Cisco 2509 - Software?

Thank you for your time.  I recently acquired a 2509 router that I plan to use as a serial device router.  My question is, how do you create the virtual com ports on Windows and Linux machines to point to the TCP address:ports in the 2509 router?  Is there software or drivers that do this?  Or something third-party?  Thanks in advance for any advice.

Thank you for the clarification. I now understand that you want to connect not to network devices like routers or switches but to connect to other kinds of devices. If they have the async serial interface for management, frequently presented as the 9 pin connector, then it may work using the 2509.
I am still puzzled about part of what you describe when you say:"but the software that is used to communicate with those devices is looking for a com port and not a TCP/IP port.". Is this software on the device to be controlled (the weather station, UPS controller, power switch, etc) or is this software on the device that wants to communicate with them?
I am guessing that this is software on the device that wants to communicate with the weather station etc. If you were to connect a PC directly to the weather station then you would need some peice of software (commonly I see software such as Hyperterm, TeraTerm, or SecureCRT to do this) and that software takes care of the com port manipulation. With the 2509 the com port stuff is done by the 2509 and you do not need special software on the PC. On the 2509 you will connect cables from async interfaces to the devices to be controlled (weather station etc) and you will configure reverse telnet on the 2509 so that you can connect to specific async interfaces. Then your PC connects to the 2509, frequently via telnet but other access may be possible, and executes reverse telnet for the async interface connected to the device that it wants to control (weather station etc). The com port functionality is provided by the 2509.

  • Cisco connect software for MAC OSX 10.8.2

    Cicso,
Please hurry up with releasing Cisco Connest software for MAC OSX 10.8.2
Mine doesn't work anymore with the wireless Linksys router E3000

I think we just need to wait until they update the software that will be compatible with this router. Who knows Cisco will be able to read this thread.

  • Cisco connect software wants to match the admin password to cisco connect password?

As much as possible i want only one SSID for my router, so i dont want to have another SSID for guest. To protect my router
settings I need to have a different admin password from those of passphrase (i.e. wifi password).
Why is it that cisco connect software wants to match the admin password to cisco connect password?
The cisco connect password is the same as the passphrase. I think its unsafe to have similar passes for both admin password
    and passphrase.
Is there any way that cisco connect software would work under different admin password & passphrase?

From what I can tell, the router is set up so that it broadcasts two seperate SSID's with two unique passwords.  If you logon to the SSID-Guest network, you are not allowed any kind of Admin access to the router.  If you attempt to use the Cisco Connect software, you'll eventually get an error saying that it could not find a network (unless there is an unconfigured router running factory defaults in range).  I verified this using a Cisco Linksys E4200 and a few laptops.
So long as you utilize the guest network properly, you should be able to maintain security on your network and use Cisco Connect.  Obviously this isn't ideal for most commercial use, but then again I don't know why you would want to use this software on that scale.
If you are trying to keep one SSID for the network, I think you're going to have to use the web based service and do a little manual configuration.
TLDR:  Seta different password for the guest network and never give out the primary network password.  Guests don't have admin access, even while using Cisco Connect so long as they are connected to the -Guest SSID.

  • Manually managing E3000 / not using cisco connect software

ok  now i have totally by pass the cisco connect  software, and manually managing my e3000 / updating the firmware manually  and i have the ssid disabled due to people trying to connect to our router all the time and our router is password protected (wpa/aes) i need to know if manually managing the network is a good idea or not i've manage other linksys routers in the network page, i am finally able to connect and i get my full download speed 10MB/Second  now  before i was getting 5MB/second and upload speed is at a good 1MB/second before i was getting 0.3MB/second are these good speeds or what i dont know i've also ran a few test - both the hdtv & xbox on at the same time running the same item (netflix's ) both at the same speed

For better wireless connection, use WPA2 with AES security.
I think disabling the SSID broadcast will make any difference.
You can also try changing the advanced wireless settings on the router.
Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable. Open the setup page of the router and go to Wireless tab. Click on Advanced wireless settings sub tab. Change the Beacon interval to 75, RTS and Fragmentation threshold to 2304. Save the settings.
Click on Setup tab and change the MTU size to 1365.Save the settings and power cycle the router.
Now observer the wireless connection and see if that makes any difference.
Also make sure that your router is running on latest firmware.

