Cisco Aironet CB21AG, LEAP Software & ACS - No DHCP

We got our first CB21AG cards last week, and I've been playing with it to get it to work with the APs and ACS server that we have setup. I've installed the software and configured it exactly as the LEAP software for the older A cards is setup but the APs don't seem to want to assign a DHCP address to the computer. However, if I assign a static/alternative IP to the computer, and reauthentic, the wireless connection works great. Also, the Authentication window doesn't come up immediately after I hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete to login into the machine, as it did with the older software.
Steps I've tried: Removing and reinstalling the Cisco LEAP software, Reauthenticing the machine to the AD Domain, and Starting with a Static IP and then converting to DHCP.
Laptop: Panasonic ToughBook CF-29, WinXP, CB21AG Card.
APs: Aironet 1200s, A & G Radio equipped
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks for the nudge in the right direction. My guess is that this will solve it, but I'll know sometime next week, once we get a chance to flash the APs.

  • Aironet cb21ag vs intel 3945abg

I purchased a Cisco Aironet CB21AG PC-Card because it comes with a decent site survey tool to determine signal strengths, etc. I also thought it was supposed to be a really decent card.
I'm using it in a laptop that has a built in Intel Pro 3945ABG wireless card, and it seems like the Intel Pro 3945ABG card is always showing a stronger signal to the network than the Cisco card.
How reliable is the Signal Stength value that shows up on the wireless icon in the taskbar. For example, the laptop is stationary, not moving, etc. and the signal strength of the Cisco card is showing LOW, yet the signal strength of the Intel card is showing VERY GOOD.
At these readings, the Cisco site survey tool is showing the signal strength at -77dBm and SNR at about 18-20dBm with the link speed set at 24Mpbs. I do not know the exact signal stength readings of the Intel 3945 card because Cisco's tool doesn't report on that card, just on the Cisco card. So I have to base my opinions off the icon in the taskbar that shows signal strength at VERY GOOD.
So I guess I'm looking for input here as to whether the Intel card is possibly more sensitive and can achieve a better connection than the Cisco card, or whether it's more likely that the reported numbers on the Cisco card or just more accurate...
    Any thoughts?
    JR

    Just a quick followup.
    For example.
On my laptop with the built in 3945abg card, and a Cisco Cb21AG PC card installed, when both devices are communicating with the same WLAN, the Cisco card is showing a -77dBm signal strength (+/-1 dbM varies) according to the Cisco Aironet Site Survey Tool while the Intel 3945ABG card is showing a -66dBm signal strength (+/-1dBm varies) according to the Intel ProSet Tools.
Same AP, same laptop, just different wireless devices... reporting a 10-11dBm difference between them.

  • Mac software for Cisco Aironet 340

I have a Cisco Aironet 340 PCMCIA card that I want to use with an old PowerBook. But I can't find the download for the Mac software for this card. This page tells me to go to "http://www.cisco.com/pcgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/aironet-utils-mac." but it just redirects me to the normal software download page. Where can I download the Mac sofrware for this card?

It was never supported on a mac and this is end of life and end of support... your not going to find one especially on Cisco's site.  Maybe search online and someone might have it on a file share.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
I have a wireless network using 2 cisco aironet 1100 series access points.
From time to time I have problems with connecting a device (Laptop,PC,)to the wireless network. There are onther wireless netwotk that operate around and might be using the same channel.Someone else created the wireless network and I do not know how to access it now to check the configurations on change something.
I cannot conncet my iPhone to the network and I beleive that a software update might solve the problem but I do not know how to do it and where to download it from.
    1. How can I update the software and where from?
2.How can I ensure that thare are no interferences and conflicts?
3.How can I ensure that no onther wireless network around is using the same channel?

  • Create DHCP Pool on Cisco Aironet 1131AG

    Hi
How would I create a DCHP pool on a Cisco Aironet so that laptops would get an IP from that range when connected?
I dont want to use DHCP from our servers as these laptops are to be on a seperate network.
Just not sure what commands to use.
    Thanks!

    Hi there,
    There is a nice step by step for setting up the DHCP Service on the  AP in this doc;

  • X120e - Will a USB-connected Cardbus Cisco Aironet card go around whitelist restrictions?

