Cinema Display DVI connector replacement.

I was wondering if it were possible to get the DVI connector on my 20" Cinema Display replaced, 2 of the pins on the connector have been broken off . Does apple offer this service?

What kind of Macbook Pro do you have?  The Retina Macbook Pro needs a different magsafe.  If you have the retina Macbook Pro, you can buy the Magafe 2 adapter.

  • What connector is on the Apple 20" Cinema Display, DVI-I or DVI-D?

Sorry if this is a noob question, i just have never bothered to clarify this fact before. I have an Apple 20in Cinema display. Is the DVI connector on it a DVI-I or DVI-D type. I'm not sure what the difference is but there is obviously one so i figured i'd ask.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi 30inch-
    Welcome to Discussions!
To extend the cable on the ACD, a cable such as that which Gefen offers will serve the purpose. At issue with the 30", is the dual link requirement. As well, with all ACD's, the USB connection is important. The firewire is for convenience, more than anything, but is included in the cable set from Gefen.
The booster that is included, is important to keep signal strength, and maintain picture clarity over the distance of the cable.
With distances of less than 10', one might get by with a quality dual link DVI-D (or DVI-I) connected cable, though the issue of signal strength may be a performance limiting factor. The picture quality and monitor performance from a passive (non-boosted) cable, will be determined by the strength, or weakness of the graphics card.

  • VGA to HD cinema display (DVI-D)?

Please correct me if i'm wrong with any of this..
I have a G5 with the cinema display that outputs DVI-D. It's the one with no pins above or below the horizontal strip and with a gap inbetween the other pins. If you look at this link it will be the third one. http://cdn.overclock.net/2/21/215b66d1_all-DVI-types.jpeg
I love this monitor and what I need to know is if I can somehow connect a VGA from my PC to this apple DVI-D monitor. People have told me it's impossible to convert analog signals to digital and others have told me I can do this with an adapter. I've seen all kinds of DVI-D plugs but none of them are the exact type that I have which is supposedly a single link (whatever that means.) I have found two adapters that say they do what I want but I have no clue if they support the DVI-D plug that goes to my monitor.
This one here looks to do what I want but the DVI-D output has extra pins that I don't have. I have a gap in the middle and I don't have any extra pins above or below the horizontal strip. http://www.networktechinc.com/vga-dvi.html
This next one also seems to do what I want but I don't even see an DVI-D output. Only an HDMI output which is not what I want... http://www.datapro.net/products/vga-to-dvi-d-hdmi-converter.html
I'm beyond confused with all this DVI stuff and have no clue what all of it even means. If anyone knows of any other adapters that work or have any suggestions, answers or ANYTHING please let me know!
    Thanks!

I'm beyond confused with all this DVI stuff and have no clue what all of it even means.
And you've jumped right into a graduate level use of the Apple Cinema Display with what you propose.
Convertors may or may not work. The use of the Apple monitor with a PC (what OS?) creates further difficulties.
I would not spend money on a convertor without expressed guarantee that the 23" Cinema Display is supported.
The Apple Cinema Displays don't work like "normal" monitors in many cases.
This is evidenced when choosing KVM switches, as well. Many KVM's don't support the ACD.
Personally, I would replace the graphics card of the PC with one that is DVI equipped and supports 1920x1200 digital.
That removes one point of contention and leaves the OS as the last stumbling block.
Providing the OS is XP and later, the Cinema Display will possibly work without too much hassle (we are talking Windows, however).
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/winacd/
Vista (64) looks grim, Vista (32) maybe OK.
Win 7 may be a better bet.
Spend some time with Google before wasting spending money.

  • How to connect a PowerMac G3 (VGA) to a Cinema Display (DVI)

    Hi,
I've just bought a used PowerMac G3 on ebay. I already have a Cinema Display 20'' with DVI input only. So the problem is that the G3 only has VGA output. I now bought an adapter which totally fits: So I now can connect the G3 with the Cinema Display. However, I can't see anything on screen.
I read somewhere this is because the Cinema Display needs digital DVI signal input.
Please, is there any way to connect my Cinema Display with this VGA PowerMac G3?
I am thankful for every comment or idea!
    Regards, Canubis

    Hi,
    thank you for your reply.
It seems that really is what I was searching for. Except the fact that we're talking about a price range, where I can get another display with VGA für my G3. Mh so well, before buying the 700 dollar converter I could rather buy a big mac mini and would even have more performance for a smaller price...
However thank you again. I now know there is a solution although it is not very cheap and there may be more affordable ones.

