Cinema HD Display no longer comes on immediatley when G5 turned on

My 23" Cinema HD display no longer comes on immediately when I turn my computer on. The screen stays blank for a few minutes, until I press a button on the keyboard. When the screen finally comes on, the set up for a blue tooth keyboard is displayed. I have the keyboard plugged into the monitor. It has been working fine for the past 8 months. Has anyone seen this before? Do I have to schlep this whole thing to the Apple store for repair?
G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

How do you resolve this? I have the same issue.  No power when usb is plugged in.  Replaced power adaptor and it didn't help.  Just blank screen.  Seems like these monitors should hold up better then this.

  • HT2810 Apple HD Cinema Display will not come back on after brief power cut.

My Apple HD cinema display won't come back after a brief power cut.
There is the little white power light on the front which pulses on three times and then extinguishes, repeatedly.
The Mac itself seems to power up although it's hard to tell if it's bboting properly, as I cannot see anything on the screen.
There is power going to both units so I have no idea what is happening.

This sounds like a very common problem.  If the blinks are one short, one longer, one short..... long pause... repeat.... start searching this forum.   There are also Youtube videos on solving it.  If this is the problem, the solution is easy.  You block both center pins on the 10 pin power connector.   Its crazy but it works.

I just used a very thin strip of paper folded in half and slipped into the display's connector so it covers ONLY the two center contacts, then slip it into the power module very carefully.  Make sure there is some slack in the paper as otherwise it will tear and the contact will still be made.  If it doesn't work at first, try again as the paper made have torn in process.   It would be better to use something stonger like a very thin strip of mylar.   Or you can do what the video shows, but I didn't try that exactly.

  • My iPod is showing a white screen. I could not see anything. But I can listen to songs by blindly pressing the play button twice. The battery comes only for an hour.? How do I get the display and longer battery?

    Hello Friends,
I've two iPod Nanos (4th gen - 8GB). I'm facing a severe problem with both of them. For both iPods, I tried to do this method Simultaneously press the top button + home (central) button. But of no use.
    1. My first iPod is showing a white screen. I could not see anything. But I can listen to songs by blindly pressing the play button twice. The battery comes only for an hour.? How do I get the display and longer battery?
    2. My second iPod is facing more severe problem. None of the buttons are working. When I connect it my PC it showing "CONNECTED- eject before disconnecting". But it is not ejecting with all the usual methods. When I manually and physically disconnect it from the PC the same "CONNECTED- eject before disconnecting" is still showing till the battery goes off. After that if i press any button it is showing low battery signal. And when i re-connect it to the PC the same process is repeating. When I tied to restore it to the factory settings I'm getting "Error" report.
    (I'm using windows 7)
Friends, Please help me with the above problems. It will be a great help.
    Thank You.

Sounds like some hardware issues, meaning you'll want to take or send the iPods in for service or repairs. You can choose to have Apple do an out of warranty exchange for the prices indicated in the link below or find another third party service perhaps even local to your area.

  • Buttons on 20" Display No Longer Work

For the past two years I've been using my 20" Apple Cinema Display (the one with the white edges, not the newest version) with my 12" PowerBook by connecting it through Apple's ADC to DVI adapter and plugging it into the Mini-DVI slot on my PowerBook. It worked great and I especially liked how the power button on the display would turn the computer on without the need to open the lid of the PowerBook.
I just bought a Black MacBook Pro last night, used the Migration assistant to transfer over my User folder. All works fine except the buttons on the display no longer does anything. I'll push it and it will glow but it doesn't seem any signal is sent to the MacBook. The display works fine when plugged in but neither the power button or the brightness button works anymore with the new MacBook.
    Very frustrating...any ideas?
MacBook 2.0 GHz Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4)

While its hugely unlikly to be RAM related and more than likely the problem is due to lack of support via the DVI connector. I would probably look in two places…
    1) The cinema displays forums…

It is possible this issue exists with other Macs and the solution posted.
    2) Call AppleCare. You are current covered by the 90 day telephone support so there's no harm is simply asking.

  • Just got iMac 21.5 can't get image on Apple Cinema HD display - is it thunderbolt issue?

I just got my new iMac 21.5" desktop and tried to connect my 21" Apple cinema HD display. I have power to the external display but no image - screen blank. I'm wondering if it is a cable issue even though the adapter I used to connect this monitor to my MacBook Pro fit the thunderbolt port - is this a port or adapter issue?

