Cisco catalyst 2950 12.1 (22)EA4 not connecting to router

I shipped a newly configured cisco 2950 switch and walked a individual through connecting switch to uplink port to router. When the user connects cable from Dlink to port1 on switch we get no activity light on port 1. I went into switch by having crossover cable connected from new switch to old switch and change port speed and duplex and still have the same problem. User is utilizing a cat5 cable that worked on old switch. Any ideas?

Hi
you can check the status of the ports on the switch with the 'show interface fa 0/x' command.
You should see something like this if the port and cable are Ok:
#show interfaces fastEthernet 5/2
FastEthernet5/2 is up, line protocol is up (connected)
Hardware is C6k 100Mb 802.3, address is 000d.28b7.fd09 (bia 000d.28b7.fd09)
Description:
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 100000 Kbit, DLY 100 usec,
reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255
Encapsulation ARPA, loopback not set
Full-duplex, 100Mb/s
HTH.

  • Cisco Catalyst 2950/2960/3750 Multicast Traffic Preference

    Hello all,
we, as a student company act as an ISP for university dormitories. We would like to (if it's possible) deploy QoS to prefer multicast traffic over all other types of traffic.
    Devices used in network:
Acces layer: Cisco Catalyst 2950,  12.1(22)EA14
Dristribution layer: Cisco Catalyst 2960G, 12.2(58)SE1
Core layer: Cisco Catalyst 3750G, 12.2(52)SE
Do you see any possibility to solve this with these devices? We have almost no experience with QoS, therefore any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Hmm, I think it should be doable although the 2950s, if non-E variants, are especially weak in QoS features.  I.e. those might create some issues.
With the 2960G and 3750G, you often will create problems when you enable QoS because QoS, by default, allocates its buffers resources for 4 egress queues per port rather than using all for 1 egress queue per port.  However, this can be countered by QoS parameter tuning, but that takes some QoS expertize to match to your traffic and your overall QoS policy.

  • DHCP on Cisco Catalyst 2950 Switch

    Hello
I need to configure my cisco catalyst 2950 series switch in order to act as DHCP server for devices connected to its ports.
Please say me, how to do that ?
    Thank you
    Narek

Please find the sample DHCP configuration for one of the VLANs.
    Interface Vlan1
    description Cisco DHCP
    ip address 10.10.2.1 255.255.255.0
    ip dhcp pool cisco
    network 10.10.2.0 255.255.255.0
    default-router 10.10.2.1
    domain-name mydomain.com
    dns-server 10.10.2.10
    netbios-name-server 10.10.2.15
    lease 7
A 24 hour lease is the default if left out and the netbios-name-server is WINS in the Windows world.
If you want to use DHCP server for other VLANs as well create similar DHCP pools and assign the DG to the corresponding VLAN interface IP.
    HTH, rate if it does

  • Bought a new Ipod touch and the WiFi does not connect.  Tried Reset and total Restore, does not connect to Router on DHCP, tried Static manually and still can not get it to connect even though it registers as connected.

Bought a new Ipod touch and the WiFi does not connect.  Tried Reset and total Restore, does not connect to Router on DHCP, tried Static IP, Subnet, Router and DNS manually and still can not get it to connect even though it registers as connected.  Using Airport for router, latest firmware, no problems with Iphone 4 or Macbook Pro or any other internet devices.  After total Restore (factory settings) tried again, showed connected to router, but does not display "check" next to router but little rotating icon even though the wifi range signal shows connected at full strength and it says it is connected.  Just can't seem to get it to generate an IP.  Any solutions other than turning it on and off again?  Not a Merry Christmas morning.

Ok, so, a couple of things:  Denisefromwaleska and I have the exact same size/type/color iPod.  Now wishing I'd bought the black one maybe...
Second, Airport is an Express and I have a second one that I carry with me when I travel.  Tried to connect my Airport Express to the internet and could not although the iPod did recognize the router and tried to connect to the internet for some time, unlike my previous problem.  Updated firmware on my travel router, still could not connect to the internet.  Going to try to set up a manual Static IP on the travel router here in a few and conect through it although I predict the problem will persist. Back on the Christmas Present Airport Express router, it is back in play and working fine for all devices save the iPod.
Thanks again for all your help, hopefully I can get a solution in place soon,

  • HP Officejet 8500A Plus will not connect to router.

A couple month ago I had this printer up and running on my network fine. I use a Cradlepoint MBR1200B router with a Verizon wireless aircard. We took the printer out of the office while we were remodeling, we went to go back and hook it up after the remodel was complete. Now it will not connect back to our router. It's weird the printer will connect fine to my other verizon hotspot, but not the cradlepoint router with usb modem. We have an Officejet 6500 upstairs that is connected to the cradlepoint and is working great.
I have tried what seems like everything from resetting the network setttings on the printer to default and tweaking the security on the cradlepoint from WPA2 to WPA/WPA2. Still nothing.
Also when I choose to print a test report after getting the error on the printer it prints out a sheet that says.
"More that one access poiint/wireless rougter has been foun that mathes your wireless network name (SSID). IF this is not inteded, your HP printer may connect to the wrong wireless network. If you cahne your network name you will need to configure the SSID on all wireless devices to match you new newwork SSID."
The only wireless network we have in the house is the cradlepoint router???? We have the hotspot too, but that is not even turned on. Even so the SSID's for them are not even remoteley similar.

