Cisco ASA 8.2. Destination NAT (network - network)

Hi Guys,
Could you tell me if I can do destination NAT (class C network => class C network) on Cisco ASA running 8.2? (or another version).
For example, will destination NAT like this work:
static (inside,outside) 8.2.2.0 10.10.8.0 netmask 255.255.255.0
I need that when a packet from Internet go to 8.2.2.X it's destination IP address will change to 10.10.8.X.
So, if a packet goes to 8.2.2.145 , the dest IP field of the packet will be changed to 10.10.8.145.
If a packet goes to 8.2.2.1, the dest IP field of the packet will be changed to 10.10.8.1.
Etc.

    I am facing problem in implemnting NAT on cisco 8.4
    the senerio is
    Inside interface network 10.10.10.0/24
    and 10.118.0.0/16 is also routed towards inside network
    Other network 192.168.10.0/24 is routed via outside interface.
    My requirement is to NAT the 192.168.10.2(real IP) to 10.10.10.2(mapped ip) so that when users from inside network(10.118.0.0/16)  will come they will access the 10.10.10.2 instead of the real Ip(192.168.10.2)
    So I used
    nat (inside,Extranet) source static obj-10.118.0.0 obj-10.118.0.0 destination static obj-10.10.10.2 obj-192.168.10.2
    but the connection is not working but with show nat I am getting hits on the NAT statement.

    Hi,
    You current NAT configuration
    nat (inside,Extranet) source static obj-10.118.0.0 obj-10.118.0.0 destination static obj-10.10.10.2 obj-192.168.10.2
    Basicly does so that when the network 10.118.0.0/16 tries to access the host 10.10.10.2/32 the source network 10.118.0.0/16 wont be translated but the host 10.10.10.2/32 will be untranslated to 192.168.10.2/32
    So when someone on your local network tries to connect to 10.10.10.2/32 the router connected to the ASA will naturally use ARP to resolve the IP/MAC pair. I would check on that router if the ARP table shows the 10.10.10.2. If it doesnt then naturally the connection will fail.
    I am not sure if you had a typo there  (or I just understood you wrong) where you said that the router should know the real IP of 192.168.10.2 because with this configuration it specifically DOESNT know that IP address as the ASA seems to be NATing it to 10.10.10.2/32 which I guess would be part of the connected network between ASA and the router.

    Hi Everyone,
        Running 8.4 on Cisco ASA. When a user is connected via VPN a subset of internet traffic is required to go outside via our office internet connection. I have that working fine but it is using the outside interface IP instead of a particular IP I want to use. Below is my NAT statement but I am not sure how to amend so it uses the address I want. I assume I need to replace interface with something that specifies the NAT I want to use?
    Outside interface is x.x.x.99 and is what sites see when VPN traffic is routed out to internet.
    I want the traffic to show as x.x.x.100

  • Cisco ASA 5510 Natting 2 internal ip to 1 public ip

    Hi Guys,
    I have a doubt on how do nat 2 internal ip addresses to 1 public ip for FTP uses.
    As I know Cisco ASA cannot use to nat 2 internal ips to 1 public ip as the ASA cannot read the host header. It there anyway to control it by using acl or network object group?
    My current configuration for nat 1 internal ip to 1 public ip:

    Yes it is possible . See if this helps.  I'm not in front of my ASA right now, but I think this is the old and new way.  If you are actually using the interface address, you might need to use the "interface" keyword

  • Cisco ASA 5505 Routing between internal networks

    Hi,
    I am new to Cisco ASA and have been configuring my new firewall but one thing have been bothering. I cannot get internal networks and routing between them to work as I would like to. Goal is to set four networks and control access with ACL:s between those.
    1. Outside
    2. DMZ
    3. ServerNet1
    4. Inside
    ASA version is 9.1 and i have been reading on two different ways on handling IP routing with this. NAT Exempt and not configuring NAT at all and letting normal IP routing to handle internal networks. No matter how I configure, with or without NAT I cannot get access from inside network to DMZ or from ServerNet1 to DMZ. Strange thing is that I can access services from DMZ to Inside and ServerNet1 if access list allows it. For instance DNS server is on Inside network and DMZ works great using it.