I have a x120e that I'm trying to get with Cisco LEAP security.  The Cisco Aironet  (AIR-CB21AG-A-K9) cardbuss card will connect to LEAP but I'm wondering if connecting this cardbus card to the x120e via a Cardbus to USB adapter will allow me to connect this WiFi card to the x120e.  I have run up against the whitelist restrictions when I tried to replace the half mini PCI card with an Intel WiFi card.  I haven't quite worked up the courage to flash the BIOS with a new adapter name.    DaveM

    Hello,
I have not heard of anyone using that particular solution.  Perhaps you could test it and let us know the results.
Have you looked for an external USB Wi-Fi adapter that supports Cisco LEAP protocol?  I would think that would be easier to use, though, not to mention more convient to carry around, especially with a USB extension cable or right-angle adapter.

  • Cisco Aironet ap1141n-e-k9 help configuration

    Hi all,
i have just got a brand new aironet access point belonging to 1140 series (1141n-e-k9), it has been a while since i worked last time with cisco devices and i really need few help to configure this AP. (also useful link is appreciated)
I've an existing (wired) network with a dhcp server that provides IPs for the following class: 192.168.1.0/24 (default gw 192.168.1.254)
I would like to configure this new AP with ip 192.168.1.253 on gigabit ethernet while radio interface would have ip 192.168.2.1 and act as a dhcp server for following class: 192.168.2.0/24
Maybe it could be configured in another way but it's important for me to have client connected to ap in a subnet (i.e. 192.168.2.0/24) different from existing one (192.168.1.0/24), is it possible?
I read the manual with the title: "Cisco IOS Software Configuration Guide for Cisco Aironet Access Points" but i really can't figure out how to accomplish this simple(i guess) task.
Any help (links, tips or tricks) would be really appreciated (since my brain is about to blow up )
    TIA,
    Antonio

    Hi Scott,
thanks for your answer and for links you provided , however i have a problem with that.
is it possible to find a solution for this problem internally to the AP? (sorry if my question would sound stupid)
atm i can't "put my hands" on the device the ap is connected to (it's a customer's requirement, unfortunately) and i don't know either if the switch would be a cisco device, is there a solution (maybe without vlan) to solve my problem?
since ap has an gigabitethernet interface and a radio one, couldn't i setup an ip belonging to class 192.168.1.0 to ethernet and an ip belonging to class 192.168.2.0 to radio dot11 and setup a bridge between this two interfaces?
thanks for your answer and your time,
    Antonio

  • Multiple Cisco Aironet 1131AG access points and same SSID?

We have multiple Cisco Aironet 1131AG devices, all wired on one Cisco L2 switch(2560)  who is connected to L3 switch (3550). We assigned one VLAN for access point in L3 switch who acts as vtp server (L2 switch is vtp client). All ap's will have static ip address and all will have same SSID and no security and they will be using multiple channels (ex. 1,6,11).  They will operate in 3 floor building for roaming wireless client. We won't using any wireless controller.
So my question is this: How to configure APs-all the same with different ip's, can we use L3 switch to create dhcp server for access points VLAN (pool for clients, and the rest for static ip for ap's)? Can one of the ap's be WDS and in the same time local radius server with users without Cisco Secure ACS or similar controller or I didn't understand this quite well :-). I followed guide http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/12.3_2_JA/configuration/guide/s32roamg.html for WDS where the part abou Cisco ACS is a problem, so I can use same ap as Local Authenticator as in guide  http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/12.3_4_JA/configuration/guide/s34local.html#wp1035723.
    Many thanks...

Well, just so you know, WDS and local RADIUS authentication is only needed if you're using authentication on your wireless connection.  You say you're not planning to use security, so this isn't necessary.  However, I'd highly recommend at least using a simple WPA2-PSK to lock down your connection, otherwise you might end up giving free Internet access at best, and at worst you might be giving access to company PCs and servers.  If you want to further use an 802.1x or WPA authentication method, then yes, you can use an AP as a RADIUS server and WDS to improve authenticated roaming, but this is far more limited than using a Cisco ACS.
As for your other questions, yes, your APs can all be configured the same except for at least three parameters: IP address, channel, and hostname.  Configure your static IP addresses on the AP's BVI1 interface.  Don't place it on the Radio or Ethernet interfaces, because if either of these interfaces goes down you'll lose the ability to configure the AP, so it's best to use the BVI1 interface.
And yes, configuring a DHCP scope for your clients on your L3 switch is a good design, or you could also use your DHCP server on a different subnet by using the ip helper-address command on the L3 interface.  I hope this helps!  Let me know if you need help configuring any of this.
    Merry Christmas!
    Jeff

