Cisco AT&T Microcell and D-Link DIR-655 Settings

I finally got my Microcell working again last night when I plugged it directly into the cable modem.  I let it sit over night, and it was still working this morning.  However, when I went back to the configuration I was using prior to Sunday -- when everything worked -- the constant 3G blinking light returned.  The configuration that worked prior to Sunday was as follows: cable modem to DIR-655 Router, and DIR-655 router to M-Cell.  Now that configuration no longer works.
So, that leaves me with the question of how, exactly, the DIR-655 should be set up for the M-Cell to work properly?  As noted, it worked fine prior to Sunday with the current configuration, but won't work now when plugged into the DIR-655.  I have tried the recommended configuration settings listed in the manual for the DIR-655 to no avail.  AT&T and D-Link don't have a clue.
Thanks for any info on this.

A number of people seem to have similar complaints on the AT&T forums.  I don't work with that device, but I found this:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/3626/att-3g-microcell-a-comprehensive-exploration/4
Which suggests it just uses NTP, DNS and IPSEC with NAT traversal, which should have no problems at all with your setup.
Since AT&T supports the device, your best bet is to probably call them.
One possibility is that the NAT timeouts on the DLink are too agressive for the Microcell.  If you are technically inclined, you might want to see what is going on using Wireshark.  Does powercycling the Microcell temporarily fix the problem?  How long does it run before the 3G LED links again?

  • MacBook Pro and D Link DIR-655

I just upgraded from a MacBook to a MacBook Pro, and I'm having trouble connecting to my D Link DIR-655 via the airport. When I try to connect through the menu bar, the airport tries to connect and then times out. I can only get online if I connect through network diagnostics. Anyone know what the deal is? I haven't had this problem with any other wireless networks.

Thanks for the feedback LilyLC. I too have gone through all of your steps and a host of others. Still with no luck. No problems at all with my Airport Express, but still no way to keep up a connection with my DIR-655 via WIFI N. I tried all of the steps with each firmware version too. I've given up at this point. I want the 2 months of my life back that I spent troubleshooting this mess. At least Apple could acknowledge this and say we are on it, and that it isn't only "in our heads."

I think that Apple needs to do some re-evaluating of their software release schedule/quality control. At this point I would rather wait and have them get it right then put out subpar updates and fall into the downward spiral pattern of "the rest of them". My confidence has been shaken and I've been a mac fan since the beginning. I just want Apple to split off the iPod/Phone/TV etc. into its own division and to get back on track with the Mac line starting now. We need this stuff to work to make a living and this takes a higher priority in my mind than new twiddle apps on the iPhone.
I do own two iPods and an iPhone but would chuck them in a river to get Leopard working solidly with the majors like Adobe, Extensis, Epson, as well as stable networking, syncing and backups. Apple really has their hands full at this point with a large list of bugs. I really wish them well but can't say I'm in the least bit happy as a consumer at this point. For the first time in a long time I feel sheepish when answering whether or not I'd recommend a Mac, and that hurts me deeply for some reason.

  • IOS 5 Wireless Sync and D-Link DIR-655

Has anyone figured out the settings to be inputed into the DIR-655 settings menus in order for wireless sync to work between iTunes and iOS 5 devices?  I've read about every post I can find, and nothing is specifically helping.  (BTW, I had Comcast set my cable modem to "bridge", so that takes care of at least one issue that I've read about).
This wireless sync option, which is meant to make life easier, is driving me nuts.
    Thanks!

I had a similar problem and I needed a second computer (B) using a wired connection to the router to allow the other one (A) in. This is what I did:
    1. Using the wired computer (B) I opened up the network so any computer could join the network wirelessly.
    2. I joined the network with (A) wirelessly.
    3. Once I had successfully joined the network with (A) I used the wired computer (B) to do a search for new computers so (A) could be registered in the Access Control List.
    4. Using (B) I closed the network again.
    5. Now I could join the network with (A) wirelessly without any trouble.

