Cirrus Logic snd-cs46xx - No soundcards found [Solved]
I have a new Thinkpad T22.
alsaconf successfully finds my Cirrus Logic CS 4614/22/24 Card, however, I need to load snd_cs46xx manually.
After loading the modules, it is visible under lsmod.
/etc/rc.d/alsa start give me an output of:
/usr/sbin/alsactl: load_state:1236: No soundcards found...
Any ideas will be appreciated
Snowman wrote:IIRC, without the sleep 5, the module is loaded but you end up with muted sound level. It seems that the problem is that udev hasn't yet created the sound devices when the alsa script tries to restore the sound volume.
I don't know if it has been fixed. Maybe moving alsa to the end of the DAEMONS array will give more time to udev to create the device so the sleep 5 won't be necessary anymore. I might test that out.
Sounds about right. I reinstalled Arch and did not add sleep 5. Now the volume is muted at startup

Soundcard not registering [Cirrus Logic HD Audio]
Maybe this has been said before, but I'm running the bootcamp (3.1).
I haven't seen any improvements to the driver for the soundcard.
I run two different media recording programs on my mac, but the XP side won't
recognize the soundcard (most programs enable use of recording directly from the sound card itself) on any of the programs (I've tried several different programs leading to the same outcome), it only registers the microphone.
Has anyone encountered this problem as well?
I know there's a fix posted for the realtek drivers, but the cirrus drivers still have the problem. It's October 9th, 2010... and I can't find a solution for this. I'm using Bootcamp: Windows XP SP3. My mic works -- only playback is stuck at like 2 or 3 times slower than the regular speed. I don't know how to fix this manually and my assumption is that I need a driver. Playback voice sounds like an alien in programs I use for gaming such as "Ventrilo" -- If there is any help out there -- I could use it.
Cirrus Logic HD Audio not playing back at normal speed. Records fine. Just nobody can understand me if I talk to them via my mic. -
Sound problems (load_state:1608: No soundcards found)
Hey there!
I am having troubles with my sound devices. It was running very well until yesterday when I did pacman -Syu. Unfortunatelly I can't remember which packages have been upgrade exactly... :-/
The first hint of a problem is that the alsa daemon is giving me this error message:
[root /etc/rc.d]# ./alsa start
:: Restoring ALSA Levels [BUSY]
/usr/sbin/alsactl: load_state:1608: No soundcards found... [FAIL]
[root /etc/rc.d]#
My soundcard is the SupremeFX II Audio Card which came with the Asus Motherboard Maximus Extreme.
Like the wiki told me the following information might be helpful:
[root /etc/rc.d]# lsmod|grep '^snd' | column -t
snd_hda_codec_analog 83184 1
snd_seq_dummy 3540 0
snd_seq_oss 36224 0
snd_seq_midi_event 8592 1 snd_seq_oss
snd_seq 64640 5 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi_event
snd_seq_device 8324 3 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq
snd_hda_intel 31208 1
snd_hda_codec 82000 2 snd_hda_codec_analog,snd_hda_intel
snd_pcm_oss 47328 0
snd_hwdep 9944 1 snd_hda_codec
snd_pcm 90808 3 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_pcm_oss
snd_timer 25344 2 snd_seq,snd_pcm
snd_page_alloc 10752 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm
snd_mixer_oss 20976 2 snd_pcm_oss
snd 76712 11 snd_hda_codec_analog,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_pcm_oss,snd_hwdep,snd_pcm,snd_timer,snd_mixer_oss
[root /etc/rc.d]#
To me, this looks ok. Am I right?
Now the next thing, ls -l /dev/snd, which is a bit weird. I did this a few mintues ago and everything seemed to be okay. There were some devices similar to the output here http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Adv … are_loaded. I thought I might give OSS a try and installed it with pacman -S oss. I edited /etc/rc.conf accordingly but it didn't work. So I decided to prefer solving the problems with alsa. I did "pacman -Rs oss" which removed both before installed packages "kernel26-headers-2.6.32.7-1" and "oss-4.2_2002-2". I changed /etc/rc.conf again back to the state before the oss installation. And now, there is nothing left in /dev/snd:
[root /home/user]# ls -l /dev/snd
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 60 Feb 3 12:05 by-path
[root /home/user]#
I also can't load the modules manually as described on the wiki page.
[root@QX9450 /home/mm]# modprobe -v snd-hda-intel
[root@QX9450 /home/mm]# modprobe -v snd-pcm-oss
[root@QX9450 /home/mm]# ls -l /dev/snd
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 60 Feb 3 12:05 by-path
[root@QX9450 /home/mm]#
What can do now? Perhaps it would already be helpfull to know which packages have been upgrade by pacman -Syu. Is that possible, somehow?
This is really important to me as no sound is a total pain in the ass... Especially as I have nearly no time to play around with these things because I have a lot private stuff going on... so please, help me if you can.
Thanks a lot!Dear yvonney
In any application I can freely choose between ALSA or OSS drivers. I can hear sound in each configuration without having to unload or uninstall neither ALSA nor OSS modules.

