Cisco 1760 router stays in rommon modus

I am having problems with a cisco 1760 router. When I turn the router on I am getting stuck in rommon mode. When I enter the command: "boot flash:c1700-sv8y7-mz.123-11.T3.bin" , the router will boot the ios image. But when i turn the router off and on, it will return to rommon mode. I have tried the following commands in rommon mode:
rommon 1 > confreg 0x2102
rommon 2 > reset
or
rommon 1 > confreg 0x142
rommon 2 > reset
without results. I get the following errors:

Thanks,

I would recommend posting in the netpro forums about this.

This site is for the Cisco Small Business Pro routers.
For your problem though, you might try looking at your boot system command in your running config to make sure that it is accurate.

  • 1760 router and 1242 UWGB

cisco aironet 1242 AP - configured as universal workgroup bridge
    cisco 1760 router
I have a problem using a 1760 router with a 1242 uwgb, the 1242 is connected to the internet, int f0/0 on the router is connected by cable to the 1242, the 1242 demands a mac address to work but it seems the 1760 will not provide one that works. If I connect the 1242 directly to a pc and enter the pc's mac address into the uwgb the internet connection works fine. The 1760 has a WIC-4ESW 4-Port Switch Card fitted, I have traffic going into the WIC-4ESW and out of Intf0/0. This config works fine and I've tested it with a modem connected to int f0/0.
If I do show int f0/0 on the 1760 it displays the mac address and I enter this into the 1242. But when booting the 1242 the config says:
'Configured Universal MAC Address is not present in the Bridge Table
Device will associate using BVI's mac address'
do I have to do something to get the 1760 to give the mac address? I've tried giving the router intf0/0 a different mac address but that didn't work.
    thanks for any pointers.

read the below url for UWGB.

  • I am loosing configuration when I power off my Cisco 857 router

I bought new Cisco 857 router from the shop. Router must have been used before as I couln't go in with default username/password cisco/cisco.
Well I followed instruciton and reset password to username and password. Now I finally connected to the Cisco CP express over my IE browser.
I found out that somebody was using a router from the shop so this is why I coun't log to it in the first place. Anyway problem is that when I changed configuration and applied settings it remembers it until I power it off. When I power it on again it remembers all settings from that shop.
It reverts everything back: IP address, previous level 15 account and password - everything like after password reset.
I tried it again and it again lost settings. So I found following instruction:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps233/products_tech_note09186a00800a65a5.shtml
I followed it and changed again all settings on the router. My settings are again lost after power off/on. I noticed that when I do first bit it does show
0x2102 not 0x2142 like they think that is password reset mode.
Here is my output from Hyper Terminal:

Please help me as I am stuck and can't go any further....

    Hi David White,
Alternatively, after password recovery you can modify the configuration to be what you want, and then issue:
       write memory
to save the configuration.  You can then verify that your changes have been saved to the startup config by issuing:
       show startup-config"
The only good thing is that when I switch off a router it erase configuration except my new password which I created after password reset. Everything else is getting vanished (ADSL settings, DHCP, routing ) everything. Even new admin accounts I created.
Well have a question to your above comments. I am new in Cisco so please put as much detail as you can for me to understand. When you say modify configuration do you mean to go to Cisco CP Express graphical interface and then connect router to hyper terminal and execute above commands?
Why router doesn't remember this anyway. There must be some option to change in configuration to make thing permanent when I hit apply changes in Cisco CO Express otherwise it is pointless to heve it.
    Phillip
    write memory
    is
    copy running-config startup-config"
Can't this be done via Cisco CP Express or set up router to copy this every time I change this in graphical interface rather going to command line to achnoledge it?
I understand your concern about this router and somebodie's configuration details as you want things to be un-used when you buy them - true. ADSL details belongs to the shop which sold me the router so that is why I don't make a big problem about this. We take most of hardware from this shop and have discount and many good deals with them so I think they have been just testing it and forgot to erease their config. It might be that someone has returned router to the shop and they have repaired it and tested it.
I hope this is a normal behaviour of this router as I have option to replace it in case this is a fault.
Could you please write me step by step guide how can I make changed options stay permanently on router?
    thank you
    Dragan

    Regards,
    Naidu.

By the look of your "sh ip int bri" it is for the Eth1/0 interface not your serial.
What's plugged into the other end of that link? Have you checked it is the correct encapsulation? eg if it is a trunk, are both sides configured to be a trunk (and also both isl or dot1q)?
If it is going to a switch have you checked port security? (it may have autorecover set for 1 min which is why it keeps flapping).....
Could also be a break in the cable which causes it to be unidirectional and UDLD may be brinking it down?

  • Atm0 clock rate on 1760 router

I have a 2651xm router with wic1-adsl card and i've seen that by tweaking the atm0 and dialer0 settings I can literally double the download speed on my crappy adsl line. One of the settings I use on the 2651 is:
    # int atm0/0
    # clock rate aal5 7000000
however I also have a 1760 router on adsl at a different location but that won't accept 7000000.
    1760(config-if)#clock rate aal5 ?
            1000000
            1300000
            1600000
            2000000
            2600000
            3200000
            4000000
            5300000
            8000000    <default>
<1000000-8000000>  clock rates in bits per second, choose one from above
from the point of view of squeezing every last drop of speed from the adsl line, which clock rate should I use?