  • Configuring CISCO AIRONET AP

    Hello;
how to configure the IP Adress of CISCO AIRONET 1600i AP to access It through the Web browser and configure It?
we tried to assign a static IP using CLI so we downloaded Tera Term and tried to connect It using the DB Cable. The following message shows up:
*Mar 1 01:41:43.674: %CAPWAP-3-DHCP_RENEW: Could not discover WLC using DHCP IP. Renewing DHCP IP.
we tried to execute 'Enable' command and It works then we tried to execute 'config t' command but failed (the other commands do not work too):

I connected the Aironet AP to a Router which has 192.168.1.1 as a default IP Adress and thats what shows up on the terminal:

    Hi
By default these AP comes with lightweight image & require a WLC to manage it.(unless you specifically order this AP with autonomous image)
If you want to convert it autonomous (to use without a WLC) then you have to load an autonomous image to it. You should have an image like this (ap1g2-k9w7-tar.153-3.JAB.tar)  to begin with (you may require a valid maintenance contract to download this from cisco web site)
Then you can follow one of the methods to convert it to a autonomous AP
    1. http://mrncciew.com/2012/10/20/lightweight-to-autonomous-conversion/
    2. http://mrncciew.com/2013/12/13/ap-conversion-using-mode-button/

  • Server 2008 R2 RADIUS Server with a Cisco Aironet 1040 Wireless AP

I am trying to get Server 2008 R2 RADIUS Server to work with a Cisco Aironet 1040 Wireless AP. I have installed the RADIUS server by MS standards and performed some searches on Google to configure the Cisco Aironet. I see others using a Wireless LAN Controller, which I do not have. I found this post below:
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/11546056/wlc-2504-radius-2008-r2-server
But I have yet to locate a good step by step document on how to set it up and I have found so many different ways that others have set it up, but none have yet to work. I am having authentication issues that I have know of and I do not see any errors in the Windows Event Viewer and I do not know where the Acess Point stores it logs for any sort of error. Keep in mind this is the first time I am doing this. I do not have a Wireless LAN Controller and all my network / domain services are on individually built servers and not on one single server as I have seen with most of the documentation they all say the same thing by putting the Certificate Services, Domain Services (AD / ADS, etc), and NPS. I do not want that configuration and my setup should not be any different, but something is not right. I know from reading that this is not rocket science, but from someone who has never done it before this is difficult as I keep reading on and so many people do it different ways including what I have been reading according to what Cisco says to configure in the environment. Does anyone know where I can find good step by step documentation along with where I can look for logs on either device? I find that all the documentation I see on Cisco's website and from searching that it is old and outdated and not been updated in a long time so it is hard to determine what works and what does not work. I am stumped here and have been doing this for several weeks now with no luck. Thank you in advance.

I did configure the Server 2008 R2 RADIUS Server using this video below:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-0MM_tK-Tk
I also referenced Technet to make sure it was configured correctly as well. I am still not sure if I am 100% setup correctly on the Windows Server side, but I for sure want to make sure I have the AP side setup correctly. Do you know of a better article for the Windows Server 2008 R2 setup? Does it matter that I do not have all the services installed on the same server? Instead I have them installed on multiple servers.
I have image number c1140-k9w7-tar.124.25d.JA1 on the AP. The part that confused me in that article, which I have seen before was the part about "Setting up access point must be configured in the authentication server as an AAA client." What is the AAA Client? I also am not aware of having Cisco Secure ACS anywhere built into the AP as that part through me off completely. Do I need to skip these steps? Thank you for help on this.

  • Cisco Aironet FW 15.2 Does not work with Non-Cisco Media Bridges

I have a Cisco Aironet 1142i that was just updated from 12.4(23c)JY to 15.2(4)JA1 (don’t think model matters as the issue seem to be the firmware) and now I cannot get my media bridges (3 different ones) to either connect to the 1142 AP or obtain and pass the DHCP addresses to other device connected to the built in switch. If I reload the 1142 AP firmware to 12.4, than this works fine. I have not seen anything in the release notes that changed how this works or if there is I could not find it.
Does anyone know why this changed and if there is any settings that I need to enabled / disable?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated

More info to add to this.
AIR-AP1142N-A-K9 Hardware Version of v06 works with firmware 15.2.
AIR-AP1142N-A-K9 Hardware Version v05 does not work with firmware 15.2, but will when downgraded to firmware 12.4.
I'm also having this issue with Cisco Aironet 3602 Fw 15.2(2)JB and 3502 Fw 15.2(2)JB$ that's on a Cisco 2500 WLAN Controller Sw Ver. 7.4.100.0.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated
