CIRCLE w/ Line thru it. DO NOT ENTER error.

I have since replaced this MMD d-125 but can't get over that it might be easily solvable. Simply put it starts out as usual grey apple w/ the time circle spinning underneath apple icon......but after a minute you realize something is wrong and between 3-7 minutes it will spin then ultimately freezing up on this grey circle w/ line / slash thru it. I have other MACS - PCs die, fry, just fail but it usually means i get NOTHING on the monitor.
-If i hold OPTION down on start i do get my HD options. But when i try booting from a disc that same error. I have old Hardware test [1.2.6] that did reveal an error on startup. the code was (post/16/4096).......this does give me some hope, the system is doing things but the fact i can't boot from a CD points to motherboard issues. i want to be smart about this, an apple cert. repair wants $60 and i replaced this once $2400 system for $400, yeah i know....but thats why i want to repair it myself by finding some 'repair' app or is there a way to completely 're-set' the hardware part ? what is Nortain ? or any other apps that can diagnose and repair, or other ideas ie : PR reset, keys you hold down on boot that bring me to startup and then i reinitialize it......i don't know. It hard to let go when i did some cool stuff on that MAC and its nice to have a back up.
any ideas ?

  • My MacBook won't restart..only get a circle with line thru it..

My computer froze,so I tried to reboot it and when I go to start it,it gets like a 1/3 of the way thru the rebooting stage and then it's go to a grey screen and a circle with a line thru it comes up and nothing still works...please help!!!

Can you boot into your Recovery partition (holding down the command and R keys whilst booting)?
If not, try booting into Internet Recovery by holding down the command, option and R keys. EVENTUALLY you'll see a globe on screen and, after that, the Recovery screen.
If you're able to get to the Recovery screen by either method, open Disk Utility and see if your boot drive (usually named "Macintosh HD" unless you've changed it) is shown in the column to the left. If it is, select it and click on the Verify button. If you get a message in red text that your disk needs to be repaired, click on the Repair button. If the drive can be repaired, you'll get a great text message telling you that the drive now appears to be OK - you should be able to just restart if everything fixed on the drive. If the drive can't be repaired, however, you'll get a red text message telling you that the drive cannot be repaired.
If the disk can't be repaired, you'll just have to purchase and install a new disk.

  • While performing Yosemite update this evening get a Circle with line thru it

When I came home today I noticed I had a pending Software Update (to Yosemite).
I applied the update and after downloading and installing the Yosemite it rebooted a few times.
During one of the reboots it froze and a black screen appeared with a Circle and a line running through the circle.
Now when I manually reboot my MacBook Pro it displays the Apple Logo and then displays this Circle with a line thru it and stops.
Was I suppose to have updated to this Yosemite? Why did it crash my MacBook?
Any assistance would be really appreciated.

I would be remise if I didn't post my solution to this issue which I toiled with for over 4 days.  I too got this got this circle with a line through it after the first install, the second install after a restore from my Time Machine, the third install after I installed clean then tried to migrate my data from time capsule, and finally my fourth install after installing from a USB follow by a migration.  Each of this took about 14 hours a piece as I have close to 1TB of data (gotta get rid of some stuff).
Finally I was convinced I could boot in SAFE mode, but even that didn't work but I was able to boot in Verbose mode(command-V).  While watching it boot up I noticed an error that lead me to my final solution.  I can't remember it exactly but it said something about PGPwde whole drive encryption.  After racking my brain I finally remember I had installed PGP tools or something like that.  I booted into recovery mode (command-R).  Pulled up the console and followed these steps to remove PGP manually.

Keep in mind I had to find my data under the Volumes directory of the root drive.  So instead of /Library it was /Volumes/<name of your hard drive>/Library.  If the drive is not there you might have to mount it, but there are plenty of references on the internet on how to do this.
This did the trick and after a restart Yosemite came right up.  Not sure if this is exactly the fix for everyone, but if you book in Verbose mode(Command-V) I would bet you will see whatever culprit is causing the issue.
    Hope someone finds this useful.

    Hi!
After 6 hours of experimenting, disconnecting devices, formatting my hard drive (joy!) and getting nowhere, I found the problem: apparently, Leopard has trouble dealing with some characters in the volume name (in my case it was '). Rename the volume to something simple, short and with no weird characters and the Leopard will install.
And, to Apple: I'm very disappointed with the quality of the Leopard install. If a character is valid in OS X, the setup should support it!
    Best regards,
    IYan

  • Circle with line thru it

what does this mean, when sending a text message, has not been delivered?

The red circle with the line through it means that the message was not sent. Either you ran out of service while sending the message, are the party receiving the message service is off. Hope this helps!

  • Unit totally locked up.  now get startup sound and blank screen with red circle with line thru it.

