Cisco 7960 IP Phone Dropping Random Digits

We have several 7960's that drop random digits while dialing. You hear th tone but the digits doesn't register on the phone. You end up having to start dialing over again.

Cisco found bug in software. Ver7 is suppose to take care of it.

i have a cisco 7960 ip phone attached to my network aboard a naval ship. it is registered to a cisco call manager located at camp pendleton. i put in all the configurations verifed then with know working phones aboard another ship. all the settings match aside from the network related configs. the phone will go throught the configuration process and will give an error "tftp retry: sep with the mac" i created an access-list allowing all traffic from the call manager into the network. i have tried more then 1 phone with more then 1 cable on more then 1 port. there is a configuration or something i am missing that is causing the tftp retry error. any inside would be helpfull.

Usually, the phone doesn't get an image file if the server is not reachable. Or the CCM does not have the image that the phone is requesting. My first step would be to ensure that the CCM is reachable from the network. I'm sure a few other things would be broken if that were the case. And if you have remote access to the CCM you can confirm the server has the correct image file.
If all else fails thereafter,  a confirmation of the DHCP server is needed. And/or you may need to download the image file from Cisco again for the 7960 phones.

  • Cisco 7960 is not booting with PoE port

    Hi,
I have Cisco 7960 ip phone, i have connected that in a PoE port, the phone doesn't boot, so what i use to do is, i use a power adaptor, then the ip phone bootz after the ip phone is booted completely, i remove the power adaptor, the ip phone functionz normally, this practice i am doing it when ever i switch OFF & switch ON the ip phone. I also tried connecting to the existing working IP phonez which doesn't even require a power adaptor for booting. those phones works perfectly, i tired replacing with this ip phone on that, the problem is same.

Actually the reason is that the 7960 is a pre-standard PoE phone, so called cisco PoE.
As fa as I'm aware, the 3com switch doesn't supports cisco PoE.

  • Basic Cisco 7960 Phone Question

    Hi, folks:
I am new to Cisco VoIP solution. I would like to set up a Cisco 7960 phone. When I provisioned the phone, I noticed that there is a parameter called "Admin VLAN ID".
Since my phone is connected to an access port of a switch, I believe it should not use any VLAN tagging.
So I am wondering whether this vlan tagging is only applied when a PC is subtended to the phone? If the PC belongs to a different VLAN, does it automatically change the connection to the switch to VLAN trunking?
If no PC is subtended to the phone, then, does the phone automatically turn off VLAN tagging?
I saw the phone got IP address from the local DHCP server, however, I cannot ping it. So does Cisco phone rejects ICMP packet by default?
    Thanks a lot!
    Shixiong

The "Cisco" solution to your problem would be to segment your voice and data networks and run QOS on the network to preserve voice quality. A typical Cisco switch port would look like this.
    interface GigabitEthernet0/4
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport voice vlan 10
    srr-queue bandwidth share 10 10 60 20
    srr-queue bandwidth shape 10 0 0 0
    queue-set 2
    mls qos trust device cisco-phone
    mls qos trust cos
    no mdix auto
    auto qos voip cisco-phone
    spanning-tree portfast
This config would put a phone in VLAN 10 and either a directly attached PC or a PC hanging off the phone into VLAN 1. You would be responsible for making sure the proper routing and DHCP are available for both your Voice and Data network.
If you are just playing around and want to get a 7960 to work in the data network, remove all trunking info and voice vlan info and the phone should boot up with the same IP scheme as a PC on the data network (make sure this DHCP scope has correct option 150 settings - or this test will be very un-eventful for you - phone will not get a config.)
ICMP is not disabled by default, but if you have a phone that thinks it is in the voice vlan (called admin vlan on phone) but an address on the data network, it isn't going to work.

Do you mean upgrade the phone load? If yes, then try upgradign to the latest phone load that is 8.0.4 SR2 that can be found in the following link:
    http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/ip-7900ser
    cmterm-7940-7960-sccp.8-0-4.exe
    7940/7960 IP Phone load - Compatible CCM Versions: 3.3, 4.0, 4.1, 4.2
The installation instructions are in the Readme file in the same link:
When using Cisco CallManager Release 5.0 or later
For Cisco CallManager 5.0, you must do all software installations and upgrades by using the Software Upgrades menu options. The system can upload and process only software that Cisco Systems approved. You cannot install or use third-party or Windows-based software applications that you may have been using with a previous version of Cisco CallManager with Cisco CallManager 5.0.
Using your web browser, login to the Cisco IPT Platform Administration web page
Under the Software Upgrades menu, select Install/Upgrade.
Fill in the appropriate values in the Software Location section for the file you downloaded above, and click Next.
In the Available Software drop-down box, select the file you downloaded above, and click Next.
After validating the MD5 has the correct value, click Next.
In the Warning box, verify you have selected the correct firmware, then click Install.
Check that you received a Success message.
When Using Cisco CallManager earlier than Release 5.0
Login to the console of the CallManager Server where you downloaded the installer.
Note the location where you saved the downloaded file.
Double-click the file to start the installation.
In the Welcome window, click Next.
In the License Agreement window, click Yes.
If a Read Only File Detected window pops up, click Yes.
After the installation finishes, click OK.
    Reset all corresponding devices.
Cisco IP Phone Model 7940/7960 Alternate Firmware format
The Cisco IP Phone Model 7940/7960 Firmware version 8.0(4) is also supplied in a zip file, as an alternative in case a Cisco CallManager is not available to run the executable installer program. The name of this file is cmterm-7940-7960-sccp.8-0-4.zip.
After unzipping the firmware files, they should be manually copied to the appropriate directory on the TFTP server.