  • Still trying to configure a Cisco 877W router

    Hi,
I am still unable to configure my Cisco 877W router for use on a B.T. ADSL phone line.
I can log in to the router which starts up the SDM Express. I then select the wizard and get as far as filling in the DHCP server configuration.
When I then press next it does not go to the next step, it just stays on the DHCP config screen. I am now using a Windows XP machine to configure the router  as someone suggested, but it continues to halt at the same place.
    Can anyone help please,
    Thanks.
    Dave.

  • Cisco 3825 router boot ios from usb

    HI All
I got a Cisco 3825 Router CF card failure, can I boot IOS from USB?
Physically I found 2 usb ports but nothing I can see in ROMMON mode, may I know how to boot from USB?

    Hi Hugo,
The only time you can get an ISR G1 (except 870) to boot from USB is when you have upgraded the bootstrap to 12.4(13r)T15.
The command to boot from USB is a hidden command.  From ROMmon the command is "boot usbflash0:IOS_filename.bin".

  • Cisco 1760 my default GW. Optimizing external interface.

    Hello, my current setup is....
    [comcast 10 Mbps]<----->[Cisco 1760]<------->[Dell PowerConnect 3024]--------[LAN]
I have a WIC-1ENET on my 1760 connected to the the motorola cable modem.  I was wondering if there are any specific commands I should apply to an external interface to improve performance, or keep unwanted traffic from being sent out.
    interface Ethernet0/0
    ip address dhcp
    no ip redirects
    no ip proxy-arp
    ip nat outside
    no ip route-cache cef
    no ip route-cache
    no ip mroute-cache
    half-duplex
    priority-group 1
    no cdp enable
That is my current setup for my external interface.  I have the priority set for my xbox 360.  So that netflix gets highest priority.  This allows for me to get HD streams 90% of the time, with little to no slow downs from others using the network.  I would like to set full-duplex, but doing so brings the connections to the internet down to a crawl.  I don't know if this is because the cable modem needs to be reset after full-duplex has been set, or what.
I have seen some configurations with a hold-queue value.  Would this help me any?  Speed tests using dlsreports i see about 8Mbps/1.5Mbps down/up.  I have modified the nat tcp timeout to 10 minutes.
    Thanks for any information guys.

Regarding the duplex settings on Ethernet 0/0 there are some rules in the standards. If you set the duplex manually on the interface auto negotiation is turned off and requested duplex will not be ‘announced’ to your cable modem. The default behavior according to the standard is for the cable modem to use half duplex. This will also happen if you set Ethernet 0/0 to full duplex since auto negotiation is turned off.
So in order to get full duplex you have two options:
    1) Use the command ‘duplex auto’ on Ethernet 0/0
    2) Configure both Ethernet 0/0 and your cable modem to full duplex.

  • No service password recovery command on cisco 2801 router

    HI,
we have a cisco 2801 router in class which has a disabled pasword recovery. We tried almost everything, we cannot get into ROMmon and the break sequence dosent work in any program (hyper terminal, putty, teraterm pro). We dont have any idea how to solve this problem.

I usually suffer from the same issue, but what works for me everytime is the other method that simulates break sequence. Can't find the documentation for it but this is how it goes:
Set the serial connection as follows in Putty:
    Baud rate 1200
    1 stop bit
    8 data bits
    no parity
    no flow control
Turn off your router, then turn it back on and immediately press the spacebar for about 10-15 seconds. All you'll see is giberish. After that reset your console connection settings to the usual 9600 baud rate, and you'll find yourself in rommon mode.

  • Cisco 2821 router won't keep config

    Hi
I have a cisco 2821 router that i'm trying to load a config on and for some reason it will not stay once i reboot it.
I can get the config on and give it a host name and everything that i need but when i reboot it goes back to
router> as the host name and no config on it.What would be causing this problem as this is my first time seeing
this before and thanks for your help in advance.

Check your config-registry using the "sh version" command.  It should be 0x2102 and you can change this using the command "config-registry 0x2102" and a reboot.

  • I have a Cisco wireless router.  Can I buy an Airport Express plug in booster for a distant part of my house or do I need an Airport Extreme base station instead to make the Airport Express plug in booster work?

Can I buy an Airport Express plug-in wifi signal booster to connect to a Cisco wireless router, or do I have to buy an Airport Extreme base station to make the Airport Express plug-in work?

You would need either an AirPort Extreme or an AirPort Express connected to the Cisco router, with a permanent Ethernet cable connection.
Configure the Extreme or Express that is connected to the Cisco router to "create a wireless network".
Then, you could add an AirPort Express to "extend a wireless network" to provide more wireless coverage for the network that the Extreme or Express would be creating.
Remember that the Express can only "extend" the quality of signal that it receives, so it must be located where it can receive a strong signal from the "main" AirPort.
If you don't need the Cisco wireless signal, you could turn it off.....or use that network for guests or something similar.
The bottom line here......you always need two Apple routers if you want to extend the network wirelessly.
