Cisco 7609-RG gigabit

Hi
is CLNS protocol working on RG ports? or olny works on fiberoptic giga ports?
Regards
Ali

Each VC supports the Multiprotocol (AppleTalk, CLNS, DECnet, IP, IPX, VINES, XNS, and so forth). So every port can work with CLNS.

  • Cisco 7609 - optical gigabit interface

    Hi all,
I have a strange problem with the optical gigabit interface of a Cisco
switch 7609. This is the problem:
I have two 7609 cisco switch (A and B) cross connect with a optical
    fiber.
All port of both switches are configured as followed:
    switchport
    switchport mode acces
    shutdown
    no cdp enable
    no ip address
    end
With the same optical fiber cable i have connect two ports of the switches and I brough up the interface.
I got the following result if i run 'show ip interface brief' on the switches:
    SW A - SW B
port 1 - port 1 --> link down protocol down
port 2 - port 1 --> link up protocol up
port 1 - port 2 --> link up protocol up
port 2 - port 2 --> link up protocol up
Why if i connect port 1 on both switches the link don't brought up?
Have anyone some idea for the possible cause of the problem?
    Thank you
    BR
    \Sergio

  • Cisco 7609 router received higher traffic than upstream provider router is sending

    Hi all,
I have a Cisco 7609 router that connects to our upstream provider router using 3rd party DWDM Fiber backhaul provider.
The upstream provider router is a Juniper router that had capped our port speed to 1.1Gbps, the backhaul provider didn't capped our port speed and the maximum speed is 2Gbps since it's a 2x1Gbps port channel interface.
I have noticed that our 7609 router able to receive traffic that exceeds 1.1Gbps, and the highest traffic able to received is 1.3Gbps and more.
I have crossed checked the MRTG graph provided by our upstream provider as well as our PRTG graph and indeed we are receiving higher bandwidth than our upstream provider is sending.
I'd like to know if anyone know how it is possible to receive traffic that is higher than what the neighbor router is sending?

    Hi at all,
We found a solution for this Problem !!
We always and always got this error:
%PQUICC-1-LOSTCARR: Unit 0, lost carrier. Transceiver problem?
The problem was the cable! The following pin-out is required:
                                            1 ----- 1
                                            2 ----- 2
                                            3 ----- 6
                                            4 ----- 5
                                            5 ----- 4
                                            6 ----- 3
                                            7 ----- 7
                                            8 ----- 8
We used this and the fault has disappeared!!
The only problem that still exists:
After the first connection the router must be rebooted because otherwise no more additional session is established.
    Thanks for all answers.

When i am downloading a file and capturing the traffic with wireshark there is significant difference on Cisco 7609-S graph with that one on Cisco ME3600X. Both have the same internet connection.
Is there any way to fine tune Cisco ME3600X to have the same behavior like Cisco 7609-S?
    Regards
    Antonis.

I have not that graph so I am just guessing that you are noticing the difference between policing and shaping. It seems to me you are applying these techniques on each platform on a different way. Try to shape/police in the same order or only to shape.
    Hope to help

  • Ethernet cfm: question on RDI allarm cisco 7609

    Hi all,
I have ethernet cfm configured on two Cisco 7609s and two UP MEPs configured under xconnect PW MPLS on the same domain, level and service MA so they became CFM peers.
I notice that after removing and re-configuring olny one UP MEP under xconnect PW, the Cisco 7609 send a SYSLOG message indicating a RDI defect alarm and the show ethernet cfm errors showed RDI defect too.
Aftert 18 seconds this alarm is cleared and the show ethernet cfm errors is empty.
I don't undestand this behaviour..why the Cisco send the RDI alarm in this situation?

Have you opened a TAC case for it ?
    Can you share output of:

  • Which Module to teminate STM1 trunk in cisco 7609

    Hi,
WHich interface or controller could we use to terminate STM1 trunk and chanalizing it ti different interfaces.

You can try using the Cisco 7600 series Enhanced Flex WAN module. This will support the STM1 trunk. For more information on this module read the following document. Under Supported Port adapters you will find STM1 specified.

  • Multilink issue on Cisco 7609

    Hi,
We tried to create 2 x Multilinks between OSR's, but due to some issues only 1 Multilink comes up and the other was failing during  negotiatiation. We need to create 2 multilinks between two sites,
Need support that why we are unable to create more than 1 multilink.