  • Wirelessly bridge AEBSn and D-Link (DIR-655)

    Hi,
I'd like to use an AEBSn to extend the range of my existing 802.11n network (DIR-655 [Draft-N]) AP. I'd like to configure the AEBSn to use the same ESSID and WPA2-AES key as the D-Link and obtain the pertinent IP configuration from a server I've got configuired without connecting the two w/an Cat5/6 cable.
    Is this possible?

Hello sjolshag. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Unfortunately, most non-AirPort routers are not compatible with Apple's implementation of Wireless Distribution System (WDS)...so it very unlikely that your D-Link router can be extended wirelessly with the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn).
The few that are known to work are:
    - Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GS (not v5)
    - Belkin F5D7230-4 and F5D7231
    - BT Voyager 2091
    - Netgear WGR614 v6
    - Buffalo WGR-G54

  • Airprint from iPhone to HP D110 printer via Bonjour and D-Link DIR-655 problem

I have searched the Dlink, Apple, and HP forums for answers.  Many people have had the problem.  Some have found solutions.  I have tried what I think are all the solutions presented.  However, Airprint works for about 2 minutes on iPhone after restarting the printer, but then goes away.
I tried setting up an Ad Hoc network on the printer with the iphone and it Airprints fine.  PCs, and the Mac print fine wirelessly.  But using Bonjour in Safari (on Mac or PC) shows the printer however clicking on it makes it disappear.  Using the printer’s ip address opens the printer’s setup menu on Mac and PC.
Bonjour appears to work for about 2 minutes, then goes away.  Noted that in one Help page on HP site, it said that to connect the printer to a Mac you had to do 2 operations within 2 minutes.  Maybe the printer outputs some Bonjour info for that long, but doesn’t respond to requests from other Bonjour devices?  Or are they being filtered by the router?
So wireless is working.  Bonjour is working iphone directly to printer.  Problem points to router setup.  All hardware has latest SW/FW.
Most of the forum postings are from 3 months to 1 year old – no new data.  Anybody have any other ideas to try?

  • 802.11N and D-Link DIR-655

    Hi,
Recently bought the D-Link router in order to improve wireless performance on my network.
The router is set up to use 802.11G+N. The current speed is 54Mbps and using the G setup.
However I wold like to use the N implementation thereby getting speeds of 135-150 Mbps (works well on my PC). I have tried a lot of things on the router (changing various wireless settings, changing encryption etc.) but nothing helps.
Has anyone achieved N speeds with a Macbook and any D-Link router? If so how did you do it?
Hope that you can help me...
    - Jan -

    Happy New Year Jan!
First check that your MacBook is n enabled.
Open the utility "Network Utility" and using the "Info" panel check the settings contained in the Network Interface selector - (en1), mine shows "Interface Information" and at the bottom of the list is "Model: Wireless Network Adapter (802.11 a/b/g/n)"
If it is n enabled, as mine is above, have you tried it when the router is set to operate as n only?
If not n enabled, but does have Core 2 Duo processor, read the "Overview" for this Apple Store item:

  • My MBP 13 and d-link dir-655 router

Before reinstalling Lion last Friday. Whenever I turned on my MBP 13 inch laptop. I noticed that it would connect to my d-link router. I am able to go online. After a few minutes, my laptop would lose it's connection. I would get a blank page. I would have to reconnect to my router again. That would get me connected for good. What is causing this problem? I thought I had a virus. So last Friday, I decided to reinstall lion. I also reformatted my HD before reinstalling Lion. Now I don't experience that problem.  I am able to connect through my router without any problems.

  • Photosmart D110a Wireless Troubleshooting with D-Link DIR-655 and Mac OSX 10.8

    Good evening all,
Apologizes if this has already been posted. I've googled this issue a couple of times, but I still haven't found a solution for this problem.
I have the Photosmart D110a and I'm running Mac OSX Mountain Lion, and my router is a D-Link DIR-655 and my security is WPA-Personal and the router is running in 802.11gn mode. My ISP is Optimum Online.
The issue that I've been having is that the printer works wireless when everything has been recently booted up. As does the scanner. However, if it hasnt been used for a while, the printer shows up in the OSX Print & Scan settings page as idle, but when I try to print, the dialog just says "looking for printer" and never finds it, and just says "The printer is not connected" under the item in the OSX Print Queue. Because of this, I have to restart the computer or restart the printer for them to find each other again.
I've seen other solutions on here, such as giving the printer a static IP address, and this hasn't worked either. The printer is still accessible with the static IP address, which means it's still got a connection to my network, but for some reason the OS isn't recognizing it or something.
It's obvious that the printer works when everything is freshly rebooted, but I still haven't been able to figure out this issue once it's been idle for a while.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    Hi,
Try following my post below, I believe it might be relevant as the router drops the Bonjour connection:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Networking-and-Wireless/losing-connection-to-airprint-a-few-min...
I would also suggest updating your router's firmware and check if that may help:

For any help with this proccess I would highly recommend contacting Dlink support.

  • Linking D-Link DIR 655 and AirPort Extreme

Help! I need to link my D-Link DIR-655 and new Airport Extreme, but have no idea how to do it. I use the D-Link as my base router and want to use the Airport Extreme as a repeater/range extender upstairs in the house (the D-Link is in my office in the basement)where I use my Macbook Pro. The D-Link signal isn’t strong enough to reach areas of the upstairs. How can I make these two pieces of hardware work together? Is it possible? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’m not a tech whiz.

I use the D-Link as my base router and want to use the Airport Extreme as a repeater/range extender upstairs in the house
The "extend a network" feature of the Extreme is intended to extend a wireless network created by another 802.11n Apple Airport product (Extreme, Express or Time Capsule).
Wireless repeaters or "extenders" use proprietary techniques that don't work well among different manufacturers. To extend your network wirelessly in the manner you seek would require that you replace your D-Link with another Airport, or replace the Express with a D-Link product.
The ideal solution in your case would be to run an Ethernet cable between the devices. That will work.

  • IChat and a D-Link DIR-655

I've read the various support discussions on this router and using it with iChat. Lots of fixes and settings have been given. People say it works and it doesn't work.
If you use iChat (especially with screen sharing) and have a DIR-655, please post here what settings you've used to accomplish this. I would be nice to have something complete in one place. Not just "Turn on UPnP". I've done that and that alone is not the answer.
So again, if you have done iChat screen sharing and you have a DIR-655, please post which settings you changed, turned on or turn off to get it all working.
    Thanks,
    Charles

I seem to remember that one post/thread had comments about successfully using this device but I can not seem to find it in either iChat 3 or the iChat 4 (iChat and iChat Sharing in Leopard)
The closest I got was a reference to it in this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7296647&#7296647 but no link.

  • Currently, E4200 defintely inferior to D-Link DIR-655 when it comes to streaming applications

