Cisco Aironet 1210 AP w/ 802.11b module & WPA2
Hi
Currently,I have deployed 1210 AP w/ 802.11b module, are my equipments consider WPA2 compliance ? Or it must be through firmware upgrade for my AP and module, or to re-purchase new AP and/or modules ?
that's correct. You also need to upgrade the software on the AP. I assume that you have a contract to download the next AP software release from http://www.cisco.com

Aironet 1140N in mixed mode not working with 802.11b/g Clients
I have a new Aironet 1140N Access point , the model is number AIR-AP1142N-A-K9, my main problem in that i have Nokia E71 smartphones on the network, but they cannot connect to the Network, the Access Point SSID is not showing on the List of Available Devices if i Scan using the Phone,
All Laptops are runing Win 7 Pro and they connect quite ok, The phones (8 of them) at HotSpots connects without problems, the Spec says they are compatible with 802.11b/g and the Aironet Access point provides 802.11a/g/n.
Since the phone has the 802.11g which is compatible with the Access Point, why cant it Pick it? the Access Point is Operating in Mixed Mode.
BonnieThere are basically two "flavors" of WDS that the AirPorts support: static & dynamic.
o A static WDS allows for a main, relay, and remote base stations in the configuration. This only operates in the 802.11g radio mode. Its advantage is it is well suited when you are trying to cover a considerable linear range ... like a rectangular house where the Internet connection comes in at one of the shorter sides and you want wireless at the other end. The biggest disadvantage of this type of WDS is that for every base station added, you lose half the overall bandwidth.
o A dynamic WDS allows for only a single main and multiple remotes. Think of a wheel with the main at the center and the remotes as spokes of the wheel. The advantage of this type of WDS is it operates in the 802.11n radio mode and doesn't suffer a significant bandwidth loss like the static version.
As a minimum, a dynamic WDS requires two 802.11n AirPorts (or Time Capsules). You can create a static WDS with either all 802.11g AirPorts or a mix of 802.11n & 802.11g AirPorts. Note; however, you cannot create a dynamic WDS with mixed mode base stations. -
Cisco Access Point Configuration to support 802.11b & 802.11g protocol
How do i Configure access point to support both 802.11b & 802.11g clients on a Cisco 1121G series access point(AIR-AP1121G-A-K9)
Regards
HiteshHi Hitesh,
Check out this excerpt from the 1121g AP Installation guide section on enabling the 802.11b and 802.11g radios.
In Cisco IOS Release 12.3(4)JA and later, the access point radios are disabled by default, and there is no default SSID. You must create an SSID and enable the radios before the access point will allow wireless associations from other devices. These changes to the default configuration improve the security of newly installed access points. Refer to the "Configuring Basic Security Settings" section for instructions on configuring the SSID.
In Cisco IOS Release 12.3(2)JA or earlier, the access point radio is enabled by default, and the default SSID is tsunami.
To enable the radio interfaces, follow these instructions:
Step 1 Use your web-browser to access your access point.
Step 2 When the Summary Status page displays, click Network Interfaces > Radio0-802.11B or Radio0-802.11G and the radio status page displays.
Step 3 Click Settings and the radio settings page displays
Step 4 Click Enable in the Enable Radio field.
Step 5 Click Apply.
Here is a link to the actual document:

MSI MS-3871 WLAN 802.11b/g/n 1T1R+BT2.1 EDR Combo Slim Module Error
I installed the Intel MSI MS-3871 WLAN 802.11b/g/n 1T1R+BT2.1 EDR Combo Slim Module on my motherboard running Win 7 Pro x64 and MS Office Pro 2007.
The software/drivers for the module added Bluetooth features to the Office 2007 applications.
Every time I reply to an email for the first time, I get the following pop-up error box:
Custom UI Runtime Error in Send to Bluetooth
Quote
"Error found in Custom UI XML of "Send to Bluetooth":
Line: 1
Column: 143
Error Code 0x8000405
Failed to find Office control by ID
ID: FileSendMenu"
The error box has two buttons: OK & OK to All
I can disable the pop-up error box by unchecking "Show add-in user interface errors" under "In all Microsoft Office Programs:" in Tools/Options/"Other" Tab/"Advanced Options..." button. I can also disable the "Send to Bluetooth" option in all Office applications.
I'd like to know if there is a solution for this issue other than turning off the notification of the add-in user interface error or disabling the feature?
How do I troubleshoot this issue?
I have the latest Intel drivers installed. The drivers for the Bluetooth side of the module are from Motorola and the drivers for the WLAN 802.11bgn side of the module are from Ralink.
Bluetooth Devices:
Bluetooth 2.1+EDR USB Device
Driver Provider: Motorola, Inc., Driver Date: 22-Nov-10, Driver Version: 3.0.0.285
Network adapters:
802.11bgn 1T1R Wireless Adapter
Driver Provider: Ralink, Driver Date: 27-Jul-10, Driver Version: 3.1.4.0
Bluetooth Network Adapter
Driver Provider: Motorola, Inc., Driver Date: 16-Jul-10, Driver Version: 3.0.2.266
Ports (COM & LPT):
Bluetooth Serial Port (COM5)
Driver Provider: Motorola, Inc., Driver Date: 30-Jul-10, Driver Version: 3.0.2.259
The offending driver is very likely the Bluetooth: Motorola* Bluetooth 2.1+EDR USB Device Version 3.0.2.285.
The Intel Download Center indicates it's valid for all OS and the following Intel products: DP67BG, DX58OG, DX58SO2, DX79SI, DX79SR, DX79TO, DX68BC, DX68ZV, DZ77GA-70K, DZ77RE-75K, & DZ87KLT-75K.
This driver also causes issues with Microsoft Office 2007 & 2010 applications when you copy to the clipboard and paste from the clipboard. It will copy text and paste as a black blob.
What are the chances of getting an updated driver from Motorola?

802.1 aaa entries cisco aironet question
Is it possible to have multiple aaa entries for RADIUS servers on a Cisco Aironet?
What im trying to achieve is two SSID's, one on one VLAN and another on another VLAN..
The trouble is that our RADIUS servers are using MSCHAP v2 authentication and they are for two separate servers with different user accounts on two separate VLANs
What I am hoping to do is create two SSID's on seperate VLAN's, with a separate radius entry for both SSIDsyes it is possible. On the ssid manager page you have the option of setting up EAP server and prioritize it according to the SSID.

How to find out how many 802.11b clients are connecting
Hello
We got around 70 Cisco AP1231 here in autonomous function.
They're all equiped with 802.11b/g modules.
I'd like to soon disable 802.11b here (school), but I should somehow find out how many people are still using 802.11b.
Any ideas how I could automatically do this?
I also have a WLSE working here.
Thanks,
PatrickWhether it is IOS software or vx works software you could view the number of clients by clicking on home tab:summary status page.It would listed in the top of the page.If you are using CLI use the command show dot11 associations statistics in the Prev EXec mode. Configuring wireless card Cisco Aironet 350 PCI
I'm not a newbie in linux but now faced with a trouble. I could not manage to set up the card properly. I just installed Arch 0.8 and it's not quite clear to me how to do this with Arch. I've read all available Arch's docs on this topic.
So my situation's the following:
I have the wireless card Cisco Aironet 350 PCI and I've been using it with Slackware for a year. It works quite fine. But now, when I decided to move to Arch - I cannot set it up. My card's using `airo` module and it is loading well. All the present network devices are recognized. I can see this by ifconfig -a.
I have 2 NICs in my system:
1) simple Ethernet card - eth0. Is switched off in rc.conf
2) wireless. There are 2 different devices for it in my system: eth1 and wifi0 (and it's correct). I don't know why is it so and how about this with other wireless cards.
For example I placed here network configs from my Slackware which works well with them and expect your advice on how to do the same with Arch.
/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf:

