Cisco 2951 router AC-PoE power consumption, meaning of the mention "Platform Only" in the datasheet.
Hello,
I have a question regarding the power consumption of a Cisco 2951 router with an AC-PoE power supply (without PoE boost).
In fact in the table (n°7) of the Cisco 2900 Series ISR (G2) datasheet, that sum up the power consumption data for Cisco 2900 series routers there is the line : "Maximum Power with PoE Power Supply (Platform Only) (Watts)", and I would like to know what is exactly the meaning about the mention "Platform Only".
Thank you for your help, best regards,
Hi @francois.trarieux,
This is the maximum power that is consumed exclusively by the router from the PoE PS (Power Supply). The power capacity that the PoE PS gives to other PoE devices (IP Phones, Cameras, APs, etc) is specified in the line below "Maximum End-Point PoE Power Available from PoE Power Supply (Watts)" of the datasheet.
HTH.

Contact Center Enhanced License for Cisco 2951 Router
Hi,
I need an urgent help to get the exact part number/details of Contact center enhanced license.
I couldn't find in CCW or any other tool about this license with Cisco 2951 Router (CISCO2951-V/K9).
To run this license on mentioned router, do we need to order it separately or we can take it with router?
Please respond asap.Hi Andre,
I was just refering the Ordering guide which says
Updating UCSS contract when upgrading Unified CCX licenses
UCSS cannot be upgraded from one category to another (e.g. Standard to Enhanced). If
the customer upgrades within the solution, they need to purchase UCSS for greater or
equal value to cover the new version, then they can request a credit on the unused term
of the original purchase from Customer Service
you can also speak to [email protected] for more details on ESW.

Hello, im about to but an ssd and dont want to pick a drive with more energy consumption to reduce the battery time so i wonder if someone knows the conumption for the Hitachi HTS545032B9A302 drive on the new macbook pro or in worst case if someone dares to approximately guess the consumption in W(Watt)
Does the hard drive label say 5V 700ma?
You might look at the Hitachi spec sheet for the A300/A301's, which have the same power specs: http://www.hitachigst.com/tech/techlib.nsf/techdocs/FFA370A7BF845F87862574FE0003 054C/$file/TS5K500B_DS_final.pdf -
Cisco 2951 poe limitation for switch module ?
Hi , i have cisco 2951 router with switch module :
SM-D-ES3G-48-P
there are many poe devices connetced to the switch module .
the problem we face is , sometime the poe devices get down and up (flapping)
after investigatipon by command
show power inline police
i found the devices is getting about 60 Watt , and there is remaining power about 200 watt.
the question is , how to investigate and troubleshoot this issue ?
is there any limitation in the power for that platform ?Hi ,
thanks for reply
the issue is :
interfaces get down , then up
some times it still down and take long time to be up agian !!
exactly if i did shutdown , then no shutdown
thats the problem that we face !
sorry cant access the swith now , if i can i will post the config i have.
thanks for ur time

hi all,
I want to do VoIP , with cisco 2951 router with cme 9.0. I just want to know can i connect differnt branch ip phone in differnt subnet in single centralized cme router 2951.
that is for differnt branch ip phone there is differnt dhcp pool and then interVlan routing or as such.
i have already done it for 1 location ,can i uses that single router to connect there all branch office?
thank you
regards,
vishakhaYes that works. The phones get an IP from the local site with the info where to reach the TFTP-Server (which is typically the CME). From there the phones load a config file and learn the IP of the CME. The rest is pure routing from the phone to the CME.
I don't know where marin and thana is, just make sure that the delay and jitter between the sites is inside an accepted range of < 150ms (latency) and < 30 ms (jitter).

