Cisco ACS Deployment

I proposed New ACS 5.4 Appliance - CSACS-1121-K9 and upgrading current ACS 4.1 to ACS 5.4-CSACS-5.4-VM-UP-K9
my customer want to do configuration/databse  replication between two ACS.   Is it possible to that ACS in VM can work  with ACS in appliance ?
thanks

  • Cisco ACS questions for new deployment

Hi all, I am designing a new Cisco ACS deployment to handle AAA services for all our network devices. I have read the user guides and I understand the different deployment scenario's. However, what i could not find in the user guide, were answers to the questions below...
Number of AAA clients, using command authorisation, that a single ACS server can handle?
Does a Large Add-On license (for more than 500 nodes) need to be purchased for every ACS server, or does one license cover the whole deployment?
How is AAA load-balancing performed? Does each AAA server need to be defined individually on every Network device? Or is there some intelligence build in to the AAA servers so that they can distribute the load themselves? Or can a load balancer be used like you can with Cisco ISE PSN nodes?
    Thanks
    Mario

Supported number of clients depends on License for example
The base license is required for all deployed software instances and for all appliances. The base license enables you to use all ACS functions except license-controlled features, and it enables standard centralized reporting features.
    The base license:
Is required for all primary and secondary ACS instances.
    Is required for all appliances.
Supports deployments that have a maximum of 500 NADs.
The following are the types of base licenses:
Permanent—Does not have an expiration date. Supports deployments that have a maximum of 500 NADs.
Evaluation—Expires 90 days from the time the license is issued. Supports deployments that have a maximum of 50 NADs.

  • Cisco ACS / Trend Micro Office / Cisco Trust Agent

We currently utilize Cisco ACS Server and Trend Micro OfficeScan and would like to deploy Cisco Trust Agent 2.0 on a few laptops.  Has anyone been involved with such a deployment?  If so, any suggestions, documentation, suggestions?
    Thanks,

CTR uses the admin shares to connect to a windows server.
Depending on how you configured it: It will try a nmap fingerprint scan, use static OS mappings or perform a level 2 scan by using the admin shares.
If you are using it through firewalls, the fingerprinting does not work properly.
You will also notice that since version 2.0.3 there hasn't been any new agents developed for it. Also 2.0.5 started to upgrade all port scans etc whereas before it didn't.
I would look to speaking to your cisco account team about the next version of Cisco IPS instead.

  • Cisco ACS 5.4.0.46.6 - Cannot join to domain

I am not able to join Cisco ACS to domain.  I get the error "wrong domain".  Nslookup resolves the domain correctly.  ACS troubleshoot adcheck shows the below error
ADGC     : Check Global Catalog servers
: There is no GC in site "INGUA"
: It is recommended that a GC exist in each site.
Checked with AD team and they confirm that GC does exist at this site. It is a Windows 2008 R2.  I am able to telnet to the required ports from the ACS console.  Tried applying the latest patch.  Tried re-imaging the ACS server.  Still the issue remains.  Any help appreciated.

    Hi Minakshi,
I perform the update before your post and I test without deregister all server.
    So far, all was good.
I had no issue and the update tooks me very less time without following the full UPGRADE procedure.
The command had also a rollback for the update, so I take the risk.
This is certainly not the case for upgrade but update seems to easier.
    Kind regards.

  • Cisco ACS database tuning

    Hi
I would like to know best ways for tuning Cisco ACS database.  Now the database size has grown up and causing performance problems.  We are running Cisco ACS 4.2 on Windows server 2003 R3. SP2
What is the best possible way to tune Cisco ACS performance.
What is the best possible design consideration in deploying 6 ACS servers and in replicating mode? Can i use one database for all the 6 ACS servers. Is this feasible?
Any docs which talks about all these would be helpful.
    Thanks in advance.
    SK

    Hi there,
About the database size growing issue, I have seen issue similar in the past and could be related to the Service Control option, make sure it's configured Low. This option is located under System Configuration.
Regards the replication issue, in the past I have seen even 7 servers in cascade replicating fine, although depending on different factors like distance, devices in between, amount of data, etc. The replication may flow may get affected. I am not sure which will be your requierements but using one server to replicate the information to the other units is a good option, I prefer this one than cascade replication.

  • Cisco NAC, Cisco ACS, Microsoft NAP, Anti Virus

    Hi,
I'm doing a research on the Cisco NAC (without the appliance) concept and I would like to ask the following:
    1. Securing network access - Needed products are Cisco ACS and Cisco access devices (2960, for example). The feature needed is NAC Layer 2 IEEE 802.1x. Is this correct?
    2. Forcing Windows PC to download OS patches according to company policy. Needed products are Cisco ACS, Cisco access devices, Cisco Trust Agent and Microsoft NAP (Network Access Protection)? Is there a way to do this only with Windows Server (not using NAP)?
    3. Forcing Windows PCs to update Anti Virus software. Needed products are Cisco ACS, Cisco access devices, Cisco Trust Agent and Anti Virus server? Is this correct?
    Please, give me some advice.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mladen

Thanks for the reply, but still I am a bit confiused (would you please try to answer the questions?):
    1. Securing network access - Needed products are Cisco ACS and Cisco access devices (2960, for example). The feature needed is NAC Layer 2 IEEE 802.1x. Is this correct?
    2. To force update of Windows patches, do I need a NAC appliance (I can only install CSACS)?