  • XBox HDMI output to Apple Cinema Display DVI input

I have an iogear DVI KVM, a mac pro and an xbox360 with HDMI output that I want to somehow convert to DVI so I can use my Cinema display to game on.
    Is this possible?
Out of curiosity I bought an HDMI to DVI gender changer to see if I could hook it up that way.
    No result.
I figure a conversion must be needed to make this work.
has anyone done this, If so, could you post your hardware setup or recommend a converter.
    thanks

The splitter sends the same signal to both displays, but they need different resolutions to work.

  • Kitten + New Cinema Display = need cord replacement :(

Well, my cat chewed through the USB cord that is part of the set of three cords that comes out of the beautiful new LED Cinema Display that I bought. Not the nicest morning surprise. I will be covering the cords or shutting the cat out of the office from now on. In the meantime, the USB cord is no longer functional. Fortunately, the power cord and the Mini Display port cord are fine. I am able to plug my keyboard directly in to my MacBook Pro, and use the display that way.
My question is this: Since I rather expect that either the power or the Mini Display port or both could end up fraying, getting chewed, not working, etc. - are there replacement options for these? Really, I'd like to have the USB cord working, too - so if it's an easy thing, I would like to get the cable replaced now. I am very worried that I will lose $800 worth of equipment because of a need to have a new cable. (The cable doesn't appear to be removable - does anyone know?)
    Thanks for your help.

Apple could replace the cable, but it won't be cheap. Find a local computer repair store and see if they can cut the end off a new USB cable and splice it on to the display's cable. There are only four wires in the USB part, and if they use shrink tubing over the splice, it shouldn't look too ugly.

  • HT2810 apple cinema display sometimes needs to be unplugged and plugged back in multiple times to turn on  any ideas for a fix?

apple cinema display will not allays start
i need to plug and unplug multiple times for ti to start.
any thoughts ideas would be helpful thanks

Okay, Mr. Easthills, you have an imac, but yet you mention apple cinema display....Hmmm, curious. you could try zapping the PRAM, hold down command (apple?), Option+P+R keys while rebooting mac. Hold down for 3 chimes, then let go and boot normally. I have this problem too, and I have a 20" widescreen apple cinema display(DVI connector--did I just date myself or what?),anyways, it's behaving itself now okay, but it tended to go dark right in the middle of whatever I was doing, and only unplugging the power cord to the display, and replugging in it would fix it for a while. sometimes it would happen again, and again the same solution.  As to why it happens now with Yosemite, I don't know .  This dear old monitor has lasted me about 8 years and it's still going just fine.. not state of the art anymore, though...
oh well, good luck to you

  • Vga to dvi with cinema displays?

are the aluminum apple cinema display DVI-I or DVI-D? we have some extras and some people with vga computers (analog out) want to use the monitors. will a vga to dvi-i adapter work with these displays? or are they dvi-d (digital signal only)?
    thanks

DVI-D digital only. A cheap VGA to DVI adapter won't work. You would need an expensive VGA to DVI converter, such as

  • Is there a way to connect iPad2 to my previous gen DVI Cinema Display?

I have an iPad2 and I have looking for ways to use my previous generation Cinema Display (DVI) as an external monitor, but it looks like VGA-out and HDMI-out are the only options. Has anyone managed to connect iPad through DVI connection?

Search for HDMI to DVI adapters. There are many. DVI-D or DVI-I is backwardly compatible with HDMI video but not DVI-A. DVI will not carry audio. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#Compatibility_with_DVI

  • ADC to DVI connector cable - 2 for 1?

Will this cable enable me to run a data projector from the ADC port at the same time as the monitor attached to the DVI?
    G5 Dual 2.5   Mac OS X (10.3.7)

Can I use the Belkin ADC to DVI Connector Cable to
connect one of the DVI displays to the ADC output on
    the G5?
    Yes.
If so, am I right in assuming that I still use the
Cinema Display power connector in addition to using
    this adaptor cable?
Yes. The adapter just provides the digital video signals. You still need to plug in the power, USB, and FireWire (if needed) cables from the display
All the documentation seems to be restricted to G4s,
When the adapter came out the only ADC computers were G4s. They haven't updated the documentation, but it will work on a G5.