It would be easier to identify the issue if you provide details of how it was configured and any error messages that might have been issued.

  • Gigabit Performance on Penryn MBP -- can't go beyond 230 MBit/s

I've been seeing some pretty poor gigabit throughput with my MacBook Pro 15", about 220-230 Mbit/s. Here are the things I've ruled out:
    - swapped cables several times, including Cat 6 cabling fresh from the package
    - Tried several switches: D-Link DGS-2208, Netgear 8 port desktop switch and an enterprise grade Cisco 48 port Gigabit switch
    - Several other hosts (Ubuntu, CentOS, WinXP)
    - Different test tools: netio and a web server with curl piped into /dev/null
    - Made sure I'm not CPU bound. When I run the test tools locally, I get well north of 1,000 MBit/s (with the curl test, I got > 5,000)
I've ruled out just about any environmental parameters, and the throughput is pretty much pinned at 220-230 Mbit/s. Between the several target hosts, I was able to get 800-900 MBit/s.
At this point, am I looking at sucky hardware? Software issue? Driver? I'm running Leopard with all the latest updates...

Yes, you can set the MTU to 9000. But that hasn't been set on any of the other hosts and shouldn't have such a dramatic impact.

I read some informations from cisco website "  The license is purchased per chassis in increments of 8000 subscribers requiring BNG features with 8 MPLS VPNs per license".
But i don't know clearly that can we use the existing 76-ES+ISG-LIC  with the New Line card? or I must buy the both of things

  • Cisco IGESM Configuration

    Guys,
Can the IBM BladeCenter chassis be used to connect the blade servers to different subnets (different physical segments also)?? The specific config that I have is using the Cisco IGESM switches.
    Thanks guys.

    Hello,
not sure if this is what you are asking, but I think you need an external router for that, that is, you can configure the ports IGESM ports for different VLANs, but in order to route between the VLANs, you need a routing device.
Check the ´Cisco Systems Intelligent Gigabit Ethernet Switch Modules Software Configuration Guide´ in the link below, and consult the chapter ´Configuring Interface Characteristics´ (Figure 7-1):

  • CWDM-Cisco....does it synchronise?????

I have a cisco 7609 router at our larger POPs on which terminates a CWDM ring. To this 7609, are connected 7606s at our smaller POPs again through a CWDM ring of ADVA FSP 2000. The CWDM device is from ADVA optical networking known as FSP 2000. These CWDM devices are in Ring fashion and are located in every other smaller POPs on which 7606 routers are connected. I have a WS 6724 card in 7609 router on which CWDM ring terminates at larger POP. Now the problem here is that some of the ports on this card are not getting activated and are DOWN. Whereas the status of ports on 7606 (GE-WAN ports on OSM card) at my smaller POPs is UP. But I'm not able to reach from 7606 at my smaller POP to 7609 at my Larger POP. ADVA says that there's no problem with their device.Could someone please let me know the reason behind this?
To be very precise and clear, all these POPS were running well earlier.
    Thanks,

    Hi
i would recommend u to go thru this testing procedure...
it may help u out to fix ur probs...
    1. Check that the local 2TCM interface is administrative "up" on either locations
    2. Check that the local 2TCM interface speed is set to "1250" on either location
    3. Check that each local receiver detects a valid signal from CISCO - optical readings shall fall in the range between -16 dBm to -3 dBm
    4. If L/R in location A is turned on green, the corresponding L/T on location B becomes active, so L/T turns green - check output power rigth after the L/T and do the same measurement just in front of the CISCO GBIC receiver to include the patch cord.
    5. If L/R in location B is turned on green, the corresponding L/T on location A becomes active, so L/T turns green - check output power rigth after the L/T and do the same measurement just in front of the CISCO GBIC receiver to include the patch cord.
    6. If step 1 to 5 answers is "yes" and measured values fully inline with our specification but the CISCO link still cannot be established, swap to the second port of the 2TCM. Redo steps 1-5 and confirm behaviour on second port of the 2TCM card pair.
    7. If still no communication between the CISCOs, place a loop cable with 20dB attenuation between R/T and R/R of the 2TCM in location A and check if the CISCO can "see" it`s own signal.
    8. Place a loop cable with 20dB attenuation between R/T and R/R of the 2TCM in location B and check if the CISCO can "see" it`s own signal.
