Cisco 4500 Chessis Switch with sup 7l-e supports VSS for long distance upto 40 Km

Hello Team,
hope you will find this massage in good health and spirit.
As per my understanding, Cisco 4507R+E with Sup-7L-E will supports VSS for long distance upto 40 Km, i have a scenario that there are two Data Centre of a Company at different graphical location (distance is 2 Km), both have separate network devices but distributed servers connectivity and all servers accessed from both location (some servers are placed in location 1 and some servers are at location 2), both location has separate ISPs link with segregation of internet connectivity (some users using internet from ISP-1 and other are using ISP-2), Core Switches of both location connected to each other via fiber (company fiber not ISP), at this moment Core Switches are configured with multi-group HSRP and next upgrade to VSS.
My concern is if Virtual Switch link (VSL) goes down (which will configure on company fiber link) what is the behavior of Switches, both are in Master mode and working standalone or behavior are different, please confirm and suggest for better.

Hmmmm ... You won't be able to determine anything if you won't provide any addition information.  I mean what do you mean by "went down"?  Did the port go into "error disable"?
If it went into error disable, console in both switches and post the output to the command "sh interface status err".

  • Will I have Issues with Screen if Connected to PC for long periods?

I picked up a new 80g ipod to replace my old 20g gen 2, and I want to use it at work to play music through my computer. I am concerned about the Do Not Disconnect message with the flashing icon being displayed for 10 hours at a time every day. Am I going to get any characters or images burned on the display? I didn't think LCD's were subject to burning, but seems that some folks out there have had some issues.
    Many thanks,

  • 4500 R+E with sup 8 vs. (3850 stack + 5508 WLC)

I got into discussion about upgrade our 3750 stack, 4404 WLC, less than 50 APs (APs spread out over MPLS WAN). I'm planning to get 4510 R+ E with 2 sup 8, but another opinion talked me down to 3850 stack with 5508 WLC. Basically, his argument is 3850 stack can do everything 4500 R+E can do, plus it's not hulky as 4500. My argument is I like unify access since sup 8 built in WLC and we don't have to get 5508. I know there're more 4500 R+E and respect his argument. Does anyone has input on these setup giving pricing is not much different between setup.
    Thanks
    Kevin

In my honest opinion, if you are posted this solution here, you are smelling something is off.  I hate to be a bearer of bad news.  It is.
We went through the same exercise 2 years ago.  We wanted to upgrade our legacy 3750/3750G to 3750X and we found out that if we were to get a stack of four (or more ) 3750X, it is cheaper (much, much cheaper) to get a 4510R+E bundle (with Sup7E included) and associated line cards on top.  Just to note, the 3750X and 3850 have the same price.  The Sup7E and Sup8E have the same price.
Don't ask me why your consultant wanted you to get 3850.  I am refraining myself putting two theories in here.

  • Cisco 4500 series switch-Supervisor Engine.

Is it possible to add two different supervisor engine module in a chassis(WS-C4507R+E Chassis)? (WS-X45-SUP7E in slot 3 and WS-X45-SUP6E-
    Redundancy in slot number 4)

    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/12.2/31sga/configuration/guide/RPR.html
Redundancy requires both supervisor engines in the  chassis to be of the same supervisor engine model (same model, same  memory, NFL daughter card and so on), and to use the same Cisco IOS  software image.
    Thanks

  • Cisco 300 series switches with 802.3at standard

I'm a bit confused as to which of the 300 series switches supports the 802.3at standard. According to the website, the SG300-28P supports it. But in the quick start guide for the 300 series, only the MP models (excluding the SF302-08MP and SG300-10MP) including the SG300-52P has it. Can someone give me a difinitive answer to this? Thanks!

    LJ,
P    = PoE capable. On the 300 series, half of the ports can provide 15.4W, or all can provide half that.
    PoE+ is NOT SUPPORTED.
MP = Maximum Power. This means that all ports can provide up to 15.4W. PoE+ is supported on some models only.
PP = PoE Plus. Can provide up to 30W on a single port. Note the maximum PoE budget for each switch. Also,
half of the ports can provide 15.4W, or all can provide half that - any extra power used by PoE+
MPP = Maximum Power and PoE Plus. This means that all ports can provide up to 15.4W - any extra power used by PoE+
    According to the Data Sheet:
"Switches support 802.3at PoE+, 802.3af, and Cisco pre-standard (legacy) PoE. Maximum power of 30.0W to any 10/100 or Gigabit Ethernet port for PoE+ supported devices and 15.4W for PoE supported devices, until the PoE budget for the switch is reached"
The PoE+ models are brand new and are not widey available yet. I did a web search for SG300-28PP and found that at least a few online resellers have it in stock.

