Cisco 3602i vs 3602e

Hello,guys.
I need your advice. Can  anybody tell me how many built in antennas does 3602i Cisco AP have?
As far as i know 3600 has 4x4 MIMO. I think that 3602i must have 8 buit in antennas - four transmit
antennas and four receive antennas; 3602e has only four external...
So, is it better to use for indoor applications 3602i compared to 3602e in terms of perfomance, range and speed???

External antennas perform better than internal.  External antennas have more uniform radiation patterns, and that translates to more predictable coverage when you lay out access points on a floor.
Another downside of internal antenna is that its ground plane is too close to the radiator and this causes more radiation to vertical direction than horizontal.  This means less horizontal coverage area at the same power level.  Don't be fooled by those antenna gains too much.  Antenna patterns are more important than gains.
As you need dual-band antennas for 3602e model, you only have limited choices.
There is a duplexer inside the AP to distinguish RF signals of 2.4GHz and 5GHz so that they can coexist simulatneously in the same radiator.

I have a couple 3600s that dont want to join.  One i and one e that are both doing the samething.  It is able to find the controller via layer 3 discovery but it is acting like it is a mesh AP when it tries to join the controller.

I should note that 3500 APs are able to join this controller.  The field guy is going to try to add the MAC address to the filter list when he gets back out on site to see if it allows it to join.  I am just kind of wondering if anyone else has seen this problem or as any insight on the issue.
    Thanks!

There have been other post just like yours. Some APs have the mesh image and it required you to add te Mac address then you can change the ap mode.

  • 3602I and or 3602E Iphone Connection Problems

    Hi,
We are using two WAP devices and are both experiencing the same issue.
    WLC Controller 2504 (running 7.3.101.0)
    WAP Devices 3602I and 3602E
The issue we are having is that Iphones cannot connect and or at times see the SSID's that are enabled. Sometimes the SSID's will show up and then dissapear.
I can have the Iphone sitting right next to the WAP and it not even show up and when it does show up when I try to connect it either fails or the connection is so bad that when doing a speed test it times out.
I have 3 different Iphones some running the latest IOS 6 and some still on IOS 5 for testing.
    Android Devices are working flawlessly
Windows and OSX laptops and desktops are working flawlessly
I have tried a number of options that are suggested here in the community but nothing seems to be working.

    Hi Scott,
I have tried using the settings that you suggested and although I am able to connect the speeds are pitiful. I have attached screen shots of my speed test and configuration within the controller. I am having great results with 5GHz devices. IPAD, MacBook Pro, Mac Book Air, Android devices.

  • How to broadcast both 5.0 Ghz and 2.4 Ghz?

I have a computer science background but not much knowledge of computer networks and installation. I just installed a cisco 3602i router connected to a 2500 wireless controller. Everything is working fine, the SSID is broadcasting and users can connect to the network. My question is this: in order to use both 2.4 and 5 Ghz band radios, do I need to create a new and separate SSID? I honestly cannot find online how to even select 5.0 vs 2.4 in the web GUI or CLI. Am I just completely missing something or are the frequencies just automatically chosen when connected to the network>?

My question is this: in order to use both 2.4 and 5 Ghz band radios, do I need to create a new and separate SSID?
If you go to WLAN > SSID and look under Radio Policy, it will tell you which radio the SSID will be broadcasted.  If you chose "All" then the SSID will be broadcasted on both radios.

  • Multiple SSIDS and disappearing

We have Cisco 3602i access points for the most part, all of which advertise multiple SSIDs.
Very occasionally we see an SSID completely disappear from view, even though others remain solid (I can't say it's all devices as the majority of people who raise the issue have apple devices, but there are the odd one or two who use Windows laptops).
Also, the RSSI seems to fluctuate wildly.
I should add that we have disabled up to 11mbps data rates on the controller and we're running 7.6.100.0 currently, but plan to upgrade to 7.6.110.0 tonight.
I guess my question is how can an SSID just drop off the client view if others on the same AP are fine?
How does the AP deal with multiple SSIDs and does it prioritise?
I have to add that I've never had this issue and I'm just using a company standard HP laptop with an Intel chipset.

    Hello,
    See my comments:
Also, the RSSI seems to fluctuate wildly.
A: This is often how a device hears the frames. Sometimes in high interference you can epxect this to jump around. I normally like to see if all the devices are doing this or just a select few. Sometimes poor clients jump around more than others.
I should add that we have disabled up to 11mbps data rates on the controller and we're running 7.6.100.0 currently, but plan to upgrade to 7.6.110.0 tonight.
A: I dont think turning off lower rates are bad unless your WiFi cant support the design. Good call get on the latest.
I guess my question is how can an SSID just drop off the client view if others on the same AP are fine?
A: Again, its a client missing frames like beacons.
How does the AP deal with multiple SSIDs and does it prioritise?
A: This SSIDs are virtualized. I blogged how this is done:
    http://www.my80211.com/home/2011/5/2/wlc-how-cisco-virtualizes-the-base-radio-mac-address-on-the.html
I have to add that I've never had this issue and I'm just using a company standard HP laptop with an Intel chipset.
A: Again I think if you search you might see this is more around specific devices. I would do a packet capture and see what is going on. Recently had to troubleshoot an Android only to find out it was just bad wifi client. Always sending NULL frames and scanning and not passing traffic