Can I buy an Airport Express plug-in wifi signal booster to connect to a Cisco wireless router, or do I have to buy an Airport Extreme base station to make the Airport Express plug-in work?
You would need either an AirPort Extreme or an AirPort Express connected to the Cisco router, with a permanent Ethernet cable connection.
Configure the Extreme or Express that is connected to the Cisco router to "create a wireless network".
Then, you could add an AirPort Express to "extend a wireless network" to provide more wireless coverage for the network that the Extreme or Express would be creating.
Remember that the Express can only "extend" the quality of signal that it receives, so it must be located where it can receive a strong signal from the "main" AirPort.
If you don't need the Cisco wireless signal, you could turn it off.....or use that network for guests or something similar.
The bottom line here......you always need two Apple routers if you want to extend the network wirelessly. -
I have a Nokia N86 which is 2 years old.
I have been experiencing a problem with battery drainage since I bought it. The battery meter suddenly drops from 5 bars to one bar when I browse the net using HSDPA, after about 30mins or so, when the phone is already hot. I sent it into service once, because it happened very randomly and it did not look like a major issue. They said they recalibrated the battery. After a week of somehow uniform battery draining, the battery started going flat suddenly, again, from 5-6 bars to "low battery".
I went to a service center again to check if it's the battery or the phone. Nokia Energy Profiler says that the current is about 400-500mA when using HSDPA. The engineer at the service center connected a power supply with measurable current consumption, and during the usage of HSDPA, the current was at least 800mA, with almost 1000mA peaks. He said that these current intensities damage the battery in about a month and that he would not recommend changing the battery, but the HSDPA chip. The warranty period expired a month ago.
I am asking you guys:are these values normal? 800-1000mA during HSDPA usage for a Nokia N86? I need a serious, valid opinion from somebody who really knows mobile hardware. Thank you. This has happened to me every now and then. First it seems as if the battery is almost full and then it's suddenly empty even without using the device much.
Sometimes the device feels warm. In those cases I just reboot it.
Obvious things to check would be that BlueTooth and WLAN are off if you don't need them.
Sometimes the switch of the kickstand has activated when I have carelessly thrown the phone on a bed for example. If you have defined it to start an application that could cause some power consumption.
I haven't tried to measure my power consumption. I guess there are two options:
- the device actually consumes a lot of power sometimes
- the battery indicator isn't always up-to-date i.e. it shows several bars when the battery is actually almost empty.
It's a shame because it's a pretty nice phone and I quite like it. Luckily it's quite a rare problem.
(But not that great if the battery dies during a bicycle trip just because I have SportsTracker running.) -
How to install 2-port vic3 2fxs/DID and 2-port vic2 fxo on cisco 2801 router
Hello
I'm looking for information on how to install 2 newly purchased cards and keep running into dead links. The cards I bought are for a CISCO-2801-CCME/K9 with PVDM2-8, FL-CCME-25, SP Services 128F/256D cisco router:
vic3 2fxs/DID and a vic2 2fxo.
I keep finding documents on how to install these cards but all links are dead and leading to nowhere.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/access/interfaces/ic/hardware/installation/guide/2port_FXS_DID_VIC.html#wp1065062
The 2 documents i'm looking for are: how to install a 2-port vic2 fxo cards on cisco 2801 router and how to install 2-port vic3 2fxs/DID cards on the same 2801 cisco router.
NOTE: I've never installed these cards and am not sure if:
Does my ios support both of these cards?
and which slots do I install those in the router.
I have 4 slots like this:
slot 0: This slot only accepts VIC's ***This could be used for the vic3 2fxs/DID card correct?
slot 1: Nothing written here ****What can i install in this slot?
slot 2: This slot only accepts VIC's and WIC's ***If I buy a WIC and install here which other slot can i install my VIC2-2FXO card in ?
slot 3: Nothing written here ***What can i install in this slot?
Any chance someone can help me out with this.
Thanks very muchOk
I was able to figure out what goes where and found out that the IOS i had c-2801-spservicesk9-mz.124-15.T10.bin with cme-full-4.1.0.2 tar didn't support the vic3 2fxs/DID card. I then found the one that works which is the c2801-spservicesk9-mz.124-22.YB5.bin.I am now able to see my new hardware interfaces. The question I have now is since the previous version ran with cme-full-4.1.0.2 tar i'm not sure if this needs to be changed since in the compatibility matrix i found this IOS c2801-spservicesk9-mz.124-22.YB5.bin to be compatible with cme-full-7.1.0.0 tar
Do i need to remove cme-full-4.1.0.2 tar and install the cme-full-7.1.0.0 tar?
If yes, i know how to install the cme-full-7.1.0.0 tar but how do i remove the other cme-full-4.1.0.2 tar file in order to be able to install the other version?
Thanks -
[SOLVED] Huge power consumption after kernel upgrade.
Dear All,
I have recently bought the new lenovo thinkpad X1 equipped with a Core I5 processors and 4GB of RAM.
I am quite satisfied with this machine except for the fact that the fan is extremely loud (but perhaps a bios upgrade will fix problem).
Now my problem:
When I first installed Arch (first days of August) I ran powertop and the power consumption was around 10 Watts when idle with wifi card turned off.
Now, after some upgrades, the power consumption raises to 18W in idle and consequently the battery lasts less than 2h.
Here my current configuration:
Linux think-x1 3.0-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Aug 30 08:53:25 CEST 2011 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2520M CPU @ 2.50GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