  • Sun Cluster & 6130/6140 thru switch with cross-connections not supported?

    Hi:
I noticed that the 6140 does not support cross-connecting the 2 controllers to 2 switches for higher availability when using Sun Cluster:
    http://docs.sun.com/source/819-7497-10/chapter3.html
Does anyone know why this restriction is there?
    Thanks!

Since there was no real answer to the question in this forum, I cross posted this issue to the cluster forum.
See http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5261282&tstart=0 for the full thread.
Basically, the restriction against cross-connections is no longer valid and the documentation should be updated to remove the note.
This is all a good thing, because I had my 6140's wired into my sun cluster environment via the 'cross-connections' method diagramed in figure 3-4. :-)

  • What is up with the Help and Support Section for Business Catalyst?

It has been very difficult for my customers and myself to access the help and support section of the site for Business Catalyst issues as we are constantly diverted to non-related Abode issues. The portal for support on Business Catalyst issue needs to be ISOLATED from ADOBE's main support section. It is bad enough that there are so many issues to deal with, but to add all the issues for all the applications is simply impossible to decipher and discover a solution.
Before the Adobe integration on the Cloud services it was much more simpler, wiith a much more efficient and cleaner layout, now every page looks like its generated by a bot that doesn't understand what I am looking for. Even the actual URL of the page is hidden so I can't even book mark it without opening the frame in a new window. My clients will not know how to do that.
    Simplify plesase!

    Teejay,

We got one Bug CSCsv17545 which is not hitting in our case since it is resolved 12.2(54)SG1.
Wanted to know whether it is Software issue or hardware and how to isolate the same.

    Hi Rizwan,
Here, as per observation, Software is unable to recover these error messages (As the HW Index and ErrAddress in these errors are common) or SUP Engine is having Hardware problem (Since the Errors are collected on Active SUP Engine only). We have to isolate this issue by below method.
Remove the SUP & Reinsert it again / if you have spare SUP then replace Active SUP Engin
If same errors observed, we need to upgrade the Image & if not then need to replace the SUP Engine.
In our case, issue got resolved after removing and reinserting the SUP Engine.
    CPU was normal too.
Additionally, you can enable Bootup level complete, so that HW issue of Active SUP can be tackled during Bootup only & then you can remove the Active SUP Engine.
    Regards,
    YSR.

  • Using Catalyst 3550 Switch with Linksys Home Router and Cable Internet

I've about pulled what little hair I have out of my head on this one, and need some configuration help.
I have a Cisco Catalyst 3550 switch with five Windows 7 desktops, an Avaya PBX and five Avaya IP phones attached.  All of these devices are on a 192.168.0.0/24 subnet, and are communicating properly.  I will refer to this as network # 1. I also have SEPARATE network, we'll call network # 2, using AT&T ADSL service and a Netgear 4-port/wireless router/ADSL modem combo device, which is functioning properly with a couple of other Windows 7 desktops over its own wired Ethernet network, using DHCP, and also on a 192.168.0.0/24 subnet.  I thought it would be a simple integration, just plugging one of the 3550's ports to one of the DSL router's ports, in order to give the five Windows 7 desktop computers on network # 1 internet access via the DSL modem. Guess I was wrong.  When I connect the two switches together, although I get a good connectivity (green lights on both ports) and am able to ping the DSL router's gateway address (192.168.0.252) from network # 1's computers, the computers on network # 1 cannot access the internet. Also, the working computers on network # 2 lose their internet access as long as the two switches are connected together. I am not a Cisco guru, but there's got to be a way to make this scenario work.  Can someone provide me with a 3550 configuration that will allow me to extend my internet service from network # 2 on the DSL router to my 3550 switch and their computers?  Here's what I am looking for:
INTERNET ---> ADSL MODEM ---> NETGEAR ROUTER ---> CISCO 3550 SWITCH ---> NETWORK DEVICES WITH INTERNET ACCESS

The Netgear router is probably what's doing the natting. Is the 3550 configured for routing or is it straight L2? If you have the 3550 configured as L3, then it's going to be easy to do what you want. Just add a static route on the Netgear to point the subnet that it doesn't know about to the 3550. For example, if the Netgear is addressed at 192.168.1.1 and the Cisco 3550 is addressed at 192.168.1.2, but it also knows about the 192.168.0.0/24 (separate vlan), then you would put a static route on your Netgear for 192.168.0.0/24 to go to 192.168.1.2.
The way that I would do it is to create a separate vlan on the 3550 and assign an address to it. Once you do that, make the port that the other switch connects to an access port of that vlan. (It would need to be on the same subnet as the existing equipment.) All of your devices would use it as a default gateway and then you would do the rest as above. You could also use RIP between the Netgear and Cisco if you can't do static routing.
    HTH,
    John