    Yep, Finnish would be good also =)
    In front of ASA is DSL modem, on the trunk ports is Hyper-V host that uses the trunk ports so that every VM has their VLAN ID defined in the VM level. Everything is working good on that end. Also there is WLAN Access Pois on one of the ASA ports, on the WLAN AP there is the management portal address on DMZ that i have been testing agains (192.168.3.4)
    If i configure Dynamic PAT from inside to the DMZ then the traffic starts to work from inside to all hosts on DMZ but thats not the right way to do it so no shortcuts =)

  • Cisco ASA 5505 VPN Routing/Networking Question

    I have a very basic question about Cisco ASA 5505 IPsec Site to Site VPNs.  I want to install a Cisco ASA 5505 at a Data Center, in a LAN subnet that utilizes publicly routable IP addresses.  I would like to install a second Cisco ASA 5505 in a remote branch office as its peer. 
    Regardless of whether I use publicly routable IPs at the branch office in the "inside" network or non-routable IPs, how would the devices and servers at the Data Center know to route IP packets destined for the branch office back through the Cisco ASA instead of through the default gateway at the Data Center?  I can see accomplishing this if every single device at the Data Center is configured with routing table entries, but that isn't feasible.  It also isn't feasible to use the Cisco ASA 5505 as the default gateway for all of the devices as the Data Center, allowing it to decide where the traffic should go.
    What am I missing?  Is the solution to try to map branch office IPs to IP addresses within the Data Center's LAN subnet so that all of the traffic is on the same subnet?

    You can do it in several different ways.
    One way is to tell the server that if it has traffic to network x then it needs to go to the ASA all other traffic is to head for the default gateway.
    In windows this is done via the route command
    do not forget to make it "persistent" otherwise the route will disapear when your reboot the server.

    It is also the route command
    Or you can tell your "default gateway" to route that network to the ASA

  • Cisco ASA 5505 - 2 internal Networks

    Hi new to ASA's,
    Been trying to get the following setup working for ages but can't see what I am missing:
    (Got image from another post but exactly what I want but cannot get working)
    I can get ping between subnets but nothing else and Lan 2 cannot get to internet.
    The reolution for this guy was the following I believe; (from his config he has ASA v8.2)
    same-security-traffic permit intra-interface
    access-list NONAT permit ip 192.168.50.0 255.255.255.0 10.0.50.0255.255.255.0
    access-list NONAT permit ip 10.0.50.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.50.0 255.255.255.0

    I have tried this but I have ASA v8.4 and whilst commands 1 - 3 work command 4 doesn't.
    I get a message about the command being deprecated. I couldn't find a new version I could understand.
    Hope nothing stupid and simple but any help greatly appreciated.
    BTW, I have reset my ASA back to defaults except internet access is working and internet LAN as I made some many changes I feared one my conflict with the other.

    Thanks for the reply.
    The 192 network behind the ASA can access the internet but the 10 network past the 1841 router can't.
    I have setup tcp bypass already as that got me at least remote access to the PC's on the 10 network from the 192 network.
    I had the 1841 router set to use the interface on the 192 subnet as the route to the 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 network but I couldn't get out but have just changed this to go to the inside interface of the ASA and can now ping 8.8.8.8 for example but still not internet access.
    Also I have found that the ASA seems to occasionally when it feels like it block pings from the 10 subnet to devices in the 192 subnet...... annoying for testing! but I can still access shares even though the ping fails.
    e.g. as per above yesterday it stopped when I enabled icmp error inspection but when I switched that off it worked again. Then suddenly again today with no changes it has stopped working again, drives me nuts the inconsistency!
    I couldn't find an attach option for the show tech so it has made this post massive.... apologies for that....

  • Configuring Cisco ASA for site to site VPN ( Issue with setting up local network)

    OK, so our primary firewall is a checkpoint gateway. Behind that we have a cisco ASA for vpn users. I have a project at the moment where we need to connect to another company using site to site VPN through the cisco ASA, as the checkpoint gateway is unable to establish a permanent tunnel with the other companies Cisco ASA.
    What would be the best practise for setting up the local network on my side? Create the network on the ASA and then use a L2 vlan to connect to the Core switch? 
    Setup a L3 interface on the core switch and point it towards the checkpoint gateway which would then point to the ASA?
    When you have to select your local network through the site to site wizard do you have to put the inside network address of the ASA?
    Our network is setup like this: Access layer switch > Core 6500 Switch > Checkpoint-Firewall > Internet
    The ASA is connected to a checkpoint sub interface
    Any help would be beneficial as im new to cisco ASAs

    If we understood more about your environment we might be able to give you better answers. My initial reaction was similar to the suggestion from Michael to use a L2 vlan. But as I think a bit more my attention is drawn to something that you mention in the original post. The ASA is there for VPN users. If the VPN users need to access your internal network then you probably already have something configured on the ASA that allows access to the internal network. Perhaps that same thing might provide access for your site to site VPN?

