Cineframe on Sony z1 (PAL)

Can anyone out there explain to me or point me in the right direction to learn more about the Cineframe workflow in FCP HD using my Sony Z1. (PAL)
I'd like to shoot in using the Cineframe mode after reading that it gives you a more film look and after looking at this clip
http://www.studiodaily.com/main/searchlist/6916.html
Can you shoot in HD or SD? How do you go about capturing and editing the footage, what is the workflow?
Cheers!

Avoid Cineframe. It tosses out HALF of your vertical resolution in order to get this "film look." It takes one of the FIELDS of information (interlaced video is two fields that constitute one frame) and tosses it, then stretches the other to fill in the gaps. HORRID.
Don't use it.

  • NTSC HDV & PAL HDV combined

    Hi,
All my Video gear is Pal.  I had the Sony A1e (Pal) which after 6 services still has the moisture problem.  I have looked for another good used one  but nothing on the net.  There is a Sony A1P for sale but I think P is the NTSC version.
My question is;  Is it very difficult or plainly not feaseable to try & mix the two formats in FCP X.

    No worries.

  • 16:9 pal footage - 16:9 FCP5 -  "IDVD6"  16:9 menus "4:3 Video? "HELP"

    Please help,
I import from a Sony FX1 pal camcorder set in widescreen to final cut pro 5 "pal Anamorphic" all lookes great through the editing and full screen play back.
Then export using quicktime setting "not 100% sure what they should be?" then I Import this into IDVD6, where the menus are 16:9 but my footage is 4:3?
I've getting it right before, wich leads me to believe it's just a setting I've cocked up somehow.
any help would be greatful. (Andy)

  • FCE-4 ingestion set up for material from a Sony TG3E AVCHD camera?

    Hi
I have a Sony TG3E PAL AVCHD camera and want to cut my material with FCE4 on my intel macbook pro. How should I set up easy set up to ingest the material? There are 3 record settings I can use on the camera: HD FH (1920 x 1080), HD HQ and HD LP (1440 x 1080 and lowest quality). All are AVCHD.
    Do I ingest at:
HD - 25 fps- HDV Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i50 or
    HD - 25 fps - AVCHD Apple Intermediate Codec 1440 x 1080i50 or finally
    HD -25 fps - AVCHD Apple Intermediate Codec 1920 x 1080i50?
The camera generates 5.1 surround sound but says nothing about what KHz sampling rate the sound is.
    Many thanks for any help
    John

    Thank you.
In Easy set up I am confused about which format to click.
In the camera manual it says the video compression format is AVCHD HD, recording format AVCHD 1080i50 and video signal PAL.
Now that you have told me I can shoot on 1920X1080 which format should I choose:
apple intermediate codec (my vote) or PAL or HD?
I put 25fps in rate - is that correct?
    Many thanks.

  • IPhone 4S movies in Europe (PAL?? NTSC??) please help

I'm having problems shooting film with iPhone 4S and importing and exporting in iMovie:
    - the iPhone uses variable framerate (30fps at bright sunlighy, less fps in darker footage)
    - iMovies asks if the project is PAL (25fps) or NTSC (30fps).  problem is that iPhone footage is neither! when choosing PAL (25fps) imovies detects iphone variable framerate footage and suggest switching to NTSC.
    - when choosing PAL (25fps), the movies looks very choppy playing on my 1st gen apple tv (on my Sony Bravia PAL tv)
    - when choosing NTSC: same problem.
how can this be? why can't I just import my iphone movies into iMovie, edit and export them to iTunes and watch them on my AppleTV.  I thought that was the whole idea??
now the only way to watch your movies filmed with an 800$ phone is on the computer
I don't use DVD: poor quality.
I have been looking for quite some time now, but can't find many people having the same problem.
Is nobody seeing the poor quality of iPhone 4S 1080p HD on PAL TV (AppleTV) or am I missing something here?

    Hi mariakapis,
If you are having issues getting your iPhone to respond or even be recognized by iTunes in order to attempt a factory restore, you may want to try putting it in Recovery mode; the following article may be helpful:

If you are still unable to restore, or the restore doesn't resolve your issues, you may need to have your iPhone serviced, or at least evaluated. You may find the following page useful:

  • Film look and Pal,what difference should I see?

    Forum,
The Sony HC9E PAL has the option to use "film".
Sony tell me this would record at 24 fps.
What difference would I see between 24 fps and PAL?
Would the difference be apparent when viewing in the canvas?
    Thank you
    Michael Craven
    PS I have FCP6.3

I'm not sure of the standards for pal but I know NTSC DV records at 30i (more specifically 29.97 interlaced frames per second). 24p (p being progressive) means that it will shoot 24 non interlaced frames per second which is the 'look' of 35mm film that you see in the movies.
The difference between progressive and interlaced flows very deep, but the most noticeable is the quality. When shooting interlaced you have every frame divided in half, one half is the odd lines drawn across the frame and the other is the even lines - this is why you get that flicker sometimes, the lines dont transfer or werent interpolated correctly. In progressive mode the frame is recorded and stored as one complete frame and therefore exhibits much better quality. So 24p will give you a high quality film like look while PAL (assuming its similar to the standards of NTSC) will give you a lesser quality home movie look.
    Hope that helped.