Incomplete ALSA support for Cirrus Logic CS4206 chip?
Hey gang! First a bit about my system. I'm running the 2.6.35-ARCH kernel on my macbook pro 5,5 which has an HDA NVidia soundcard with a Cirrus Logic CS4206 chip. I have my audio playback working through ALSA (arch packages alsa-lib, alsa-oss, alsa-utils, alsa-plugins) and have installed jack2-svn, qjackctl, and ardour3-svn.
My goal for the time being is to be able to track on ardour, recording from my internal mic. (I have an audio interface but no other mic at the moment) I know this is less than ideal but I just want to be able to record so I can start learning ardour while I save for a mic
My Problem seems to be with ALSA. I can get my jack server up and running, and Ardour recognizes it and makes the connection. (unlocking my memory is something else I need to figure out). Ir have tried every combination of input/out configurations for my master, and initial audio track but I when I do hear input from my mic it always is with the same quirks. There is a large amount of hiss and distortion of with audio, the level meter never changes as if ardour doesn't think anything audio is playing, and when ardour records this distorted input no waveform is shown but the sounds do playback (and once again no movement of the level meters).
Now this is what my alsamixer looks like with F5 (view all):
http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/6092/alsamixer.png
It would seem that I have no input device selection abilities in the mixer. I can change the the volume of capture and turn on and off the left and right channels of the capture. (in the screen I understand that only the left channel is on. it just created less distortion this way). But the same problems persist in ardour. Obviously wrong somewhere in this chain of processes!
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks so much for your time!ok.. problem solved, had to reinstall alsa and then pulse audio and again start playing with things with alsa mixer like nagoonee recommended,
thanks ! -
Get this error when trying to install Logic patch 9.1.4 to my machine.
An eligible Logic Pro version was not found in the Applications folder. This update requires Logic Pro version 9.0 or higher.Thx, but i had already read that and tried it: did not work.
Got it fixed now by reinstalling Logic Studio 9 from DVD.
That indeed creates the Logic Pro folder in Applications - something I had tried earlier by simply moving my existing Logic folder. This means the Logic 9.1.5 update does not simply check a folder name: there must be another entry/registry entry it checks. Reinstalling Logic Studio from scratch solved it for me.
After reinstalling thought Lion forgot my Focusrite Saffire 40, so no DAW. Solved that by reading a forum entry on beta drivers.
So I am happy, music creation wise.
Left for me is to solve the X Mail application saying it does not run under Lion!

