CISCO 3945 Router - ARE POWER SUPPLIES LOAD BALANCED?

CISCO 3945 Routers - Are the 3945 Router power supplies load balanced by default?
We are trying to determine if our switch/server rack at our remote location has maxed out it's power load requirements.  I just need to know if the 3945 power supplies load balance by default or if the redundant power supply is ON but not really providing the router with power and is just there incase the other power supply fails - Thank you.

Thank you for your reply. I had read that the "Cisco 3845 and 3845-NOVPN router accommodates two hot-swappable power supplies and a single power supply meets router requirements. The second power supply provides redundancy, load sharing, and increased router availability. Either power supply can be removed without affecting router operation. Any combination of two power supplies is permitted."
Unfortunately, I couldn't find any specific information for the 3900 series routers that stated it also load balanced power.
Follow-up question: Do you know if the 3800 series routers load share by default? I know it is capable of power load sharing based on the above description but do they load share equally by default? If that's the case for the 3800's then hopefully that's the case for the 3900'S series routers. Which means, we have not maxed out our power requirements in our racks.

  • Cisco 3945 router

    Dear Support Community ,
previously we have cmm model on core now we are upgrede the E1 on Cisco 3945 router .
under "voice service voip" on cmm model its configure as  " fax protocol t38 ls-redundancy 0 hs-redundancy 0 fallback cisco"
but on 3945 router its taken as " fax protocol t38 version 0 ls-redundancy 0 hs-redundancy 0 fallback none"  little change from cisco to none  does its work fine  shall i need to configure as  "
    fax protocol t38 version 0 ls-redundancy 0 hs-redundancy 0 fallback pass-through g711alaw .
    and even in the dial
    on CMM model
    dial-peer voice 54 voip
    destination-pattern xxxx
    voice-class h323 1
    session protocol sipv2
    session target ipv4:x.x.x.x
    dtmf-relay rtp-nte
    codec g711ulaw
    fax protocol t38 ls-redundancy 0 hs-redundancy 0 fallback cisco
    no vad
    on router 3945
    fax protocol t38 ls-redundancy 0 hs-redundancy 0 fallback pass-through g711alaw.
so please advice which one we need to configure for the fax services  none or pass-through g711alaw because cmm we use as cisco now its not available .
highly appricated for your fast response.
    Thanks

    or

Just adding root cause: The PVDM3 modules in the ISR G2 hardware no longer support proprietary [legacy] Cisco Fax Relay. They only support fax passthrough or T.38 fax relay.
As Paolo stated, assuming everything is behaving and supports T.38 (more on that in a moment) you should be fine since they will negotiate T.38. If something doesn't cooperate they will not have compatible fallback options and the fax would fail at that point. The most common example of a device that supports ONLY passthrough is the ATA-186. It didn't have the CPU capacity to run relay, cisco or T.38.
Since the older CMM and 3800 hardware also supports g711ulaw fax passthrough I suggest updating the config on the legacy hardware to do that for fallback instead of cisco fax relay.

  • Cisco SA 520W set up for load balancing but traffic not routing properly?

Forgive me cause my networking skills are a bit rusty. So we have an SA520W that sits in-between both of our ISP connections. One connection is 4 bonded T-1s and the other is a shared 50/20. I have configured the SA520W with the optional port set to load balancing. I set the protocol bindings to be HTTP and HTTPS to go over the optional WAN which is the 50/20 yet when I do speedtests I am getting very mixed results. Sometimes it reflects that I am on the 50/20 and other times I just get 5 down and 5 up. and then other times it is a mix between the two, like 5 down 15 up.
It is just weird. I don't understand am I missing some other protocols I need to bind other than HTTP and HTTPS? It isn't just speed tests either I have noticed some weird web page loading issues as well. You can go to a page and it loads really fast and then later on...
This topic first appeared in the Spiceworks Community

    Hi accidentexchange,
Did you fail to log in when accessing the SA 520W thru both HTTP and HTTPS?

Furthermore,  can you give us an overview of your network topology and user info.  If  possible, can you provide us the configuration and dbglogs from your SA  520W so that I can forward to the development team?
To get the dbglog from SA520W, login through web UI and in the browser enter the following URL:

  • How to monitor targets which are controlled by LOAD BALANCING mechanism

    Hi,
I have installed Enterprise Manager 10.1.0.3 and upgraded it to 10.1.0.5. Then i have applied the Application plug-in patch for managing Oracle Applications. In my environment, we have two concurrent managers and four forms servers which are using Load Balancer. Please let me how to manage these concurrent managers and forms servers in that scenario.Would highly appreciate your suggestions regarding the same. Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Vamsi Manyam

This note shows how to configure OEM behind a load balancer.
The question was how to use OEM, not behind a load balancer, to monitor other targets which are behind one or different load balancers.
    For example, to monitor :
Forms on server A and B behind load balancer LB1.
Forms on server C and D behind load balancer LB1.
Forms on server E and F behind load balancer LB2.

