Cisco Building Automation Technology

Good afternoon,
I am researching into the building automation technologies that Cisco offers for our buisness. We are a university campus in Ontario, Canada and theoretically I am proposing the Energywise solution, which means that we would need to replace all (over 150) switches in our residences accross campus. I am currently waiting on a Cisco contact which I was told would come in "5-7 buisness days" however I am hoping you all here can help me as well.
I am looking into what components would be necessary for us to install/replace throughout the campus to have the Energywise solution work.
To use Energywise to control lighting, HVAC, etc. in the offices for the Housing and Residences (we are not looking into that for the entire campus - just our offices, for the current time - except for video survillance that will be incorperated), it is required that we purchase Cisco's Network Building Medators. How, exactly, do these connect to the electricity systems? It would seem as though there would be a converter from electricity to IP however I cannot find information on that anywhere. Do any of you know how that may work?
Also, does Energywise only work for Cisco products? For example:
     1. We currently have Nortel IP Phones in the offices. Would these have to be replaced with Cisco devices in order to install 3rd party applications to use the automation technology? I believe another option would to use PC applications instead of using IP Phone applications, does this theory seem reasonable?
     2. We are looking into installing a new surveillance system as well. Would the cameras and the technology to monitor and control the cameras have to be Cisco and running Cisco technology, or, as long as they are connected to the IP network through Cisco switches, would the suffice?
There are some starting questions that I have been searching for the last couple days.
Thank you for your help,
- Melissa

Melissa,
I don't have any experience with the mediators, but I'll see what I can dig up. I think I can answer some of your other questions though.
Also, does Energywise only work for Cisco products? No, you can install a client on servers and workstations and schedule them as well.
     1. We currently have Nortel IP Phones in the offices. Would these have to be replaced with Cisco devices in order to install 3rd party applications to use the automation technology? I believe another option would to use PC applications instead of using IP Phone applications, does this theory seem reasonable?
I'll put on my sales hat "You must replace everything that isn't Cisco!".....OK hat is now off. You can use Energywise with Nortel phones. You actually reduce/remove the power at the switch level where the PoE is supplied. There may be enhancements with using a Cisco phone, but it will work with any IP phones (wireless access points too). As I mentioned above, there is a client you can install on the workstation to put it into sleep/hibernation/power down.
     2. We are looking into installing a new surveillance system as well. Would the cameras and the technology to monitor and control the cameras have to be Cisco and running Cisco technology, or, as long as they are connected to the IP network through Cisco switches, would the suffice?
Again you could control the cameras with the switch, but by integrating Cisco IP surveillance, the value of your investment greatly increases. Here's an example. Let's say you have a camera by the fire alarm which is right inside the door (typical location). When the alarm is pulled....well that's it, the alarm went off. Leveraging a Cisco infrastructure, here is what could happen: The alarm is pulled, as soon as that is pulled, the camera powers on and starts recording. You now have video evidence of who pulled the alarm. What happens if they were wearing a mask or bad lighting, etc? If you're using Cisco card access, you can now correlate who was last through the door. The video and swipe access is now archived and time stamped for later investigation and possibly evidence. You can also have it call the fire department, your facilities people, the CEO, send an email, flash the display on an IP Phone (must be Cisco), etc. You can even have it conference all the previous listed people together.
Hope this helps.

I would really appreciate if you guys work on the feature “ custom backgrounds for chat notifications”.
If users will be able to choose any image of their liking in the custom background feature if would add value. Currently some of the chat messengers provide this facility to the users which makes interesting to the users while improving user friendliness and satisfaction. Options that would include are
    Take a photo
    Choose from albums
    Search from web
    Delete
That appears to be a reasonably robust selection. In search, a user can use a built in engine to pull up images based on search and then select it as it their choice. Once you chose an image, it will be asked to confirm and ‘set’ as the universal chat window for all contacts.

