Cisco 2811 - need help
Hello,
I am new to routers. I have one at work that I need to manage but with no knowledge. I have a Cisco 2811 router and it has been logging that one of its fans is not rotatin. Cisco suggest me to reboot the router to see if it fix the problem - so my first question is: how do you reboot the 2811.
Cisco said if rebooting the router doesn't fix the problem, they will send my a replacement chassis. So, I need step-by-step instruction on what to do if I really have to remove all the cards and put it in the new chassis. How do I save the config file? How do I shutdown the router? How do I reload the config file without having to setup the router from scratch? I need step-by-step help.
Thanks
Kit
Hi Kit,
To reload the router :
1.First do a " write mem " in your router after entering the privilege level
2.You can do a soft reload by giving " reload " from the router# prompt or just by powering and power off the router.
If reboot is not solving the problem , cisco would do a RMA and they would give you a chassis
To do that
1.Copy the configuration file to the flash disk in the router
2.Have a copy of the same in the notepad also just for verification
3.Shut down the router by removing the power
4.Insert the cards that were present in the router in the same slots in the new chassis
5.Insert the flash card to the new chassis that has the IOS and config file
6.Reload the router
7.Copy the configuration file from the flash to the running config
8.Do a write mem
9.Verify the config with your old config
use it for ref:

EtherChannel between cisco devices need help
Hello,
At our company we use 2 asa 5525 firewalls in active/standby mode.
Both of them are connected to a single cisco router.
The goal is to have the cisco router to automatically send traffic to the active firewall (regardless which firewall is active at that point).
To solve this would it be possible to create an EtherChannel with 2 ports on the cisco router and then have 1 link going to the active firewall and 1 link to the standby firewall.
If the active firewall fails and the standby firewall takes over, will the standby firewall receive all the traffic that normally would go to the active firewall without any downtime?
Will this work or does another solution exists for this? Its important for us that the hosts on the network suffer small to none downtime at all.
The topology can be found in the following image.Hello
"You could possibly use bridging on the router which would allow you to have two interfaces on the same router in the same IP subnet and connect one interface to the active firewall and one to the standby. But i cannot say for sure this would work as i have never done it with ASAs"

Cisco RV180 needs help..buyers beware.
So for a while now, we have used the Linksys (Cisco) RVS4000 Small BUsiness routers at our business and have had great success. We opened a new location, and went to buy more, only to find out, they no longer make them, and have been replaced by the Cisco RV180 routers. Figuring these will work as seemess as the others, we bought some.
Wow, was I wrong. Using mainly the default settings, we are having major connection issues, mainly by our programs that are somehow timing out and having read/write delays. I know it's the RV180 because I found an old backup RVS4000 Router, put it in place, and it works perfect. Seeing that the last firmware update on this router is June of 2012, and reading the number of posts and problems with this Router, Cisco obviously doesn't give a rip that they have a piece of SH** out there they are selling, with no plan to make fixes and update firmware. We have gone through these settings with a fine-toothed comb and turned off about every firewall and IPS setting there is, but no matter what we do, it still persists.
***EVERYONE, STAY AWAY FROM THIS ROUTER****
Until Cisco decides to get seious about their small business line, I will be buying D-link and Netgear routers, as they actually work.Hello Tim,
If you have already reported this issue to Cisco SBSC, can you please share the service request number for this issue? We would like to track the issue and see if it is something to do with the configuration or system. If you have not reported this issue to the Cisco SBSC, could you please contact them and open a service request? We would like to investigate the root cause for the performance issue you are facing and find a resolution for the same.

Connecting a 20mb fiber / ethernet point to point CISCO 1841 Need help
Here is the remote router config
Okay perhaps I am over thinking the situation but for some reason its not clicking, and maybe I am overlooking something. So my rule is if I spend more than 30 min on something and I cant get anywhere I start pulling resources ;-) So here goes.Currently we have 2 1841 routers configured between out two locations, these are connected through two T1 serial connections (Multilinked). QOS (as rudimentry as it is) is configured on the Multilink. See below. We recently went with a fiber connection (terminated via ethernet), the plan is to use the free FastEthernet (0/1) for the connection between the routers, and then disable/eliminate the T1 connections. Here is the current configuration for both routers. I Have added the new config for the ethernet connection and assigned them an IP address, and it seems that we can ping between the...

