Cirrus - what IS commercial use?

So, we all undersrtand that Cirrus is (at present) available for non-commercial use only. But...what exactly constitutes "non-comercial" use?
I would love to make a videogame that uses Cirrus's p2p technology. Obviously, I would not be allowed to charge for the game's sale, but would I be allowed to:
1.) make the game publically accessbile through a website
2.) assuming "1", place advertisements on the website
3.) gernate indirect revenue through the game (via in-game transactions), as long as they are in no way intricated with the game's Cirrus p2p aspects
4.) distribute the game FOR FREE through an app market (like the Apple store, Android Market, or Google Chrome Store)
I've spent a fair amount of time searching for answers to these questions on the Cirrus Forums, but came up with only obscure answers. It would be fantastic if someone (possibly an Adobe rep) could could help shine a light on this topic.
Thanks

Bro i am pretty much in the same situation as you http://forums.adobe.com/message/4191600 . i know i cannot charge users for using the video chat service in the site i plan on creating with cirrus BUT how about advert placement on the website . someone from ADOBE please answer. Thanks

  • Workflow create promo commercial what do do/use?

I want to create a promo commercial using some video and still photos in a very artistic montage sort of way. I have a Sony hdr-hc9 HDV camera that shoots 1080p and a Canon 30D dslr. I use Aperture 2.0 for the photos. My goal is to burn a HD DVD to play on a flat panel TV as a 30-60 sec promo for some products I sell. The video and photos need to be clear and close to show details. I need some advice on a workflow for this project. I will also have the flat-panel in the portrait mode for playback and want to have the final product on the DVD use the full screen. I do not yet have the LCD/plasma, but it may be up to 42 inches. Should I be creating this in iMovie HD and then export to iDVD for the final product? I do not need sound or chapters, just a looping style video. Do I need a higher end software like FCP to do this (do not have it) and go to DVD Studio Pro and Compressor? I could also get the new iLife if need be. How can I be sure the final DVD will play vertically on the TV since it needs to be in that orientation? Do I have to hold the camera on a tripod in the portrait position for all the shoots? Can I use Ken burns effect on the video and stills?

I'd go for FCS 2 (final cut studio 2) because it has WAY better stuff and can do a lot more that iMovie can even dream of. You should learn Motion which will make your video look awesome with 3D effects. For the monitor, I don't thing many TV type monitors will do a 90 degree rotation, so I'd get the biggest computer monitor possible. If you do that, go for a Dell monitor because they can be wall mounted, they rotate very easily, just a few clicks through the menu.
    Hope this helps!

  • CS6 Student & Teacher Commercial use in USA but what about UK?

    Hi Community
I would like to buy CS6 master collection with the student and teacher license, I have read that some commercial conesions are ok from this Adobe FAQ:  http://www.adobe.com/sea/special/education/students/studentteacheredition/faq.html
But I am not clear if these conesions still count in the UK?
Any insight would be very welcome.
    Best regards Sevo

    Hi Sevo,
It used to be that there some restrictions internationally on the Student Editions (with older CS versions), but now commercial use is OK worldwide.

  • Status of commercial use in 2013

What is the state of commercial use for Cirrus/Stratus/..?
Can I use Stratus as part of a commercial product.
It does not revolve around it. It is just another tool within a larger service.

No, I'm not quoting the retail license.
The full text of Personal Use License is there:
    http://personaluselicense.windows.com/en-US/default.aspx
Quote from this page: "Can I transfer the software to another computer or user? You
may transfer the software to another computer that belongs to you. You may also transfer the software
(together with the license) to a computer owned by someone else if a) you are the first licensed
user of the software and b) the new user agrees to the terms of this agreement. To make that transfer, you must transfer the original media, the certificate of authenticity, the product key and the proof of purchase directly to that other person, without retaining
any copies of the software. You may use the backup copy we allow you to make or the media that the software came on to transfer the software. Anytime you transfer the software to a new computer, you must
remove the software from the prior computer. You may not transfer the software to share licenses between computers. You may transfer Get Genuine Windows
software, Pro Pack or Media Center Pack software only together with the licensed computer."