  • Interfacing Siemens Desigo PXC Building Automation controller with LabVIEW

    Hello everyone,
I am currently trying to interface Siemens building Automation controller Desigo PXC100-E.D http://www.buildingtechnologies.siemens.com/bt/global/en/buildingautomation-hvac/building-automation...
with LabVIEW using OPC servers. I had once interfaced the S7-300 PLC of Siemens with simatic step-7 software with LabVIEW but in this case I don't which driver should I select and don't know is it possible or not. If any one of you have similar sort of expierence please I need advice..
    Thanks

    Hi,
As you have described I've done the whole configuration. I am using MatrikonOPC for BACnet and as I've checked my device and the software are working properly. Now what I am trying to is that I am connecting the BACnet OPC server with LabVIEW so that the MatrikonOPC act as a connection layer between my device and LabVIEW. So that I will be able to change values directly from my LV vi. Now when I connect that Bacnet OPC with LabVIEW using the same procedure for PLC it gets connected because it is showing all the tags from the device. But after doing the whole procedure which is the same according to the tutorial 'connecting LV to any PLC using OPC' when I deploy the variables I am getting some error. I am attaching the screenshot of the error. Please let me know if I am doing any thing wrong.
PS: I am using a virtual machine and I've tried the whole thing with the NI OPC servers as well according to the tutorial but still when i deploy variables I am getting this error.

Have you tried to call ojdeploy directly instead of using the ojdeploy task?
I remember that the ant task has had some bugs. You can use the exec task and execute ojdeploy directly. Then you don't even need to include the path elements as you use the jdev project which includes all the information.
    ojdeploy.executable=path_to_your_jdev_installation/jdev/bin/ojdeploy.exe
        <target name="ojdeploy" description="execute ojdeploy">

  • Extract red image with Vision Builder Automated Inspection

    Hello
I have 2 camera connected to a CVS and I want to process the images to have only the red part of the images.
for that I tried to use VBAI but I din't sucess, I think nit should be in the vision assistant step, but I already tryed with "extract a color plane" and "treshold color", and when I test with an image it don't work.
Does anybody know how to that?
    Thank you for your help

    Hello
I may be find a way to delete everythimg that is not red by substract green and blue with vision assisatant, it seems to work.
Now I try to extract only little part of the picture, only the part of the picture who are red, for that I created ROIs for some red parts of the images, and I want to record only this ROIs, to reduce the size of the file and kipping the same resolution.
Does anybody know how to do that?

  • Building automation to Resize by fileweight and dimension. I'm so close. Any ideas?

    Greetings,
I'm pretty new to the JS world but have been using Photoshop for the better part of 2 decades and have ALWAYS wanted something that would let me set filesize/weight limitations. The world appears to have given up before me (which should be a sign to stop?) but I can't give up now; that, and my employer has asked me to figure this out. So here I am asking for your help.
Here's a gist of the code I have. It is "sorta" working but for some reason with larger file sizes it seems to make the file larger, then smaller etc etc. and loops infinitely. I'm thinking somehow it keeps grabbing an older version of the file, and possibly my problem might be in the saving procedure. ANY input would be extermely welcome, including suggestions on how to accomplish things more elegantly etc.
    https://gist.github.com/anonymous/95374b5e3db88261ce4c
Basically I need to get the file down below 95k. First by lowering quality (because it is all that is necessary for MOST of the files I am handing in) to a limit of 50% then begin lowering size by 72px until the lower limit of pixel dimension it met.
    Ideas?

Michael, any chance you have some of that code floating around? I'd like to see how you wizards tackled it vs what my mundane self is up to. I wonder if there's a way I can pass the SaveForWeb adjusted files to an automator app or a standard Photoshop action for the resizing bit, since that process is much simpler. Maybe that would help route around that file caching issue; if that is in fact what the problem was. I have noticed no issues with the first While loop handling everything down to 50% quality, but it seems like the passing from one loop to the next is where things get wonky. Ugh I know just enough JS to break things. So frustrating being so close to an answer!

  • Build automation with Adobe Captivate

My project is using both Adobe Creative Suite 3 and
Captivate. With Adobe Creative Suite 3, we can generate on the
command line with a .jsfl file automatically .swf files from .fla
    files.
We are looking for the automation solution for captivate ?
Does it exist ? I did not see it mentioned in the online help (I
have just downloaded Adobe Captivate 3).
    Regards,
    Antoine

    Hi there
    You said:
Fortunately it only seems to be a Firefox issue but unfortunately neither they or Adobe seem interested in fixing it.
I would ask if any of you have taken the time to visit http://www.adobe.com/go/wish and report it to Adobe?
Maybe they are unaware of the exact reason. And the more folks that report it, the more likely it is to be fixed.
    Cheers... Rick

    Hi Marcelo,
Yes, there are some requirements for certificates in Expressway.
    Expressway Core (Exp-C)
    - Can be signed by either External or Internal CA
    - Better to use a cluster name even if you start with 1 peer in Exp-C cluster. In the future, if more peers are added, changes would be minimal.
    - Better to use FQDN of cluster as CN of certificate, this way the traversal zone configuration on Expressway-E won't require any change even if new peers are added to Exp-C cluster.
    - If CUCM is mixed mode, include security profile names (in FQDN format) as Subject Alternate Names
    - The Chat Node Aliases that are configured on the IM and Presence servers. They will be required only for Unified Communications XMPP federation deployments that intend to use both TLS and group chat. (Note that Unified Communications XMPP federation will be supported in a future Expressway release). The Expressway-C automatically includes the chat node aliases in the CSR, providing it has discovered a set of IM&P servers.
    - For TLS b/w CUCM, IM-P & Exp-C
+ If using self-signed certificates on CUCM, IM/P. Load Cisco Tomcat, cup, cup-xmpp certificates from IM-P on Exp-C. Load callmanager, Cisco Tomcat certificates from CUCM on Exp-C.
+ If using Internal CA signed certificates on CUCM, IM/P. Load Root CA certificates on Exp-C.
      + Load CA certificate under tomcat-trust, cup-trust, cup-xmpp-trust on IM-P.
+ Load CA certificate under tomcat-trust, callmanager-trust on CUCM.
    Expressway Edge (Exp-E)
    - Signed by External CA
    - Configured Unified Communications domain as Subject Alternate Name
    - If using a cluster, select FQDN of this peer as CN and FQDN of Cluster + this peer as Subject Alternate Name.
    - If XMPP federation is being deployed, enter the same Chat Node Aliases as entered in Exp-C.

