselect the drive even though it's icon is showing right on the preferences screen.  A reboot will enable it to find the Time Capsule without my input.
If I leave Time Machine turned on, the backups run fine and I can enter the Time Machine.  It is turning off Time Machine that triggers the issue.
    Tried the following:
      -Rebooted Time Capsule
-Made sure Time Capsule name is less than 27 characters (it is 19)
      -Firewall is off
      -Filevaullt is off
      -Booted into Safe Mode
      -Repaired permissions
      -Trashed TIme Machine plist
      -Updated OSX
At this point I called Applecare and they had me send them a capture of my TIme Machine data and will get back to me Monday.
Oddly, my 10.5.8 iMac G5 2ghz is working fine with Time Machine and does not have this issue.  I can turn Time Machine off and on all I want and it can find the Time Capsule with no problem.
    Thanks for any help.

Apple is still working on the issue but I have now noticed that I cannot VNC into my work PC anymore.  I get a "Could not connect to server, connection refused:5900"
I am using Chicken of the VNC and it worked fine until I got the Time Capsule.  I know that 5900 is the port used for something and this sounds like it is related to the Time Capsule.
I can't help but think this is also related to the "Cannot find backup disk" message from Time Machine.  This all sounds like the Time Capsule goofed up the works here.
Also, I now have tons of reports in the console of it not being able to count items in a file at system/library/StartupItems.  That folder is NOT there. Which is why I assume the errors.  I have seen a few other reports and people are just restoring the file from Time Machine or making it via command line with admin.  When I go back far enough in Time Machine, the file IS there but has nothing in it.
I asked Apple about that too and they checked a 10.6.8 computer and it had the file so not sure what is up there.  Not sure if it was 10.6.8 update or the bunch of iTunes, etc that I did after that.
Have not restored that file yet, will wait to see what they say about the Time Capsule mess.
Any ideas on restoring my VNC connection?

  • Portege Z930: Loss of Fn keys after Win 8 upgrade - cannot turn WiFi on/off

After many months biding my time I have just embarked upon upgrading my Portege Z930-11G to Windows 8 Pro.
Largely this has gone to plan with the exception that after running the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant I've lost the Fn key display and about half the keys no longer seem to function at all.
The only key I ever used routinely is the Fn+F8 option to turn WiFi on/off.
So now I cannot enable the WiFi on the machine.
There must, surely, be a mean to do this but I can't find it. Does anyone have a suggestion? I'm OK for now as I have a wired LAN in the house but once I get out on the road I'm going to struggle without WiFi.
Before running the upgrade assistant the Fn key brought the key display up across the top of the screen and I surely wish I'd turned WiFi on at that point.
The Fn key utility offers very little control of the Fn keys. It does not offer the ability to do anything other than disable five on screen notifications for keyboard backlight, power plan, touch pad, cursor overlay and numeric overlay.
    All help gratefully received.
    Andrew

    > So now I cannot enable the WiFi on the machine.
First of all you can enable and disable the WiFi using function key but you can also enable the WLan in Windows 8 settings
    Win key + C -> Settings -> Change PC settings -> Wireless
Now you can use the wireless devices slider to enable or disable the WLan.
But to get the FN key working you have to install the +Toshiba Function Key Utility+ for Win 8 and +Toshiba System Driver+ for Win 8

  • Having to turn Protected mode off to view Microsoft webpages

I'm in the process of building a corporate image and I have just found out that if we go to these types of webpages
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj200580(EXCHG.150).aspx and Protected mode is turned on for Internet under security the active parts of the pages do not expand
or collapse (they stay static in their load arrangement). Turn Protected mode off and restart IE and they work.
I don't think it is only Protected Mode that has to be on but a combination of a couple of settings as I have another machine that doesn't do it with Protected Mode on.
The machines I have this fault with are 32 bit Windows 8.1 Enterprise
Does anyone else get this and know why it is happening as I would like to keep Protected Mode turned on but I can't if it produces this error.

would like to keep Protected Mode turned on but I can't if it produces this error.
Try putting that host name in the Trusted sites zone.  That would have the effect of having Protected Mode on automatically when going to those pages but otherwise leaving it off for pages that were just in the Internet zone by default.

  • Am I able to turn Universal Access off?

I work with many labs in a high school full of eMac computers running OS 10.4.11 and am having trouble will Universal Access features. The features are great for the users who need them, but in many cases make the computer unusable by users who don't unless someone knows the shortcuts to toggle that feature.
Even in a managed environment (using Workgroup Manager locally on the machine to manage accounts) users are able to use the shortcuts to invert the color, turn voiceover on, and zoom.
Does anyone know of anyway to disable Universal Access completely?

    Hello,
I apologise for duplicating this post from the Leopard threads, but it's quite short! I suggest using this as a pedagogical opportunity.
Turn on VoiceOver on one machine and blindfold a volunteer. This is more dramatic and will have a bigger impact than simply activating the screen curtain. Explain to the kids the use of VoiceOver and guide your volunteer through a simple task such as creating a postcard home in TextEdit.
When they realise just how useful VO is, and at the same time how difficult it is to navigate a machine when you can't see the screen, you should have no more discipline problems. I think all you'll be left with is a sense of awe among the kids that such a thing is possible.
And if you really want to shock them, try playing them some of the videos from the AssistiveWare site. I'd suggest using Anne's to give a short intro to the use of VoiceOver professionally, and then Marie-France's, showing just what an effect VO can have. As a tip on the latter, translate the message Marie-France types to her mother: "Maman, peux-tu mettre ma tête droite?" (Mum, can you straighten my head for me?). I'm certain the sheer punch of this simple message from someone so helpless as to be unable to put her own head in a comfortable position will put an end to any cynicism or amusement. Since most kids carry an iPod or similar device with them, you could then get them to plug the earbuds into their machines and try the basic steps for themselves—without interfering with each other.
Finally, I'd also suggest that you post up a list of the shortcuts to turn on and off the various Universal Access facilities, with a brief explanation of the role and function of each.

