Cisco ACE - dynamic header rewrite

Can the ACE do dynamic http host and URL rewrites using an action list and variables?
I need to rewrite a URL like this...
http://*.domain.com rewritten to http://www.domain.com/user1/*
For example...
http://mikeyd.domain.com would be rewritten to http://www.domain.com/user1/mikeyd
... and so on for a large number of user names at the beginning of the URL string.
I am trying to find the action-list syntax for header rewrite and having trouble figuring this out. Would a redirection be a better option?

The cleanest way is to use L2 extension.
Otherwise you can use VMWare SRM to change the ip addresses of your VMs, or run an OSPF process and replicate all the subnets and put it in the "shutdown state" (or announcing it with a very high cost, proximity routing will do the rest - ACE module can do this for the VIPs with OSPF route health injection, ACE4710 doesn't support RHI but on the upstream router you can define an IP SLA probe and perform conditionnal redistribution), or use a dummy VRF with all your subnets and when enabling DRP, perform route leaking... use NAT with DNS-based failover etc...
There is no generic answer to your problem.

Assuming "http://www.xpto.com" is the only request you want to rewrite, the syntax of the action would be "header rewrite request Host header-value www.xpto.com replace xpto.com"
If, however, you need to create this action in a more generic way so that any URL is rewritten in the same format, you would need to use a regular expression. In this case, it would be something similar to the following (I didn't test it, so I'm not 100% sure that the regex is correct) "header rewrite request Host header-value www\.(.*)\.com replace %1.com"

Cisco ACE dynamic rerouting (dc to dc failover)

Good day,
We currtenly have two dc's (site A and site B)
We are using netapps as our SAN and we ar booting our server directly from the SAN
SAN A and SAN B are insync and the network between site A and site B is routed.
The challange:
When a server is failover from site A to B it still has an ip adress that is routed to site A.(due to the SAN boot)
We have a cold - hot design in regards to the servers (so no clustering of ESX)
I have been reading about cisoc ACE and i think that it would solve the challange by dynamily updateing OSPF.
Can any one please confirm that cisco ACE will solve this challlange (whitout the need for any other additional hardware)

Cisco ACE loadbalancing matching more than one header in L7 class map

Dear All,
This is regarding Cisco ACE loadbalancing matching more than one header in L7 class map. I have a small setup with ACE 30 module in Cisco6500. I have got three webservers. Presently I have following configuration where I am mathing one url header.
class-map type http loadbalance match-all L7_WEB_HEADER_MATCH
description MATCH THE HOST HEADER OF HTTP REQUEST
2 match http header Host header-value ".*abhisar.com*"
So for above configuration, when traffic is coming for abhisar.com, it is working fine.
Now, I have following headers and DNS entry is pointing to same virtual IP for all http url header same as abhisar.com
abhisarindia.com
indiaabhi.com
So new configuration will be
class-map type http loadbalance match-any L7_WEB_HEADER_MATCH
description MATCH THE HOST HEADER OF HTTP REQUEST

Need help to Configure Cisco ACE 4710 Cluster Deployment

Dear Experts,
I'm newbie for Cisco ACE 4710, and still I'm in learning stage. Meanwhile I got chance at my work place to deploy a Cisco ACE 4710 cluster which should load balance the traffic between two Application Servers based on HTTP and HTTPS traffic. So I was looking for good deployment guide in Cisco SBA knowledge base then finall found this guide.

This guide totally fine with my required deployment model. I have same deployment environment as this guide contains with ACE cluster that connects to two Cisco 3750X (Stack) switches. But I have some confusion places in this guide
This guide follow the "One-armed mode" as a deployment method. But when I go through it further I have noticed that they have configured server VLAN as a 10.4.49.0/24 (all servers reside in it) and Client side VIP also in same VLAN which is 10.4.49.100/24 (even NAT pool also).
My confusion is, as I have learned about Cisco ACE 4710 one-armed mode deployment method, it should has two VLAN segments, one for Client side which client request come and hit the VIP and then second one for Server side. which means besically two VLANs. So please be kind enough to go through above document then tell me where is wrong, what shoud I need to do for the best. Please this is an urgent, so need your help quickly.