  • FAQ: What font is used by the London Underground (London Transport)

This summer, while on vacation in the UK, I spent a few hours in the London Transport Museum. Surprisingly enough, in their gift shop, two items for sale attracted my attention. One was a book and the other, a collection of fonts!
Every so often, the question comes up on this forum and others as to exactly what font is used in the London Underground. The book in question,
Johnston's Underground Type by Justin Howes definitively answers that question and provides quite a bit of background on the subject.
To summarize, the basis of the font used today is
Johnston Sans, dating back to 1916. Johnston Sans also had an upper case-only bold face. These two faces were used with various modifications until 1988 when the font was modernized with the release of
New Johnston, a family of nine typefaces based upon Johnston Sans. The family includes light, light italic, medium, medium italic, medium condensed, bold, bold italic, bold condensed, and stencil weights / styles. New Johnston Medium most closely resembles the original Johnston Sans face in terms of weight and style.
Neither the original Johnston Sans nor the current New Johnston are licensed by London Transport for any external use.
However, at the London Transport Museum (and I believe on-line from the P22 Type Foundry), you can purchase a license and media for P22's rendition of Johnston Sans including three faces - P22 Underground, P22 Underground Bold (uppercase only), and P22 Underground Extras (symbols associated with London Transport over the years). Included on the CDROM are both Type 1 and TrueType versions of the typefaces in both Windows and Macintosh formats. The designs were officially licensed from London Transport. The EULA (End User License Agreement) carries some
very strict restrictions with regards to embedding in PDF or any other file type as well as commercial use of any printed output formatted with these typefaces.
A fairly close (and less restrictively-licensed alternative) to the P22 package or for Johnston Sans and New Johnston (neither of which are available for license) is ITC Johnston, available in Type 1 and TrueType versions in both Windows and Macintosh formats. Fifteen individual typefaces are available including old style figures and small caps, italic styles, as well as light, medium, and bold weights. Alas, they are not (yet) available in OpenType format.
In any case, further information and background is available in
Johnston's Underground Type by Justin Howes.

I was. I have to say as much as there is a lot of negativity towards Larry Jordan, I really respect him for not shying away from adversity and talking about the issues quite Frankly. I mean, his talk was laced with quite a lot of rhetoric ("it's not the end of the world", etc etc), but he didn't decline to answer any questions (including my own: "what were they thinking").

These are just the things I remember off the top of my head. Sadly I didn't make any notes, in all honesty because I was expecting the whole thing to be a whitewash. Remind me of anything I've left out and I'll try to cover it.
I'll try to transcribe the recording today as it was the only thing that's come close to an official word on the situation from Apple, though I have to say the recording is not particularly good :/

  • Is commercial use possible?

    Hello Team,
is the commercial use of developments possible or am I only allowed to test and develop in the CAL? I know that with the free trials it is not possible.
And I have another question: does every user in our company need an account or is it possible to create a "company" user for alle employees?
    Thanks for your help!
    Jörg

    Hi Jörg,
yes, commercial use is definitely possible. For that you (or your company) would need to purchase the SAP Cloud Appliance Library subscription which will unlock all currently available 29 solutions of the subscription package. For the majority of the Trials for which commercial use is not allowed there are matching solutions in the subscription package. Please remember that the CAL subscription does not provide any product licenses - you need to own the SAP licenses upfront.
In regards to the user question, I not really understand the question so if this answer is not what you were looking for, let me know. So if you like, you can create a new SCN user which you then add as an additional user to your CAL tenant. If you provide the logon credentials of that user to all our employees they can all access CAL too. However, they will all have the possibility to manage the same instances - which could create confusion. Our suggestion is, that each of your employees has their own SAP ID User (can be S-User or P-User) and all of those are added to the CAL tenant of the S-User who purchased CAL and who is the master admin of the CAL tenant.
Here is a document that will explain the model is a broader perspective:

  • HP Laserjet1012 only prints Not For Commercial Use

Have HP Laserjet 1012 installed on Dell Latitute E6410 running Windows 7.   Found a You Tube video for setup.  Using port DOT4_001, and HP Laserjet0355 PCL5(Microsoft) driver.
Problem:  whentyou print test page, the printout has a black background and Not For Commercial Use printed on a diagonal in white.
If you open a document to print, it spools to this printer but the message is this Not for Cummercial Use.
    Any ideas???

Perhaps the application you are using (Word?) is generating the watermark; or perhaps a watermark setting in the printer driver settings?
What happens if you try to print a simple text document from NotePad?

  • Master Collection Student and Teacher Licensing Commercial Use?

    Hello,
I purchased the CS5 Master Collection from my college under this program.
I know it's a perpetual license and that I can upgrade to a commercial version of CS6.
I live in North America and purchased CS5 in North America as well, so I think it's permitted to use this for commercial work. Does anyone know for certain?
EDIT: After a lot of reading through the forums and contacting Adobe helpdesk, it appears that I can use the CS5 Student and Teacher Licensing for commercial work now that I've graduated.
Here's what the packaging looks like. There isn't a warning about non commercial use, so I'm going to go ahead and do some freelance work:
    Thank you, Adobe!

Contact support directly by phone or web chat. Nobody here can straighten out serial number issues. If you have older versions of Acrobat installed, uninstalling them or running the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool and Acrobat Cleaner Tool may resolve any potential conflicts.