Basic Internet Routing Configuration Help -- Cisco 2811
Hi everyone,
I want to start by saying that I brought a Cisco 2811 Router to use at home and to practice advanced networking with. So far, I believe I've configured everything as it should be, however, I am not getting any internet connection.
DHCP is set up and working properly, I can lease addresses without issue.
Both interfaces are configured, fe0/1 with a static IP, and fe0/0 as a DHCP client.
I have connected fe0/0 directly to the Cable modem and it acquires an IP without issue. Connecting my laptop directly into fe0/1 allows my laptop to lease an IP from the router's DHCP server. So I know everything up to there is working properly. I've set up NAT as best I can with what I know, but I am still not getting the router to provide internet access.
The following is my Router's Configuration. Does anything seem to be missing? I used Configuration Professional to set it up.

JohnHi Again,
I sent
dhcp pool Network
default-router 192.168.100.1
to the router and wrote it to config. I still didn't have internet access at first, so I followed John's tip and hooked up my machine to an old Catalyst 2849G switch I had laying around. The switch has no settings, just gets an ip from the router and does its own thing. After doing so, I do now have internet access. I'm using it to post this reply in fact.
Here are the results of ipconfig /all on my Ethernet NIC on my machine before even having the switch:

It seems everything was working as it should, but I didn't have internet access and windows still reported it as an unknown network.
After hooking up my Switch, Windows reported seeing 'Network' (From my router's host name, I presume?) and once I reset the modem, I had internet access.
This was a huge learning experience and I am glad to have help from all of you. Is there anything else I can to do optimize my configurations? Also, why didn't I have internet access when directed hooked up to FastEthernet0/1 even though my machine acquired IP's and DNS info?

I need helping configuring RDP access to my local server from a remote location on my Cisco ASA 5505 Firewall.
I have attempted to configure rdp access but it does not seem to be working for me Could I please ask someone to help me modify my current configuration to allow this? Please do step by step as I could use all the help I could get.
I need to allow the following IP addresses to have RDP access to my server:
66.237.238.193-66.237.238.222
69.195.249.177-69.195.249.190
69.65.80.240-69.65.80.249
My external WAN server info is - 99.89.69.333
The internal IP address of my server is - 192.168.6.2
The other server shows up as 99.89.69.334 but is working fine.
I already added one server for Static route and RDP but when I try to put in same commands it doesnt allow me to for this new one. Please take a look at my configuration file and give me the commands i need in order to put this through. Also please tell me if there are any bad/conflicting entries.
THE FOLLOWING IS MY CONFIGURATION FILE
Also I have modified IP information so that its not the ACTUAL ip info for my server/network etc... lol for security reasons of course
Also the bolded lines are the modifications I made but that arent working.

ciscoasa(config-network)#Unclear what did not work. In your original post you include said some commands were added but don't work:
static (inside,outside) tcp interface 3389 192.168.6.2 3389 netmask 255.255.255.255
and later you state you add another command that gets an error:
static (inside,outside) tcp 99.89.69.333 3389 192.168.6.2 3389 netmask 255.255.255.255
You also stated that 99.89.69.333 (actually 99.89.69.233, guessing from the rest of your config and other posts) is your WAN IP address.
The first static statement matches Cisco's documentation, which states that a static statement must use the 'interface' directive when you are trying to do static PAT utilizing the IP address of the interface. Since 99.89.69.333 is the assigned IP address of your WAN interface, that may explain why the second statement fails.
Any reason why you are using static PAT (including the port number 3389) instead of just skipping that directive? Static PAT usually makes sense when you need to change the TCP port number. In your example, you are not changing the TCP port 3389. -
Need help with setting up VPN on a Cisco EPC3925 Modem
Hi everyone,
I need help setting VPN on Cisco EPC3925 modem (I tried using Help and I have read the entire section in the manual but the manual is not the same as the window I get in my settings. For example in the manual they say I can choose "all" under Remote Secure Gateway but there is no option like that).
When I go to the VPN section this is what I get:
1. Does this mean that I can connect to my modem via VPN from some other location? I would like to be able to connect to this modem when I am not at home from some remote location from my computer in order to be able to use NAS-Storage.
2. If the answer on the first question is yes, what settings I need to enter for the:
Local Secure Group
Remote Secure Group
Remote Secure Gateway
My ISP is using dynamic IP but I have DDNS.
My router local IP is 192.168.0.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Starting IP Address: 192.168.0.10
Here is how the advanced settings looks like:
Thanks in advance for your help!My problem similar too this. I create a tunnel between two epc3925 but impossible to send data between them.
The status is connected. What can I do? UPC tell me this router has only vpn client so i will doesn't work. -