As you might know by now, Cisco Connect might not have an upgrade since Cisco basically came out with a new application named "Cisco Connect in the Cloud". This one need a firmware upgrade on your router first to Ver.1.1.38.138880 wich you will find at http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support/ccc.
Connect in the cloud is not bad, not great either but do as much as  the regular Connect and some but this time from anywere you have internet access. The Con is that you will never be able again to use the typical settings using the IP address of your router. Yap you read righ, never again unless you decide to roll back the firmware to the previous version. Cisco have instructions have to do it. Other Cons at least for me is that the download speed came from almost 12 mbps to 2 mbps. At least that what the speed test show, but i have not seen the reduce speed in real. My web access still good and super fast. If i connect directly to the modem shows almost 12, connect to the router 2mbps. Wierd.
    Any way good luck

  • When is the update for Cisco Connect software with OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion?

@OfficialLinksys When will @Cisco_Support update Cisco Connect software with OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion compatibility?

I believe all Mac users are waiting for that update but so far it is not yet available. We are yet to hear from Cisco for its official release for the software that is compatible already for Mountain Lion.

  • Cisco Connect software issue

I am having problems trying to load the Cisco Connect application software from the CD.  I am able to connect to router, but the Cisco Connect software never loads to the hard drive.  Any suggestions?

I think the Cisco connect software is running successfully but it is not giving you the option to lauch the Cisco connect utility. If you get the ' congratulations ' page that means it is running successfully.
When you install the Cisco connect on your computer, it generally creates option on your computer to launch the utility.
On windows computer you will find Cisco connect under All programs. Click on Start and go to All Programs and see if you can find Cisco connect.
On MAC computer you will find Cisco connect under Applications. On your desktop, locate and double-click on the Macintosh HD icon. A window will then appear on your screen.  Select Applications from the left panel on this window.  This will display all contents under the Applications category. From the list of Applications, locate and double-click on the Cisco Connect icon.  This will launch Cisco Connect and take you to its main screen.
If you are still not finding Cisco connect software on your computer then I will suggest you install Cisco connect after installing settings up your router manually.
Uninstall Cisco connect from your computer if there is any. Follow this link to install Cisco connect after installing the router manually.

  • Cisco Connect Software Download

I just purchased the E3000. I am trying to set up my laptop with Cisco Connect software but my CD seems to be broken now. Is there anywhere I can download it?
    Thanks
    Darlene

If you want to see your router's settings, you don't have to use Cisco Connect.  You can use the web GUI for browsing settings using your web browser by logging in at http://192.168.1.1.  Then you'll see the administrative "dashboard", and by following the tabs to the settings that you want to look at, you can see everything. I'd also recommend downloading the user guide for your router from Linksys Support, if you haven't already.  This explains all the settings in the administrative GUI and will make it much easier to find what you're looking for. By the way, your English is perfectly understandable *smile*.

  • What's the difference between 8.0 and 9.3 Cisco ASA software?

Is anyone show me the link with features of 8.0 and 9.3 Cisco ASA software? And what's the catch?

9.2(2.8) is what is known as an interim release of the software. Per Cisco interim release notes:
"They contain bug fixes which address specific issues found since the last Feature or Maintenance release.  The images are fully supported by Cisco TAC and will remain on the download site only until the next Maintenance release is available. If you do not have a specific problem which is resolved by an Interim release, we recommend that you use the Feature or Maintenance release images.
Important:  These images were not fully regression tested.  Each individual fix was unit tested, and the image has had a limited amount of automated regression testing to confirm a baseline of functionality.  Keep this testing status in mind if you decide to run them in a production environment. We strongly encourage you to upgrade to a fully tested Maintenance or Feature release when it becomes available."
Interim release notes are not generally published on the general product support page but if you go to the downloads page, there is usually a link to the release notes specific to the interim release.
Here is a link to the ASA 9.2(2.9) interim release notes. They describe the individual bug fixes rolled up in that release.