About 8 weeks ago I upgraded from a D-Link DIR-655 single band n router to the E4200, primarily to get into the 5GHz band for streaming Netflix to two different TVs in our house.
The E4200's wireless connections to my laptop's Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN  card are very fast and rock solid.  All of the E4200's wired connections are rock solid.  The router generall performs well as intended.
BUT neither my Samsung BD-C6900 Blu Ray Player nor our WDTV live plus HD box establish a useful connection to the E4200 - with two very different symptoms:
    1) For the WDTV I am using a D-Link DAP-1522 wireless AP to have network connectivity.  The DAP-1522 is less than 10 feet away from the E4200 and the wireless connection to the E4200 get's easily established.  Using an Ethernet cable at the AP and checking speeds, they are very decent, with over 25Mbit/s download.  Problem is:  When attempting to stream anything from the WDTV through the E4200 using the wireless AP, the WDTV always produces an "invalid DNS" error before any streaming even starts - even though it receives its IP address, subnet, DNS etc. w/o a glitch.  When I replace the E4200 with the old DIR-655 (and leave the DAP-1522 AP in place as is) I have no such issues.   BTW - this is independent of accessing the E4200 through the DAP-1522 on either the 2.4 or the 5 GHz spectrum.  And yes, I tried ALL settings, on all three machines (router, AP,  WDTV) including fixed IP, different DNS servers, etc.
    2) The Samsung BD-C6900 also can connect to the E4200 w/o a problem. The Blu-Ray player even shows an "excellent" five bar strength wireless network (2.4GHz band only) .  But the connection is relatively unstable.  And using the Samsung Blu Ray player's internal speed test, download speeds are only around 200kbps - too slow and unstable slow even for Pandora streaming.   Again, just replacing the E4200 with the old DIR-655 fixes the problem - even though the BluRay player then only shows a "good" signal strength, but downloads are around 20Mbit/s.  To me this hints at some inter-compatibility issues between the E4200 and the wireless card built into the BD-C6900.
I've worked this problem for countless hours now.   Only solution that worked: We are now running both wireless routers,  using the DIR-655 dedicated to streaming to those two devices.
All this leads me to believe that the current version/firmware of the E4200 (newest firmware) is suffering from some inter-operability and streaming issues - at least on the wireless side of the router.  Anyone else with similar devices and problems?  If anyone from Cisco reads this – maybe go, recreate the setup and try for yourself. As for Cisco’s reputation – come the next generation of routers in 2 years, I will go back to D-Link.

Thank you for your suggestion.  I wish it was that easy.
We have both Comcast Cable and Clear WiMax 4G - I've been trying it with either IPS connection and several DNS servers.
    DNS servers used:
The DNS servers I tried include
68.87.68.166, 68.87.74.166 (when hooked up to Comcast cable)
75.94.255.12 , 64.13.115.12 (when hooked up to the Clear modem)
and 75.75.75.75, 8.8.8.8, 4.2.2.6, 209.244.0.3 - all of which have very good response times from our location.
All else on the network works fine.  And both of these machines, the BD player as well as the WDTV show correct DNS info.  Again - taking out the E4200 and replacing it with the old DIR-655 also makes the two machines causing trouble with the E4200 behave alright.  Hence it's not a DNS server address issue per se.
Connected to the E4200 using Ethernet cables both, the WDTV and the BD player, work fine.
Which really leads me to believe the problem is how the E4200 handles streaming aspects over wireless.

  • D Link DIR 655 xtreme N gigabit router

    Hello
Has anyone tried to connect their T61 with a 4965AGN wireless card to the D link DIR 655?  Before I go buy one, I thought I would check.
    Thanks!

DO NOT buy a D Link DIR 655 if you want to operate at 802.11n speed with a properly IEEE 802.11n Draft 2 device, like the Intel 4965AGN card.
The DIR 655 only operates on the increasingly crowded 2.4GHz to 2.483GHz WiFi frequency band.  You need a 802.11n access point router that operates in the 5GHz WiFi band to get reliable and sustainable 802.11n connections over time.
I strongly suggest that yuo look at a Cisco/Linksys WRT-610N, which is a dual band (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz) Wifi routers that is well capable of delivering 270Mbps connections with an Intel 4965AGN card.
I'm using Intel 4965AGN cards in several x6x ThinkPads in connecting to a LinkSys WRT-600N (the previous model to the 610N) and I am getting solid sustainable 270 Mps connections.
    Cheers,

  • I have airport extreme 802.11AC as a base that connect to Cable modem. How can I connect D-link DIR-655 to AE to utilize as an extender or repeat?

    Hello-
I have wireless router Airport Extreme 802.11AC that connect direct to Cable modem...how can I setup the D-Link DIR-655 wireless router to AE and act as extender or repeater?. Thanks in advance.