In continuing my research on this topic, I found this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5198
Short version, the 23" Cinema HD is among one of several older "vintage" Apple displays that are no longer supported under Mavericks. No brightness control, and it's likely to not work reliably at all. I can't say why I was able to use it for as long as I did with no problems. I take all this to mean that the display itself works fine, but not with my new MBP Retina.
Though a tempting excuse to spend another grand on a 27" Apple Thunderbolt display, I opted for a $250 HDMI monitor from Fry's instead.

  • Buttons on display no longer work

We have an Apple Cinema HD display (23", I think) that has been in use for a couple of years and now the power and brightness buttons on the side no longer seem to work. They just don't do anything at all most of the time. So sometimes when the computer is being booted the monitor will not turn on. At that point we'll have to unplug/plug the display and try again. We may have to do this several times before the button will finally work and the monitor will come on.
Anyone have experience with this? Is this something that is fixable?

Hmm... I didn't notice this post already. I made a similar post here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1897005&tstart=0
I'm having the same problem. My power button works intermittently... Rather my monitor will only turn on when it feels like it. When it's on the power buton works 100% of the time to turn it off. The trouble is that once it's off, it may not come back on.
I'm not sure if the brightness buttons are affected for me as I hardly ever touch them.

  • Cinema HD Display not working - flashing lights

    Hi
Ii have two 23" cinema HD displays on the mac listed below. they have worked fine for ages, but today i turned on and one of the displays did not come on, instead the power light flashed periodically with a long pause then a short flash, long flash and short flash.
i have searched for solutions and i found this article for LCD displays:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2811
which stated that this kind of flash means the power adapter isnt working, but i tried swapping the adapted/power cord with the other display without luck.
    this other article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA40898?viewlocale=en_US
which states it may be the backlight, but i wanted to try here to see if there was any other potential solutions, if not whats my best bet with getting it resolved?
    things ive tried:
i tryed the problem display on it's own to make sure it wasnt a problem with having dual screens, it still didnt work.
I tryed swapping the power adapter, the adapter seemed to work fine with the working monitor, and the other one didnt help with the faulty display.
I tryed both display sockets in the back of the mac to make sure the connection to the mac wasnt the problem.
i thought the cable which runs to the display to the power adapter may be worth trying to swap, but while i thought this was removable i couldnt seem to disconnect it from the back of the display and didnt want to pull too hard incase i broke it is it fixed?

I had the same issue and appreciate your links, thanks. However the indication (short-long-short) was not accurate. I switched adapter with no luck, but when I switched to another 23" Cinema Display it worked fine as in your experience.
There has to bee something else wrong with our monitors. I was lucky, we had two others standing around so I'm all set.
I have no other information that might help you, sorry.

  • Can anyone refer me to a good repair facility for an Apple Cinema HD Display 23 in? Like other displays of this model, it has an internal short that causes a flickering display.

For several years I have had a flickering or black display problem with my Apple Cinema HD Display 23 inch, model M9178LL/A. Like other displays of this model production it has an internal short that causes the flicker and burns out power adapters. I ahve taken it to the Apple store several times and they just kept selling me replacement power adapters instead of fixing the short. At my recent visit, they told me that they no longer support this model and that I have to find a third party repair facility.
Can anyone refer me to a reputable location who can do the correct repair. There are discussions on the Internet how to work around the short problem with electrical tape on the middle connector pins, or how to open the display to fix it myself, but I do not have the eyesight, skills or equipment to do this correctly.
    Thank you.

My MacBook Pro has a Thunderbolt port and I have just bought a Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adaptor to connect to my 23" Cinema HD Display which works fine on my old MacBook Pro.
However, although my new MBP can detect the display, the monitor does not switch on and there is no sign of life.