  • Wireless phones drop connection when multiples phones on same AP

I'm attempting to find a solution as to why wireless phones drop the calls when there are multiple phones associated with an AP. The BW usage of the phones is a small fraction of the available BW. Call quality is OK with multiple phone associations, and a single phone on an AP does not drop a call.
There doesn't appear to be any pattern associated with the dropped calls. Not every phone drops a call, but this happens frequently.
    Thank you.

Are these Cisco APs? If so, can enable QBSS.
For Cisco IOS, enter "dot11 phone". For Airespace is called "AP CAC Limit" in the WLAN config. This will send a Channel Utilization value to the phone for that AP's channel. If 12.3(7)JA or later, this will be CCA based value showing true channel utilization. This is on a 255 scale, where default limit for calls is 105. Can still receive incoming calls though when > 105.
The phone call shouldn't be dropped though even if AP association is lost, unless some device is disconnecting the call due to not receiving any RTP packets (i.e. Cisco CallManager Express). If this is a 7920, go to the 7920 site survey to view the CU value. The last # displayed will be the QBSS / CU value. If this somewhat > 0 (i.e. 30+ or so) without any 802.11 traffic present, then may want to investigate what devices or causing this load on the 802.11 channel. An option could be to move to another channel as well. Ensure non-overlapping channels are used though per 7920 scanning mechanism and to ensure seamless roaming.
If these are 7920s, recommend using 3.01 fw.

  • Factory Reset - 7960 Series Phone

Hello. I've got a frustrating issue here. I just purchased a 7960 IP Phone and would like to perform a factory reset on the unit. I have followed the directions in the following article but my phone doesn't respond as it should.
    http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/788/AVVID/7960_default.html
When I power up the unit and hold down the # key, I never see the message stating that a factory reset initiated or similar. The current load is different from what I use and need to get it to reload.
    Please help! Thanks in advance.
    Brian

When I power my phone on, it boots up normally like the rest of my phones but it has some old POS3 load on it and I am unable to provision it manually. I believe it has a SKINNY load on it currently and I would like to upgrade it to a SIP load. I have all the correct binaries and have done this many times previously by just doing a factory reset and putting the right files in my TFTP directory.
But when I power the phone on while holding #, it lights up headset steady for a fews seconds, then mute steady for a few seconds, then the speaker button, then it goes into normal boot.
I believe at this point, it should flash all three buttons and I can then enter 123456789*0# to reset. But it never gets that far.
BTW, I have verified that the # button does in fact work.
I wish there was I way I could open up the phone and change a jumper to manually force a reset or something. Kind of like what you can do on a motherboard for a BIOS reset.

  • Question about Cisco 7940 ip phones

I always have the same problem with Cisco 7940 ip phones.
I only have direct access to one speed dial with the button near of the screen and I think that it isn't good because to get access to the rest speed dials I must to use short dials and I must to have it written in a paper to remember the number where I have each speed dial.
Is there any way to solve this problem?.
    I use CCM 4.1.
    Thanks, Carlos.

7914 should supports with 7940, 7960 and 7970. But in CCM4.1, I couldnt add phone button under 7940. I guess 7940 no longer suppot 7914.
After CCM 4.0, you have to create phone button template. For example, if you have one 7914 which has 14 buttons, then you have to create phone button template with additional buttons.
Under phone device, you can pick the new phone button template, and then select "Expansion Module Information" 7914 module.
    Thanks

  • Issue defining DN 7965 because using 7965 SD Phone button template on Cisco 7965 VoIP phones

I am having issue with assigning DN7965 to a phone device. Error message indicates that 7965 is already associated and in use. We have associated phone template 7965SD because most our phones are CISCO 7965. Is there a way to overcome this issue ?