    1.  in source natting (inside users accessing internet), first the NAT will happen then the routing will happen. I agree with this..
    2. in destination natting (outside users accessing inside server on public ip), what will happen first, NATTING or Routing. I am looking forward to hear an explanation.

    The ASA will always apply NAT based on the order of the NAT table (which is directly derived from the running configuration), which can be viewed with 'show nat detail'. It takes the packet and walks down the table in order of the entries programmed into the table, looking for the first rule that has a matching interface(s) and matching IP subnets/ports that apply to the packet in question; at that point the NAT translation is applied and further processing stops.
    The NAT phase that you show highlighted reflects the stage where the packet's IP headers in an existing connection are re-written by NAT; it is not the exact phase where the egress interface selection is overridden by the translation table.
    That order of operations slide is really quite simplified, and intentionally missing some steps because I just don't have time to go over the nuances of NAT during the general troubleshooting presentation that the picture was pulled from.  On the next slide titled "Egress Interface", I do explain that NAT can override the global routing table for egress interface selection. This order of operations is somewhat "rough", and there are corner cases that can make the order of operations confusing.
    The confusion here probably stems from the doubt about which comes first when selecting egress interfaces, routing or NAT. Hopefully with my explanation below, you'll have the missing pieces needed to fully explain why you see the seemingly inconsistent behavior. Please let me know what is unclear or contradictory about my explanation and I'll try and clear it up. I would also appreciate your suggestions on how to simply and clearly show these steps on a slide, so that I can improve how we deliver this information to our customers. Anyway, on to the explanation...
    The short answer:
    The NAT divert check (which is what overrides the routing table) is checking to see if there is any NAT rule that specifies destination address translation for an inbound packet arriving on an interface. 
         If there is no rule that explicitly specifies how to translate that packet's destination IP address, then the global routing table is consulted to determine the egress interface.
         If there is a rule that explicitly specifies how to translate the packets destination IP address, then the NAT rule "pulls" the packet to the other interface in the translation and the global routing table is effectively bypassed.
    The longer answer:
    For the moment, ignore the diagram above. For the first packet in the flow arriving inbound on an ASA's interface (TCP SYN packet for example):
    Step 1: un-translate the packet for the Security check: Check the packet's headers for matching NAT rules in the NAT table. If the rules apply to the packet, virtually un-NAT the packet so we can check it against the access policies of the ASA (ACL check).
         Step 1.A: ACL Check: Check the un-translated packet against the interface ACL, if permitted proceed to step 2
    Step 2: Check NAT-divert table for global routing table override: In this step the ASA checks the packet and determines if either of the following statements are true:
         Step 2 check A: Did the packet arrive inbound on an interface that is specified as the global (aka mapped) interface in a NAT translation (this is most common when a packet arrives inbound on the outside interface and matches a mapped ip address or range, and is forwarded to an inside interface)?
       -or-
         Step 2 check B:  Did the packet arrive inbound on an interface that is specified as the local (real) interface in a NAT translation that also has destination IP translation explicitly specified (this is seen in your first example, the case with your NAT exempt configuration for traffic from LAN to WAN bypassing translation)?
         If either of these checks returns true, then the packet is virtually forwarded to the other interface specified in the matching NAT translation line, bypassing the global routing table egress interface lookup; Then, a subsequent interface-specific route lookup is done to determine the next-hop address to forward the packet to.
    Put another way, Step 2 check B checks to see if the packet matches an entry in the NAT divert-table. If it does, then the global routing table is bypassed, and the packet is virtually forwarded to the other (local) interface specified in the nat translation. You can actually see the nat divert-table contents with the command 'show nat divert-table', but don't bother too much with it as it isn't very consumable and might be mis-leading.
    Now lets refer to the specific example you outlined in your post; you said:

    nat (LAN,ISP-1) after-auto source dynamic any interface

    Now lets say that there is a connection coming from behind LAN interface with the source IP address 10.10.10.10 destined for 8.8.8.8 on destination port TCP/80. The flow chart would seem to indicate (with the above information/configuration in mind) that a NAT would be done before L3 Route Lookup?
    The packet you describe will not match any nat-divert entries, and the egress interface selection will be performed based on the L3 routing table, which you have tested and confirmed. This is because the packet does not match Step 2 checks A or B.
    It doesn't match Step 2 Check A because the packet did not arrive inbound on the mapped (aka global) interfaces ISP-1 or ISP-2 from the NAT config lines. It arrived inbound on the local (aka real) interface LAN.
    It doesn't match Step 2 Check B because these NAT rules don't have destination IP address translation explicitly configured (unlike your LAN to WAN example)...therefore the ASA won't match a divert-table entry for the packet (actually you'll see a rule in the divert table, but it will have ignore=yes, so it is skipped).

