Cinima 20 Display at startup - desktop picture is fine then darkens

When I restart my computer, my background picture fills the screen and it looks like it always did before it quickly changes. After an instant the picture changes by darkening. I have no idea why, but it just started to happen. I have been digging to try and figure this out, but have not found anything yet. Any assistnace would be greatly appreciated.

Could either be the power supply (the brick) or the backlight circuit board. Can you bring the brick to an Apple store to test it? If the brick works fine, then you will have to return the display to Apple.

  • Desktop Picture folders missing.....

I installed mountain lion and noticed alot of desktop pictures missing.  I did a re-install but nada.  I looked in the desktop pics folder and they simply arent there.  The old "Nature" "Abstract" etc are gone, just random pics (about 35).  Only other folder is the "Colors" folder.  Anybody else experiencing this and did you find a fix? I called Apple but they didn't know how to fix it or why it didn't install with Mountain Lion.
    thanks

Okay, thanks Barney. I seem to be able to add and subtract individual pictures in the default folders, but (as you said) I can't add more folders to the main library folder. I was just trying to keep all of my desktop picture categories in one place, but as it is now I'll have to be happy with two places. I keep the majority of my photos in my user/pictures/"more desktop pictures" folder - and then I add them in using the + button. I do find it annoying that they show up in a different section (below iPhoto) in the system preferences window. Oh well.
    Thanks again,
    John

  • 10.9.3 on iMac 27", dock displays near middle of screen, desktop picture isn't covering whole desktop. Anyone else having this annoying glitch?

    Hello Everyone.
I upgraded an iMac 27" (3.4 Ghz, Intel Core i7, 3TB fusion) from Mac OS X 10.8.6., to Mac OS X 10.9.3 a few days back.
Ever since then, the 2nd user to login on a given day, gets the dock displayed near the middle of the screen. It still interacts OK (e.g. you can launch applications from there), but it is not in it's correct location. The desktop picture (in this case, a shade of solid dark grey), only covers the smaller desktop area (up to where the Dock is). The remaining area of the screen automatically gets a 'light grey' background colour.
So person A logs in, no problem. But when person B comes along (with perosn A still logged in), the user logins, and they get this 'chopped of' version of the screen, with the dock mid-screen. (See screenshot attached).
The users can still click on any dock icons, and the applications will open up. But the dock won't return to it's original home, and refuses to 'jump' back to their proper home (at the bottom of the screen).
I've tried using CSCREEN to change the resolution at startup, via a terminal command and Automator, but that only works on some occasions. Others (like the attached screenshot) boot with the two-colour background, and 'confused' dock. A manual screen resolution change in the Settings area (down and then back up again), resolves the issue for that boot.
I've tried stripping back all non-essential plug-ins, tried removing a variety of start-up items, add-ons etc. I've tried creating a 'test' account, and the same issues appear to this account too.
Is it just me, or are others having problems with a misbehaving dock / screen resolution, in Mac OS X 10.9.3 / on an iMac 27"?
    Thank you!
    D.

    Hi folks.
I found a solution...Looks like the Dock is the culprit it's self. So, I made an automator app that I fire up automatically at login time. The automator app runs a shell script command:
       killall Dock
(make sure you have a capital D on Dock)
The Dock gets closed off, and it then re-opens in the correct spot (bottom of the screen -- not the middle of the screen). Hope this helps someone else!
    Enjoy.

  • Desktop picture on display

I have my Macbook Pro configured to change the desktop picture on login, and that works fine. However, I have it hooked up with the 24" cinema display, which will not ever change the image. It chooses one I select, but never changes it when I power down and up again.
Is there a way to get the display to take the same picture as the laptop, which changes each time I login?
    Thanks
    Shelley

When you have multiple monitors each uses a different configuration. What you want to do is plug in your display then open Desktop and Screen Saver Preference pane in system preferences, make sure you are on the panel for the external display and then check the "Change picture:" and set for on logon. That should do it.

  • My desktop picture on startup reverts to apple pink space and not the photo I selected in preferences.

When I start my iMac the desktop picture is the apple red and pink space thing. In the preferences I have chosen a folder containing pictues and selected to change the pictures every 5 seconds and that works fine but when I shut down or restart the apple red/pink picture comes up so how do I correct this problem?

Thanks I have just rebooted it, but still to no avail, have you got any other suggestions? I've inserted a couple of
images to show you exactly what I mean. As you can see the toolbar at the top there are no buttons on safari or finder, only a couple the rest have disappeared.

  • Desktop pictures do NOT rotate/change on secondary display

For some peculiar reason, my desktop pictures do NOT change / rotate on my secondary display.
I have a MacBook Pro 15" (Late 2007) running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and I have dual displays. My primary display (the MBP screen) DOES change / rotate picture every minute, but I want my secondary display to do the same.
It seems that restarting does fix it, but only temporarily. I think it might have to do with plugging/unplugging the secondary display and sometimes if it's working, I disconnect and reconnect the monitor and then the pictures stop rotating.
All my desktop picture settings are correct in System Preferences. I tried unchecking then rechecking the "Change picture:" checkmark, but that doesn't fix anything. I also tried clicking on different folders in the left column of the Pref Pane, then clicking back on my chosen desktop pictures folder.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I discovered that for this particular file if you check the "random order" box under Desktop preferences, then the pictures will rotate like the rest of the photo files in the collection

  • Desktop picture not displaying properly

The background desktop picture has two bands (top and bottom) that are pixelated. How can I fix this? This has started since I upgraded to Yosemite.