Cirrus Logic CS4206A (AB 11) in 15" macbook pro i7 on Vista x64 not working
I am trying to get the audio working on my brand new macbook pro 15" i7 on Vista x64. It says the chip is Cirrus Logic CS4206A (AB 11) but there are no drivers available on the internet. I'm using the BootCamp 3.1 that came with the MBP's Snow Leopard 10.6.3 install dvd.
Currently Vista says
Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)
Thanks!I solved this on my laptop just now, but not quite sure how.
I uninstalled the driver, and clicked the checkbox when uninstalling the driver to delete the files.
Then, after rebooting, it worked. I suspect it worked because I had earlier installed other drivers, which it then defaulted to. I installed the realtek audio drivers off the Mac OS X cd, but I suspect that wasn't it.
I installed cirrus logic drivers from here:
http://www.cirrus.com/en/support/lic/lic3.html?uri=/en/pubs/software/CS4207WinVista_Win7_32-64-bit6-6001-1-21.zip
Or maybe it was the vista drivers I got from:
http://www.stuffedcow.net/macbook_audio
Or maybe these two sources drivers' are the same - and I did just get it from the cirrus site
If you get it working, I recommend you reply here and state exactly what it was that got it working for you. Just make sure to uninstall the driver and in doing so delete the files too (there's a checkbox in vista). This way it will default to what appears to be older drivers if/when you install those.

I want to use ASIO4ALL Driver with my bootcamp but somehow it does't work and it's menu appears blank. I heard updating Cirrus Logic driver helps, but I ran across an error. The download link for Win7 is broken and I can't find it anywhere else on the net. If anyone has it please share. Thanks
Thank you very much for your fast reply.
I just came by to report another working solution i have found ...maybe this will help others
I downloaded the drivers package from here:
http://driverdepot.blogspot.de/2012/04/macbook-pro-win7-drivers.html
Then went to the device manager and updated the driver by selecting a file from disk and selected the one inthe sound folder from the archive.
ASIO4ALL works fine now.
If I experience any issues I will try your solution aswell.
Thank you again
best regards -
The new 338S0987 chip from cirrus logic, used in the new 4s has inferior sound quality to the old cs42L61 chip found in the 4 and 3G. Can the 338S0987 chip be improved?
The new chip is very compressed and has hissing artifacts. It sacrifices sound quality for reduced energy consumption. This is a problem for me because I am building a musical instrument app that is adversly affected by the new cirrus logic chip. Audio fidelity is suffering.
Is there any chance for a software/driver tweak of this chip, or my I please request an improvement on the next iphone model?

[Troubleshoot] Cirrus Logic CS4206A (AB 32) issues
Hi,
I brought my iMac back in december 2011 and have been using the default microphone ever since, recently I've noticed that the quality of the mic had deteriorated and so I decided to buy a new one. I purchased the Sandberg Headset One (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sandberg-125-26-Headset-One/dp/B003OYOBY0) with the headphone splitter adapter, the microphone works perfectly on OSX and is very good quality for the price, although when I'm on Windows 7 via bootcamp the microphone stops working alltogether and the default iMac Microphone is all the works, the headphones on the headset still work, it's just the mic that is malfunctioning. I've tried to install new drivers for the Cirrus Logic CS4206A (AB 32) sound card but no luck getting the microphone to work at this point.
Does anyone know how to solve this issue and get the microphone to work on Windows, or has anyone else experianced this issue?

this is the last problem i have with boot camp. I finally managed to run the boot camp driver install thing, which fixed all the driver problems except that i still have no sound, i have tried the built in speakers, headphones, and some external speakers, but none of them are detected. Also, the sound works fine in Mac OSX mode, just not in windows.
I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit, so i would probably need the drivers for that OSI solved this on my laptop just now, but not quite sure how.