0.1% ( 0.3) watchdog/0
I have also tried to disable most of the running daemons and unload some modules, but I have never got less than 14/15W when idle, which in my opinion is definitely too much!
As far as I'm concerned, the kworker process is responsible most of the wakeups.
Any ideas?

enabling it by default in 3.0 caused regressions for some people, so it was
disabled. Hopefully Intel figures it out, and we can switch it back on by
default in 3.1 / 2.6.41 (until then, you'll have to set it by hand).
Interesting stuff, also recommend this thread on phoronix:

Hi,
I am trying to reach the remote network server which is using the Cisco 1700 router. I can ping the router Serial & FE interface but I couldn't reach the remote host. There is no accesslist and all.
I suspect that the traffic was not passing on to the LAN interface. Once the router has been restarted it works normal and after some time the same problem is occuring again and again.
In router log also I couldn't see any errors.
can some one help me out on this?.Mahendra,
Couple of quick checks:
1. Are you able to ping the server from the 1700 when you are not able to ping from the remote end.
2. If no, then is there a ARP Entry for the server on the router.
3. What about on the server, is there a ARP Entry for the router or the gateway
4. Is this the only srever that you are having issues or all the servers.
5. Can you check the drivers on the server NIC to make sure its updated.
If your problem pinging the server is only from the remote side, do provide some additional information on the types of links, connection, source/destination ip, routing, acl, etc.
Let me know if it helps.

App Power Consumption and Restrict
Settings > Power Management > App power consumption
If there is any app listed in the UNUSED APPS section, tap into the app, there is an "Restrict" button.
Can someone help to explain what does it do? If an app is restricted, how can I unrestrict it? Where to see a list of restricted app?
Thanks.Hi,
When an application is not in use, it can consume processing power and thereby reduce the battery consumption. As far as I know, when you press the restrict button, you will force a shutdown of the application (to make sure it's not an active app in the background e.g). It's the same thing as you can do if you go to Settings > Apps > The tab "All" > Tap an app > Force stop.

Can i lower cisco 4506 power consumption.
I just bought old cisco 4506 with SUP4 + 2x48GB 3x48FE poe and have a plan to use it in my small office. (>20 port GB used)
I heard this chassis is power sucker so i need to lower it power consumption. can you tell me what i can do? such as
shutdown module that i doesn't used.
shutown some switchport.
power off 2nd power supply.
or your guys has alternative way ex. Cisco EnergyWise?
ThanksI'm using EnergyWise. I don't see any relevance as to WHY you would want to use it. I also don't see any information about your PoE requirement, hence, no comment on how you'd like to save money by powering down PoE.
The power requirement for the 4506 would, most likely, be LESS than getting six PoE switches individually.
I mean, if you don't use PoE, the line cards will only draw what is required. So trying to save money from energy consumption of the chassis won't make a lot of sense. -
Power consumption with 5 Cisco CISCO AP1131G etc.
Hello everyone
I need to calculate our Cisco's network equipment's total max power consumption to choose UPS model.
We have following equipments in house.
CISCO 1941 integrated service router with WIC-1T-Use serial interface card (it says max 110w)
CISCO ASA5505 Firewall (it says max 96w)
Linksys slm224p unknown Wattage with 5 Cisco access Point AP1131G (18w each) connected through PoE ports
There is spec sheet of slm224P which doesn't specify it's own power consumption. (attached PDF)
On rear panel of SLM224p it says 3A, if this is his consumption being connected to 220v power line, it might consume 660W
but it seems too much for a single switch without PoE ?
Any idea or comments would be appreciated.

Hi,
I am planning to use above switch for my project.
Please let me know the exact power consideration for this switch.
[ 27W (AC) or 130W (AC) (100V x 1.3A) ] Power Consumption = Volt x Current.
I have below two snaps from your site, hence got confused which value to be considered as power consumption for this switch.

What should I consider as power required for Switch ?
Is it 1.3A @ 110/240 VAC ?
Or
Is it 30W ?