    Tenaro,
Additionally here are the most common login issues.  Unfortunately this includes items related to Presence implementation but I commented where we did not use these in our lab setup for CUCM Phone Capabilities only.
    Login Issues
    Problem:
Jabber Unable to Sign-in Through MRA
    Solution
This can be caused by a number of things, a few of which are outlined below.
     1.  Collaboration Edge SRV record not created and/or port 8443 unreachable
For a jabber client to be able to login successfully using MRA, a specific collaboration edge SRV record must be created and accessible externally. When a jabber client is initially started it will make server DNS SRV queries:
_cisco-uds : this SRV record is used to determine if a CUCM server is available.
_cuplogin : this SRV record is used to determine if an IM&P server is available.
_collab-edge : this SRV record is used to determine if MRA is available.
If the jabber client is started and does not receive an SRV answer for _cisco-uds and _cuplogin, and does receive an answer for _collab-edge then it will use this answer to try to contact the Expressway-E listed in the SRV answer.
The _collab-edge SRV record should point to the FQDN of the Expressway-E using port 8443. If the _collab-edge SRV is not created, or is not externally available,  or if it is available, but port 8443 is not reachable, then the jabber client will fail to login.
     2.  Unacceptable or No Available Certificate on VCS Expressway
After the jabber client has received an answer for _collab-edge, it will then contact the expressway using TLS over port 8443 to try to retrieve the certificate from the expressway to setup TLS for communication between the jabber client and the expressway.
If the Expressway does not have a valid signed certificate that contains either the FQDN or domain of the Expressway, then this will fail and the jabber client will fail to login.
If this is occurring, the you should use the CSR tool on the Expressway, which will automatically include the FQDN of the expressway as a Subject Alternative Name.
MRA requires secure communication between the Expressway-C and Expressway-E, and between the Expressway-E and external endpoints.
    Expressway-C Server Certificate Requirements:
The Chat Node Aliases configured on the IM&P servers. This is required if you are doing XMPP federation.  The Expressway-C should automatically include these in the CSR provided that an IM&P server has already been discovered on the Expressway-C.
The names in FQDN format of all Phone Security Profiles in CUCM configured for TLS and used on devices configured for MRA. This allows for secure communication between the CUCM and Expressway-C  for the devices using those Phone Security Profiles.
    Expressway-E Server Certificate Requirements:
All domains configured for Unified Communications. This includes the domain of the Expressway-E and C, e-mail address domain configured for Jabber, and any presence domains.
The Chat Node Aliases configured on the IM&P servers. This is required if you are doing XMPP federation.
The MRA Deployment guide describes this in greater detail on pages 17-18. (http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/expressway/config_guide/X8-1/Mobile-Remote-Ac...
Note: In our lab for testing Phone Capabilities only, we did not include the Chat Node Aliases in the certificate as we were not using IM&P.
     3.  No UDS Servers Found in Edge Config
After the Jabber client successfully establishes a secure connection with the Expressway-E, it will ask for its edge config. This edge config will contain the SRV records for _cuplogin and _cisco-uds. If these SRV records are not returned in the edge config, then the jabber client will not be able to proceed with trying to login.
To fix this, make sure that _cisco-uds and _cuplogin SRV records are created internally and resolvable by the Expressway-C
More information on the DNS SRV records can be found on page 10 of the MRA deployment guide for X8.1.1 (http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/expressway/config_guide/X8-1/Mobile-Remote-Access-via-Expressway-Deployment-Guide-X8-1-1.pdf)
Note: In our lab for testing Phone Capabilities only, we did not include the DNS SRV for _cuplogin.
     4.  The Expressway-C logs will indicate the following error: XCP_JABBERD  Detail="Unable to connect to host '%IP%', port 7400:(111) Connection  refused"
If Expressway-E NIC is incorrectly configured, this can cause the XCP server to not be updated. If the Expressway-E meets the following criteria, then you will likely have this issue:
    Using a single NIC
Advanced Networking Option Key is installed
Use Dual Network Interfaces option is set to “Yes”
To correct this problem, change the “Use Dual Network Interfaces” option to “No”
The reason this is a problem is because the Expressway-E will be listening for the XCP session on the wrong network interface, which will cause the connection to fail/timeout. The Expressway-E listens on TCP port 7400 for the XCP session. You can verify this by using the netstat command from the VCS as root.
Note: We used a Dual Network Interface Expressway for testing but were not using XCP, so this was not applicable to us.
     5.  VCE-E Server hostname/domain name does not match what is configured in the _collab-edge SRV.
If the Expressway-E Server hostname/domain name does not match what was received in the _collab-edge SRV answer, the jabber client will not be able to communicate to the Expressway-E. The Jabber client uses the xmppEdgeServer/Address element in the get_edge_config response to establish the XMPP connection to the Expressway-E.
This is an example of what the xmppEdgeServer/Address would look like in the get_edge_config response from the Expressway-E to the Jabber client:
    <xmppEdgeServer>
    <server>
    <address>ott-vcse1.vcx.cisco.com</address>
    <tlsPort>5222</tlsPort>
    </server>
    </xmppEdgeServer>
To avoid this, make sure that the _collab-edge SRV record matches the Expressway-E hostname/domain name. Enhancement CSCuo83458 has been filed for this.
Note: This was one of our issues when we first setup.  We adjusted our Expressway-E to insure the below:
System > Administration > System Name this was the FQDN
System > DNS > System Host Name was the host portion of the FQDN
System > DNS > Domain Name was the domain portion of the FQDN
System > Clustering > Cluster Name (FQDN for Provisioning) was the FQDN
     6. Unable to log into certain IM&P servers. VCS logs say "No realm found for host cups-example.domain.com, check connect auth configuration"
From the Expressway-E, go to Configuration -> Unified Communications -> IM&P Servers. Open each server and click "Save" again. Not sure exactly why this happens.
Note:  This was N/A to our test and can be ignored with Phone Capabilities only.
    Thanks
    Fred