VIC2-2FXS at Cisco 2811 ISR, is NM-HDV2 needed?
Hello,
I have a Cisco 2811 router that is configured as CUCME and working OK. So I need to connect a fax machine so I decided to take FXS card, but I don't know if I need to find NM-HDV2 to get VIC2-2FXS working on 2811, or it works at any of HWIC slots... I have FXO (VIC2-4FXO) working w/o any network module (installed at HWIC slot), so do I need such for FXS?
P.S.: I have PVDM2-8 installed in the router, will it be enough?
Thank you.The NM is not needed.
The PVDM that you have is enough. -
All,
Background Information:
I am a network engineer and I manage a small business network. The network consists of a couple of 3750G access switches and 2 6503-E switches (one of these also serves as an access layer switch). I am looking to upgrade my IOS on my external facing switch so that I can use a 16 port 10Gbe ethernet module. In this switch, I have a SUP-720 3B in slot 1, a 16 fiber port 10Gbe ethernet moduld in slot 2 (not online yet), and a 48 copper port 1Gbe ethernet module. In the SUP-720, I have one CompactFlash card in disk0.
This is where I need help:
Like I said, I'm trying to upgrade my IOS software in order to support my new ethernet line card. I know that the images are stored in flash memory. However the IFS on my switch seems to be confusing. He is a print out of the cd ? command:
bootflash:
cns:
const_nvram:
dfc#3-bootflash:
disk0:
disk1:
flexwan-fpd:
null:
nvram:
sup-bootdisk:
sup-bootflash:
sup-image:
sup-microcode:
syslog:
system:
tar:
tmpsys:
<cr>
Can someone please tell me what all of these directories are used for???? I'm not sure where to store the IOS image. When I change directories to sup-bootflash: it looks like it has the same contents as sup-bootdisk. Also, when I list the contents in disk0:, sup-bootflash shows up in there. Is this just a soft link to that directory? I'm really confused and would like to know what all of these directories are used for. Does anyone know of a good white paper that explains the function of these directories?
Thanks,
MannyManny
I am not prepared to try to explain all the directories, which is a pretty good question. But I can answer the most important of your questions. Put the new image into sup-bootflash.
HTH

ASA 5510 with Cisco 2811 Router Behind it - Not forwarding traffic
Hi all,
Some might know that I have been dealing with an issue where I cannot seem to get forwarded packets to reach their destinations behind an ASA 5510 that has a Cisco 2811 connected directly behind it.
Some examples that work.
I can SSH into the ASA.
I can SSH to the Cisco Routers behind the ASA.
I cannot reach items beind the Cisco Routers.
My Configuration is this (I am sure I included a bunch of info I didn't need to, but I am hoping it'll help!):
I have a static Ip assigned to my Ouside Interface Ethernet 0/1
It has an IP address of 199.195.xxx.xxx
I am trying to learn how to shape network traffic (this is all new to me) via the ASA and the Routers to specific devices.
The Inside Interface on the ASA is 10.10.1.1 255.255.255.252
The Outside Interface on the 2811 is 10.10.1.2 255.255.255.252
I can ping the router from the ASA. I can SSH through the ASA to the router.
BUT I CANNOT ACCESS DEVICES BEHIND THE ROUTER.
So, I wanted to BAM that statement above because I just don't kjnow where the issue is. Is the issue on the router or the ASA, my guess is, the router, but I just don't know.
Here are my configs, helpfully someone can help.
ASA errors on the ASDM when I try and hit resources; specifically a web device behind the ASA and the 2811. It's Ip address 192.168.1.5 it's listening on port 80.Static IP, not assigned via DHCP.

no message-leI ran those commands while I had the nat off on the router and here are the results. note, i didn't make any changes to the ASA as you only said to remove the router RIP which I did and reloaded and no change.
As long as the statements ip nat outside on the Fastethernet 0/0 is off and the ip nat inside is off on the vlan and the overload statement is taken out, I cannot hit the internet.

Cisco 2811 with NM-16A as Terminal server.
Hello,
I am currently looking for a Cisco terminal server solution to remotely access through console my private Cisco home lab. I am thinking of buying Cisco 2811 but I struggle to figure out the difference which ASYNC/SYNC MODULE to use. So, my question, is it possible to use NM-16A module with Cisco 2811 or HWIC-16A module must be used? And what is the difference between them?
I found on Cisco website that NM-16A is not supported on Cisco 2811, however some forums stated that it is possible.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/interface/configuration/guide/ir_nm16as.html#wp1027188
Your help is deeply appreciated.
Thank you,
ArikAsync is what you need.
I run this senario several places;
NAME: "chassis", DESCR: "2801 chassis"
PID: CISCO2801 ,
NAME: "WIC/VIC/HWIC 1", DESCR: "High Speed Wan Interface card with 16 RS232 async ports(HWIC-16A)"
PID: ,
NAME: "WIC/VIC/HWIC 3", DESCR: "9 Port FE Switch"
The HWIC is called HWIC-16A, but there is also a HWIC-8A
plus one or two CAB-HD8-ASYNC combo-squid-cables (green 1-to-8 with RJ45 plugs)
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/modules/ps5949/ps6182/product_data_sheet0900aecd80274416.html
then you run rotary groups on the async SLIP's, via the cfg.