  • Cisco switches and virtual ip address(load balancing address) on xenapp portals

Hi I am quite new in configuring cisco switches and stumble across an issue after installing xenapp7.6 with load balanced portal to the ddc`s
It seems i only can ping or get access to portal if using real ip address behind cisco switch from other subnets in my network.
I can ping ddc01 and ddc02 and connect to the portal with http without problem. However when i triy to access the load balancing address of the ddc`s
it wont answer to ping or http
In same subnett it is no problem connecting to the load balancing address of the ddc`s, but in loactions on other subnets i only can access real server ip
    eks
dd01   192.168.1.4    ok ping and access behind cisco switch from subnets
ddc02 192.168.1.5   ok to ping  access behind cisco switch from subnets
load balancing for both ddc 192.168.1.6 not able to get answer og access from subnets, only in same subnett
Is there any way to configure switch to access the load balancing address of the ddc`s ?

  • Performance Routing (PfR) with single router, dual ISP and load balancing

It looks like PfR can do this but I have only found information about this feature which will start using ISP2 once ISP1 reaches 75% usage. But this is not load balancing.
Can we accomplish load balancing utilizing a single router with dual ISPs using this PfR feature?
Or do we have to use another feature?
    thank you in advance

I'm rusty using OER/PfR, but I recall it could load balance two links on same router.  The issue, I also recall, if doing BGP, OER/PfR has to detect a load imbalance, and there's a certain difference allowance, and OER/PfR takes some time to decide, so depending on actual traffic, it might not be obvious it's working.  If doing BGP, there's a hidden command (which I don't recall is) that will load balance the two links on the same router; then you use OER/PfR to dynamically refine the balance load.

  • Cisco 3945 Router - FATAL ERROR: ERR_DDR_DQSOFFCAL

We have a 3945E router which had been isolated from the network due to recabling (but not powered down) for a few weeks. When it was reconnected to the network the links did not come up and the router did not respond to console requests (not recognized at all / no output). It was decided to power cycle the router, this caused a single line to appear on the console-   "FATAL ERROR: ERR_DDR_DQSOFFCAL"  there is no further visible attempt to boot and no other response or indication. An additional power cycle yielded the identical result. All port indicator lights on the router are off. I could not find this fault or anything remotely similar on this forum or Google. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike

    Hello Vasilii,
Reseating the DRAM was out thought as well, and it did solve the issue (well that or reseating the PVMD, because we did them all together). However I was hoping someone had seen the error before or could explain it. Thanks, Mike

  • Load balancing on cisco rv042

    Hi friends,
This is regarding I am facing issue with configuring the load balancing in cisco rv042 .I had configured the load balancing between dual wan of leased line and adsl coonection but loadbalancing is not working fine kindly help me on this

If i close one link it takes 20 seconds of downtime and then ping goes without loses.
In the end i decided to go with PBR, since the deadline for our project was surpassed.
I set up acl that matched every other 32 adress block:
        10 permit ip 192.168.100.32 0.0.0.31 any
        20 permit ip 192.168.100.96 0.0.0.31 any
        30 permit ip 192.168.100.160 0.0.0.31 any
        40 permit ip 192.168.100.224 0.0.0.31 any
        50 deny ip any any
Set a route map that sends that traffic trough one of the interfaces (Gi0/1) and let routing do the rest:
    track 1 interface dialer 0 line-protocol
    ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0.0 Dialer0 track 1
    ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0.0 GigabitEthernet0/1 10
Its not exactly what i wanted but its close enough:)
    Thanks for your advices.

  • 2 load balancing process in one router ?

    Dear,
Please I have case and I want your help for this case
Our enterprise company has 7 modems (adsl+sdsl)
we want to reach internet access continuty so we will do load balancing betwen this modems by router support feature of load balance
when I searched about this router I found multi wan router CISC0 RV 016
that support up to 7 modems load balanced together
but in reality I want to load balance between the first 3 modems to act as one modem to some users
and load balance between the other 4 modems to act as one modems for other users
(I mean I want one router act as 2 routers independent of each other each one do load balancing process)
So I want router support minmum 2 loadbalancing process
If CISCO RV 016 support this feature please tell me how?
and if not, please give me examples to another CISCO routers support this feature
    I appreciate your reply
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
you can load-balance per IP prefix  with PBR( not available on RV016 I think) but I'm not sure you can use multiple interfaces for a particular prefix with this method. I'll try to lab it up this evening and let you know.
    Regards.

