Cinema display prevents G4 tower from turning on

I moved my perfectly working computer to a new location and when the cinema display is connected to the G4 tower it does not turn on. If I disconnect the monitor, the machine powers nicely, and in fact I am using it now as an internet connection for my wireless laptop. If I then connect the display, the computer loses power. Any clue what's going on?

ADC displays have power control pins in the connector. Look closely in the connectors on the graphics board and display cable for bent pins.

  • Is there a way to prevent an image from turning blue when selecting it?

I'm exported a pdf from InDesign that will be used as a brochure for one of the exhibitions at our museum. I'm wondering if there's any way to prevent an image from turning blue when a reader clicks on it. Since all of the images are works of art, I'd rather that they not change color when people click on them.
I changed the security settings so the images couldn't be copies, hoping that would prevent the blue square, but it didn't help.
    thanks for any suggestions.
    Chris

There are several ways to do that and here are but two of them.
    1. If you want to make a new image you can right click on the channel, click on Duplicate Channel and under Destination>Document, select New
    2. If you want to add a new layer to your document, click on the channel in the channels panel, go to Select>All, then Edit>Copy, click on RGB in the channels panel and then Edit>Paste

  • How to prevent internet sharing from turning itself of automatically

There is any way to prevent internet sharing from turning of itself automatically wen the analog modem is disconnected?
At home i have to use an analog modem to connect to the internet (no adsl coverage), under Snow Leopard i was able to create a wi-fi Network to share files and connection between an iMac (connected directly to the internet), an iPhone, a MacBook and a Ps3.
With lion, apple introduced a new feature in the internet sharing tools: in fact the wi-fi connection is turned ON only when the modem (or the selected internet source whatever it is) is connected to the internet, when i disconnect it all the network is turned Of.
So, there is any way to keep alive the network also when the modem is disconnected, like when i was under Snow Leopard?

hello, can you please try it with firefox 33 beta. it should no longer interpret a one word entry into the address bar as a domain, that it tries to resolve first, but sends it as a search term to your chosen engine right away: https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/channel/#beta

  • Connecting DVI Cinema Display and VGA Projector from Minidisplay Port

    Hi Everyone!
I'm trying to get my mid 2011 Mac Mini to send a signal from my MiniDisplay Port to a vga splitter which works fine. My biggest thing is that when I connect my inFocus IN112 VGA Projector the screen shows up from my mac but to connect my Cinema Display it takes VGA so I had to go from the VGA Splitter on one side and use a vga to dvi adapter and my cinema display shows blank? Help Me Please!!
    Thanks,
    Andrew

I already have a converter on the end of the VGA Splitter to go to the Cinema. The reason I don't use the hdmi to dvi is because with the minidisplay port using vga to the projector and the hdmi going to dvi to the Cinema it makes the projector screen very rough and pixely

  • Two 24" LED Cinema display and getting audio from both

I have two 24" LED Cinema displays connected to a MP. Is there a way to get the audio to play through the speakers on both displays at the same time? I can easily switch the USB audio to either display, but I cannot figure out how to play audio through both at the same time. Thank you for the help,

You can hijack the audio from any application, or the system audio, with Audio Hijack Pro
    <http://www.rogueamoeba.com/audiohijackpro/>
You can then use its Auxiliary Device Output effect to send the audio to multiple devices.

  • 27" Cinema display flickers when woken from sleep

I've noticed that my 27" Apple Cinema display flickers briefly when woken from sleep.
I have had the display for 8 months, and haven't noticed this before.
It flickers (or flashes), just once when the display wakes when the computer is woken from sleep. It only affects the bottom third of the display.
Once it has properly woken, and flickered once, it then works o.k.
    Has anyone else had this?
    Thanks.
    Bob.

Yeah - I'm trying to verify that 100% right now. I know that I won't get full functionality from the TB dispaly (no TB, FW or ethernet on the back of the monitor) but if I can get video and USB between the Mac and the displays, that would be enough. I haven't seen any docuemtnation anywhere deatailing wether or not that TB displays will work with existing video cards / Mac Pro's, or if I'll have to do a full round of upgrades including my Mac Pro and the ATI 5770. And as you know, there are no TB video cards on the market at this time. My timing basically *****...
My plan was to return the Cinema Displays while I still can, fall back to a spare Dell 21" that I have lying around the house for a few weeks (yukkkk..), and then figure out what to do with the TB diplsay as they get closer to release. I'm contempling upgrading my Mac Pro, but if I can stick with what I have, it would save me some cash.I woudln't even mind upgrading my video card, but I just dropped $2000 on these 2 Cinema Display's last week, and I feel like they are already outdated.
PS - I am constantly selling gear, so resale value and having the "latest and greatest" are pretty important to me, hence the interest in the TB displays.