  • Cisco ACS check for AD

    Hi,
Is there any way to check that the Users were authenticated by AD through cisco ACS 4.2, I have deploy the Cisco ACS 4.2 with WLC 5500, now i have to check whether the user are authenticated by ACS or AD kindly guide me how i check it.
all users were connected and authenticated having domain user.
i am confuse whether ACS authenticate users from internal database or from AD.
Kindly help me..... ill b very thankful to you.....
    M.Bilal Iqbal

Ok if you have a user set up in ACS in a group and it is marked "windows" its getting sent to AD to get authenticated. Did you check your pass logs ? There is a field called database. This should show you if the user is ACS or AD. If its AD it will have the name of your domain (that was set up in ACS).

  • Supported devices/users on Cisco ACS 4.2

    Hi,
Does anyone know how many devices/users does Cisco ACS  4.2 support ?
I need to know this information for a very large deployment.
    Regards,

    Hello,
The following items are general answers to common system-performance questions. The performance of ACS in your network depends on your specific environment and AAA requirements.
•Maximum users supported by the ACS internal database—There is no theoretical limit to the number of users the ACS internal database can support. We have successfully tested ACS with databases in excess of 100,000 users. The practical limit for a single ACS authenticating against all its databases, internal and external, is 300,000 to 500,000 users. This number increases significantly if the authentication load is spread across a number of replicated ACS instances.
•Transactions per second—Authentication and authorization transactions per second depend on many factors, most of which are external to ACS. For example, high network latency in communication with an external user database lowers the number of transactions per second that ACS can achieve.
•Maximum number of AAA clients supported— ACS has been tested to support AAA services for approximately 50,000 AAA client configurations. This limitation is primarily a limitation of the ACS memory.
    System Performance Specification.

  • Cisco ACS 1121 version 5.3 - Logging

    Hi There
I'm new to Cisco ACS 5.X. From what I have read, the Cisco ACS can act as a Logging Server. Does this mean, all the syslog messages from all the other ACS and network devices can be stored by ACS? I'm a bit confused on this part.
Lastly, I understand that Cisco ACS has many or maybe 2 instances? When do we use these instance? What is this instance?
    Regards,
    Ram

In the distributed deployment, you should specify one acs server as the Logcollector. All other servers send logs to the Logcollecter.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/cisco_secure_access_control_system/5.3/user/guide/logging.html
In distributed deployment, each acs server is one instance. So you have one primary instance and multiple secondary instances.

  • VPN client and Cisco ACS

    hi,
I'm trying to setup a VPN solution, connecting to a 800 series router and authenticating off a Cisco ACS tacacs server.
I've basically followed the suggested config at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/tech/tk59/technologies_configuration_example09186a00800a393b.shtml and the setup works fine if I use local authentication, but as soon as I switch to using TACACS the client authentication fails.
Debugging tacacs on the router i can see the requests being sent to the server, and the replies coming back - the login detail are definitely correct so I'm guessing that TACACS isn't authorising me to use VPN or IPSEC or something. But there is nothing in the ACS logs to suggest why I'm not getting through - no failed attempts are shown.
    Any ideas?

here is some debug from the router:

"AUTHEN/REPLY status:5" is a permanent fail according to the TACACS RFC
In the VPN Client log it say "User does not provide any authentication data"
    So to summarise:
-Same ACS server\router\username combination works fine for telnet access.
-VPN works fine with local authentication.
-No login failures showing in the ACS logs.

  • Linksys WAP54G connecting to CISCO ACS via LEAP

I understand that Linksys WAP54G support WPA and 802.1x authentication. Will a cisco compatible client card get connected to the WAP54G via LEAP authentication to a Cisco ACS server ?
    Connection scenario:-
    Cisco compatible client card <-WPA/LEAP-> WAP54G <-WPA/LEAP-> Cisco ACS3.1
Pls advise if such setting is feasible.
    Tks

This is really a question for Linksys support. The Cisco wireless BU has no involvement with the Linksy's product line. They operate as a totally separate wholly own subsidiary of Cisco.
As for LEAP, no, to my knowledge the Linksys AP does not support LEAP, which is not tested or part of the WPA certification program. To my knowledge the ONLY APs that support LEAP are Cisco Aironet APs.
If the Linksys supports WPA-Enterprise, then any client that supports WPA-Enterprise should work using EAP-TLS. The Cisco ACS server supports EAP-TLS.
    One word of caution. Early CCX cards do not necessarily support WPA. The CCX specification and certification were out before WPA was released. You will need to check with the actual vendor of the card to verify WPA compatibility.;
Also there are two types of WPA. WPA-Personal, which supports only the WPA encryption, and the keys are handles by a Pre-shared Key input system (no radius server) and WPA-Enterprise, which is certified using WPA encryption an 802.1x EAP-TLS radius server (in fact using Microsoft and Funk Software servers). make sure that the Linksys supports WPA-enterprise, or it may not support 802.1x.

  • Using Cisco ACS for Solaris login authentication

    Hi all
I am planning to authenticate ssh logins to Solaris 8/9 systems using PAM and radius (while radius is considered the primary solution, tacacs+ could be used, too). The radius/tacacs+ server is provided by a Cisco ACS.
Can anybody out there confirm that the combination "Solaris & PAM & radius/tacacs+ & Cisco ACS" is correctly doing this authentication stuff? Is there anything to specially consider?
    Thanks, David

Hard to comment with any certainty but provided the client implementation of RADIUS is sound AND the authentication protocol is one that ACS supports, eg PAP, CHAP, MSCHAP, LEAP, EAP (PEAP/FAST/TLS/GTC/MSCHAP) then should be fine.
