Cisco 6921 - Inline Power Capable?

I am trying to determine if Cisco 6921 phones are actually compatible with Inline Power (Cisco pre-standard).
I have seen multiple data sheets from Cisco that say that they are, and then others that say that they only support 802.3af.  They are 6.3w phones, so I'd assume they support pre-standard, but I am not 100% sure without having one in front of me.  Does anybody know?
Thanks!

Wrong forum, should be "IP Telephony". You can move the posts using the control panel on the right".
Anwyay, that may also depend by the specific switch you have. Check:

  • Poe881 Router and Cisco Inline Power (pre-standard PoE)

I have a number of 881 Routers and 79x0 IP Phones. These phones use "Cisco Inline Power", aka "pre-standard PoE". In other words, they are not compatible with standard 802.3af PoE.
It would be possible for me to install a daughtercard and DC adapter in the 881 routers and provide PoE to two of the ethernet ports. My question is whether the 881 (when equipped for PoE) will support Cisco Inline Power, or if it will only support 802.3af.
For reference, the 200 and 300 series Small Business switches support these phones with a software upgrade. See this link: https://supportforums.cisco.com/document/71841/200-and-300-switches-now-supports-cisco-pre-standard-poe-legacy-poe
    Many thanks,

My question is whether the 881 (when equipped for PoE) will support Cisco Inline Power, or if it will only support 802.3af.
    Hi Tom,
I don't have an 880 but I have a large fleet of 890 and all of them have PoE and I know these 890 support 802.3af easily.

  • Inline power for Cisco 4506

    Hello all,

Here’s a kick-out from trying to force the interface inline power:
*Dec  9 07:23:36.519: %ILPOWER-5-ILPOWER_POWER_DENY: Interface Gi3/47: inline power denied. Reason: Insufficient inline power, requested(32258) available(0).
    What am I missing?

Yes.  Makes sense.  You need to upgrade your 1400w Power Supply to something bigger.  Here's the math:
    Total 710 -- -- 590 412
You've got a 4506 chassis and populated six out of seven slots.  With six slot loaded, the line cards pull up to 710w from your Power Supply.   Now if you look at the Data Sheet for the WS-X4648-RJ45V+E line card it states that this particular line card can support up to 48 ports running 15.4w (or 24 ports at 30w PoE).  The product of 30w & 24 ports is 720.  So if you add up 720 and 710 you get a sum of 1430 which is OVER your 1400w Power Supply.  This is the reason why the line card is complaining.
It doesn't matter if you've got a WS-X4648-RJ45V+E line card and you're going to, for example, plug 10 APs.  When the line card is loaded into the chassis, the line card will immediately "chop" or "slice" 720w off the power supply.  This is how it works.

  • Does Cisco inline power work w/ LWAPP?

We have a bunch of old 3524XL's that are providing power for our Autonoumous AP's.
Does anyone know if they'll work after we convert the AP's to LightWeight?
    thanks.

    Kevin,
The Cisco pre-standard power will work to power the AP's, but the WLC's will have a problem with this. They will see that the AP is not being provided the 15.4W that is the 802.3af standard and will not turn on the radios, claiming there is not enough power.
The way to fix this is, in 3.2 go to the command line and issue the command:
config ap power pre-standard enable all.
In 4.0 you can issue the command:
    config ap power pre-standard
OR from the GUI you can go to the details of hte AP, and there are checkboxes for pre-standard and injector.

  • Inline power controller post fail

After a huge lightning, I woke up and find one of my Cisco 2960 switch with all Ethernet ports green but when I connect using console, I found the following message:
    inline power post fail.
What normally caused this and how can I resolve it?

    Get the appliance RMA-ed.

  • Inline power module timeout?

I have a 6513 with WS-X6148-45AF linecards supplying power to Cisco VoIP phones.
yesterday, one of the blades experienced an error that was reflected in the logs as
    ...inline power module timout (25)
All the phones on the blade went down (rebooted)
Anyone know what this error is all about?

    Hi,
This could be due to the following:

  • Inline power support

    Hi,
Does the new ESW switches support "Cisco Inline Power" Some Service Providers are using CP-7940/60 with SIP image as a service and need switches that automatically detects that the device only support Inline Power..
    regards
    /Bjorn

The ESW 500 series of switches does power up the 7960 / 7940 phones (pre standard) via POE.

  • Is there a bug related to inline power of 3550?

    Hi:
We are using the inline-power function of some WS-C3550-24PWR-EMI to power on some aironet 1230 APs. There are less than 5 APs on one 3550 usually.
For unknown reason, those 3550s keep shutting down those FE interfaces connected by APs. We can do 'no shut' under the interface to re-enable the AP, however those interfaces will be shut down again after several days. We only see this problem on 3550 so far. Can anybody fell free to tell me what the reason is and how to fix it?
    Sincerely,
    cafershop1

    Hi:
We are only using b/g. I checked the power level on a 3550 withou this problem, most of APs are using 4.4v.
Those switchs are running for a long time, I think around 2 or 3 years.
On the software side, we just enable inline power by the command of 'power inline auto' on the 3550. The IOS version for APs are 12.3(8)JA2 and switch are 12.1(22)EA8.
On the hardware side, all APs are plug into network jack on the wall and then connect to switches. The distances between APs to switches usually are less than 100 feet.
    Sincerely,
    cafershop1

    Thanks and Regards

    Hi Pragash,
Did you check what is configured under "Voice Mail Profile" setting on the directory number for 6921?
Also, when you try to listen to the message what exactly happens, are you able to listen to it or not?
    As per the following
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/ip_phones/6921_6941/english/user/guide/6921_41.html#wp90757

It seems its a proces as each of the stackmember logs this message every 10seconds.
I have  search-engined this message, but to no avail,
i dont think this is a software crash as i dont have any crashfiles on the system.
What process generates these messages and why, how to troubleshoot this.
    thank you in advance.

What output do you get from:

  • Cisco 6921 phone stuck on start up

Cisco 6921 is plugged on PoE switch, patch cord & routing is tested with another phone. But one 6921 phone is stuck on start up process. All Receiver, mute, speaker, headset buttons lights are on but there is no led display.
    Kindly advise.
    Regards,
    Humza Khan

    Hi Humza,
If other 6921 phone are registering using the same switch port then it seems to be a hardware problem. Moreover you can try to delete this phone from CUCM and try to recreate it using different protocol (using SIP if it was configured as sccp or vice versa) after that you recreate it using the protocol which you want.
I hope you already did the factory reset.