  • HT4628 My 20111 macbook pro will intermittently turn its wifi off

    Hello,
My 20111 macbook pro will intermittently turn its wifi off (often when it wakes up or loses signal with a  station).  It then won't turn back on unless I restart the computer.  There are also issues with my screen starting up with a much lower resolution than normal (which reverts about half way through start up to the normal resolution). and every once in awhile a patch of checkers will appear for a few seconds and then disappear.
any ideas?  are these all caused by the same problem?

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros (do this only if you know how to restore, and you have at least two independent backups.) Don’t erase the Lion recovery partition, if present.

  • Pavilion p6228p-b desktop keeps turning on and off but no display on the screen

I've been having problems with my computer since i bought a new video card. Therefore, I decide to take it off the computer and work with the one that was originally installed. On the process of taking the video card off i decide to clean it also. No chemicals or even water, pressure air alone. Ever since, I haven't been able to turn the computer on properly. The computer turn on and like a minute later it turns off automatically, and it continues doing this until i disconnect it. The power button alone won't turn the computer off. In all this process there is no display on the screen at all. By the way, the screen works fine. Can anyone help me?

on the hp site for your machine there are some updates for bios and utilities....this may help. all in all i think these machines are coming to their use by date and i myself am researching a new machine. my ol'banger may go at anytime...

  • If i turn camera roll off and leave photo stream on and back up to the cloud will all of my photos be back dup on my mac?

If i use icloud to back up my ios devices but turn camera roll off will all of my photos on my ios devices be saved on my mac? they appear to be in iphotos on the mac currently? I want to turn camera roll off from the back up as it is quite large, 19GB.

They will if you have iPhoto '11 9.2.2 or higher and have Automatic Import checked in iPhoto>Preferences>Photo Stream (iCloud).  If you do, your photo stream photos are automatically imported to your iPhoto events.
You can check by opening iPhoto, selecting photo stream (iCloud) on the left panel, then Control-clicking on you photo stream photos.  If the pop-up says "Show in Library", they have been successfully imported to your iPhoto library (Events).
Edit: You can then use Time Machine to back up your iPhoto library.

  • I am looking at an incomplete green status bar. I turned the computer off and back on. The status bar is stuck at 1/3.

I shut my mac down 1 week ago. Apparently, it chose to restart. I am looking at an incomplete green status bar. I turned the computer off and back on. The status bar is stuck at 1/3. What can I do? I have no time machine backups.

If your iMac is Intel base, resetting SMC as well as NVRAM(PRAM) could solve the problem.

  • Apple 30" Display turning on and off by itself? HELP!

    Greetings,
I'm experience this weird problem with my 30 inch display. I don't know why it's happening or to begin to troubleshoot it. So basically, I'm shutting down my computer and display every night. The next day the display power light is on by itself before I turn the computer back on, sometimes it's flashing on and off. And when I turn the computer on it doesn't change, the display just turns on and off every few seconds.
I found a temporary fix, which is to un-and-replug the display's psu either from the wall or just from the psu brick... that'll prevent the problem from happen until the next after it's been off the entire night. WHY?
Any help on this would greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead.

I'm getting the same thing myself. I also have the problem that the display sometimes flickers on and off when I first boot up. Again... unplugging the ACD power from the brick and back in again temporarily cures it. I initially thought it was the video card in my Mac, an ATI 2600XT because the card eventually died. However, I have just put an Nvidia GT120 in the machine and the same thing is happening. The display works fine with my Macbook Pro 2.6. Any ideas would be most welcome.

  • I spilled a little bit of soda on my keyboard ( more like big drops) and my computer won't turn on but it will still charge.  After i spilled it it kept trying to turn on and off by itself until i finally just shut it down

I spilled a little bit of soda on my keyboard ( more like big drops) and my computer won't turn on but it will still charge.  After i spilled it it kept trying to turn on and off by itself until i finally just shut it down.  Today i tried to turn it back on ( i spilled it last night) and now it won't turn on but when i plug it in the orange light comes on so it still charges.

TBF: You may have been lucky enough not to cripple your MBP immediately with your spill, but a spill such as you describe will have left obvious traces if you ever need to take your machine in for a repair of any kind. And as soon as evidence of the spill is found, any chance of the necessary repairs being performed under warranty will be gone.
Taking the machine in now to be cleaned and have the greasy parts replaced will be expensive, but doing so may save whatever remains of your warranty. For a price, Apple will restore the machine to like-new condition, and at the very least, you will then have a 90-day repair warranty on it. If you have significantly more time than that remaining on your original one-year warranty, and especially if you've bought the extended AppleCare Protection Plan, it would probably be worth taking the machine in to a Genius Bar for a look-over. Ask whether, if you have Apple clean and repair the machine now, your new-computer warranty and AppleCare plan will be reinstated afterward or whether all you'll have is the short repair warranty from now on. If the spill will negate your warranty and AppleCare even if you have Apple clean it, then the cleaning probably isn't worth paying for. But if paying for the cleaning will get your warranty and AppleCare reinstated, it may be worth doing.

My iPod touch is stuck in landscape view.  Even when held vertically if I open facebook or safari is rotates to landscape.  Have tried turning on and off, same results. Any ideas to fix?

Try switching it back from landscape to vertical. Or, go to settings and see if you have any special setting turned on that enable only landscape view. Also, try hooking it up to your computer and charging it to see what happens.
