Cisco Catalyst 2960X-48FPD-L Whit SFP+ 10GB

Hello!!
Can i use 10Gb Link between a Cisco Catalyst 6500 whit a Cisco Catalyst 6900 Series 8-Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet Fiber Module (WS-X6908-10G-2T) card and 10GBASE-SR X2 Fiber port, and . And in the other side use a Cisco Catalyst 2960X-48FPD-L (have two SFP+ bays) whit SFP-10G-SR=  (multimode fiber)
this solutions works???
another question:
WS-X6908-10G-2T card   comes equipped with DFC4. What mean that? requiere another slot in a 6500 chassis??
thanks

Hi,

Answer: No DFC4 is the sub-module which would sit on the line card WS-X6908-10G-2T. It doesnt require any spare slot.
WS-X6908-10G-2T: comes equipped with DFC4 for distributed forwarding, supporting 256K forwarding entries, increased ACL entries to 64K, increased Netflow entries to 512K, and increased IPv4 forwarding speed to 60 Mpps

  • Cisco Catalyst 2960X-24PS-L - Management Issues

I am having issues connecting to the new Cisco Catalyst 2960X-24PS-L switches via USB.
I am successfully connecting from the same PC to Cisco 2960C series and Cisco 2960S switches, but the 2960X switches aren't always working.
    Any hints?
    Matt

So I was able to get it working:
Updated to latest version of Putty, connected something to a switch port and then made sure flow control was off.
A bit different than the older switches.

All Catalyst 2960-X Series Switches use a single Universal Cisco IOS Software Image for all SKUs.Cisco Catalyst 2960-X Family of Switches are available with the LAN Base and LAN Lite feature sets.

If you buy the LAN Base model, you'll have all of Cisco's normal switching features and options. My company has purchased many of these switches, and they work very well. Remember, these are access layer switches. If you're looking for something to be an aggregate switch for things that push a lot more data (ex. several wireless controllers), you'll want to go for something more powerful.

  • Cisco Catalyst 2960-X and Cisco Prime compatibility

    Hello All,
I had review all the compatibility matrix of versions of Cisco Prime 1.2, 1.4 and 2.0, and just can't find the Cisco Catalyst 2960-X series as a listed device, which really surprises me.
    Can you clear that out??
    Thanks,

  • Unable to connect a Netapp San to a Cisco Catalyst in 10Gb

I have a Cisco Catalyst 4507R with a WS-X4606-X2-E and X2-10GB-SR to be connected to a Netapp SAN and it does not work.
With show interface transceiver detail it seems that the power sent by netapp is good but the link stay in dwon down state
    Any help?

down/down is related to layer 1 issue. Make sure the SFP is correct on both ends (and same type: LR vs SR) and also make sure you are using the right fiber. You can loop back on the same catalyst both sfps with the cable to see if the link comes up.

  • Does the Catalyst 2960x-48TD support Cisco's IGMP Snooping MIB?

Does the Catalyst 2960x-48TD support Cisco's IGMP Snooping MIB?  We have a number of switches from different vendors and have recently begun switching to Cisco's, however unlike the other brands I am unable to audit the IGMP Snooping settings via SNMP.  It appears that while the switch supports IGMP Snooping it does not support the CISCO MIB for IGMP Snooping.  Is this a known bug and is it fixed in any of the later releases?
Our company is purchasing and deploying C2960X-48TD's and I am tasked with updating our system audit software

    Hi Sean,
Nov 21 15:40:42.390: %MCAST-SPSTBY-6-ETRACK_STATS_LIMIT_EXCEEDED: Number of entries in IGMP snooping explicit-tracking statistics has exceeded the maximum limit (32000)
The above log message is written because the number of explicit-tracking statistics entries is bounded to avoid monopolizing of system resources by IGMP/MLD snooping. The explicit-tracking statistics database maximum size is set to the same as that of explicit-tracking limit.
The statistics are split into two banks: permanent and volatile. The statistics entries will be stored permanently (volatile) until the permanent entries threshold is reached, after which the statistics will be stored temporarily up to the database maximum size. When the size of the database exceeds the permanent threshold, a group will be removed on receiving an IGMP/MLD leave. Groups can be removed whether they were installed above or below the permanent threshold. If the number of statistics entries grows beyond the maximum size of the database, then no statistics will be stored for any newly formed groups.
You can disable ip igmp snooping explicit-tracking by the following
    1) Configure "no ip igmp snooping explicit-tracking"
    2) Configure "ip igmp snooping limit track 0" on global.
    3) After ET is disabled, please do a "clear ip igmp snooping statistics".

