Cisco-1131 AG Mesh AP converts to LWAPP

hi,
is there a chance that Mesh APs will not associate with LWAPP imaged Controllers ? is it necessary that both AP and Controller shoud be mesh imaged ?
can we convert them Mesh APs to normal LWAPP mode ?
thanks,
Anvar

  • What AP models can be converted to LWAPP ?

I have several 1220's with radiomodules MP21G, and also 1231AG with the MP21G radio. Can anyone confirm that they can be converted to LWAPP ?
    Johann Folkestad

    Hi Johann
Migration from autonomous access point mode to lightweight mode is possible on these Cisco Aironet access point platforms:
    - All 1130AG access points
    - All 1240 AG access points
    - For all IOS-based 1200 series modular access point (1200/1220 Cisco IOS Software Upgrade, 1210 and 1230 AP) platforms, it depends on the radio:
    - if 802.11G, MP21G and MP31G are supported
    - if 802.11A, RM21A and RM22A are supported
The 1200 series access points can be upgraded with any combination of supported radios: G only, A only, or both G and A.
    - All 1310 AG access points
Access points must be running Cisco IOS Release 12.3(7)JA or later before you can perform the upgrade.
So, for your APs you can do the upgrade if you have the minimum IOS version
    Hope this helps

  • Air-lap-1131-ag-e-k9 convert to autonomous not working

    Hi,
i have a air-lap01131-ag-e-k9 that was originally in lightweight mode and configured with a controller, but i am in the process of wanting to convert to autonomous mode, i am having issues with connectivity to the AP from my laptop.
i have followed numerous guides on this forum, i have successfully
    downloaded correct firmware
    renamed the firmware to .default
placed this in root of tftp server folder
connected laptop via console to view output
connected laptop via Ethernet to Ethernet port of AP
changed static ip on laptop to 10.0.0.2 set subnet mask to 255.255.255.0, default gateway to 10.0.0.1
held reset button on AP when applying power and waiting for radio light to flash red
AP gets a IP address then of 10.0.0.1
But even though both laptop and AP are in the same subnet, i am unable to ping the AP from my laptop and it doesn't start the tftp process
I have disabled firewall etc, and tried with both crossover and straight through cable, it seems there is something missing at this last stage, i even tried on a second laptop but that would not ping either, am i missing something.
i acquired the AP for training purposes to help with studies and so far i have learnt a lot of troubleshooting but i would really love to get past this, any help would be really appreciated.
    Kind regards
    Sam

  • Converting to LWAPP (Aironet 1231)

I currently manage 115 Aironet AP1231-G-A-K9 WAP's via WLSE. We had a site assessment done, and they are recommending two wireless controllers for management with Cisco 3500 WAP's with clean air technology. I agree with recommendations, but I do not want to replace 115 access points. Has anyone ever successfully converted the 1231's to LWAPP?
I see there are utilites to accomplish this, but I also see alot of incompatibility post. Any comments/advice is greatly appreciated.
    Kind Regards,
    John

  • Cisco 1131 Cannot Associate to WLC Following WCS Install

Greetings, i have had a small wireless deployment up and running for several months consisting of 3 1131 and a 1242 lightweight ap's registered with a 2106 WLC.
Ive had no problems up until i installed WCS on a separate server for testing, ive added the controller successfully and can see all access points up until a day ago.
Following a re-boot of one of our PoE switches two of the 1132 access points failed to re-register with the controller whilst the other two ap's reconnect without issue.
On the Ap themselves lwapp comes with then goes into cfg mode but fails to pull down the config of the controller and then resets.
The controller is giving the message for one of the Ap's

I have tried resetting both ap's using the mode button at power on but cant figure out what is causing the issue.
    Any help would be appreciated!

  • Convert APs LWAPP to Autonomous without WLC

How can I convert an Access Point with lightweight version to autonomous without a Controller??
    Regards,