  • How to solve "Error: Invalid Embed directive in stylesheet - can't resolve source" while building using mxmlc.exe on command prompt

    Hi,
Currently, I am developing a powershell script for Flex build automation.
I found some problem and have been trying to search any references and tried any ways to fix it but It did not work.
I am using compc.exe for compiling the libraries and it works fine.
I compiled css files into swf files using mxmlc.exe and it works fine.
However, I have a problem while building my main application (mxml file).
    It complains about embedded resources.
I run this command, it works fine:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Flex Builder 3\sdks\3.2.0\bin\mxmlc.exe" "C:\{somePath}\FlashClient\src\styleLang.css" -output "C:\{somePath}\FlashClient_deploy\styleLang.swf"
However, when I tried to run these command on cmd for testing:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Flex Builder 3\sdks\3.2.0\bin\mxmlc.exe" "C:\{somePath}\FlashClient\src\FlashClient.mxml" -load-config "C:\{somePath}\FlashClient\src\dump_config_temp.xml" -output "C:\{somePath}\FlashClient_deploy\flashclient_test.swf"
I got a lot of this error message:
    this is my folder structure:
      FlashClient
      |
      |---assets
      |---src
          |
          |---FlashClient.mxml
          |---FlashClient.as
          |---FlashClientStyleLoopup.css
          |---styleLang
Already tried to add / at the beginning of the relative paths but It did not work.
Also tried to compile one of the image to a swc file and include it on the dump_config, but also did not work. something similar with Tech Diary: Flex : Solution to Error: unable to resolve '/assets/icons/icon.png' for transcoding using Embed tag
Does anyone know how flex builder resolve the relative path to make the embedded resources work? or how to fix this?
I've been trying to work on it for days but haven't had any luck.
Will be really appreciate it if someone could help me with this.
    Many Thanks.

    Hi,
make sure you are using 32 bit Java JDK. Check that your systems variables CLASSPATH, JAVA_HOME are pointing to correct 32 bit Java JDK folder (e.g. CLASSPATH=C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.8.0_25 and JAVA_HOME=C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.8.0_25). Also make sure you have 32 bit Java JDK's "bin" folder in your system's variable PATH.

  • New to programming. Should I use Flash Builder 4.6 to create CRUD interface to MySQL?

Having just acquired Creative Cloud subscription, I see that I have access to Flash Builder 4.6 Premium. I haven't figured out yet if I will eventually have access to Flash Builder 4.6 for PHP when / if it is released.
I am relatively new to programming. I want to create a desktop application, perhaps a web application, to manage a MySQL database. I am not, at this time, concerned with mobile applications. I'm primarily interested in just managing the MySQL data -- CRUD (create, read, update, delete) operations.
Hopefully I've provided enough context. My question concerns whether learning Flash Builder 4.6 and Flex programming is an appropriate choice. Alternatively, I could just focus on learning basic PHP programming or perhaps learning to use one of the PHP frameworks (CakePHP, CodeIgniter, or Zend). It seems like learning these frameworks will take time as well, so I don't know where I should begin.
I would really value your perspective. Are the Flash Builder related technologies here to stay? Is Flash Builder primarily suitable for mobile applications (rather than desktop or web)? Would it be more or less difficult to learn Flash Builder and Flex than PHP and one of the PHP frameworks with a view to building a MySQL CRUD application?
Thank you, so very much -- for your time and expertise.
    Kevin