    Hello Fost325,
Take a look at this document, which provides wireless and network troubleshooting scenario's.  Please let me know if this helps.
    Good luck!

  • HP Officejet once was set up wireless, and worked, after one month, it will not connect to router?

I have been working with this new HP all in one wireless printer, and was working great, then one day out of the blue it stopped. I can't print out a thing, and when checking on why it stopped, it first printed out that it was not connected to the radio connection, which I thought was Bogus, then after working on it a little more, I went to the wps on the router and held down the WPS, as was requested for 3 seconds, but when I returned to the printer, it all looked as though it was downloading until it got down to 7 seconds, then it stopped and refuses to connect to the router. Does Anyone have any Ideas on how to fix this issue or, tell me what I maybe doing wrong???? This is Now driving me insane. I am connected to an HP Computor, it appears that the router maybe the problem, so I need HELPPPPPPPPPPPPP! Please, thank's to anyone who can suggest the right fix for this printer.

    Hello thesuperdude,
Welcome to the HP Support forums.  I gather that you have run into several issues with your Officejet printer since you received an error about the radio connection.
To better understand the issue, please provide some further information:
What make/model/product number of HP printer do you have? Guide to finding your product number
How is the printer connected now (USB cable, ethernet, or wireless)?
Are you getting any error messages? If yes, what is the error message and where are they being displayed?
Is the printer plugged directly into a wall outlet?
What operating system are you using on your computer (Windows 7, Mac 10.8, or Windows 8, etc)?
Have you installed the full feature software and driver onto your computer?
    Thank you.

  • WRT54GS v6 -- Can not connect trough router.

I bought this router two weeks ago. I set it up and it was working, only had a small problem since my router was sitting on my speaker base but it has been working fine.
This morning I turned on my PSP to play Medal of Honnor online and my connection was working fine, however when I came back home this afternoon I tried to connect to the EA servers via my PSP but I could not connect. So I came on the computer I to see if I could fix it.
I checked the router: my WLAN, 1 and internet lights were lit as usual. I opened the Linksys EasyLink Advisor and when it was scanning to check my network two warning windows from Norton popped up and told me they had blocked a attempt to connect from my own IP adress. I tried to put my own IP Adress, on the auto-block exclude list, since that is from where it said that I was being accessed from but to no success.I still got the two Norton Warnings that popped up so I disabled Norton completely and tried to start the advisor again, it scanned my network but it said that it found no routers and I could not connect to the internet. Then I connected my internet line directly to the modem and it works now, however whenever I try going trough my router I still get a no connection error.
I have no idea why the router started acting like this. Any help would be great.Message Edited by Thy_Sens_Fan on 03-13-200708:29 PM

yes Frunple is right .. norton may be blocking the connection with the router...so disable the firewall or else try a different computer if possible...check the ip add u get..try to ping the router's ip add i.e 192.168.1.1 . if everything seems to be OK , try accessing the router using http://192.168.1.1 . Logon to the ui and check the firmware on it....it should be 1.52.0 .. if no click here and download the latest firmware ...

  • Ipad will not connect netgear router, even with encryption disabled

Evening everyone, I own a first generation iPad which I got at the beginning of this year, and up until 2 days ago, everything was working fine.
I have Netgear router issued by Sky which I have owned for a few years and I have owned an iPhone 3GS and I am now onto my iPhone 4, along with 2nd generation apple TV alongside my iPad.
On tuesday, my iPad stopped connecting to the internet over wifi. I have entered the password for the network, I have restored my iPad, and I have also disabled the encryption and still it will not connect.
Now last night, I manually entered details under the Static section near DHCP and suddenly it worked. I have also been to visit the Apple store at the Trafford Centre this evening and simply got told it must be something to do with my router. yet I am at a loss as to why my iPhone 4 works with no problems, as Steve Jobs says, "it just works" yet my iPad doesnt.
Can anyone help me on this one????

Thank you very much, I have now reset the router after logging in and seeing all my other devices working fine. Everything is now working, just totally surprises me that my iPhone, laptop, my mums laptop, my apple tv box would all still connect and work no problem at all.
Can anyone answer as to why this sort of things happen with routers????? My line of thinking would be that if one product can't connect, then surely the others wouldn't be able to either???. I may be totally way off beam, but this is an area where I have little knowledge.

  • Re 1000 will not connect to router

Don't know if anyone else is having this problem but just wanted to put it out here.
When I try linking my re1000 to my router  (linksys wrt54gs running dd-wrt v.24) using "wpa2 personal" security mode, it will not connect.  The status screen on the re 1000 shows it being "down."
I've found I can get it to connect to my ssid and have internet access by changing my security mode to wpa though.  It would be nice to be able to use the more secure wpa2 considering it will be used in a professional environment.