  • Premiere 6.5 hangs up when CamCorder is plugged in

    Hello All
I am running WIndows XP, Adobe Premiere 6.5, Pinnacle Pro-ONE card on a desk top PC.
For years I have been digitising tapes from a Sony HandyCam PAL camcorder via Firewire connection without problems.
As of today, Premiere 6.5 hangs up whenever the CamCorder is plugged in and I get the error messages shown in the attached JPG
I am sure someone has experienced this before and would appreciate any suggestions

  • Why is my calculated file size incorrect depending on bitrate?

    Hi,
I have created a sequence in PPro CS4.  It is HD 1920 x 1080 - probably interlaced as it came from a Sony SR10 PAL camera.
The sequence is 7 minutes long.
When I encode it using Media Encoder CS4, I have set it to H264 and TS multiplex.  When I set the constant/ variable bitrate to 11 Mbps, the final file is around 1600MB, at 1920 x 1080i.
    In my opinion, a 11Mbps video file, which is 7 minutes should be around 580MB.  (7m x 60s x 11Mbps / 8bits)
    What is going on?

Don't forget to calculate your Audio too.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Compressing HDV for web distribution

My source material is 1080i HDV captured on Sony HD1000 (PAL) camera.
This I've imported into FCP to make a 3 min movie with additional music.
My aim - good quality movie with a small file size
My best result after countless attempts is 22MB, up to 800kbps, with 640 x 360 dimensions following suggestions (below) to get me into the general ballpark.
    http://www.larryjordan.biz/articles/bkcompresshdv.html
This I did from Final Cut: File>Export>Using Quicktime Conversion - the only thing I changed from suggestions in link was to increase data rate, 300 kbps produced poor results for me.
I've tried the different presets (and with numerous adjustments) in Compressor 3.5 but so far I've not managed satisfactory results. (From Download, QT7 Folder)
So wondered if anybody had any suggestions to produce good quality movies with a small file size from HDV 1080i source?

    Thanks for reply
    I edited in HDV 1080/50
I've tried sending directly to Compressor but when I submit any H.264 preset I get a 'failed' message.
I've tried sample editing with a Quicktime Movie of around 600MB in Compressor - it works with this - but with unsatisfactory results (so far)
As I said my best result was to bypass compressor and go with QuickTime Conversion.
I suppose by 'small' I'm wondering if 22MB/800kbps/640x360 (3 mins) is still quite large if, for eg, the movie is delivered to a client web site - I haven't got that far yet.
I didn't actually use the term 'good looking' but not surprisingly I'm concerned with retaining as much quality as possible with such file size reduction - not sure how else to define this. I'm relatively happy with the quality at 22MB - I've just done a series of test shots so far but in future will use a tripod, manual focus and limited or no transitions to hopefully aid the compression process.

  • Black Capture screen

I'm trying to capture from a Sony A1P PAL using HDV-1080i50 to FCP 5.0.1.
Got VTR OK, got audio, haven't got picture.
Clip Settings in the Log and Capture window have video and audio checked.
All I get is a black capture window.
    AIC works fine.
    Al

One suggestion is to check if your camera is compatible with your current version of FCP.
Also check all available options in FCP Device Control Presets.

  • Migrating from cs5.5 to cc2014

Q1). Where is Playback settings in sequence settings? 2).Problem: I connected my DV Camera (Sony Handycam PAL) via Pinnacle V14 on my laptop with Win8.1, Export do not show video/audio on the Camera. Pls assit.

The Pinnacle do work with the current system (Win 8.1 + Premiere Pro cc2014), I said it earlier in this discussion that I can capture very well with it.
I was just going through the menu this morning and I saw what was missing from sequence settings in Edit > Preference > Plaback, I change the setup to Hardware (if supported) and save the settings. I connected my Pinnacle to the system via usb and i started to export to tape conveniently.

    Sequences setting HDV1080i50 present
    edited like a dream!
    exported to compressor

authored to DVD via DVD studio
Played back on 40" Sony Bravia
Horrible Horizontal interlacing lines on any camera movement
What am I doing wrong, am i missing a baisc step somewhere?
    Please help
    Martin

If you are using the new FCS with compressor 3.5, it produces terrible SD video when converting from an HD format. One workaround: change your sequence setting field dominance to "none". (To do this, control click or right click on the sequence>settings>field dominance>none) rerender and then export to compressor. Results will be much better. There is a whole thread on this over in the compressor discussion board.