  • UCS C240 M4 with Cisco UCS VIC1227 VIC MLOM - Dual Port 10Gb SFP+

    Hi All,
Have a few UCS C-series questions:
If I have a UCS C240 M4 rack server with Cisco UCS VIC1227 VIC MLOM - Dual Port 10Gb SFP+, but do not have fabric interconnect(s), I cannot use the UCS VIC1227 for anything, can I? The VIC ports HAVE to be connected to the FI(s) in order to be integrated with the UCS Manager. There is no local UCS manager software running on the server itself, is there?
It is useless to have this card in the server without the FI(s), isn’t it?
The OS that is going to be installed on the server is not going to see those 10GB ports on the VIC, isn’t it?
And if there are no additional PCIe NICs installed in the server, I am stuck with the two 1GB onboard NICs, is that correct?
    Any input is appreciated.

do not have fabric interconnect(s), I cannot use the UCS VIC1227 for anything, can I?
The VIC 1227 can be used to integrate the server with UCSM, but that does NOT mean that is its unique function... the VIC 1227 is a CNA card that can be used whether your server is in standalone mode (no Fabric Interconnects) or integrated with UCSM.
If the server is not connected to a Fabric Interconnect (FI), it still has CIMC (Cisco Integrated Management  Controller) which can be configured by attaching a monitor to the server and a keyboard, press F8 when you see the Cisco logo and then you can configure the IP, subnet, gateway, NIC mode and others... this may help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHQBvwO7pUU

It is useless to have this card in the server without the FI(s), isn’t it?
It is NOT useless to have the card in the server without the FIs, having the servers integrated only allows you to take advantage of the flexibility of Service Profiles but the VIC card still has the same capabilities whether you have an FI or not.
The OS that is going to be installed on the server is not going to see those 10GB ports on the VIC, isn’t it?
    See above
And if there are no additional PCIe NICs installed in the server, I am stuck with the two 1GB onboard NICs, is that correct?
    Same answer as above

    Hello,
I've Upgraded Prime Infrastructure to Version 2.2.0.0.158. Now our Catalyst 2960X-24TS-LL switches show an error message, when they are added to the inventory. The error is as follows:
Partial Collection Failure; Collection Status : Failed feature(s).
The 2960X-24TS-LL is listed under the supported devices list and other switches (e.g. WS-C2960X-48FPS-L) got inventorized without any problems.
Did anybody see this issue and can tell me how to solve it.

     - Getting that one too, since running 2.2 (Failed Features) ; suggest opening a TAC case.

  • Connection of LC/APC fiber patch cords to Cisco Catalyst 6500 $ Cisco Access 3750 Switches

I have an LC/APC fiber patch cord infrastructure and I want to connect it to Cisco Catalyst 6500 & Cisco Access 3750 Switches. what type of transceiver should be used?
I read a note on Cisco website stating the following for Cisco SFP+ transceivers:
Note: "Only connections with patch cords with PC or UPC connectors are supported. Patch cords with APC connectors are not supported. All cables and cable assemblies used must be compliant with the standards specified in the standards section"

Thank you,  but my question is that I have a single mode fiber patch cord with LC/APC connector while cisco stating a note that only use LC/PC or LC/UPC type of connectors with SFP+ transceiver.
So what type of transceiver should I use to connect LC/APC patch cord to cisco switches?  Is there another type or SFP+ still can be used?

Could anyone please point me in the right direction?

  • Blocked Stack Ports on 2960X-48FPD-L Stack (Unstable Switch Stack!) Spanning Tree?