    Try  Reset  PRAM.
Some  of the display settings are stored in PRAM.

  • Private Photos App - pictures not displaying This app was working fine, then suddenly it won`t display any of the photos.

This app was working fine, then suddenly it won't display any of the photos. One day the photos were there, gone the next. It still shows how many photos are there but just shows a white screen. I can't export anything to the photo album. Adding photos to existing folders yields the same result, only white screen displayed. However, I can create new albums and add photos to those without issue. Does anybody know how to recover the "missing" photo"  I was going to try reinstalling the app but it's no longer available in the iTunes App Store. Thanks, Tracy

1, you can't at the moment, though with iOS 5 in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :
Even organize your photos in albums — right on your device
2, by removing it from you synced from and re-syncing. Only photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad (either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view)
3, the location of the photos that you synced to the iPad should be listed on the iPad's Photos tab when connected to your computer's iTunes.
4, you can copy the photos from your iPad to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 . You should also be able to delete them from the iPad as part of the transfer process to your computer, and it's then your choice whether to add them to your sync photo list so as to copy them back to the iPad. Copying them to your computer would allow you to organise them into folders and therefore be able to sync them back into separate albums.
5, I don't use Dropbox either. There are some third-party browser apps in the iTunes App Store that allow you to download pages so that you can view them when offline e.g. Atomic Web (the whole page is saved within Atomic Web, it doesn't place a photo into the Photos app)
6, deleting content should help. If you remove an app from your iPad then you also remove the content that it's got on the iPad - so if you then decide to reinstall it back onto the iPad then you will need to manually add back any content that you want in it. None of the Apple built-in apps (including Photos) can be removed from the iPad

  • Why doesn't my desktop picture stay on my Macbook Pro Retina Display?

I select my desktop picture, and it puts it as it. But once I shut my computer off and turn it back on, it's back to the Lion desktop picture. But when I go into the system preferences, it says that my picture is the one that I selected before. I don't get it, can someone help? Are any of you having the same problem?

Try right clicking the picture and say Set as Desktop Background.

  • Garbled display at startup when connecting to External Monitor - MBP Early 2011.

    Hi,
When i connect my Early 2011 MBP to an external display i get a garbled display at startup.
I then have to disconnect the hdmi cable to the external monitor, after which the display clears up (on the laptop) and then when i reconnect the external monitor, it works fine. The problem with this process is that i have to do it each time i start/boot my laptop with the external display connected. The display mode is currently set to mirror displays if that helps.
Would appreciate any advice users with this kind of set up can provide. Thank you in advance.

    Welcome!!
It could be that you are using the external in "mirrored mode" with the res set above the max res for the MBP screen. On my Late 2007 MBP, the F7 key toggles between mirrored mode and "spanning" (or "extended desktop") mode and System preferences will let you set the two displays independently. I use an external monitor in spanning mode and have not experienced a problem as I have the internal display prefs set to a comfortable res for its hardware.

  • Only Desktop Picture on TV

I connect my macbook pro to my tv using the mini dvi connector and vga/svga cable, and all i see on my tv is the desktop picture. How can I watch a movie or actually see everything else from my macbook on my tv?

When you plug in any monitor, by default it acts like a second computer monitor...an extension of your desktop. If it's blank, you probably haven't put anything there yet. I'm sure if you dragged something over to the second monitor, like the DVD Player window, it would not be blank anymore.
If you want the same thing to show on both your MacBook Pro and your TV, you must turn on "mirroring" mode. Do this either in the Displays icon on your menu bar, or using the "Mirror Displays" checkbox in your Displays system preference, Arrangement tab. The Arrangement tab also lets you arrange the monitor icons to match how they are in your room so that dragging a window past the correct edge crosses over to the other monitor (when mirroring is off).

  • Desktop pictures: is there a limit to number of pictures

    Hi there
I have a folder full of pictures (ie 6 thousand) that rotate through the desktop.
Is there a limit to how many pictures I can have in the source folder and still have the display & computer functioning all right?
Also, does changing the pic every 5 seconds have a negative impact on the Mac?
    thanks in advance
    denis

That is not the best idea in the world to be using a folder with that many images.
It requires a lot of memory usage to change the desktop pictures every 5 seconds, especially when it has to cycle through thousands of images.

  • Changing desktop picture every 1 second instead of 5

    Hi All,
I'm opening a retail store and we're using 30 inch cinema displays for our menu boards. I'd like to use OS X's built-in "change desktop picture" to display our image, but would like it to change images every 1 second instead of 5.
Is there a way to modify the OS to do this?
    Thanks,
    - Mike

Install either the Developer Tools or download the Server Admin Tools onto your computer; in either case, find and open the Property List Editor, and open the file named com.apple.desktop.plist in your home folder with it. Inside this file, there will be two or more instances of ChangeTime; change the number associated with all instances of this key to 1.
