Cisco 3617 to ONS 15454 E100T CAT5 Cabling
In an ethernet connection from a Cisco 7613 router ethernet port through a patch panel to an ONS 15454 E100T interface card, is a crossover cable required and if so, does convention dictate the crossover cable be installed on the router side of the patch panel or on the ONS side?
Yes, it should be a crossover cable.
I don't think there's a specific convention for placement, whichever side is best for you. However, it should be well-labeled (flags, tage, blinking lights, whatever) as a crossover cable to prevent it's replacement with a standard cable during troubleshooting.
Good Luck

ONS 15454 Craft interface to a Cisco 2511 Terminal Server
Does anybody have pinout of wiring ONS 15454 craft interface to a Cisco 2511 terminal server? I tried many combinations but nothing seem to work.
2511 has octal cable with RJ-45 connector. I used an rj-45 coupler to connect a wire wrapped RJ-45 cable to craft interface.
Thanks,Pin Field

Ethernet over OC-3 between a E100T-12 (ONS 15454) and a remote device
What CISCO device will accept an OC-3 (non-ATM) interface and establish an Ethernet connection with a E100T-12 card in a CISCO ONS 15454?
You could map an Ethernet circuit from an ONS 15327 over an OC3 and terminate it on E100T-12 on the 15454. Hope that helps.

Can I run a cat5 cable to a 4 port hub from a cisco router then connect one of the hub's output ports to an airport express to 'extend' my wireless range?
Flow would be
Cable modem---->cisco e2000 wifi router (This is broadcasting wifi but not strong enough)---->4 port hub ---->airport express (to extend the wifi in another part of house)
thanks!Yes, you can do this as you stated. In essence you will want to configure both routers for roaming network. Please check out the following Apple Support article that describes this type of network. Although this article uses two or more AirPorts, it can be done with just about any manufacturer's router.

I am doing a school research project in which I am setting up an OC-192 ring for a company (contract work through AT&T). I have chosen to use the Cisco ONS 15454 SONET MSPP as my platform. The company currently has locations in Chicago and Philadelphia and connects them through an OC-12C ATM connection and they are looking to add 2 gigabit ethernet connections.
My question is what cards and parts will I need for the Cisco ONS 15454 SONET MSPP, and how much will everything cost? I have been searching the internet for components and prices and I have found it extremely difficult to find any information. Any help or tips anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.Nick,
You can find the HW specifications for various ethernet cards for the 15454 at the following location.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/optical/15000r9_1/15454/sdh/reference/guide/454e91_ethernetcards.htmlhttp://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/optical/15000r9_1/15454/sdh/reference/guide/454e91_refer.html
To make sense of it all, you need to contact a Cisco sales/account represetative to help you analyze your needs, design your network and put together a price list for the appropriate cards.
If you are interested, I can get someone from the sales/account team to contact you. Please contact me directly with your contact information and geographic location so I can find the appropriate sales/account to help you. Please do not post your personal information directly to the forum.

ONS 15454 Back Plane DS1 Cable Question...
Do the DS1 connectors on the back plane of the ONS 15454 mate with screw down AMP Champ connectors or with Bail Lock AMP Champ connectors? The documentation seems to be ambiguous. The part number listed for the connector is a Bail Lock type connector, but the drawings and the last paragraph in section 1.11.2 of the Hardware Installation document suggest it is a Screw Down connector.

Hi,
i have 3 sites connecting together with SDH 15454 site A-B with STM-1 and from site B-C STM-16,i want to Aggregated hand-off E1's from Site A-C so site B will be trasparet site for this link.
to be source of link on site A and Drop on site C.
any help to achive this.
there is already cricte between site B-C.You will need to verify that the cross-connect card in the ONS 15454 (sites B & C) have VC-12 grooming capabilities (XC-VXL and CX-VXC will support VC-12 grooming).
The ONS is designed to groom lower rate signals to higher rate speed lines. Thus, you should be able to aggregate the E1s from the ISPs STM1 with the E1s from Site B and drop them at Site C.
You will need to add an STM1 card(s) to Site B. Your ISP will need to provide the mapping structure of the STM1, so you can understand where the VC-12s, which contain the E1s, are located in the payload. You will then create circuits to map each E1 (the incoming VC-12s within VC3/VC4) from you ISPs STM1 at Site B, to the appropriate VC-12 on the outgoing STM16 line heading toward Site C. At Site C, you will need to map the VC-12s on the STM16 line to the appropriate port on an E1 line card.
I hope this helps. Otherwise, you will need to have someone locally assist you in the explanation.

