Cisco 7965 Phone Logs
I have a client that need to recover his Cisco 7965 phone logs from the month of June and wanted to understand why he only has 2 weeks worth of phone logs for the month of August.
Thank you,
bcrespo
The phones have a limited amount of memory and rotate the logs, if you don't see them that far in the phone, nothing to do here.

Hello everybody,
I have the following situation:
A WAN VoIP network, with centralized call processing model (central site and few branches)
Cisco IP Phones 7945-G and 7965-G running SCCP
Cisco Unified Communications Manager 8.6(2a)
SCCP firmware Release 9.2(3) for the above mentioned hardware models
The problem that occurs randomly is that either when the firmware was SCCP firmware Release 9.2(1), or it was upgraded to SCCP firmware Release 9.2(3), approximately 5 Cisco IP Phones, the screen goes blank, the phone being still operational (but difficult to operate in such circumstances), and the problem persists until it is disconnected from PoE, and re-connected.
Please if possible, any solution to this problem is much appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
RaduHello again,
In addition to what I already mentioned, I would like to detail a few aspects, in order to be more specific with this behavior:
- From the total number of Cisco IP phones which is less than 1000, this behavior happened randomly, within 1 month and 3 weeks
- Actually, it was a total number of 8 Cisco IP phones whose display went off, 4 being located in Headquarters, and from the other 4, 3 were in the same Branch, and 1 in another Branch
- Also, 7 IP phones are connected in non-Cisco switches with PoE, and 1 IP Phone was power supplied from AC adapter
- initially, all existing IP phones had firmware Release 9.2(1) for 7945G and 7965G, and the mentioned behavior happened with 4 IP phones
- then, for all IP phones, it were upgraded to firmware Release 9.2(3) for 7945G and 7965G, but problem re-appeared with other 4 IP phones
The only solution that solved the issue for each IP phone was to disconnect the power from the IP phones.
I hope that you might help me on how to get solving this problem, and I am looking forward for any useful idea or solution.
Many thanks in advance.
Regards,
Radu -
Issue defining DN 7965 because using 7965 SD Phone button template on Cisco 7965 VoIP phones
I am having issue with assigning DN7965 to a phone device. Error message indicates that 7965 is already associated and in use. We have associated phone template 7965SD because most our phones are CISCO 7965. Is there a way to overcome this issue ?
Hello, All!
I have continued testing this in my lab and have come up with the following results.
When setting up a new device, TAPS will generate an error if the DN is already in existence across multiple devices.
If replacing a device, you must use the same model device or else TAPS will generate an error.
Unfortunately, based on the above rules, I was unable to utilize TAPS for bulk upgrade of user devices from 7960 model phones to 7965 model phones. However, I have come up with an alternate solution.
Note: This solution would only need to be used in a scenario where you do not want to assign a MAC address before physically deploying the equipment. The below solution provides the flexibility of creating the phone configurations prior to deploying the equipment without having to have all hardware specifically assigned to a user/DN.
Bulk Update Cisco Phones without MAC Addresses
Bulk Admin > Phone > Export Phones > Specific Details (Pull relevant information, DN(s), Description, Owner User ID, CSS, so on…)
Download the file, change to csv, open in Excel
Clear contents of “Device Name” field. Parse through and update other fields if needed.
Save a copy as CSV, upload to CUCM as Insert Phones > Specific Details
In CUCM, create a Phone Template for import
Bulk Admin > Phone > Insert Phones > Choose File > Choose Phone Template > **Important** Select Create Dummy MAC
Run Job
Once job is completed, all 7965 devices will be created with a BAT prefix and dummy MAC address, check Device > Phone to confirm
…When ready to activate
Device > Phone > Search by DN for BAT device
Open device, change MAC address to new 7965 hardware, check “Is Active”
Click Save.
Plug-in 7965 device to network. When the phone comes online and gets past firmware it will pull newly generated SEP config with user ext.
I hope this helps. I appreciate the communities continued assistance. -

</device>Hello,
I'm facing exactly the same problem, that is:
a Cisco SIP Phone 9971 won't register on CME 8.6 running on a 2811
I have read all the postings to this Forum, but I have not been able to solve it.
In my case the commands voice register dn and voice register pool are OK.
So frankly, I have no idea what I could be missing.
I'm pasting the Router's config.
I hope somebody is able to point me in the right direction.
Here is the config. Thank you!

Cisco SIP Phone 9971 won't register on CME 8.6
Hello,
I'm facing a very strange problem:
a Cisco SIP Phone 9971 won't register on CME 8.6 running on a 2811
I have read all the related-postings to this and other Forum, but I have not been able to solve it.
One of the "potential solutions" was to make sure that the Phone had a Line configured.
But I think that the commands voice register dn and voice register pool are properly configured (see config below)
So frankly, I have no idea what I could be missing.
I'm pasting the Router's config.
I hope somebody is able to point me in the right direction.
Here is the config. Thank you!

However, the Phone screens still shows this message: Phone Not Registered.
So frankly I don't understand what's going on!
I really hope somebody can help. Thanks! -
Cisco SIP Phone 9971 will not register on CME 8.6
Hello,
I'm trying to configure a Cisco SIP Phone 9971,
but it won't register on CME 8.6, which is running on a 2811
The Phone shows this error message: Phone Not Registered.
And when I check the the Status Messages in the Phone, I see the following:
VPN Error: vpn is not configured
Actually, it shows all these 4 messages in a constant Loop:
12:01:59a SEP189C5DB6BD09.cnf.xml (TFTP)
12:01:59a No Trust List instaled
12:01:59a Updating Trust list
12:02:00a VPN Error: VPN is not Configured
It seems that this VPN Error is keeping the Phone from registering.
This is repeated for ever and the Phone never registers; at least that's what it appears.
However, when I do a sh voice register pool, I get the following:
C2811#sh voice register pool 1

C2811#VPN is not Configured prints on all phones now with the built-in VPN client if VPN isn't configured. That's normal and is just cosmetic. That should not be causing your registration issues.

Hello, I'm the new admin for our CUCM ver. 8. Currently, I have a customer with a 7965 phone who would like to have the ringing on his secondary keys turned off. He still wants his primary line to ring just not the other 2. This has to be an easy fix but I just can't find any info on it. Thank you for your help
Hi Christopher,
Go to Device>Phone>Find and find the desired phone. Once you bring it
up click on the actual 2nd and 3rd DN's listed on the top left of the page.
The Ring settings are down towards the bottom of each DN config page;

Cisco 877 router - Cisco IP phone won't register with SIP provider
Hi all,
I'm having a problem with a Cisco SPA504G phone not registering with the SIP carrier over the Internet. We've recently rolled out a Cisco 877 router onto a new NBN business connection and can't get the pre-configured IP phone to register.
When we tested the phone with the NBN-provided Netgear router, it worked fine, as it did with the previous Cisco 1841 router we were using on a different link.
The way it's setup is using VLANs to define the internal subnets, which are then assigned to the physical interfaces (since the 887 doesn't allow IP assignments to the interfaces directly).
VLAN 100 is the internal network and has a SBS2011 server – assigned to F0 – IP range is 192.168.1.0
VLAN 200 is the guest network and has Internet access only – assigned to F1 – IP range is 10.1.1.0
VLAN 500 is the WAN network and connects to the NBN upstream box – assigned to F3 – external IP address assigned by DHCP
I've been playing around with access lists, nat rules, basically everything in my limited Cisco knowledge to try and figure this out, but to no avail. I have even configured what I believe is unrestricted access to IP, UDP and TCP outbound and inbound to all VLANs and still can't get it to register.
Tried isolating the issue by creating a new VLAN and assigning it to the spare interface and basically allowing everything in and out, but still no luck.
The problem has to be something on the router – probably some small line of config I haven’t removed or added.
I am going to pull my hair out soon, so would really appreciate some assistance from the Cisco gurus out there.
My client has just purchased about 10 of these handsets from their provider so I need to fix this ASAP. The guy who provided them wasn't very helpful, and basically said I'm on my own once we tested using the NBN-provided Netgear router.
Happy to post my config as well.

Connect Cisco IP Phone 7941G-GE to asterisk
I have a cisco IP PHONE 7941G-GE already with SIP firmware, but when i upload the config file with asterisk extension, etc the phone keeps saying "Registering" and never finish registering.
My SIP Configuration File : http://pastebin.com/SB6XPiXD
There are any log that i cant use to see if asterisk is blocking the phone or something like that ?
Can anyone help me out ?
Regards ;)Note - you started the thread in SPA IP Phones / XML Phone Applications
But 7941G is not member of SPA product line and your's question has nothing to do with XML Application at all. So you are off-topic here. Please consider drop of this thread here (red button on top of page) and create it in more appropriate forum (you should add information mentioned by Leo Laohoo as well as information mentioned by me in next paragraph).
According the question itself - best way to analyze registration problem is packet capture. You need to catch SIP REGISTER packets sent from your phone to Asterisk and responses sent in opposite direction. Use a packet catcher (tcpdump, wireshark or so) or display them on Asterisk's console (sip set debug peer ...) -
An unknown error occurred on your Cisco IP Phone
Hello All,
I have a new install of UCMBE 7.0 and today I tried to get Phone Designer to work.
When trying to preview even a stock image on the phone (7942)I get the following error "An unknown error occurred on your Cisco IP Phone"
I checked the following on the phone -
1. Enabled Personalization
2. Verified the URL
I can log into the phone just fine but I am not able to get a preview of stock images on the phone or ring-tones.
I read over the logs which only state the error above.
Any help greatly appreciated

Voice gaps in cisco ip phones 7921 when roaming between cisco APs
The following problem is faced when cisco ip phones 7921 are roaming between APs:
When a call is establishedon wireless ip phones, and the phones are roaming between APs, a three seconds gap appears but the call doesn't disconnect.
The following log messages are displayed on both APs:
The first AP:
*Mar 1 23:30:30.493: %DOT11-6-DISASSOC: Interface Dot11Radio0, Deauthenticating Station 001e.4a3f.c5b8 Reason: Sending station has left the BSS
*Mar 1 23:30:30.956: %DOT11-4-MAXRETRIES: Packet to client 001e.4a3f.c5b8 reached max retries, removing the client
*Mar 1 23:30:30.957: Client 001e.4a3f.c5b8 failed: reached maximum retries
The second AP:
*Mar 1 23:33:40.049: %DOT11-6-ASSOC: Interface Dot11Radio0, Station SEP001E4A3FC5B8 001e.4a3f.c5b8 Associated KEY_MGMT[WPA PSK]
What can be the problem?
ThanksThat above error message is frequently associated with another error message "%DOT11-6- DISASSOC: Interface Dot11Radio0, Deauthenticating Station
Reason: Sending station has left the BSS ". This occurs because of the Interference from the adjacent access point. So change the channel and adjust the excessive power on the access points so that there is no too much overlap on the access points coverage cells. -
Cisco UC500 : Phone lock facility
Dear All,
Can somebody help me on this feature immediately?
My customer wants to lock cisco ip phone. they have ( 7945 & 6921). They aren't intrested to user after hours block pattern feature.(exeption pin) option which is call blocking feature
They themself want to lock their phones with username & password or with pin whenver they want which is available in Panasonic & Avaya..
They are even ready to replace with 7940G or 7960G or 7970 phoes as well..
Does cisco has this facility ? Please suggest me something on this as soon as possible.I used extersion mobilty feature as well. But the problem is when I use extersion mobilty option on the phone 7945 it promts for username & password.
Once I enter the correct username & password the phones displays "logging " after that phone gets restarted then the phone becomes non usable mode where I can't dial.
Then when I go to extension mobilty again it gives me a option "log off" ? If I say yes then the phone restart and comes back to its normal position how it was working before.
My customer wants the phone to request the " username & password " again in the second time when I try to log off..
Will this be possible on Extension mobility ? Please give me ur valuable comments..
Thanks for your support again !!!!!!! -
Blackberry 8310 Curve randomly deletes text/sms messages and phone logs
Why does this keep happening to me?
There are times that my phone goes over a week without it happening and then there are times like today it has happened three times.
I will have maybe 5 ot 6 text messages in my inbox and maybe 2 or 3 emails and I get a phone call and POOF the text messages and phone logs are gone!
I have repeatedly lost important text messages and numbers from my call log.
The tech support excuse for it is that I have too many messages in my inbox which causes it, but 6 sms messages and 3 emails is too much?
I have tried everything (updating the desktop software, updating all of the settings NOT to delete messages until i delete them, hard booting my phone once a day, etc..) and it still does it.
This also used to happen with my Blackberry Pearl.
If I can't get it resolved, I will just switch to the iPhone. I can deal with the randomly dropped calls, but constantly loosing my call logs and text messages is BEYOND frustrating and Blackberry tech support has been no help!.
Solved!
Go to Solution.DCmuseum,
Hi,
You have low free memory left on your device.
Do you have a lot of third party applications on your BB weather, icall, bbalerts etc?
I do not know your experience level, so if you know this I'm sorry but please read and let me
know if this applies.
Most people close the applications by pressing the escape or red key. This does not close the applications.
Each application has a CLOSE option. For instance if you are in the calendar hit the menu key (spotted key) and scroll down to the bottom CLOSE is listed. Go through each application and press close. Go into the browser press menu and options select cache operations clear all categories and hit escape it will say cleaning memory.
Go to options - security - memory cleaning - enable it. The BB will now clean memory when idle for 5 minutes.
you will have an icon on you screen for memory cleaning make sure you press it. Make sure you use the CLOSE button each time you are done with an application.
Read the link below and follow each step that Tanzim outlines,
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/rim/board/message?board.id=8300&message.id=9225#M9225
If you follow these steps and keep up with your memory your phone will operate smoothly.
Please let us know if you need help with any of the steps.
Thanks

ASA license for Cisco IP Phone over VPN
Hi,
Are there special licenses required on the ASA to use Cisco IP Phones (Hard phone) over SSL VPN connection?
ThanksHi,
You can purchase the phone proxy license. This elimiates the need to build a VPN tunnel for voice traffic.
It is not mandatory to purchase this license however.
From the ASA configuration guide:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa83/configuration/guide/unified_comm_phoneproxy.html#wp1144845
"The Cisco Phone Proxy on the adaptive security appliance bridges IP telephony between the corporate IP telephony network and the Internet in a secure manner by forcing data from remote phones on an untrusted network to be encrypted. "