    Hello, All!
I have continued testing this in my lab and have come up with the following results.
When setting up a new device, TAPS will generate an error if the DN is already in existence across multiple devices.
If replacing a device, you must use the same model device or else TAPS will generate an error.
Unfortunately, based on the above rules, I was unable to utilize TAPS for bulk upgrade of user devices from 7960 model phones to 7965 model phones. However, I have come up with an alternate solution.
Note: This solution would only need to be used in a scenario where you do not want to assign a MAC address before physically deploying the equipment. The below solution provides the flexibility of creating the phone configurations prior to deploying the equipment without having to have all hardware specifically assigned to a user/DN.
Bulk Update Cisco Phones without MAC Addresses
Bulk Admin > Phone > Export Phones > Specific Details (Pull relevant information, DN(s), Description, Owner User ID, CSS, so on…)
Download the file, change to csv, open in Excel
Clear contents of “Device Name” field. Parse through and update other fields if needed.
Save a copy as CSV, upload to CUCM as Insert Phones > Specific Details
In CUCM, create a Phone Template for import
Bulk Admin > Phone > Insert Phones > Choose File > Choose Phone Template > **Important** Select Create Dummy MAC
    Run Job
Once job is completed, all 7965 devices will be created with a BAT prefix and dummy MAC address, check Device > Phone to confirm
    …When ready to activate
Device > Phone > Search by DN for BAT device
Open device, change MAC address to new 7965 hardware, check “Is Active”
    Click Save.
Plug-in 7965 device to network. When the phone comes online and gets past firmware it will pull newly generated SEP config with user ext.
I hope this helps. I appreciate the communities continued assistance.

  • How do I disable the phone number's digits grouping on my Iphone 3g?

    Hello,
I totally hate this feature where phone number's digits are grouped like (xxx) xxx-yyyy. I'm not used to this and even if it makes sense for americans I don't like it and I want it disabled. How do I do that?

Go to Settings > General > International > Region Format and select something other than United States (to keep the language in English, you can select United Kingdom - the phone number format there is 4085551212, no ()- in there). Romania is not a choice in the locations, yet (probably in a future update).
    Hope this helps...

  • HT4847 I'm new to iPhone and iCloud... I have lots of pics on my iPhone but only some appear on my iPad, they're in Camera Roll on the phone but random ones only have come into Photos on the iPad - can anyone help? Thanks!

I'm new to iPhone and iCloud... I have lots of pics on my iPhone but only some appear on my iPad, they're in Camera Roll on the phone but random ones only have come into Photos on the iPad - can anyone help? Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Photostream when enabled will only add photos from the camera roll that were taken post photostream activation. (Photostream does not currently share video)
Photostream only syncs photos over Wi-Fi, make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi to begin with.
Photostream only syncs when the camera app is closed, ensure it is closed.
Photostream only syncs when the battery is above 20%, try recharging the device
Try disabling photo stream on your device (settings > iCloud), restarting your device and then re-enabling photo stream.

  • 7960 IP Phone Reconfiguring

We have eight district locations with approximately five users in each location with 7960 IP phones. A few weeks ago at two of these locations the phones began reconfiguring without any known cause. To resolve this problem the users must disconnect and reconnect the phones. These phones are connacted via a 1760 router via VPN.

Hi. My phone dropped in some water but now it wont come out of recovery mode.

    No surprise

  • Problems after phones dropped in water.

lately my phones dropped in water for 30 mins long, after i noticed i immediately bring that to service center for repair but after repair my phones not working properly like before.the problem is bluetooth an error comes "Unable to perform Bluetooth operation" then wifi error "System error" i also cant restore the back-up and application settings from my MMC.
what can i do now?is there any way that i can fix my phone specially my MMC for back-up?
    Nokia E52 here.
    NOKIA E52-1
    034.001

Then you will slowly encounter more and more problems with your phone as the electronics corrode. The issue with the memory card is probably due to card reader or mainboard. The service centre will have to check to see which it is and replace as necessary.
Another option would be to try to restore the backup using Ovi Suite. You will need to transfer the backup from the memory card to your pc first and try it from there. This way you bypass the card reader.

  • Using Cisco wireless IP phones in Cisco Call Manager 5.1

    Hello,
Currently we are using Cisco CallManager ver.5.1.2.3000-2, Berbee InformaCast ver.6.1.1 and Cisco Unity 1.1 Build 10. We like to replace few Cisco IP Phone 7961G-GE with Cisco Unified Wireless IP Phone 7920 ver.3.0. Does CCM ver. 5.1.2 supports Wireless phones? If it does, how do I configure it? Also, do I have to purchase any new license or other hardware?
Any suggestion / recommendations greatly appreciate.
    Alex

    Yes, it does:
Cisco Unified IP Phone Series 7900
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/compat/ccmcompmatr.html#wp51474
Config on CUCM itself is no different from any other phones neither other requirements like DLUs.
Of course you should already have APs for connectivity.