  • Is it possible to connect MBPR with Cinema HD Display 30" 's Firewire Port for iSight

I want to buy a external iSight for my old Cinema HD Display 30" ,as i don't have enough space to open my notebook to use the built-in iSight camera.
I know they are very old item, but i think they have very beautiful design and great quality, i want to use them
I have already using the 30" Display by Dual Link-DVI converter, i don't have any firewire device, i don't know is it still work for using Thunderbolt (MacBook) -> Firewire800 (Adapter)-> Firewire400(converter) -> Cinema HD Display FW port -> external iSight
or is there any other solution for me?
or should i give up this setting

  • External Display No Longer Working (Air & Thunderbolt)

My MacBook Air just decided it no longer wants to work with my external Dell U2711 display via Thunderbolt to DisplayPort cable. Frustrating as this has been working for the past 3 years. Currently running OS X 10.10.2. Have tried PRAM and SMC resets to no avail. Not sure what is going wrong, but looking at the error log it is obviously trying to set it to the wrong resolution "1440 x 900". Previously everything was working great with a resolution of 2560 x 1440. Thoughts?

    Howdy Haknat,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.
If you're still seeing no image on the external display after resetting the SMC and PRAM, then the next step I'd like you to do is to start the device in Safe Mode.
    Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.
If you tried all of these steps for your display and the video issues persist, contact Apple technical support or take your Apple computer to the nearest Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for diagnosis. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).
Note: Diagnostic fees may apply for issues not covered under warranty or the AppleCare Protection Plan (APP).

  • External display no longer works after Mavericks install

I have a minidisplay port to DVI adapter that connects my Macbook Pro to my television through HDMI port (cable is HDMI to DVI).
This has worked fine for over 2 years, but as soon as I upgraded my Leopard OS to Mavericks, it stopped working.
A side topic is that my Android TV media centre also stopped working as it can no longer connect to my Macbook Pro (it used to work for the past few years).
What am I doing wrong? How can I solve my problems? I have tried everything on the forums, but nothing works at all.
Help, please, pretty please with sugar on top and a cherry!
    Carlos

I'm not sure how installing an application would cause that to happen. Have you shut down (powered off) the iMac completely, and then restarted, since this problem occurred?
Some display settings are stored in PRAM, so if you have not already, try resetting PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If that does not help, you can try disconnecting the iMac from power and reconnecting it, using the reset SMC (power management) procedure.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
When you reconnect it, initially connect the iMac to a wall outlet, by itself. Leave all peripherals disconnected, except for your USB keyboard/mouse. Make sure it is working properly, then connect only the external display.
If it still does not work, as a test, start up with your Mac OS X installation disc. You are not installing anything, but note if the second display is displaying the background image or not when you are booted from a different system.

  • KVM switch one Cinema hd display (dvi) with macpro (dvi) and macbook pro (mini displayport)

I want to use a KVM switch to share one display with two computers.
Computer one is: MacPro 1,1 dual core 2.66 Ghz with two DVI ports.
Computer two is: MacBook Pro 4 core 2.66 GHz with one Mini Displayport.
Display is: Cinema HD Display with DVI connector.
To do that KVM switches only use (at least that is waht I found) one system either DVI or Mini Displayports
    http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=3113
    DVI --> KVM SWITCH<-- DVI
                         V
                   DVI (monitor)
    http://www.atlona.com/Atlona-2x1-Mini-DisplayPort-KVM-Switch.html
Mini Displayport (Macpro) --> KVM SWITCH <-- Mini Displayport (Macbookpro)
                                                             V
                                                     DVI (monitor)
    However what I want is:
DVI (Macpro) --> KVM SWITHCH<-- Mini Displayport (Macbookpro)
                                           V
                                  DVI(monitor)
I couldn't find an existing KVM switcher that does this.
Then there is the following solution
DVI (Macpro) --> KVM SWITCH <-- ADAPTER (Mini Displayport to DVI) <-- Mini Displayport (Macbookpro)
                                        V
                                DVI(monitor)
The question is: Will this work?
I've been told that adapter behind adapter never works. Hope someone can help with this before spending money on nothing.
    Thanx David

Maybe you're right just try and see if I can return the stuff if it's not working.
I won't be using a higher resolution then 1920 x 1200 however I still would buy the adapter
Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA3Ng
for connecting macbookpro to KVM DVI switch.
However if there's still someone with experiencing the exact same thing I would be much obliged.

The sound will no longer come through my headphones on my iPad I've tried several different headsets.  The sound works as normal without the headphones but will still not come through the headphones even thoug I have tried to reset it twice. This is the new ipad with retina display and is only 2 months old and otherwise works fine. Please help!

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPad. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPad: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
Apple will exchange your iPad for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

A third-party place like the following will replace the jack for less. Google for more.

    Replace the jack yourself