Who is aware - please describe or give me a link on this, how the two devises eth1 and wifi0 are connected to each other and how to set them up in Arch.
Thnx.Excellent! It works! Thank U very much.
My conclusion - /etc/network-profiles/ is much more suitable way/place to set your wireless network parameters even it's quite steady.
And now I have a couple of extra questions:
1) What should I do with actual network parameters in rc.conf? Currently they looks like:
lo="lo 127.0.0.1"
#eth0="eth0 192.168.0.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255"
INTERFACES=(lo !eth0)
gateway="default gw 192.168.0.1"
ROUTES=(!gateway)
NET_PROFILES=(tier)
and that looks and works OK. What about gateway? Should I comment it here or not?
2)Though everything works fine now, I can see that wifi0 device is not listed by ifconfig now (only by iwconfig), but in my Slackware system it is. Don't have I to mention my wifi0 device in network profile's section:
#WIFI_INTERFACE=wlan0 # use this if you have a special wireless interface
# that is linked to the real $INTERFACE
Thnx!

Configuration of a Point to MultiPoint link with Cisco Aironet 1310 bridges
Hi All,
The previous problem of which I started another conversation here:
http://forum.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/NetProf?page=netprof&forum=Wireless%20-%20Mobility&topic=General&CommCmd=MB%3Fcmd%3Ddisplay_location%26location%3D.1ddba023
somehow dissapeared. It could have been a problem of interferences.
I have another issue with other (multipoint) wireless WAN link, which I hope has a solution.
On the central node, we have an Cisco Aironet 1310 bridge configured as root-bridge. It has a panel of four vertical polarity 17 dBi panel 90? antennas, with more than enough gain (there is a 250 mWatts 802.11 b/g amplifier, before the 4-way splitter) and excellent line of sight to three remote bridges.
The three (03) remote bridges are also Aironet 1310 models, confidured as non-root-bridges.
The problem we have is that it seems that when the three remote links operate concurrently the amount of lost packets is huge. When I shutdown the radio interfaces of two bridges, the remaining bridge makes an excellent link with the central node.
It seems that some hours are more critical than others, also the links operate much worse when there is some (small) network traffic in them.
I have read the 1310 manuals, and I can't find a sample configuration for point to multi-point links.
Does someone knows what radio interface configuration should I need to use to establish better quality communication?
I mean, perhaps the 1 x root - 3 x no root configuration is not recommendable for the multipoint link configuration.
Any hints will be welcome.
Best Regards,
Igor Sotelo.Hi All,
Thank you for the information. I configured the distance on the root bridges, but the links showed instability.
I'm using a bi-directional amplifier. It has two pieces. According to the manuals, one is installed indoors, the other outdoors. I'm not sure if the indoors piece has the transmition module or it's only the injector.
We could establish connection at 7 km (around 4 milles) distance from the central point, using 24 dBi antennas on the other side.
However, we have issues with a near located point that is only 1.2 Km (around 0.8 milles) away and has a 13 dBi integrated patch antenna. The signal strenght value we get there is in the -62 to -68 dBm range, and is noticiably (5-10 dBm) lower than the strenght we get at other points of the link. And I have trouble establishing a high quality link with that point, using OFDM modulation. I tend to think that if I remove the amplifier I'm not going to reach that point at all. The EIRP on the central iste is 34 dBm / 2.5 watts, without amplifier it would be 26 dBm / 0.4 watts.
On the opposite sites the EIRP is 33 dBm / 2 watts using CCK or 28 dBm / 0.63 watts using OFDM.
When one looks at the central site from that point, an Motorola Canopy with passive reflector (EIRP 48 dBm or around 64 watts) can be seen. It doesn't have the same direction, but the opposite site must be large distance and could interfere with my wireless network. Attached is an amplified photo of the view. It's safe to assume that the Canopy operates in the 2.4 GHz frequency range.
Once I connect the point at 1.2 Km, the multipoint link loses its quality, and soon the lost packets get too frequent.
The CCK seems to be much more interfered than OFDM, I guess because of that canopies.
Another thing I'm wondering about is if the Aironet 1310 can continuosly switch CCK-OFDM over the same point - multipoint link, without losing packets.
What other parameters should I tweak? Is there a way to avoid interferences fromt the canopy?
I would like to apply 100 mWatts local power using the radio with OFDM, but it seems that's not possible.
Best Regards,
Igor Sotelo. -
Help Enabling 802.11b Support
Can anyone help? All I want to do is enable 802.11b support on my Cisco 877W. My 802.11g clients can see and attach to it no problems. My 802.11b clients cannot see it at all. I have tried all sorts but nothing has helped. My config looks like this:
interface Dot11Radio0
no ip address
encryption key 1 size 128bit 7 BC48CE99C4E9B683819990D3C1A5 transmit-key
encryption mode wep mandatory
ssid *****
authentication open
speed basic-1.0 basic-2.0 basic-5.5 6.0 9.0 basic-11.0 12.0 18.0 24.0 36.0
48.0 54.0
station-role root
no dot11 extension aironet
bridge-group 1
bridge-group 1 spanning-disabled
What do I need to add to make it visible and available to 802.11b clients?
Many Thanks,
MattI'd start by defaulting the AP back to factory default, no WEP, no authentication.
Check to see if the 802.11b clients can connect.
If all the 802.11b clients are running the same software, check to see that they are up-to-date drivers & client software. If you're using the MS client software (Zero Wireless Config) try a client using the vendor's client software instead.
If the clients are not eve associating, look at the basic parameters: things like preamble length (legacy default is "long" which is a one meg data rate)
If you can get the 802.11b client to connect whith all open parameters, then add WEP. Be advised that some clients need the WEP entered as HEX, not ASCII.
For example ASCII "ABCD" would be "41 42 43 44" in hex ... make sure you're using the same system. IF youre using something like "12345abcde" that can be a valid (but incorrect) hex string when ou really intend for it to be ASCII.
Also note that leading or training spaces (ASCII 20) are valid characters. Make sure you do not have leading or training spaces in your WEP (unless you really want them there, in whch case, make sure they're there)
Make sure the Ethernet format is correct: use the Web GUI to set up. Check the parameters on the "Interfaces" page and do not (at least initially) use the "Best throughput" or "Best Range" settings, leave it at "Default Settings"
If your 802.11b clients are PDAs, bar-code scanners, or other hand-held devices, check that they are at default settings for the standard 802.11b protocols; some use proprietary protocols for better performance or security.
That's about it for me ... let us know if any of that changes (works / doesn't work, but acting differently / doesn't work, looks the same).
Good Luck

