Cisco 2960S SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION

Hi All
I have a issue connecting my Cisco 3750X 12 port fibre switch to my Cisco 2960S 24Port switch using Multi Mode Fibre.
I have Mode condtioning cables connecting to the SFP (GLC-LH-SMD) on the 3750 via a fibre patch panel which bring me to the 2960s with its Mode conditioning cable and SFP (GLC-LH-SMD).
The fibre port on the Cisco 2960S was up for all of 10 mins and has gone out with the following error message.
%SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION: Gi1/0/26: Rx power high warning; Operating value:  -2.7 dBm, Threshold value:  -3.0 dBm.
I did a show int transceiver command and got the following output.
DS-THN-SW3#show interfaces transceiver
If device is externally calibrated, only calibrated values are printed.
++ : high alarm, +  : high warning, -  : low warning, -- : low alarm.
NA or N/A: not applicable, Tx: transmit, Rx: receive.
mA: milliamperes, dBm: decibels (milliwatts).

Port       (Celsius)    (Volts)  (dBm)     (dBm)
Gi1/0/26     25.2       3.31      -5.1     -28.5
All SFP's are new as is the Multi Mode Fibre cable running from one building to another.

Hi All,
One of  member port of port channel was flapping and Here is the error message
Error log:
.Mar 17 08:27:37: %SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION: Te6/1/1: Tx power low alarm; Operating value: -40.0 dBm, Threshold value: -11.3 dBm.
Cisco TAC analyse the issue under 629566213 but  their initial advices was not much experience oriented.
Finally I have resolved the issue just by entering following command.
switch 6 frulink reload

    Hello,
I have a switch 3750X connected to a nexus 5000 via DWDM SFP (C3KX-NM-10G). The IOS of the 3750X is universalk9 12.2(58)SE2 and of the Nexus 5.2(1)N1(2a).
I get all 10 seconds on the 3750x the following error:
%SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION: Te2/1/2: Rx power high alarm; Operating value:  -1.7 dBm, Threshold value:  -6.0 dBm.
When I add a buffer attenuator, nothing changed.
Is this a bug of cisco or what can I do?

    Hello,
I have same issues on our network on all non Cisco X2 modules starting on nearly the same day (devices have nearly same update). I can't say that it is only cosmetic nature due to the fact that after a lot of these messages happened I registered SPT topology changes. This happened on several of my devices but it is not very often. For our customers it is a two second hit, where services are not available. Our software is on the 15.0 release train so a lot of possibilities to upgrade to higher versions are not given at this time.
Are in the above mentioned Cisco internal Bug (ID CSCth08212/CSCte94616) additional information which can be helpful but are not open to people outside TAC?
    With kind regards
    Stefan
I forgot to mention that the message in my case describes a lot of temperature alerts (ranging from -130°C up to 130°C) that are violated and less of alerts belonging to the power.

    Hi,
I am facing a strange problem in one of my Cisco Catalyst 4900M switch. We have a ten gig WAN link which went down (error-disabled) couple of weeks back with logs suggesting Low TX power.
Tried followingtroubleshooting approach, but it did not resolve the problem.
    SFP replaced
Tried connecting the link on a different port.
Fibers tested and found to be OK
Performed loop test and was able to see the loop on both end of the P2P link.
Replaced the Cables between PTT demarcation till switch patch panel.

  • CET: %SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION: Te1/1: Rx power high warning; Operating value: -0.9 dBm, Threshold value: -1.0 dBm.

    Hei
we have some switches that are connected with our nexus switches via SFP-10GLR. all switches are ok but only one is getting warnings in the logs saying: CET: %SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION: Te1/1: Rx power high warning; Operating value:  -0.9 dBm, Threshold value:  -1.0 dBm.
all the SFP,s are same in alle switches.

    %SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION Vs SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION.
The first one is printed for the ports that are configured, but not connected/active.
You can avoid such error messages simply shutting down unused ports.
The latter indicates that there is a real threshold violation.
For more details on these error messages, check out.

    Action Plan:
    ========
Can you please try clearing the interface counters, so that we can notice the frequency of errors.
Also I researched on the logs that we are observing on our device and have seen cases where the issue has been resolved by physically removing and reinserting transceiver.

  • Cisco 2960-X & ISE accounting- username Radius attribute missing

    Hi,
I'm facing an issue with cisco 2960 switch radius accounting with Cisco ISE1.2.1 .here is my senario:
    - Username (vendor1) is configured in ISE local database, under  group (VENDOR)
    - Authentication protocol : wired  MAB
    - Authentication method : webauth  using guest portal  , the user is a  vendor  , so no dot1x configured on his NIC .
the problem is that , the switch is not sending the username as a part of radius attribute , in the authentication log , the username shown as the MAC address of the user machine , therefor , I can not configure my authorization condition using  internaluser:Name  Equal  vendor1
while if  I configure the condition using the identity group condition  IdentityGroup:Name  Equal  VENDOR  , it works .
The same configuration is working on 3750 switch  with no issue .
    Here is my Switch config:
    aaa authentication login default local
aaa authentication dot1x default group radius
aaa authorization network default group radius
aaa authorization auth-proxy default group radius
aaa accounting auth-proxy default start-stop group radius
aaa accounting dot1x default start-stop group radius
    aaa accounting update periodic 5
    username admin password
    username radius-test password
    aaa server radius dynamic-author
     client 172.16.2.20 server-key 7 04490A0206345F450C00
     client 172.16.2.21 server-key 7 03165A0F0F1A32474B10
    radius server ISE-RADIUS-1
     address ipv4 172.16.2.20 auth-port 1812 acct-port 1813
     automate-tester username radius-test idle-time 15
     key 7 111B18011E0718070133
    radius server ISE-RADIUS-2
     address ipv4 172.16.2.21 auth-port 1812 acct-port 1813
     automate-tester username radius-test idle-time 15
     key 7 0214055F02131C2A4957
    radius-server attribute 6 on-for-login-auth
    radius-server attribute 8 include-in-access-req
    radius-server attribute 25 access-request include
    radius-server attribute 31 mac format ietf upper-case
    radius-server attribute 31 send nas-port-detail
    radius-server dead-criteria time 5 tries 3
    radius-server vsa send accounting
    radius-server vsa send authentication
    any help  !!!

Thanks for your reply , I know what's MAB , if you read my explanation again , i mentioned that the user is authenticated in the guest portal which mean that I have web authentication , and it is working fine .. The only issue is that I can not use the vendor1 username as part of authorization condition and this is because the switch is not sending the radius attribute type 1 to the ISE , thus , on the ise authentication log the MAC address  of the client machine is shown as a username not the actual username ( vendor1)
as I mentioned also , I have exactly the same setup with ise 1.2 and 3750 switch and I do not have this issue .I experience this with 2960x only .

    HI Mark,
    Here is the my config:
Create sub-interfaces, set 802.1Q trunking protocol and ip address on each sub-interface
    Router(config)#interface f0/0
    Router(config-if)#no shutdown
(Note: The main interface f0/0 doesn’t need an IP address but it must be turned on)
    Router(config)#interface f0/0.10

    Router(config-subif)#ip address 192.168.20.1 255.255.255.0
(Note: In the “encapsulation dot1q 10″ command, 10 is the VLAN ID this interface operates in)
    Configure VLAN
    Switch(config)#vlan 10
    Switch(config-vlan)#name SALES

  • Nexus 2K to Cisco 2960 IOS Switch

    Hi,
I am trying to connect Nexus 2K FEX to Cisco 2960 IOS Switch (Trunk config) and causing spanning tree loop having issues. I am aware that I should't be connecting non host port to 2K FEX but it's corner case. I have done similar setup with Access Port configuration and didn't faced any issues.

Should I configure port as "spanning-tree port type network" and create VPC and "storm-control broadcast level" to stop future occurrence?  OR Do i have to configure anything else to prevent spanning-tree loops?
    Thanks for your help
    Ritesh

    Hi,
spanning-tree port type network is used for VPC peer-link.  Try creating a new VPC and add ports 107/1/47 and 108/1/47 to it and a Portchannel on the 2960 and test.

I am not sure what IOS version you are using but here's my recommendation:
    1.  If you are running 12.2 then use 12.2(55)SE8; or
    2.  If you are running 15.X then use 15.0(2)SE4.
Don't even bother using the others.

  • Optic power levels - %SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION

Can some explain this to me...
%SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION: Te1/0/1: Tx power low alarm
If I am getting a LOW TX alert the issue can't be with the fibre and it has to be something do to with the optic / line card / software or chassis. I presume DOM is reporting this before the light is put onto the link... as in before it even touches the fibre.
    Any help is much appreciated.

    Hi
It could be a bad transceiver.  Did you try reseating the transceiver once?
If not helping please try replacing it and check.

  • Gigabitethernet negotiation problem with cisco 2960

    Hi
    I have 2 cisco 2960 switches. one is a WS-C2960-48TT-L Version 12.2(25r)SEE1 and the other WS-C2960-48TC-L Version 12.2(25r)FX.
When i build a trunk between the gigabit ethernet ports, WS-C2960-48TC-L end shows me half duplex with autonegotiation whereas it is hard coded on the WS-C2960-48TT-L.
Iam not able to set the speed and duplex for the port on the 2nd switch.
Is this a bug with the 2960 or a compatibility feature between the 2 2960's
    Narayan

    Hello Narayan,
Has the speed and dubplex settings on the 2960 been configured? In that case auto-negotiation frames are not sent and the switchport cannot determine the speed/duplex from it's link partner. It will automatically choose 1000 half-duplex.