  • Horizontal shifting bars on MBP 15 after disconnecting 24" LED cinema display and waking up from clamshell mode.

I use my MBP 15 (late 2011) with 24" Apple LED Cinema display in a clamshell mode. After disconnecting external display, and opening display, it shows horizontal shifted bars, so it becomes completely unusable. Have to hard reset laptop. Any hints on how to resolve this? Thanks.

Ok, more information for anyone that might care. The wake-up seems to be the familiar dark wake in order to go into hibernate mode. Except now, it's a death wake. Looking at the logs, I see that it happens exactly 70 minutes after sleeping, even though hibernatemode = 0 (which shouldn't hibernate at all!)
So my power settings look like this:
    Currently in use:
    standbydelay         4200
    standby              1
    halfdim              1
    hibernatefile        /var/vm/sleepimage
    darkwakes            0
    gpuswitch            2
    disksleep            10
    sleep                10
    autopoweroffdelay    14400
    hibernatemode        0
    autopoweroff         1
    ttyskeepawake        1
    displaysleep         2
    acwake               0
    lidwake              1
standbymode is 70 minutes, what a coincidence. I'm going to try setting it to 0 and see what that does.

  • How can I run a 27" Apple Cinema Display and another monitor from my MacBook Pro?

    Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a brand new 15"  MacBook Pro to replace my old one. I was told when ordering it that I would be able to hook up two external monitors to it using the Matrox DualHead2Go hardware. So, I also bought a 27" Cinema Display (non-Thunderbolt since it wouldn't work with the DH2Go). However, when I contacted Matrox they said their products don't support screens as large as the 27" ACD.
    Bummer!
So, my question is: does anyone know how I can hookup a 27" Apple Cinema Display at 2560x1440 and a Acer 22" monitor at 1685x1050 (or, anything less really) to my new MacBook Pro?
I've looked around and haven't been able to find a good answer.
    Thanks for your help!

Will something like this work? A USB to VGA adapter? Can I use this at the same time that I have a Cinema Display plugged into the Mini-DVI port and will they both work at the same time? Anyone know?

  • Preventing iTouch screen from turning off during enhanced audio book play

I have created an enhanced audio book (.m4a format) using GarageBand. When playing this file back on an iTouch the screen automatically turns off approximately every minute. Touching the screen will turn it back on, but I would prefer that the user not have to repeatedly touch the screen during playback.
Is there a setting of ID tag that I need to change to prevent the iTouch screen from automatically turning off?

Thanks for the suggestion. I had my iTouch autolock set to 1 minute, which appears to be what was causing the problem. Changing it to "never" has resolved the issue.
    Thanks!

  • Cinema Display won't wake from sleep

After reading lots in the forums I've concluded lots of people have the same problem that we are mistakenly thinking is specific to a particular monitor or Mac or behaviour.
Problem: Display suddenly does not wake from sleep - incidentally after an OS update and Cuda update.
Hypothesis: This definitely seems like a software problem as I've solved it in so many new ways. (Some people are replacing hardware!) Once fixed, the problem recurs the next time the display goes to sleep. However solutions rarely work a second time.
    Solutions:
    1. Zapping PRAM fixes it.
    2. Deleting all displays preferences fixes it.
    3. Safe boot and clear caches may have fixed it.
    4. Pulling the Mini DisplayPort cable and blowing on it has fixed it. (I thought it was dusty since it worked. It may have just been pulling the cable.)
    5. Deleting a power management preference in System/Library/SystemConfiguration/ fixed it.
    6. Moving the power plug from one slot on a power bar to another fixed it. (***!?!)
    7. Creating a new user account fixed it.
    8. Now I'm stuck.
Please can help me think of a new way to fix it? If I can get it going again, I will simply keep the computer and 2nd display awake forever.

    I have a new fix!
    8. Launch Magic Bullet Looks app and fiddle with the display settings!!! Woohoo! I got it back again.
As long as the display never goes to sleep and is never unplugged (tried that) I can keep using the monitor. Sadly this means never lettting the new iMac sleep.

  • Installing Airport Extreme card prevents my computer from turning on again

I have a 867MHz 12" Powerbook and I tried to install an airport extreme card that I bought on eBay. After it was installed, my computer would not even turn on. I thought it might be just my computer, but then I tried it in my Powermac G5 and it did the same thing. Perhaps I got ripped off? Any help?

Yeah, I made sure that I did that. It is odd that the machine won't even turn on with the card installed. I don't see how it could affect the power.