AP with 802.11 G Vs clients with 802.11b
hi
i've got more access point 1200 series with he 802.11g but the client are 802.11b . Can the client 802.11b connect at the AP with 802.11 G ? Now i don't resolve this problem anche the client 802.11b connect only with the ap 1200 series with 802.11b
Thanks for all> If you disable the "b" data rates, you've pretty much blocked "b" clients.
A-ha... As i can understand i must disable 1.0, 2.0, 5.5 and 11.0 speed's.
"To set the 2.4-GHz, 802.11g radio to serve only 802.11g client devices, set any Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) data rate (6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48, 54) to Basic."(c) Cisco IOS Software Configuration Guide for Cisco Aironet Access Points 12.3(7)JA
This the same thing as entering `speed throughput ofdm`? Command disables all 802.11B data rates as you recommend.
> They may be able to respond / attempt association (that all happens at either one or two mbps for either "b" or "g" ... long or short preambles), but since they dont have compatible data rates, they can never connect.
I know... But, AFAIK, when 802.11G AP "see" 802.11B client in his coverage area AP "downgrades" to 802.11B to allow this client associacion. Your recommedation prevents this, i'm right? Try to understand me, many years i used damn D-Link (my boss love it) but one day i sad "Cisco or on no any kind wireless :E" and now i have dosens AP-1200 with my many questions... All want now i want - is set "G-only" (in dlink's terms) like function...
Thank you
P.S. Sorry for my english -
Cisco Aironet 1200 wireless network very slow
I have a simple wireless network set up, 2 - Cisco Aironet 1200 AIR-AP1220B-A-K9 wireless access points with 2 dBi Diversity Omni directional Ceiling Mount Antennas. They are the only devices connected to a Multitech Routfinder router, the WAN side the router is connected to a dedicated DSL connection. They are powered by AIR-PWRINJ3 power injectors. The WAP get the IP address from the DHCP in the router.
When connecting to the wireless network it runs very very slow, the signal strength is excellent and the connection speed is 54 mbps. But when opening a web browser it takes for ever to load a simple page like msn.com. If I connect the notebook directly to the router it runs very fast. We have tested with several notebooks and have the same problem. When I view the available wireless networks in range the only two that show up are the two Cisco 1200 WAP.
I have done the following with no improvement:
Change the channels from auto to 6 on one and 11 on the other.
Reset to factory defaults.
Update the firmware to c1200-k9w7-tar.123-7.JA2.tar
Replace the 802.11b radios with 802.11g radios AIR-MP21G-A-K9.
Disable the Aironet extensions.