  • SRST in router Cisco 3945

    Hi,
I am having Cisco 3945 router and is having image "c3900-universalk9-mz.SPA.150-1.M1.bin" , and now want to check if SRST can be enabled on the same or not.
I have checked it with command output "show callmanager fallback" and "show call-manager fallback all", attaching the output of the same. Please confirm id SRST already configured on it or not?
And if not configured how to configure it.

    Hi Chris,
Thank you for your reply. I have one more query on this.
After creating new Device Pool for SRST, we need to move remote Ip phones from their original Device Pool and map them into newly created Device pool. So in the scenario of calls working through WAN link, will those phones work? as we have removed them from their original Device Pool.

  • Information on 3945 router and ASA 5520 FW

    Kindly help me.
I requested for 3945 Router, to be equipped with advanced security IOS. On delivery, it came with only one power source, and no IOS license for the security feature.. All the ones i have seen on cisco site have two power sources. The vendor is claiming that it comes with one power source by default, and that the security feature does not need any license.
    Kindly confirm this to me.
Secondly, the ASA firewall has a slot meant to be occupied by a flash-like PCMCIA card, but it is empty. Asking the vendor, he says the card is embedded in the interior of the chassis. Can this be true?
I need you to help me with these clarifications.

This topic has been beat to death, but I did not see a real answer. Here is configuration:
    1) 2 x ASA 5520, running 8.2
    2) Both ASA are in same outside and inside interface broadcast domains – common Ethernet on interfaces
    3) Both ASA are running single context but are active/standby failovers of each other. There are no more ASA’s in the equation. Just these 2. NOTE: this is not a Active/Active failover configuration. This is simply a 1-context active/standby configuration.
    4) I want to share VPN load among two devices and retain active/standby failover functionality. Can I use VPN load balancing feature?
This sounds trivial, but I cannot find a clear answer (without testing this); and many people are confusing the issue. Here are some examples of confusion. These do not apply to my scenario.
Active/Active failover is understood to mean only two ASA running multi-contexts. Context 1 is active on ASA1 Context 2 is active on ASA2. They are sharing failover information. Active/Active does not mean two independently configured ASA devices, which do not share failover communication, but do VPN load balancing. It is clear that this latter scenario will work and that both ASA are active, but they are not in the Active/Active configuration definition. Some people are calling VPN load balancing on two unique ASA’s “active/active”, but it is not
The other confusing thing I have seen is that VPN config guide for VPN load balancing mentions configuring separate IP address pools on the VPN devices, so that clients on ASA1 do not have IP address overlap with clients on ASA2. When you configure ip address pool on active ASA1, this gets replicated to standby ASA2. In other words, you cannot have two unique IP address pools on a ASA Active/Standby cluster. I guess I could draw addresses from external DHCP server, and then do some kind of routing. Perhaps this will work?
In any case, any experts out there that can answer question? TIA!

Wow, some good info posted here (both questions and some answers). I'm in a similar situation with a couple of vpn load-balanced pairs... my goal was to get active-standby failover up and running in each pair- then I ran into this thread and saw the first post about the unique IP addr pools (and obviously we can't have unique pools in an active-standby failover rig where the complete config is replicated). So it would seem that these two features are indeed mutually exclusive. Real nice initial post to call this out.
Now I'm wondering if the ASA could actually handle a single addr pool in an active-standby fo rig- *if* the code supported the exchange of addr pool status between the fo members (so they each would know what addrs have been farmed out from this single pool)? Can I get some feedback from folks on this? If this is viable, then I suppose we could submit a feature request to Cisco... not that this would necessarily be supported anytime soon, but it might be worth a try. And I'm also assuming we might need a vip on the inside int as well (not just on the outside), to properly flip the traffic on both sides if the failover occurs (note we're not currently doing this).
Finally, if a member fails in a std load-balanced vpn pair (w/o fo disabled), the remaining member must take over traffic hitting the vip addr (full time)... can someone tell me how this works? And when this pair is working normally (with both members up), do the two systems coordinate who owns the vip at any time to load-balance the traffic? Is this basically how their load-balancing scheme works?
Anyway, pretty cool thread... would really appreciate it if folks could give some feedback on some of the above.
    Thanks much,
    Mike