  • Lost ability to connect through port forwarding after cisco guest software install

Using Remote Admin 2.2 software to remote into work computer.
E1000 I installed the cisco guest software on my pc and configured the guest about 2 months ago.
Needed to get into office PC this past weekend and connection fails.
Have a static IP address on router.  forward a single port to my office machine within the router.
Get nothing but an error on connection.  Router is 2.1.02 build 6Jan 15, 2013.
Log file shows nothing on the incoming log?  dynamic ip at home...
Another office worker, on the same internal network,  has gotomypc running and port forwarding setup on router and he is still working fine, he can access his pc from home.  The only change I have made to router was the cisco connect for guest access.
Is it possible this is stopping my remote admin?
    thanks kevin

Hey kevboac! Make sure that the computer you're using to access the remote computer is connected to the main wireless network and not to the Guest network. Being connected to the Guest network will prevent you from doing File and Printer Sharing, and Remote Access. Hope this helps!

  • Multiple Vulnerabilities in Cisco ASA Software - Adivisory ID

    Hello,
looking at this advisory: http://tools.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityAdvisory/cisco-sa-20141008-asa, in Software Versions and Fixes table all fixes releases are interim ones while mine is an ED release (9.1.5). Do you think I have to upgrade to the adviced interim release 9.1(5.12) ?
    Thanks

If you're running a 5500 series and require a fix now then, yes - 9.1(5.12) is the version you should upgrade to.
You could also examine each vulnerability for applicability to your configuration and either decide it is not applicable or critical and/or implement compensating controls outside the ASA itself.
Finally, you could also accept the risk and leave your system unpatched.

  • Multiple Vulnerabilities in Cisco ASA Software Upgrade

    Hello,
Has anyone upgraded their ASA's IOS to the recommended version as mentioned in this link -->
    http://tools.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityAdvisory/cisco-sa-20131009-asa?
I have upgrade my 8.2 & 8.6 softwares to the new release versions (as recommended by Cisco), but whenever I use the reload command, my I get the following error:
    *** --- START GRACEFUL SHUTDOWN ---
    Shutting down isakmp
    Shutting down webvpn
    Shutting down sw-module
    Shutting down File system
    *** --- SHUTDOWN NOW ---
    Write failed: Broken pipe
Any ideas  as to why this is happening and any suggestions to answer this issue?
    Thanks,
    Arun

We will need to investigate this further.
Allow me sometime or if it is urgent please open a TAC case.

  • Cisco website software download disappeared

Does anyone know if there is a known problem with the Cisco software download website? I was looking to download the NBAR protocol pack for the WiSM2 but it's no longer listed as an option (WiSM is there but obviously of no use to me). I can get it for my 5508 controllers but not the WiSM2...
I assume that I am searching correctly as I downloaded the 7.6.120.0 software only last week.

It's just not showing up under the WISM2 page. If you go under the 5508 downloads page the latest NBAR2 Protocol Pack is listed there:
         "NBAR2 Advanced Protocol Pack 6.4.0 for AireOS 7.6: NBAR2 Engine 13  (pp-AIR-7.6-13-6.4.0.pack)"
If you click on the Release notes for that pack, they indicate:
NBAR2 Protocol Pack 6.4.0 is supported on the following Cisco Wireless LAN Controller platforms:
     Cisco 5508 Wireless Controller
Cisco Flex 7500 Series Wireless Controllers
     Cisco 8510 Wireless Controller
Cisco Wireless Services Module 2 (WiSM2)