I installed Lion OS X and Logic Pro won't run. I downloaded the 9.1.5 update: "An Eligible Logic Pro Version Was Not Found in the Applications Folder. This Update require Logic Pro Version 9.0 or higher". I have Logic Pro Version 9.1.1 installed.
I even pulled the dmg file into the Logic Studio folder in my applications directory and it still does not recognize it. What do I do now?Niel: Thanks.
For others benefit, here is what happened.
I had installed Logic Studio 9.1 some time ago.......not knowing what all the programs were nor what they did, I created a "Logic Studio" subfolder in my applications folder and put all Logic Studio programs into it so I'd know where they were and could review each at my leisure over time.
My assumption now is that when the updater looks for the Logic Pro program, it looks only in the applications folder. It seems lame that it would not also look in the subfolders of the applications folder, but that apparently IS the way it works. Because my Logic Pro program was located in the "Logic Studio" subfolder, the updater just didn't see it..hence the error message I received when I tried to update.
Solution: I moved all the Logic Studio programs out of the subfolder and now they reside in the applications folder. Ran the 9.1.5 updater and it worked like a charm. -
Error "a qualifying copy of logic or mainstage was not found"
Hi,
I write from Chile, South America. I hope someone of you can help me.
I have problems to install Logic Pro X, When I was installing the program (after downloading the basic content) battery I just MAC and this is shutting down (did not have the charger).
Then when I went back to try to install the progress bar always stays in "installing"
Manually downloaded the "ProAudioCoreContent 10, but when I try to install it tells me" a qualifying copy of logic or mainstage was not found "
Someone of you know that you can do in this case?
I hope someone can help me.
EduardoHi Data Stream Studio
I try, try deleting any file outside logic pro X, but when trying to install again, the progress bar stays in "installing" and the processor running full.
As that is processing information, delete information that maybe I do not know where it is on the Mac. -
Cirrus Logic won't display 1024x768
Greetin's again.
As from my previous thread I mentioned that my GF6 6600 blew out and now it's back at the manufacturer hopefully getting replaced. My friend loaned me a cirrus Logic card... unsure as to what kind it is but either way...
I'm trying to get it to display at 1024x768 resolution but it refuses to do so.
Trying to get it to display at 24 bit just produces 3 of the same images. One in the top left corner, one in the bottom right and one in the middle, each hued a different color. Blue, Green and Red (not in that order.) 16 bit on the other hand just copies the image ontop at the top of the screen and bottom. 800x600x16 reproduces the top of the screen on the bottom. (i.e. if you bring your mouse cursor to the top of the screeen, you can see the cursor on the top of the monitor but it's also in the lower middle now.)
I tried Vert Hz ranges of 50-90 (that worked for my GF6), 50-100, 50-110 and 50-150. This monitor is probably pretty darn old and I have no idea what brand it is... doesn't even say on the back actually just says "plug & play" on the top right.

Voila. Sorry for the late reply, tax commission runs me ragged working.
(Humorous edit, it refers to the card name as "CL GD5446 Noname card", in the xorgconfig program. Ha!) -
got the soundproblems with the cirrus logic audio drivers as stated several times in the forum.
latest version of osX and bootcamp. win xp sp3. tried 3 installations...
mic creates the "darth vader" voice. this can be fixed with this hacked driver from the web from 2009. sic!!
soundrecordings destorted. btw. the stereomix in soundrecordings is gone. was stereomix disabled in the driver? there is no hidden features. worked on macbook from 2008 with leopard and realtek hardware.
windows xp seems to be an OEM. can this be a reason?
does the sound work properly on windows 7?
allthebest from austria,
ddHey,
I have the same problem (MBP 13", Win 7. Getting green bars, red light in headphone jack but no sound. Ages in fourms, driver installs, system restore - am pretty fried).
I wish there was some solid advice from Apple on this rather that trawling through these forums putting together the pieces of the jigsaw. No downloading the Realtek driver (if you could even get them without paying a subscription to so 'device driver doctor app'), nor the Cirrus drivers from the disc.
This is really frustrating. I want a clear 'how to' from Apple. As an Apple user for years I find them quickly loosing their plug and play shiny image - so Apple, get it together.
Cheers

It seems that the problem is that udev hasn't yet created the sound devices when the alsa script tries to restore the sound volume.
I don't know if it has been fixed. Maybe moving alsa to the end of the DAEMONS array will give more time to udev to create the device so the sleep 5 won't be necessary anymore. I might test that out.
Sounds about right. I reinstalled Arch and did not add sleep 5. Now the volume is muted at startup