    Kevin,
I am a big fan of Flash Builder.  You can build great desktop web applications as well desktop applications that run on AIR (installs locally to the desktop).
I found it easier to pick up Flex (now Flash Builder) primarily due to the resources (Learn Flex in a week video tutorials http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/videotraining.html ) as well as a big developer community that posts a lot of how to's and walk throughs.  In my personal opinion, I think the power of Flash Builder/Flex framework is the ability to create what traditionally was seen as desktop apps within your web browser.  If you're looking to create a basic crud interface, skipping Flash Builder and just doing it in PHP may be the way to go.  If you're looking to add visualizations (ie graphs, charts) or highly interactive user interface to it then Flash Builder would be a good way to go (though keep in mind that you will still need PHP (or some other server side application layer like coldfusion) to interface with your mysql database  but Flash Builder's dataservices creates some sample php classes for you to handle CRUD using Zend).    There's lots of amazing things you can do with Flash Builder.  I'd recommend checking out some of the samples from Tour de Flex to get a sense of what can be done with Flash Builder.
A couple of notes though - You can build and package native mobile apps with Flash Builder but if you're looking to create web apps for devices like iphone and ipads, Flash Builder isn't the solution since it compiles web based apps to Flash and we all know how idevices don't play nicely with Flash.

  • Can i tell Yaourt to just build packages?

I'd like yaourt to just build my packages, but not install them and i'd like this to happens without user interaction.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks.

What I do in my build automation script is essentially:
    cd ~/builds && yaourt -G $packagename && cd $packagename && sudo $makechrootpkghelper
The problem with trying to automate things with makepkg or a makepkg wrapper, is that to install the needed dependencies, you need root permissions, but you shouldn't run makepkg as root, as the PKGBUILD may be malicious. The helperscripts in devtools build packages in clean chroots, so you don't need to worry about fecking up your install, just give your build user NOPASSWD sudo access for that command.
My script still has problems with pkgbase PKGBUILDs, though that's more due to my laziness than anything, yaourt has logic to get around it, so it must be possible.

  • How to configure Cisco Airespace in Cisco Secure ACS v5.3

Need some help regarding Cisco Airespace configuration in Cisco Secure ACS v5.3. We're migrating to ACS v5.3 but we're encountering an issue with
Cisco Airespace. It is only working on ACS4.1 but when we tried to move it to Cisco Secure ACS v5.3, it is not working.

Ok, we have a legacy Cisco wireless devices called Cisco Airespace and this device is the result of Cisco acquisition of Airespace Wireless Network in 2005. Cisco improve this technology and make it a perfect device for WLAN. Going back to my issue, as I mention we have this device and it is working in our older version of ACS (4.x). Since we have now a latest version of ACS which is 5.3. We wanted to migrate all the device into our latest version of ACS including older version (Airespace). Since this is an older device, I'm thinking that the VSA attributes needs to manually added and create Policy and Access Service specific to Cisco Airespace. I've attached the Dictionaries attributed that I've added and needs some advise if I got the correct value for below item
    Airespace-WLAN-Id
    Airespace-QoS-Level
    Airespace-DSCP
    Airespace-802.1p-Tag
    Airespace-Interface-Name
    Airespace-ACL-Name

  • Installing both Vision Builder 2012 and LabView 2012 on same Computer

am new to NI Vision Builder Automation Inspection 2012 (Which I am supposed to learn and use for part inspection) as well as LabView (Which I need not know at this time)
When I was presented (to work with) a 1722 Camera and the computer, Labview 2012 was already installed but not Vision Builder.
The IT folks installed the Vision builder without uninstalling LabView.
I have my problems getting upto speed with my inspection work, but is any of it attributed to both systems being on the computer?
Can I (Must I) uninstall LaView??
    Thanks

LabVIEW and Vision Builder run fine on the same computer.  I have several versions of each on mine with no problems.