  • ADC to DVI connector

    Hi,
Apologies if this is frequently asked/answered, but I find it difficult to find a completely straight answer anywhere.
I have an older Power Mac G5 with an AGP 8X Pro graphics card (with one ADC and one DVI connector).
I have just bought 2 new Apple 20" DVI Cinema Displays.
Can I use the Belkin ADC to DVI Connector Cable to connect one of the DVI displays to the ADC output on the G5?
If so, am I right in assuming that I still use the Cinema Display power connector in addition to using this adaptor cable?
All the documentation seems to be restricted to G4s, and for some reason the cable doesn't seem to be carried by the online Apple Store here in the UK.

  • 23" Cinema Display Hinge is Broken

Does anyone know where I can order this part (it's the hinge/base device that attaches to the back of the monitor)? I've checked with both of my local authorized service shops and they want to charge me around $450 plus leave the monitor for several weeks. I just want the part so I can install it myself (about 10 minutes of work).
    Thanks in advance,
    Craig

    Hi,
I don't know whether this will be of help but last year I started having all sorts of problems with my 23" Cinema Display. I replaced the power supply 'brick' - but still had problems (blank screen etc) - read lots about issues with these displays. I was running 10.4.11 - In the end I tried re-installing the system on another drive up to 10.4.8 - and it's worked fine ever since (it also cured a number of other weird problems) - ok, so I can't get the latest itunes software - but at least I have a screen that works. It seems that anything above 10.4.8 causes problems on my G5 Dual Power PC.

  • Blown 23" Cinema Display -- main board? or Inverter?

I bought an Apple OEM Nvidia Geforce 3 for my G4 Cube, and the idea was that it should power my 23" Cinema Display (clear). But the monitor became blown when I connected it to an incompatible video card -- although the power light comes ON, the screen fails to illuminate.
I'm hoping that someone can contribute to a diagnosis of my Display's problem. Here is the situation:
The online Authorized Reseller "The Mac Support Store" sells various parts for this monitor. There appear to be two choices:
    1) The main board for the 23" Cinema Display is offered here:
    http://www.macsupportstore.com/product.asp?pf_id=922%2D5582
    and...
    2) the inverter board is offered here:
    http://www.macsupportstore.com/product.asp?pf_id=922%2D5581
But which one should I buy?
I realize this is pretty lame, inviting a stranger to diagnose a monitor he's not seen, but... you never know. Maybe you know what you're talking about. You probably know more about it than I do.
Is there a good reason for suspecting that the blown Display is the main board? Or the inverter board?
    Thanks.

  • 27 Cinema Display flickers on cursor change

    Hello,
I've recently purchased a 27" Cinema Display and hooked it up to my mid 2010 13" MBP. Everything works fine except for one really annoying thing: The Cinema Display flickers when the mouse cursor changes. I've done a thorough search through the community threads and haven't found anybody who's experiencing the same problem. Could anyone please tell me if they've run into this issue, and if so if there's any way of fixing it.
    Thanks!

Might be related to the thread below.
To give you a quick summary, try either of the following:
    - use your macbook's charger rather than the cinema display magsafe connector
    - increase the brightness to 7 bars or more
    - simply unplug the magsafe used by the cinema display

  • Clear enclosure 23" cinema display with DVi connector?

    Hi all,
I went to a local Mac store (Not Apple) where I was shown a supposedly 23" HD cinema display (clear enclosure) with a DVI CONNECTOR directly built in. I was under the impression that all clear enclosure versions natively came with the ADC connector and that if DVI was warranted, a converted was necessary. To my surprise, Apple apparently made two clear enclosure versions, both ADC and DVI. I've verified under the spec. area of this site. But, there were no 23" clear enclosure with DVI, except of course, the current 23 version which is the aluminum. So, was the more likely scenario that this rep. had shown me a 22 with DVI or is there really a 23 version with DVI. I was convinced at the time myself that it was a 23 clear enclosure version with a DVI connector. I saw with my own eyes that this display did not have a converter connected and it looked like the 23 as opposed to a 22. The 22 & 23 looks so similar and can be mistaken for each other. One of the ways of identifying readily is that the 22 has the power/brightness controls near the bottom right of the casing. Could someone confirm either way. Thanks!

    Hi-
I agree that the rep probably showed you a 22" DVI model. See page 8 of the 22" Cinema Display Manual for the cabling of the display.
You will see the DVI version of the Cinema Display listed in this article. The article was put out prior to the Aluminum housed ACD release.
