Cisco Cat. 2960 switch to SF 302-08MP

I am trying to get the VLANS in our company network to work in the SF-302 switch. I set a port in the 2960 to "switchport mode trunk"
and cannot get any vlans except default vlan 1 to work in the SF-302. I understand that VTP is not available in the 302 but if VTP is set to transparent mode in the 2960.. is there not a way to make the 302 usuable with all the other vlans? It has the latest firmware 1.2.9.44.
Should I turn on GVRP in the SF-302 or will that cause grief with my other Cisco VTP switches?

Hi Tim, you need to configure each vlan to the port of the SF300- example
config t
vlan database
vlan 2-5
interface fa01
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk native vlan 1
switchport trunk allowed vlan add 2-5
This will allow all vlan on the SF300 to trunk to the 2960. Of course this is just an example. If you need specifics, let me know.

Hi Guys,
I have assigned int gi3/45 on my Cisco 4500 CAT switch as the monitoring port as source and gi3/47 as the destination.
I see this:
GigabitEthernet3/45 is up, line protocol is down (monitoring)
but on the destination port both are up, interface up and line protocol up.
is this natural? I have executed the no shutdown on gi3/45 but it still says down!
is this normal? or there is a problem? i have monitoring on my edge switch CAT 3560 but both are saying UP/UP, shouldn't this be the same since both swithces are running Cisco IOS.

this interface (g 3/45) is the destination, it says so "monitoring", it normal for the "destination" or "monitoring" port to be up/down coz it's not sending or receiving traffic destined to it, only the mirrored packets from the source port. can you post the "show monitor session #"?

Switch cisco catalys 2960

Hi all,
I have some problems involved Cisco Catalyst 2960 Switch.
I am using a device which includes Marvell PHY chip 88E1111. The device can send and receive PTP packet to and from my PC.
Now, I want to connect the device and the PC to Cisco Catalyst 2960 Switch, which will help me trace all of packets in the network . The test scenario is below:
-          Switch: Cisco Catalyst 2960
-          Tracer: Wireshark software
-          PC: Windows 7-64 bit, plugging in Switch port 1 (interface 1)
-          Device: FPGA board, plugging in Switch port 2 (interface 2),
operating mode: 1000Mbps, Fullduplex, no auto-negotiation, no auto power efficient-ethernet.
-          Interface 2 of the Switch is static set by the device’s MAC
address , which ensures the Switch known the device’s MAC.
I suffered a problem. Although the RJ45 TX status led are on, there is not any packet sent to the Switch. I have no idea in this case.
Could you give me an advise please.

It means the IOS used is corrupt.
Go to the Cisco website and download again the IOS. Once download is complete, compare the MD5 hash value of the file downloaded against the MD5 hash value found in the Cisco website.

Cisco Cat 500 Express deficiency

I have heared complaints about the Cisco Cat 500 switch.
When using the Cat 500 with AP1200 and 7920 IP phones, the phones do not roam from AP to AP.
Also I have found out that the Cat 500 will not relay dhcp request to a server on a seperate vlan from it's configured ip address.
With CLI switches, the "ip helper-address under the vlan will acheive this. With the Cat 500, how do u acheive directed broadcast.
Looks like this switch is not very good. The smartports do not work very well, you will find that choosing "other" as a smartport fixes most connectivity issues.
Cisco your comments?

The Cat 500 Express is a Layer 2 switch - like the older model switches, it has a single SVI which is in one VLAN.
If you have more than one VLAN, then you will probably have a device that routes between them (this won't be a Cat 500 - it would be a Cat 3xxx layer three switch or a router most likely) and this device would be what provides Ip-helper functionality...

Calculate? Calculate for wirespeed/line-rate? If the latter, take all the port bandwidths, and assuming they are duplex, double for necessary fabric bandwidth. I.e. 48 gig ports would need a 96 Gbps fabric. Take all your port bandwidths, and allow 1.448 Mpps per gig (for minimum size Ethernet packets), i.e. 48 gig ports would need 69.5 Mpps. Once you have required fabric bandwidth and PPS, you can compare to vendor's specs.

There aren't any public utilities in the Cisco website that provides you with a bug study.

Correct. Upgrade using the command "archive download-sw" instead copying the BIN files.
After doing above task, I connect all stack cable and power cord as you said, and then the new switch can be synchronized with the MASTER switch. right??
Correct. The new switch should NOT have any configuration. This includes VLAN.dat file.

We have two failed switches and asked for replacement from our supplier.
Time for you to talk to your supplier. Cisco has announced the EoS/EoL for the 2960S back in November 2014 (End-of-Sale and End-of-Life Announcement for the Cisco Catalyst 2960-S Series and 2960-SF Series Switches). However, this only means the date of November 2014 is just a date of announcement. The final date of sale for the 2960S is November 2015.
I think your supplier either is getting confused (didn't read the announcement properly or didn't know) or is just looking for ways to make more money.
is there a possibility for conflict with the existing 2960s Switches?
You can form a stack of 2960S and 2960X. Just know the limitations, and they are:
1. The entire stack must have the same IOS versions;
2. The stack speed will drop from 20 Gbps (2960X) to 10 Gbps because 2960S has been set to run only at this speed; and
3. You cannot have five or more in a stack if you have a 2960S as a member of the stack.

Cisco WS-2960S-48TS-L does not work after firmware update

Hello.
After purchasing the Cisco WS-2960S-48TS-L decided to do a firmware upgrade using the CISCO NETWORK ASSISTANT. Unfortunately update failed. Currently the switch when you run can not load the system image.
Since up to now I had to deal with the other switches do not really know how to upload the correct image now. The more that you connect the switch through the console acts as to a limited extent.

It is true that I was struggling because of usbflash latest iso system also did not want to go, but I recorded version of one lower and went.
By the way, I learned that the USB must be formatted to FAT file system.

Can not administer Catalyst 2960 switch via console

Hello,
I want to configure my switch via console cable, the switch boots up normally, and there are no configurations present on the switch. However, anything I type does not appear on the terminal client. I used several terminal clients (TeraTerm, PuTTY, HyperTerminal), all latest versions as well as different PCs. I even forced the switch to rommon mode, still, anything I type does not appear on the terminal client.

After the last line, I can not type any command at all. I encountered this on three 2960 switches that we have here in our laboratory. Can anybody help me on how I can get access to the switch via console?

Have You Check your console Cable.

If u are using USB to Serial check driver are properly installed.