  • After installing Mountain Lion my MacBookPro crashes after disconnecting from Cinema Display

Ever since I installed Mountain Lion on my 15" MacBookPro (early 2011 first with Tunderbolt connector) it crashes after disconnecting from Cinema display (this Cinema does not have Thunderbolt but mini display port). It woked fine under Lion.
This crash occurs in following situation:
MacBookPro is in closed clam shell operation. When Cinema display is still connected, I put MacBookPro into sleep. Then I disconnect Cinema display mini diplay connector from Thuderbotl port.
When I get home and open MacBookPro it is in deep kernel crash.
    It happens every time.
Any ideas how to fix this?
    Thanks
    Rich

  • Cinema display 24" burned and died

I wonder if anyone can give me any advice. I bought the £650 24" Apple Cinema Display 18 months ago from the Apple Store. On Friday I got a burning smell and it died.
Took it into the Apple store on Monday. They said it is out of warranty and that they could repair it for £500 - LCD fail.
Does anyone know if I have any consumer rights with this? Surely I should expect a £650 monitor to last longer than 18 months? At the time of purchase they didn't even offer me an extended apple care warranty.
Apple products usually have such long lives. I have an 8 year old ipod and 4 year old MBP and they are both still going strong!

Update: This may be useful for anyone else who has had the same issue.
Took my display to an independent but Apple Authorised repair centre where I had them run a diagnostic test on it. Turns out it was the logic board which had burnt out which they said was a manufacturing fault.
So the £500 repair quoted by the Genius Bar actually turned out to be £80.
I also had this repair done free of charge as I used my my consumer rights - the Sales of Goods Act 1979. This applies to the UK only and should cover you for up to 6 years.
It also states on the Apple warranty page that in the EU they cover items for 2 years if it's proved to be a manufacturing fault.
Thanks Apple, my cinema display is now back on my desk
Hope this post may help someone else in the same predicament!

    Hello,
I have bought new mac mini (late 2012) with OSX 10.9.4 installed on it.
I have apple cinema display (20"), model: A1038 from before. When i turned on mac mini the display was not detected.
I also have one Samsung monitor which was detected without problems.
    I tried next steps already:
    - connect only apple cinema display with HDMI to DVI and turn on coomputer
    - connect only apple cinema display with mini displayport to DVI and turn on coomputer
    - connect both displays, went to System preferences -> display and click on 2Detect display"
    nothing works
    Specs of my mac mini:
    mac mini (late 2012)
    processor: 2.5GHz Intel Core i5
    OSX: 10.9.4
    graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000
Have anyone idea what is wrong?

  • Older Apple HD Cinema Display is detected but no picture

Forgive me, as I know this is an often-asked question but I have searched and can't find a response that fixes the issue.
    Yet.
So I have a Mac Pro (circa 2008) that works fine. The Apple Cinema Display is even older from about 2004 (I think).
Everything was working fine and I was video editing and Photopshopping to my hearts content.
I had noticed that recently the display would not come back from sleep without rebooting the computer.
So that might have been an early clue.
Then this morning I came home from taking the kids to school and the Mac Pro fan was running loud and no image on screen.
I rebooted the computer. This time the monitor displayed black and white vertical lines.
    "Oh joy," thought I.
    I rebooted again.
This time nothing but the heart of darkness.
    Nothing.
I reseated the video card (as that has been a culprit in the past) and rebooted. Still no image. Did all the PRAM, unplugging the computer, waiting a minute plugging back in, plus all the other keyboard tricks one reads about. Still no joy.
I then tried the monitor on my MacBook Pro to see if it was a computer issue or monitor issue. No image from the MacBook Pro either.
The Macbook Pro did detect the display though and showed it along side theMacbook Pro screen is the Display Prefences.
I also ran the MacBook Pro in Traget Mode to the laptop so i could run diagnostic checks and repairs uisng Apple Utilities and Disk Warrior. No problems were detected on the Mac Pro (tower).
I then connected a Samsung monitor (that the kids watch Netflix on) and that worked fine on both the laptop and the Mac Pro tower.
So I have isolated the cause to the Apple HD Cinema Display. The video card and other hardware tested out fine.
Any thoughts on a fix or what the issue might be?. I can get by with Samsung as I am on deadline - but would rather have my trusty Apple Cinema screen back.
    Many thanks.
And good karma to all who give it a head scratch.
    A

Yeah I use my screen saver more often now and yes it's the white windows and desktop icons that ghost the most not horrible and my warrant is a few years past. The genius is wrong to accuse you that's just plain silly. The first apple 30 inch I bought had green lines and after a few trips to the store they sent it off to be repaired but in the end I think I got a different monitor back. Three and a half years later this started to happen. It's like short term burn and it's pretty subtle. I'm an audio guy so if I were a graphics person and this was my main rig I would be more upset. I just hope it does not continue to get worse. I have an older 22 inch with the clear plastic and it does not have the issue. It only starts to do it after it's been n for few hours.
Good to know I'm not the only one, thanks for posting.