  • Education bought MacBook for commercial use?

So I would have just emailed apple about this....but there really are no emails to reach apple at, so I had to come here. I know that Apple's education price software is not able to be used for commercial use, but what about it's hardware? I bought my Macbook through the education store...once I'm out of college, can I use this for more than personal use? Or would that go against some sort of agreement?

p.s. if this solves your issue please mark it as such for others to see. thanks.
This is from the terms of use. Just thought you would like to know.
Do not ask for points. If you feel the system is not clear to users, please provide feedback to Apple; do not instruct other users unless they ask.

  • Licensing XML libraries for commercial use...

After reading the license terms for the XML parser for 'C', I am confused. The license document embedded in the download package, says you need to contact Oracle to license the library for commercial use. However, the click-wrap license for the OTN says you can use the technologies in commercial products. These totally contradict each other. I called Oracle and asked the following question, and after talking with 3 people, nobody knew a difinitive answer.
Here is the question: If I use the Oracle XML parser for 'C' library in the construction of a commercial application that I am selling, do I need purchase a license from Oracle to do this? If so, who do I contact?
    Thanks,
    - Ted
    null

It doesn't matter to me as much that the two agreements are different. What I am most concerned with is that BOTH say that I cannot build commercial/for-sale products using the kit without paying for a license. Who do I contact to get a license to use?
I called the number on the agreement and spoke to people who had no idea what I was talking about, nor who I could talk to.
Also, since you asked, I have attached the two different sections from the two license agreements below.
    Thanks,
    - Ted

  • Music for commercial use?

    Hello Folks,
I have been searching on the forum about music for commercial DVD and Video projects and the phrase that keeps coming up is:
"purchased music is not for commercial use".
Are there any Royalty Free music libraries available that CAN be used for commercial use?
NOT LOOPS, but actual regular mainstream music. Even if they have been re-recorded by other musicians in a studio that has the right to sell it as Royalty Free for commercial use in DVD and Video Projects.
Any suggestions or web links would be greatly appreciated?
    Thanks!

I fully understand what you folks are saying.
What is confusing is that 100's of companies are doing business this way.
Here are just 2 examples of MANY websites that I found with the "same or very similar explanation" when it comes to using standard music:
    http://www.momentos2dvd.com/faq.htm
    http://www.slidesinmotion.com/sim/faqs.asp#q6
They all say something like this:
"Yes. We can incorporate your choice of music in your video so long as it is music you have purchased from a legitimate vendor for your own personal in-home use. Or we will purchase the music for you and give you the music CD when the job is completed"
Out of all these businesses, including some local businesses in my area, that are using music in their DVD presentations for weddings (to continue this example), it is hard for me to believe that "none of them" have consulted a lawyer to find out if this is legal. There are 100's of companies doing this.
How can this be possible? How is it that they don't get in trouble?

  • QuickTime Pro for Commercial Use?

    Hi,
I have a quick question which I hope will be easily answered; I've read the EULA for QuickTime to no avail, and tried to find online contact details for someone at Apple but I was defeated by the website and wasn't able to find a way to contact someone with this inquiry, so my apologies if this isn't the correct forum for it.
My question is - can the regular version of QuickTime Pro be used for commercial purposes, or is it only for non-commercial purposes?
I have always assumed it is able to be used for pretty much anything, but I want to clarify - I've been investigating other codecs recently (specifically, DivX, for which the software is only available for non-commercial use - if you want to use it commercially you're required to apply for an entirely separate commerical license which is priced somewhat obscenely).
    Thanks,
    -- david

I'm looking for a reference to show my co-workers concerning downloading and using the free player on corporate machines. I'm getting conflicting answers and need a link to point to.
I work for a large automotive manufacturer, and currently the IT coordinator in my building is telling me: "Quick Time is free for individual use, but not for Corporate use." I can't find anywhere on the web or in the license agreement that states that.
From what I can glean from the license agreement, corporate users are not allowed to distribute it to multiple computers without special licensing. How much does a license to distribute to multiple computers cost?
I'm in tech support here, and I'd like to be able to put this on people's machines legally when they ask for it.

  • Music on Sound Track Pro? Can we use this for commercial use?

Does anybody know what the license agreement for the music that comes on the Soundtrack Pro software? It says it's royalty free, but can I use this for commercial use?

Short answer is yes.  Long answer is read the license agreement and call your lawyer with any questions.
A couple of years ago I noticed that there were some loops belonging to APM, and raised the issue with them.  It's licensed to Apple and through Apple to you as an owner of the software.  You can NOT repackage and sell the loops though, only use them in your productions.