  • Internet Connection Became Slow after Introduction of Cisco ASA 5505 to the Network

    I configured a Cisco ASA 5505 (Version Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance Software Version 7.2(3)

    in transparent firewall mode and inserted after Cisco 1700 router. However, the internet connection became very slow and users are compaining that they cannot load any pages.

  • How do I rewrite destination IP with another public on Cisco ASA?

    We have a vendor having issues with their load balancer and are not responsive with tech support to us.  They are handing out 2 DNS entries, one works, one does not.  I would like to rewrite the bad one with the good one on our ASA outbound to band aid the issue until we can get resolved with their tech support.  What is the appropriate NAT statement?

    8.3 uses the new NAT configuration.

    What exactly are you trying to "band aid" is it the DNS requests?
    If you are running version 8.3 or higher, you could try something like the following:
    object network BAD-DNS
      host x.x.x.x
    object network GOOD-DNS
      host y.y.y.y
    object network LAN
      subnet z.z.z.0 255.255.255.0
    nat (inside,outside) source static LAN LAN destination static BAD-DNS GOOD-DNS
    pre 8.3, i think the commands are like this:

  • Cisco ASA 5505 IPSEC, one endpoint behind NAT device

    We have two Cisco ASA 5505 devices.
    Both are identical, however, one of them is behind a NAT device.
    We are attempting to create an IPSEC network.
    Site fg:
    <ipsec subnet1> -- ASA 5505 (ASA1) -- <internet>
    ASA1: 10.1.1.2/24 (inside), 212.xxx.xxx.xxx/28 (outside)
    Site be:
    <ipsec_subnet2> -- ASA 5505 (ASA3) -- Zywall USG (USG1) -- <internet>
    ASA3: 10.1.4.1/24 (inside), 192.168.4.50/24 (outside)
    USG1: 192.168.4.100/24 (inside), 195.xxx.xxx.xxx/30 (outside)
    USG1: UDP port 500/4500 forwarded to 192.168.4.50
    It seems that ASA1 stops the procedure (we verified this with debug crypto isakmp 254):

    We verified / attempted the following:
    - NAT excemption on both sides for IPSEC subnets
    - Mirror image crypto maps
    - Disabled IKE peer ID validation (yes, pre-shared key but we ran out of ideas)
    - Toggled between static to dynamic crypto maps on ASA1
    Most search results turned up results referring to the incorrect settings of the crypto map or the lack of NAT excemption.
    Does anyone have any idea?

    When you define the peer with static tunnel-group entry ASA is looking for peer configuration in static crypto map. If the peer is behind static NAT configure a proper static crypto map with matching acl and proposals.

    I am not quite sure how the setup is on your ASA currently but the following configuration option came to mind
    Interfaces "dmz" and "inside"
    10.84.25.0/24 = "inside" network
    172.17.3.150 = "dmz" server real IP
    10.96.202.10 = "dmz" server mapped IP
    access-list DMZ-SERVER-POLICYNAT remark Policy NAT for DMZ Server
    access-list DMZ-SERVER-POLICYNAT permit ip host 172.17.3.150 10.84.25.0 255.255.255.0
    static (dmz,inside) 10.96.202.10 access-list DMZ-SERVER-POLICYNAT

  • Cisco 2921 destination NAT for transparent proxy

    Hi All,
    I can successfully destination-nat all outbound port 80 and 443 connections to a remote proxy server without issue, provided I use a PBR first to push any of these connections off to a Linux box.
    In iptables its easy:
    iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i eth0 -p tcp --dport 80 -j DNAT --to <proxy ip>:80
    iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i eth0 -p tcp --dport 443 -j DNAT --to <proxy ip>:443
    iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth0 -d <proxy ip> -j SNAT --to <linux box IP>
    I am however, trying to work out a way to do this without the need of a Linux box, except it seems at this stage that the Cisco 2900 series (IOS 15.0(1r)M16) is incapable of doing this. I just wanted to confirm from some of the experts in here if this is actually the case.
    So to reiterate - I'm trying to intercept any outbound packets with destination port tcp 80 or 443 and change the destination IP to point to the remote proxy server.
    The source address also needs to be changed to that of the outside interface of the router it is exiting (obviously).
    Any ideas guys? I'm stuck.

    Sounds like you need a route-map to change the next IP hop?
    This would be the best way to do it which will also verify the remote proxy server is available as well.