Since my client needs to access URL ebiz.xxxx.lk which should be resolved by IP 172.25.45.21 (virtual IP) via http (80) before they deploy the app on the two servers I just ran web service on both servers (Linux) and was trying to access http://172.25.45.21 it was working fine and gave me index.html page. Now after my client has deployed the application then when he tries to access the page http://172.25.45.21 he cannot see his main login page. But still my testing web servers are there on both servers when I type http://172.25.45.21 it will get index.html page, but not my client web login page. What can I do for this ?

Slow connection in one server if accessing through Cisco ACE

When one pc accessing the server 3 application via Cisco ACE, it experienced a slow connection but when direct access without Cisco Ace, it's fast. Hi Earsdale,
All the three servers are using the same configuration, so, I'm afraid it's not possible to give you a simple answer. You will need more troubleshooting.
I would recommend you to start by checking the differences between the servers because one of those differences is certainly causing the failure.
Also, it would be helpful to get traffic captures on the TenGig interface of the ACE to compare the behavior of the connection when going to the different servers, as well as the differences when being load-balanced vs accessing the server directly.
If you need help with this troubleshooting, you can always open a TAC service request

CSS11506 http header rewrite question

I read the ACE doc, and it said that cisco ACE supports the capability to rewrite http headers in both client requests and server responses. Is CSS11506 can do it?
I have a lot of problems that application on the local server redirect https to http. Because the way they do installation which standard way and it can not fix or hardly to fix.
I would like to get a tip to let css11506 rewrite the server's rewrite. is it possible?

Hello Julxu,
If I understand your question correctly, you are looking for the CSS rewrite the URL from http to https when the server sends a redirect to the client. If I'm correct, then you can find out how to accomplish this in the Specifying Secure URL Rewrite sectioin of the CSS configuration guides.

Cisco ACE A2(2.0) - webhost-redirection

We are currently running the version ACE A2(2.0), pretty old one on Cisco ACE Module. We have applied webhost-redirection https://%h%p 302 but it doesn't seem to take effect and always go back to the host header value.
Is it a bug or a missing feature within A2(2.0) build ?

From my understanding of their goals, they need to providing stable and speedy broadband access as well as good user experience by the differentiation service offering. They need to classify IP traffic and prioritize and control of content-based services for a given subscriber while transparently and dynamically redirect and load balance the application level classified of IP traffic to a proxy caching server regardless of protocols such as http, https, ssl, ftp, flv, mms and rstp, sip, p2p....
Attached pls find the RFP and technical specification for Caching and QoS.
I appreciate your expertise to consult me whether I can propose for them the Cisco ACE standalone appliance or ACE engine module for 7600/6500 for loadbalancing, Cisco IronPort WSA for caching and dual Cisco SCE8000 for QoS as an integrated solution. Is this solution feasible/workable and where could I find the same reference or solution design or technical guidance on this?

Cisco ACE backend communication

We are performing SSL overloading in Cisco ACE 4710..
443 from client to load balancer then 80 on the backend.. which works fine, however when I change the backend to 8080 I get to the initial screen but everything after breaks,..
It seems to be something with 443 as if I configure the front end to talk port 81 and backend 8080 all works, as soon as the front end is changed to 443 I get to the first page then everything after breaks

Kindly use the following command:
ssl url rewrite location expression [sslport number1] [clearport number2]
As per in your case:
CLIENT -----> ACE = port 443 = sslport
ACE --------> Server = port 8080=clearport
Suppose you are specifying SSL URL rewrite for the URL www.cisco.com or www.cisco.net using the default SSL port of 443 and a clear port of 8080,
Then enter:
host1/Admin(config-actlist-mod)# ssl url rewrite location www\.cisco\.* sslport 443 clearport 8080
In the above example, the ACE attempts to perform the following tasks:
1. Match all HTTP redirects to http://www.cisco.com:8080 or http://www.cisco.net:8080
2. Rewrite the HTTP redirects as https://www.cisco.com:443 or https://www.cisco.net:443
3. Forward the HTTP redirects to the client
After you enter the ssl url rewrite command, associate the action list with a Layer 3 and Layer 4 policy map.

Cisco ACE - Exempt HTTP URL from SSL Offloading

I have a cisco ACE module A2 (3.6). I am offloading url www.abc.com on cisco ACE. HTTP redirection to https is working & over https I am able to browse website perfectly. real servers are redirecting some pages over http. Due to page redirection from webserver I have to exempt one URL (http://www.abc.com/modules/docs/abc.aspx) from ssl offloading. It is possible or as a work around i have to rewrite complete url www.abc.com as ssl port.

In case you have not gotten assistance with this one, you just need to specify the specific URL and match it on top of the loadbalance policy that is already doing the redirection.

302 Redirect Location Header Rewrite not working with code upgrade

Description:
We have a portal webservice hosted by an ACE4710. It has two services (www/https) on the same IP 10.1.1.1.
One is a redirect service that redirects all requests to tcp/80 on this ip to the other which is a 'standard' https proxy service.
The backend servers are http only. Externally everything needs to be https.
So we have an ssl proxy and Location header http to https rewrite on the https service.
The configuration below operates correctly on v5_1_2.
But with a code upgrade to 5_3_1b, the Location header rewrite does not work.
We've tried several different configurations and even 'ssl url location rewrite ".*". It just looks like the ACE is completely ignoring the configuration to rewrite the Location field.
Reverting to the older code fixes the problem.

I found that the v5_3_1b code seems to need a bit of extra configuration and it now works ok.

Dynamic Header help in PDF Portfolio

Need some help please, to create and load a Dynamic Header when creating a PDF Portfolio in LiveCycle ES2. Have input parameter of a [name] and an [image file] to place in the Header. Process flowing out of Assembler (PDF Generator). Currently other PDFs being inserted within the Portfolio, and Navigation parameter being received ok, and setting up custom navigation. Any help w/ creating Dynamic Header is very much appreciated.

By "Dynamic Header" do you mean the PDF cover page, or the interactive portfolio navigator?
If its the cover page then it should be a fairly easy thing to do. You can create a form (XDP or PDF template) with a field for the name and one for the image. Then you would use something like LC Forms or Form Data Integration to merge the data (image and name) with the template.
The one thing you would have to do is to put the image and data into an XML format before you merge it with the form. That means you will need to convert the image to a base64 encoded format. Fortunately there is a built in function for doing the conversion in a SetValue operation (its under Document Object Functions).
If you are talking about the Navigator (portfolio shell) then it gets a bit more tricky. The navigator is actually a Flex application and not a PDF. You'll have to code a new one using Flash Builder, then import the resulting .nav file into your LiveCycle application. Merging the data with it is not something I've done before, but it should be possible (the LiveCycle Interactive Statement Solution Accelerator does something similar).

Dynamic header in oo alv print_top_of_page based on current line

I would expect this to be a common problem with the solution easily to google/find, but somehow...
dynamic header generation during alv print_top_of_page:
- i print an oo alv grid, sorted by kunnr
- for each new kunnr a new page
-> now I want during print-out to: at each top of page, read the first (or any) line of the current page, i.e. the current kunnr, and select data on basis of that kunnr to be written to the header.
My problem is that sy-tabix is not being filled correctly (always 1).
Strange thing is that in another report with a non-dynamic itab to display, sy-tabix is actuall being filled more or less correctly. (with the minor drawback that on the first page the tabix might not be 1 but more likely to be 2; but that's easy to fix and for the next pages sy-tabix is correct)

In the handle_print_top_of_page method, use :
FIELD-SYMBOLS : <lv_line> TYPE ANY.
ASSIGN ('(SAPLKKBL)G_INDEX') TO <lv_line>.
if <lv_line> = 0. "First time, G_INDEX is equal to zero
<lv_line> = 1.
endif.
So in <lv_line> you will always have the good index of your table.