    Hi Juan Carlos,
No worries my friend, this should work :)
    Here is a conversion method;
Reverting the Access Point Back to Autonomous Mode
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps430/prod_technical_reference09186a00804fc3dc.html#wp161272
You can convert an access point from lightweight mode back to autonomous mode by loading a Cisco IOS Release that supports autonomous mode (Cisco IOS release 12.3(7)JA or earlier). If the access point is associated to a controller, you can use the controller to load the Cisco IOS release. If the access point is not associated to a controller, you can load the Cisco IOS release using TFTP.
Using a TFTP Server to Return to a Previous Release
Follow these steps to revert from LWAPP mode to autonomous mode by loading a Cisco IOS release using a TFTP server:
Step 1 The static IP address of the PC on which your TFTP server software runs should be between 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.30.
Step 2 Make sure that the PC contains the access point image file (such as c1200-k9w7-tar.122-15.JA.tar for a 1200 series access point) in the TFTP server folder and that the TFTP server is activated.
Step 3 Rename the access point image file in the TFTP server folder to c1200-k9w7-tar.default for a 1200 series access point, c1130-k9w7-tar.default for an 1130 series access point, and c1240-k9w7-tar.default for a 1240 series access point.
Step 4 Connect the PC to the access point using a Category 5 (CAT5) Ethernet cable.
Step 5 Disconnect power from the access point.
Step 6 Press and hold MODE while you reconnect power to the access point.
Step 7 Hold the MODE button until the status LED turns red (approximately 20 to 30 seconds) and then release.
Step 8 Wait until the access point reboots, as indicated by all LEDs turning green followed by the Status LED blinking green.
Step 9 After the access point reboots, reconfigure it using the GUI or the CLI.
    From this doc;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps430/prod_technical_reference09186a00804fc3dc.html#wp161272
    Hope this helps!

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure MESH LINK ISSUE

    Hi,
a Customer of us has a trouble with cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2.0.12 and AP mesh link.
There is an huge database ( i suppose the issue can be here ) and when we display some map ( each floor has about 6 RAP and 24 MAP ) we cannot see the MESH information and link draw.
The only way to dipley them is to disable "refresh from network": this way I'm able to show these link..... until a click before.
What i noticied when all was working fine, after i click to some floor:
    1) the software started to show the map with normal color and no mesh info displayed ( just ap and coverage cloud )
    2) after few time ( less than 1 second ) the map was becoming a little bit lighter and the mesh info was merged to the map
We are missini the second step
Anyone had the same issue ?
    best regards
    Luigi
PS: I opened a case with WCS version 6.0 ( same issue ) but, after some months, no risult. The last version working fine was WCS 5.2

Just to add some more informations:
    - disabling "refreshj from network" ( building properties ) the link and mesh info are showed
    - while I'm on a floor, after some refresh, i loose the mesh link draw and, if i click on an AP, i loose also mesh info in the popup. It' s like, after some refresh, the AP are no more recognized as Mesh ( !?!? )
    regards

  • Cisco 1131 access point status led

    Hi
Any one experienced a white light on the status led, its the "ring light" infront of the AP. ive checked on http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/1130/installation/guide/113h_c4.html where all colours are listed and none point done to white.
    ANy ideas?
    Thanks

Here's an update on this issue. I have had about a 2% failure rate on my 3502i's due to blue, green, and white light freezing. We sent several unit to Cisco's wireless engineer team in Richfield. They have found the issue and have written a fix and are currently doing testing this weekend. They are sending a senior wireless engineer to my office on Monday morning to apply the fix on the 200 units that we have yet to deploy. This is the bad part: the fix can only be applied through the console port and they won't have this integrated into a controller code until May/June. The good news is they have a fix or will just RMA with no questions. I have a webex with their wireless team to explain exactly what the issue is, but from what I gathered is something to do with the boot loader image and the IBM chip in the unit. I will follow up with you guys on Mon/Tues.

I don't have any experience with the autonomous APs, but I know on the controllers that I have problemd with my Guest SSIDs that have web authentication only. There is a Session Timeout setting on the controllers that sets the interval for re-authentication.
And when doing web-based authentication, then the user must go through the web-authentication page again for the wireless to work once the session timeout is reached. In my scenario, the web authentication page wouldn't come up unless the user manually disconnected and reconnected (or potentially closed IE and started it again). This gave the appearence that they were disconnected with the page cannot be displayed messages.
But this may not be relevent in your case since it isn't controller based and I'm not sure if you use web authentication.
However, a good test would be to see if the WIRELESS disconnects or if it is just merely that data is no longer passing on the active connection.

And this is all it does, and keep loading the image. I already know the recovery procedure to reset it, but i wanted to know how i can put these AP in HREAP without having these issues. In the setup we need, we cannot have those AP be in local mode.

  • Wlc 2106 problem ( cant connect to 2 lwapp ( 1242 & 1131 ) need advice

    Dear All,
could you give me some advice to configure wlc with 2 lwapp,
    i did try to used 1 lwapp ( 1242 ag ) and it's work, but when i try to connect with 2 lwapp ( 1242 & 1131 ), i can't associated with lwapp 1131 ag, i did used same configuration for both,
need youd advice and reference guide for this issue.
    thanks and regards

    Hi Heru,
If both are lwapp aps then they should be able to join 2106 controller. Can you confirm if 1130 is also connected to same subnet where 1242 is connected? Is management subnet/vlan different from the vlan you are connecting your LWAPP APs.
    Hope this link should help