Is there a reason why you're using dd-wrt firmware? If using the official firmware for the router suits your needs, try loading that to see if it works.

  • RPS and Cisco Catalyst 2950 and 3550 switches

We are doing experiments with RPS and CC 2950 and 3550. When we unplug the main power, the RPS takes over and feeds the switch with power. But when we plug the main power back again, the switch contiues to take power from the RPS. How is the power reduncancy achieved with CC 2950 and/or 3550s?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dardan

You will need to press the active/standby button on the RPS for the internal power supply in the switch to take over. Note that this can cause the switch to reload and do it in your maintenance window if this switch is in production.

  • IPhone not connecting to Router

    Hi
I finally got my iPhone this week and have had it connecting to 3 different WAP's at work (cisco, linksys and 3com).
At home I have a linksys wag354g modem router which the phone detects but says Unable to join the network.
The linksys runs my two pc's fine through wireless with no security apart from Mac address filtering. I have added the iphone to the mac list.
    My router is using:
    Ip Address 192.168.1.1 (PC 192.168.1.65)
    Subnet 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway 192.168.1.1
    DHCP Server 192.268.1.1
    DNS Servers 194.74.65.69, 194.72.9.34 and 192.168.1.1
I have tried combining these settings on the iphone using various Ip addresses in the range and the different dns servers.
    Please help!
    James

Hmm. I'd still say this is a router issue.
Use WPA-PSK secutiry if you can not WEP.
    Also
When you try and access the network from the iPhone are both your PCs already on the network? If so try making sure they are both turned off. There are a few posts on the web about issues with mutliple connections and this router.
See http://www.expansys.com/ft.aspx?k=64171 which suggests you need to set static IP addresses to overcome these problems.

  • My cloud will not connect to Router

I just purchased the 4tb My Cloud and cannot connect it via my Pace 1568nv router. There is no link lights on the My Cloud, i have tried multiple Cat cables. The same cables work when i connect the same wires directly to my PC.  For some reason my router will not recognize the My Cloud.  Any suggestions?

@ aerobatix31   asked  "What exactly was your resolution with your Pace? You were able to keep DHCP settings as defaulted in the router and MC? "
I inadvertently mislead you to the assumption that I had the same router as you, my apologies. I have an Actiontec router used in Verizon FiOS for my home. I did keep the DHCP settings. If this is an ATT router they might have hidden many functions as did Verizon on my router. I actually decided prior to installing WD MC to purchase a 10/100/1000 switch to hard wire my computers directly rather than messing with Verizon and their heavy handed policies. Did you attempt to connect your computer to the port on the router that MC wouldn't work on? You may simply have a bad port on the router.

  • Wep password not connecting to router

I have a Powerbook G4 12" running OSX 10.4.11. I usually have no problems connecting to wireless routers. I am currently in Europe and the place I am staying at has a wireless router through ADSL network and I can pick it up on my wireless menu and the password they gave me is good. It works for their Windows laptops without any problems, but when I connect I get a message of Unable to connect. I read on another forums to try and put a $ in front of the password and that did not work either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • IPhone 4G will not connect to router when SSID is not broadcasting

I was able to setup my WiFi connection for the iPhone using WPA2 Security and MAC address filtering. But when I disable SSID Broadcasting on my router, the iPhone does not see the network. If I broadcast the SSID on the router then the iPhone will connect automatically.
I have an iPad that automatically connects to the network when the SSID is not being broadcasted on the router. Why can't the iPhone connect to a saved network that is not being broadcasted? Every other device including the iPad can connect to the router when the SSID Broadcast is disabled.

Oridnarily, any equipment should not see the network when SSID disabled, since the router is not broadcasting its SSID. So you have you to connect to it manually if and only if you know the SSID (part of little added security) and the password.
However, when you connect that SSID becomes visible (if someone is sniffing) since the client (your phone) has broadcasted the SSID. Only a dedicated network sniffer can see the network without SSID (it will look like NULL string) but obviosuly cannot connect without SSID and password.
I have similar setup with LINKSYS WRT160N and there is no need to reboot the router. I noticed that when the Iphone goes to sleep it forgets the network and I have to enter everything all over again. However, this is not the case on my other WM phone. My Nintendo WII will remember it as long as it is not switched off, then I will have to enter the credentials all over again.
The fact that it connected with previous router, suggest to me that the router was still broadcasting where it should not. Thats is the whole idea of disbaling SSID, not to let other others see your network (except sniffers). If they do, it will be with no name.

    Hi whittydaz,
Thanks for posting onto the Forum,
It's not good to see that you are having trouble connecting to the Sky Router with your wireless devices. Can you please tell me if you are able to connect to a device wired at all? What lights are appearing on your Sky router at the moment?
Have you reset your Sky Router by pressing and holding the button on the back of the router for longer than 30 seconds?
Please let me know the answer to these questions and hopefully we can get to the bottom of this