My Macbook is about 4 years oId. I was doing an Excel spreadsheet(apple office suite), went for a short break, on first keystroke the unit totally locked up with the spinning beachball. My mouse could move that around but that was all it could do. After about 4 minutes, needed to force quit it by holding down start up button. let it sit for a couple of minutes and then tried to restart it. I now get the start up chime followed after a short spell with a grey screen with a red circle with a red line though it right in the middle of the screen. tried about 3 more times with the same result. I hope it isn't dead because my project was about 95% complete and just about ready to print.
Any ideas how to revive the ol' girl?

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately more serious then that. took unit to the apple repair techies and needed to replace hard drive. It had a total catastrophic failure and none of the info was recoverable That is a bummer as my last project was quite time consuming and almost complete. Good news I guess is I now have a much larger hard drive memory. Also had them put in much more RAM so now she is purring like a kitten again and a lot faster. Hopefully it will be a while before the swirling beachball of death appears. Thanks again for trying to help.

It looks like you might not have patch installed.  What happens when you type
    pacman -Q patch
If you get an error that the patch package is not found, install base-devel.

  • Why won't my quick Silver power mac boot up?  Has a gray screen with white circle with slash thru it in the middle of screen!

Gray Screen with white circle with slash thru?  Will not boot up!  What can I do?
    Please help!
    Noel

The circle with slash means it cannot boot from the drive it thinks it's supposed to boot from.
Hold the Option/alt key at bootup, what shows as boot choices?
Will it boot from your OSX Install Disc?
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

    Hi, master hunter.
The most common meaning of this symbol is that something in the operating system is damaged.  Here is the best resource when troubleshooting this behavior.

  • What does the red circle with a line thru it mean?

I'm exhausted! Trying to find an answer to WHY iTunes won't allow me to drag a song to my iPod Nano?  It was originally an MP3; I unzipped the file; I played it in iTunes song list; it had a ! next to it; iTunes asked if it should find the file; iT found the file; the ! was removed; I played it again in iT; when I tried to drag it to my iPod, THERE WAS A RED CIRCLE WITH A LINE THRU IT????  I have yet to find--i googled and youtubed and appled til my eyes and brain and fingers ached and burned ;(--what the SYMBOL means?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
I have been able to download similar audio of this nature...Not sure why this one is BLOCKED?
    Thank you!

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
From your description "little circle with a line in it", that sound like a symbol when you are trying to do a cannot do operation.
What exactly are you doing in your edit activities when you see this circle with a line in it? Is it at the end of the mouse cursor?
Can you post a screenshot of it?
If my first impression of what this is happens to be correct, then "How do I get rid of it?" answer comes from
    a. defining what you want to do
    and
    b. correcting any mis-steps you are taking in doing that
We will be watching for your follow up.

I have successfully exported subtitles (XML files) from FC version 7 to FC version 6, by choosing Apple XML Interchange Format Version 4. Now the exported subtitles suddenly read in one long line, at the top, not registering any "Enter" keystrokes. The same happens even if I re-import the XML file into Final Cut Version 7 (from where I exported the subtitles). Any tips on how to fix this?

You might see if you can bring the xml file into Title Exchange Pro

If it reads correctly, you can probably save it back out.
If you want to send it to me, I'll see if it opens.

  • All-in-one 6830 printer Does not enter sleep mode when connected to a phone line

HP staff  help. HP all-in-one printer 6830 does not enter sleep mode when conntected to a phone line via 1-Line jack.  The Firmware is PNP1CN1521AR. On August 1, 2015,  I purchased an HP all-in-one 6830  printer and upgraded to firmware PNP1CN1521AR.When a phone line is connected to 1-Line jack of 6830, the printer will no longer enter  sleep mode and the display remains on indefinitly.Removing the phone connection either from the wall outlet or from the printer causes the sleep mode to work correctly again where the control panel display turns off after 5 minutes (or optionally  after 10 or 15 minutes). This problem was previously reported by a user and has not been resolved, see:http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-Printing-Questions/Sleep-mode-of-Officejet-Pro-6830/td-p/4772182 The user did not receive a resolution to this problem according to the thread.
There seems to be a  6830 printer firmware or hardware problem causing this. HP  should be able to confirm this problem on 6830 easily.
    Please advise ASAP.
    Thanks

It's a regular analog phone line. I've tested it with other phone lines. No difference. I have another all-in-one printer which works fine (goes to sleep mode) when plugged into the same phone line.
The 6830 works ok in other aspects. The only problem is the sleep mode. Any 6830 with the firmware I mentioned should replicate the same result, regardless of anything else. The previous firmware to PNP1CN1521AR also created this problem according to the original report of this problem by another user.
I'm sure there's a bug in the firmware. A subroutine in the firmware monitoring the incoming fax ringing, mistakenly, sees the voltage across the phone jack pins as an event and wakes up the printer instantly even though there's no ringing. As the previous user also suspected, there seems to be an error in the phone line voltage threshold used by the firmware. The present firmware always sees a ringing at the phone line which causes it to never stay in sleep mode.