Error registering a Cisco 2811 with a clustered CallManager 4.3
Hello, i'm having problems registering a Cisco 2811 Gateway with a VWIC2-1MFT-E1 interface card with Cisco CallManager 4.3.
The error displayed when debugging mgcp is the following:
//-1/xxxxxxxxxxxx/MGCP/mgcp_mp_get_not_entity(828):[lvl=2]
Invalid parameter (pkt 0x4708C5E8 pkt->mgcp_parm_lines 0x00000000)
I configured mgcp by the following:
mgcp
mgcp call-agent VOIPSVR1 2427 service-type mgcp version 0.1
mgcp dtmf-relay voip codec all mode out-of-band
mgcp rtp unreachable timeout 1000 action notify
mgcp restart-delay 300
mgcp package-capability rtp-package
no mgcp package-capability res-package
mgcp package-capability sst-package
no mgcp package-capability fxr-package
mgcp package-capability pre-package
no mgcp timer receive-rtcp
mgcp sdp simple
mgcp validate call-agent source-ipaddr
mgcp rtp payload-type g726r16 static
mgcp profile default
dial-peer voice 100 pots
service mgcpapp
direct-inward-dial
port 0/0/0:15
Previously, the gateway downloaded xml config files from the Cisco CallManager without problems and, in addition, when trying to add a Route Group (in the CallManager) this Gateway does not appear
in the list of Available Devices although
I have added it through the Device->Gateway Menu.
Need some advice and help. Thank you in advance.Hi Jose,
The Domain name issue is outlined nicely in this doc;
MGCP Gateway Registration Failure with Cisco CallManager
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/products_tech_note09186a00805a316c.shtml#prob
If the IP domain name is configured in Cisco IOS on the MGCP gateway, enter the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) in the Domain Name field.
In the example: test and cisco.com represent the hostname and domain name respectively. If the IP domain name is not configured in Cisco IOS on the MGCP gateway, enter only the hostname of the MGCP gateway in the Domain Name field.
You would enter test.cisco.com (in CCM)
Hope this helps!

Packet drops while policing in cisco 2811
Hello,
Need help in understanding why packet drop occurs while applying policing in Cisco 2811 running 12.4(24)T7. The drops occurs only when we ping with any packet size more than 500. There is no drops when we remove the policing and when we pinging without packet size. Exceed packets drop counter increases even when the traffic is less than 30% of the CIR value. Checked increasing the Bc value but still no change.

Ah, so you are using a large series of pings, 1,000, and you also have a large bandwidth delta FE (?) to 1 Mbps.
If 1,000 packets are each 500 bytes, that would comprise about 500 KB. Your Bc is 384 KB, so when that's exceeded, packets will be dropped, up to about 116 KB worth for the 1,000 at 500 bytes, each.
I believe ping series pause a little between transmissions, which would decrease the actual transmission rate, and thereby also decrease actual drops.
Do you see drops decrease as you increase Bc or drops increase as you decrease Bc, when performing the same transmission test?
Likewise do you see drops decrease as you increase CIR or drops increase as you decrease CIR, again when performing the same transmission test?
The thing to remember with policers, actual transmission is always at line-rate. What they are measuring is capacity utilization. When you set CIR at 1 Mbps, a policer is insuring actual usage, during some Tc, doesn't exceed what that transmission rate would send, but as the actual transmission rate is faster, it can exceed the measured capacity. Again, this is happens with a large amount of data sent.
To better see/understand a policer's impact, use a traffic generator that you can control transmission rates (and transmission amount). A policer shouldn't drop a constant bit rate that's at or below its measured rate. However, once you exceed the measured rate, you can send, back-to-back packets, at full line rate, and they won't be dropped at long as you don't exceed the amount that are allowed during the measured period; in you case 384 KB (which is a huge amount for 1 Mbps CIR, or about a 3 second Tc [as also calculated by Vasilii]).