Best regards,
RandyThanks for the info.
The documentation say not to switch from auto to full duplex or half duplex when using inline power, well I think it says the AP may reboot. I may have tried half duplex before I upgraded the firmware.
While upgrading I disconnected the AP, used a patch cord to connect it to the router and pluged the power directly into it to make sure the wiring to the AP was not the problem and it did the same thing.
However, when trying to upgrade the firmware it took ~ 45 minuets to upload the image and filed a couple of times retrying. I connected the AP to the notebook directly with a crossover cable and it uploaded in about 45 seconds.
That got me to thinking that there may be a problem with the router so I have replaced it with a Linksys.
In the mean time the DSL went down yesterday so I have not been able to test the new setup.

VoIP over Wireless (bridges/802.11b) Connection
Hi,
I have 2 sites with Voice-enabled routers installed. They are connected to PBX in both sites.
These sites are connected to each other via a 2.4Ghz 802.11b wireless connection using Aironet 350 bridges.
The link is currently used to carry voice only (no data traffic transmitted over the link).
Connection is operating at 11Mbps but configured to fallback to lower speed in case it is needed. Statistics show that connection is operating at 11Mbps for the majority of the time.
Same connection had previously been tested with data traffic and no problem was noticed.
The problem is that when more than 5 simultaneous voice calls (Codec is G729) are transmitted over the link, the voice quality gets degraded.
We have also tried to use the same link for Voice and Data at the same time, we have also noticed that at the 6th call, the quality gets degraded (i.e. with and without data being trasmitted on link at the same time as voice, we are getting choppy voice quality starting the 6th call).
ThanxYou can try using a voice codec which consumes less bandwidth or enable cRTP to reduce bandwidth consumption .

Client got not connection to wlan over wlc 2504 on 802.11b/g
Hi everybody,
We are using a wlc 2504 with 7.6.100.0 and AP 1532e.
I have the strange observacion that only clients with 802.11n (2.4GHz) can connect to the WLAN. Clients thats works only with 802.11b/g, they can't connect to the WLAN. Affected are all machines which want to connect with 802.11b/g.
This is a MESH WLAN with 5GHz backhaul and 2.4GHz for the user.

Thanks for any adviceIn some of the big name brands of wireless, there is "no such thing" as 802.11n on a 2.4 Ghz. No such thing because Cisco won't allow you (any more) to do channel bonding of 2.4 Ghz. It doesn't make any sense to bond an already restricted 2.4 Ghz non-overlapping channel (three) and squeeze this number down to two.
Can you check to ensure that the data rates for 802.11b are enabled? Maybe someone disabled data rates from 1 Mbps to 11 Mbps.