Upgrade ONS 15454 M12 TCC2P from 9.4.03 to 10.0.11
Hello,
quick question.
I have in my lab one M12 subrack with only-one TCC2P card and I try to prepare software upgrade in customer network.
I read all procedures at: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/optical/15000r/upgrade/guide/b-454a10-0-1-upgrade.html
My troubles started at point where I can select node where the software must be downloaded. The window is empty.
Target version is "ons15454.DWDM.Lite.K9.R10011.pkg".
Any idea?
Thanks
kvapaHi Emyrsonn,
I hope this ONS 15454 upgrade tool can help you answering all your questions
http://www.cisco.com/web/techdoc/optical/15000r/upgrade/guide/ons-upgrade.html
It seems like you should be able to directly upgrade from 9.1.x to 9.2.2.
Please let me know if you have any comments on that.
Hope it helps! -
ONS 15454 problem turning up OC12
Board.
I am trying to turn up an OC12 (non-concatenated) that is muxed from a OC48. The OC48 terminates on an ONS 15454 on both sides. From there we run SM fiber to Cisco 12000 series onto an SM OC12/SMT4 Line card on both sides too.
My settings for the ONS are as follows:
Type=STS
Size 12C
Dir = 2way
We see on one Cisco UP/DOWN, and on other Cisco Down/Down
Does any on this forum have any tips at all?Which OC12 LC do you have on the 12000?

Hello All,
I wanted to know if there is a document that will show how to put an ONS 15454 chassis together? What each TCC, SMR, WXC card means and used for? What the DS, OSC, LINE, COM, EXP ports used for? Etc.
If someone can point me in the right direction that would be great!
Thanks!Well the product support pages show how to physically install y every componenet of the ONS equipment:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/optical/ps2006/prod_installation_guides_list.html
If you want an overview of the various cards' functions, please see the data sheets here:

ONS 15454 and AC/DC Converter for 220V
I am looking for a AC/DC converter for a ONS15454 for a 220V input.
The ONS 15454 datasheet indicate input current 22A maximum.
The Cisco AC/DC Power Solution datasheet indicate for ONS 15454 a medium solution.
And the same datasheet indicate the small solution is up to 32A for 220V.
Then, can I use the small configuration for ONS at 220V?
Anyone know that? Can you help me with that?
GracielaWhat is the hardware configuration of your 15454 including chassis, fan and by slot?
Using the hardware config, you can calcualte the expected amperage.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/hw/optical/ps2006/products_tech_note09186a0080094ae4.shtml
The general power requirement of 22A provides for any possible configuration. Actual configurations may be less. I have some 454s using as little as 9A in the lab. -
Hi All,
We are trying to install the optical multirate card (MRC 2.5Gig) on ONS 15454 and found the card comming up on standby state instead of active. The version running on the sonet box is 8.5.0 ...The MRC card port 1 is installed with the OC3 SFP's but cable not attached.
Any help would be appreciated .
Regards
Anantha Subramanian NatarajanHi, this is normal. Just go on and enable a SFP, called pluggable port module (PPM). After the first SFP is enabled, the state of the MRC card will change to working.
Cheers

ONS 15454 SDH with 2 ML cards connected to the same RPR
I was wondering if I could connect 2 ML cards installed in the same ONS 15454 to the same RPR ring. Thanks!
Bob,
If you are wanting to tie the ML100 and the ML1000 into the same RPR Ring, then you have do do it with the POS interfaces.
For Example:
ML 100 POS 0 - North Microwave
ML 100 POS 1 - connect RPR to ML 1000 POS 0
ML 1000 POS 1 - South Microwave
North Microwave connects RPR to South Microwave
This creates a single Loop or Ring
It sounds like you are using your ML1000 as a Spur to another location. In order to create an RPR ring, you must have the cards physically connected to each other in a continuous ring.

Does cisco have a tool to automate the database backup process for the ONS 15454?
CTM - Cisco Transport Manager. It's Cisco's enterprise management tool for the optical products. It does a lot more than just backup the dbs - and has an accordingly non-trivial cost.
See the info on the products and services pages at http://cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/opticsw/ps2204/index.html. The product data sheet (http://cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/netmgtsw/ps5730/ps2204/data_sheet_c78-518130.html) is a good start.
Also see info under the support page at http://cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/opticsw/ps2204/tsd_products_support_series_home.html