I am having an issue where 2 2960X-48FPD-L Switches in a redundant flexstack (stack port 1 SW1 to port  2 SW2 and port 2 SW1 to port 1 SW2) ring.
At first running the 15.0(2).EX5 (and earlier EX3, and EX4) version IOS yielded all the ports on the stack master switch refusing to run spanning tree and would only link in amber and not pass any traffic other than CDP information (the slave switch linked in fine).
I upgraded to 15.2(3)E and this solved the problem of the ports not linking in green and participating in spanning tree.
Now, however, about every week or two I lose connectivity to the switch stack and I was able to go to the switch stack locally and found that for some reason the switch stack is blocking and unblocking VLANs on StackPort1 frequently (see below).  When I was at the site, I sometimes had connectivity, sometimes not.  A stack hard reboot brought everything back up, but this is the second time this has occurred and I would expect the same problem in the next week or so.
Has anyone else run into these issues, and have you found a solution?
I'm guessing that if I either get rid of the redundancy on the switch stack or stack using Ethernet cables between switches the problem will go away, but then what is the point of using stackable switches in a non redundant low speed stack.  It seems to me that Spanning tree thinks that I have a spanning tree loop going on with the stack ports which I didn't even think was possible.
    What do you think?

    Jim,
We have also the same problem with our 2960-X switches (access) connecting to a pair of 4500x (VSS) except our issue is with Portchannel with 2 physical links connecting the 2960xs to the 4500.
If we disconnect one of the physical links from the portchannel everything works fine, but when we connect the same physical link back all users lose connectivity and the physical link starts flapping. Here are some of the messages we see in the logs when both physical links are in the portchannel:
Mar 10 18:00:43 EST: %SPANTREE-2-RECV_PVID_ERR: Received BPDU with inconsistent peer vlan id 1 on Port-channel5 VLAN90.
    Mar 10 18:00:43 EST: %SPANTREE-2-BLOCK_PVID_PEER: Blocking Port-channel5 on VLAN0001. Inconsistent peer vlan.
    Mar 10 18:00:43 EST: %SPANTREE-2-BLOCK_PVID_LOCAL: Blocking Port-channel5 on VLAN0090. Inconsistent local vlan.
    Mar 10 18:00:58 EST: %SPANTREE-2-UNBLOCK_CONSIST_PORT: Unblocking Port-channel5 on VLAN0001. Port consistency restored.
    Mar 10 18:00:58 EST: %SPANTREE-2-UNBLOCK_CONSIST_PORT: Unblocking Port-channel5 on VLAN0090. Port consistency restored.

Mar 10 18:01:37 EST: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface TenGigabitEthernet1/0/1, changed state to up
Mar 10 18:01:48 EST: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface TenGigabitEthernet1/0/1, changed state to down
Mar 10 18:01:51 EST: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface TenGigabitEthernet1/0/1, changed state to up
We have upgraded to 15.0(2a).EX5 and still have the same issue.
We have a ticket open with Cisco and have sent them all the logs and debugs and waiting to hear back from IOS developers.

  • 2960X-48FPD-L shared 10Gig/1Gig ports dropped connections

I have a Catalyst 6513 at the core.  We cut-over four IDF's last evening.  The typical IDF follows the following model: A 2960X-48FPD-L at the top of stack with one to four 2960X-48FPS-L in each stack.  We are using interface GigabitEthernet 1/0/49 & 1/0/50 (Port-channel) to connect to the 6513 over MMF.  All IDF's were up last night night.  This morning, two IDF's dropped their connections.  We were unable to bring the connections up until we moved the Port-channel to 1Gig interfaces one of the 2960X-48FPS-L switches in the stack.  I am wondering if there are any known issues with the 1Gig/10Gig shared ports on the 2960X-48FPD-L switches?
    Thank you,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
Can you check the logs of either end of the switches.  The logs will show you why the link(s) went down.
Could you also post the output to the command "sh interface <BLAH>" of either side?

What is different between Cisco Catalyst 3750G-24-TS-S 1U and Cisco Catalyst 3750G-24-TS-S 1.5 U, Other than Size( Any other technical difference)

    Hi Kali ,
Size only matters when compare both the switches.
    Cisco Catalyst 3750G-24TS
    24 Ethernet 10/100/1000 ports and 4 SFP ports; 1.5RU
    Cisco Catalyst 3750G-24TS-1U
24 Ethernet 10/100/1000 ports and 4 SFP ports; 1 RU