Apple has done their best to install proprietary software in their wireless routers that is designed to only allow other Apple routers to repeat or extend the network wirelessly.
So, the chances are extremely small that a D-Link....or another other router for that matter.....could be configured to do what you ask.
There are no settings on an AirPort Extreme that would allow a D-Link device to extend the network, so all that you can do is experiment with different settings on the D-Link device to see if it might be possible for it to extend the network.
A post on a D-Link support forum might be a good idea to see if any D-Link specialists have some ideas on this topic.
    Good luck.

Post the link to your Router Model,  http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=530
And any other information you think is important if answering your own post, and the nature of the problem, itself.
I have had a full functioning network with D-Link DIR655  hardware Rev A3 firmware rev 1.33NA,
with 5 PC's Dell XPS 730x, Alienware m17x,  Studio 1747,Studio 1749(touchscreen) Studio, 14z all using Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit, and one Macbook Pro 17", Plus a Dell mini 9 hackintosh( I did purchase  Retail10.5.4  and I placed the Apple stickers over the Dell logo.[ also have a PS#, and PSP 3000 (both have latest Sony firmware updates.]
All PC's with Win7 Pro x64,'s are connected using Network Magic Pro 5.5 pure-0, with the exception of the Macbook pro OS X 10.7 and hackintosh Mac X10.5.8  which both use the Mac version 4 network pro (Ver. for mac os x.) of which I bought a 3 pack, (To have them work with NWM 5.5 Pro, & share both files, and printers with the windows PC's)
Everything was working great until I updated the firmware on my DIR-655 from 1.2NA to 1.33NA.
Since then I have been unable to reconnect my PSP to the network. using  WPA 2 security, which is what I had before the firmware update. If it wasn't for the security additions, this firmware upgrade adds  to the router, I would have gone back to the previos version.
Here is what I've done in attempts to fix, and then my final solution.
In Network Magic 5.5, I have tried shutting off the network protection feature, and I also re-added the MAC Address, of the PSP to the Router's list of allowable hardware, when I added my list of all the others..
The PSP will start the handshake with the router, and then pause at the getting IP address screen, and finally timeout.
I is showing up on the Network Magic 5.5 Pro's Network Map area, which leads me to believe it is being seen and let in by the software's security feature.
I also tried to manually add an IP address, for the PSP, using the IP addy, it always seems to grab via DHCP [192.168.7.172] only to have it timeout the same way as it did before, with DHCP
As I needed Internet access to update the PSP and make purchases from the PSN, I decided to connect my older Linksys WRT54G (HW Ver 5) Ver.1.02.8 (I'm considering the DD-WRT firmware for all it's improvements) to the DIR-655 with a CAT 6 cable. Network magic see's this router, as I added it's MAC address to the D-Link MAC filter first.
I was able to use WPA Security with this router and the PSP connected without any problem.
I thought maybe something was wrong with the PSP-3000, but I'm able to connect to a friends Belkin router
    , using WPA 2
I setup the WRT54G using the studio 14z, as it's the lightest of my portables, with windows on it.
Should I add Network Magic 5.5 to the network that is my Router & PSP?
[I have a older thinkpad, that runs Windows XP SP3, which has just been sitting around, and my NWM 5.5
license is for 8 PC's and 3 Macintosh Computers.
    Thanks in advance.
Regards in getting my network correctly secured once again,
    DakotaJoe

I hate being the bearer of bad news, but from what I have read on the Forum and FAQ, you will need to un-install Network Magic from all of your computers making sure that no NM settings folders are left behind under users.  Then unplug all wired computers and rebuild your network by re-installing NM  in each computer before connecting it to your router.  After you have added all of your wired computers, set up your wireless network and install NM and add each wireless computer.
That is a lot of work.  I hope this helps.

A post on a D-Link support forum might be a good idea to see if any D-Link specialists have some ideas on this topic.
    Good luck.