  • Key provided but cannot decrypt wireless packets

    Hi,
I'm working on a case for a Hospital and seeking advice as client is pretty unhappy with lack of resolution.
Cisco 5508 WLCs HA-SSO running latest 7.6.130. Cisco 3602i APs.
After an upgrade to the WLC code some time ago and/or network upgrades, the client's wireless pump devices stopped communicating. We have capture from NetMon v3.4 and capture shows the pumps de-authenticating, but TAC claims they cannot decrypt packets even though key was provided and we can login from a laptop with that same key no problem.
    Any observations, suggestions, recommendations appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Getting Apple TV's to work on our wireless network

    Hey Cisco Professionals,
Hopefully you can help me with (for me and my limited knowledge) a mind dazzling situation we are facing. Its very strange as it only works partly. Sometimes we can see our Apple TV, sometimes we cannot. The only way to get them visible (when we cannot see them) is to restart them (sometimes several reboots are required) Then the apple tv is visible but after a while we cannot connect with it anymore. (ping still works) . A while later we cannot even see the device.
We have a fully integraded Cisco network. Our network contains 2 Cisco 5508 Controllers (redundant), 2 3750x Switches (layer 3 Redundant – acting as our core switch) , several 3750x Switches and Several Cisco 3602i Access Points.  Our Apple TV’s and the devices (Ipads, Iphones etc) connecting with the Apple TV’s function in the same Vlan.
On the Wlan Controller we have Global Multicast enabled and IGMP Snooping Enabled. AP Multicast mode is set as Multicast with an group addres of 239.255.255.2
Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there something we forgot to do? Would love to have ur input. Thanks in advance!
    Kind regards,
    Wouter Platteeuw

    Hi Wouter,
My first question would be what software build you are running on your 5508 controllers?  Also, is multicast properly configured on the wired side for bonjour?
    Cheers,
    Erwin

  • 5 ghz for 3602 access point?

With Cisco 3602I , which is a b/g/n device, does much does the spectrum does the client get. Is it 2.4 ghz only or some other value?
    thanks in advance!

The 3602 is a a/b/g/n device.  So you have both the 2.4ghz and the 5ghz on the 3600's.  Clients decide on what radio band they will associate to.  I don't really understand what you mean by how much of the spectrum the clients get... The AP, depending on what country it is configured for will have available channels to use on each the 2.4ghz and the 5ghz band.  Again, it depends on the country code for the AP... whats allowed and the clients decide what band it will associate to.
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • 5 GHz vs. 2.4 GHz WLANs

I am preparing to set up guest wireless access in a dorm environment with a Cisco 5508 WLAN controller and Cisco 3602i APs.  According to the book I've been reading, it recommends that I set up a WLAN for 802.11a/n clients in the 5 GHz range and another WLAN for 802.11b/g clients in the 2.4 GHz range.  It recommends giving them an SSID like "Guest - 5GHz" and "Guest - 2.4 GHz" respectively.  Their reasoning is to allow the best experience for 802.11n users while still supporting legacy devices.  Is this a good idea, or should I simply set up a single WLAN for 802.11b/g/n on in the 2.4 GHz range until the 5GHz range has greater adoption?

    Ryan,
never use the managment vlan for any WLAN. Other wise clients will be sitting in the same VLAN as your managment intrerfaces to you WLCs.
As Scott pointed out. You should map your guest to a sperate VLAN that is either anchored to another WLC in the DMZ OR has ACLs blocking it from the network.
Also, make sure you apply proper QoS settings to your guest traffic so they dont take priority over your other traffic. If you give guest bronze status the NAC timers are longer for guest clients.

  • Cisco Aironet 3602I is stand alone or need a controller ????..

    Hello,
Can any help me with this questions ?...thanks you.
Cisco Aironet 3602I  is stand alone or need a controller ????..
    David Chavarria

in General APs can be converted to work with autonomous (standalone) image or an LWAPP/CAPWAP image that needs controller.
for 3600 series APs however there are no support for autonomous image and you can only use it on WLC with version 7.2 or above (7.0 does not work).
7.2 version does not work on all WLC platforms and only works on new platforms like WiSM2 and 2500 WLCs.
I think everyone above mentioned what I wrote but I just tries ot make a good summary.

  • Cisco 3602e CAPWAP will not join vWLC

I am having a rather troubling issue.  I had an access point that was connected to my virtual wireless lan controller.  It worked fine in the testing environment, but then I tried to roll the environment over to production.  This meant connecting the AP to the primary Wireless Lan Controller.  The original lan controller would have become the primary but I could not get the management interface moved over to the VLAN I wanted it on.
(Not sure why that did not work, but regardless I had to reinstall the controller and enter 3 as the VLAN during the initial config to get it to take.)
So now I am trying to connect the AP to a new controller and the old controller is gone.  No matter what I try it will not connect.  My controller says that there is not an entry in the database.  The times on the 2 devices do not match up, and the certificate fails during the initialization process.  I cannot set the time on the AP because I cannot connect to it.  So I just set the wrong time on my controller so they would match, but no luck there either.  I cannot connect via the console port on any speed or setting for flow control.  I cannot telnet or SSH.  I can access the web interface but I have no options to change anything.  I am told that running a write erase command on the AP will reset it so I can connect it to the new controller, but I cannot access this device to run that command.  Is there a fault in the console port on this device?  Is there any other way to force this device to join the new controller?  I already tried setting it as the master controller and removing the arp cache.  No idea how to remove the MAC cache.  I get the error that the AP is not found in the temporary database.  Is there any way I can add it manually?  It fails on the certificate, can I disable the use of certificates/authentication of any kind at least until I can wipe this AP?

Just wanted to note that I was able to gain access to my AP finally.  The console cable I was using was bad.  Now I have a different issue.  Apparently the IOS is corrupt and wont boot.  I tried changing the os to a different version within the flash folder, which got the device to boot, but then it rebooted right back into the other IOS and failed when I restarted the AP.  I entered the set boot command with the image name of the working IOS but that did not seem to do anything.  I then deleted the faulty IOS and now the boot process just cycles even when manually tell it to boot from the one that worked.  Is there a location on the device that keeps an archive of the IOS?  I would like to just erase my flash folder and start over with a new IOS.
If no archive then is there a location where I can download the IOS for this?  I want to try to avoid Cisco smartnet... I feel troubled paying thousands for something that I already own.

  • 3602E won't connect to 5508 WLAN

    Hi all,
This is a lab system that I'm just building out- I try to see the obvious but it does bite me occasionally.  I have a 5508 WLC running release 7.4.1.  My AP's are all Cisco 3602E's with the AC modules.  My problem is that the Access points can't seem to join the WLAN- I can see them talking, debug output below. They are pingable from the WLC CLI, verified that options 43 and 60 are ok, Here's my debug:
Under SECURITY > AAA > AP Policies the only thing checked is:

Odd thing is that I am seeing this under recent traps, although I am not using any AAA sergver or RADIUS server- none are configured at all.
    Thanks!

I would upgrade your wireless LAN controller to 7.5 version because the 802.11ac technology is supported on that version only so the access point might be waiting for that version to join. I say might because I don't have access points with ac modules yet but I am completelly sure and possitive that 802.11ac is supported from the 7.5 version so, if you have the modules and want to use the ac technology you will need to upgrade your WLC anyways.

  • 3602i Errors in log, bad throughput

I just acquared a 3602i.  It was running lightweight, but I changed it to autonomous.
From the start I notced absomal throughput when only 10-20 feet away, bouncing from 0 to 7 Mb/s when using iperf over a 30 second period.  If I used the same client on my 3502, I get a solid consistant throughput of 37 Mb/s.
When I looked at the logs, I noticed the following section:

Those errors are none that I have seen before.
Ideas?  I have an idea what is wrong, but I wanted some feedback before suggesting anything.  The performance is bad with more than just this specific client that I'm testing with.
    Thanks

I'm running the latest autonomous code (July 31st 2013) - ap3g2-k9w7-xx.152-4.JA1 , but I was also running an old one and had the same errors as I originally posted.
I finally got around the testing again with my two APs

    > 3602i only should work in lap mode, what IOS you used to covert it to AP mode?
Autonomous code has been released by Cisco, it's available from the support/download page.  While I totally understand these classes of lighweight radios were meant to only be used this way and that autonomous was for surveying with a limited feature set, my 3502i has worked flawless for 4+ months.
Also, I also don't think the errors I'm seeing are a result of using the Autonomous mode, these seem like much lower level of errors that woudl impact your ability to even do a proper suvrey.

  • Cisco AIR-CAP3602I access point conversion

                       Hello Group,
I have a 3602i access point and have been looking to see if it was possible to load a Mesh AP image on the AP?

    Hello,
Agree with George. You can set the ap to mesh by changing its mode to bridge. you can change the mode from gui:
Wireless -> your ap -> ap mode.

  • CME, WLC 2504, 3602i and 7926

    Hello,
I have a wlc 2504, several indoor 3602i using Cisco 7926. The APs are in flexconnec mode, signal looks good from the 7926 site survey too. Good coverage anywhere from -50 to -65. I can be standing directly under an AP and the 7926 will loose network connectivity and connect again. A site survey was done before AP placements
Most of my system configuration on the WLC are defaults. Any idea why this is happening
    Thanks
