Cisco Catalyst 2960X Ethernet Switch

"I want to buy Catalyst 2960-X series switches like WS-C2960X-24PS-L,WS-C2960X-24PD-L, buy I'm not very well know about c2960x series. Can someone help me ?"--from yahoo answer.
All Catalyst 2960-X Series Switches use a single Universal Cisco IOS Software Image for all SKUs.Cisco Catalyst 2960-X Family of Switches are available with the LAN Base and LAN Lite feature sets.
WS-C2960X-24PS-L Overview
Catalyst 2960-X 24 GigE PoE 370W, 4 x 1G SFP, LAN Base Switch
WS-C2960X-24PD-L Overview
Catalyst 2960-X 24 GigE PoE 370W, 2 x 10G SFP+, LAN Base Switch

If you buy the LAN Base model, you'll have all of Cisco's normal switching features and options. My company has purchased many of these switches, and they work very well. Remember, these are access layer switches. If you're looking for something to be an aggregate switch for things that push a lot more data (ex. several wireless controllers), you'll want to go for something more powerful.

Answer: No DFC4 is the sub-module which would sit on the line card WS-X6908-10G-2T. It doesnt require any spare slot.
WS-X6908-10G-2T: comes equipped with DFC4 for distributed forwarding, supporting 256K forwarding entries, increased ACL entries to 64K, increased Netflow entries to 512K, and increased IPv4 forwarding speed to 60 Mpps

  • Cisco Catalyst 2960X-24PS-L - Management Issues

I am having issues connecting to the new Cisco Catalyst 2960X-24PS-L switches via USB.
I am successfully connecting from the same PC to Cisco 2960C series and Cisco 2960S switches, but the 2960X switches aren't always working.
    Any hints?
    Matt

So I was able to get it working:
Updated to latest version of Putty, connected something to a switch port and then made sure flow control was off.
A bit different than the older switches.

  • Cisco Catalyst Express 500 Switch

Any comment about this product? I saw some negetive reply at several forums for this product. I am in puzzle wether to buy this switch or to go for 2960 series which is quite expensive but reliable. I never heard of Catalyst 500 switch.

I wonder if this switch is suitable in a environment where I have approx 90 user's. And I will buy 24 port 3 nos of Catalyst 500 switch. So considering uplinking and traffic, those switches will work smooth?
I am worried about conjugation and other issues like heating. 3COM base line switches over heats. 1 of my 3COM switch started making noise. Probably heat sink fan which is located at back panel is not working probably. I guess bearing is about to get damaged. Anyway.
    I still can't decide. I haven't seen any good
scenario's at Cisco's web site. I guess due to the cheap price, they wont make any advertise of this Switch..Ha !!

  • Alternative switch to Cisco Catalyst 3750v2-24FS and 3750-24FS

I`m looking for an alternative to these two switches:
    1.  WS-C3750V2-24FS-S  Cisco Catalyst 3750V2-24FS Switch with 24 100FX SFP + 2 Gigabit Ethernet SFP Ports
    2. Cisco Catalyst 3750-24FS (WS-C3750-24FS-S 100BASE-FX)
They are now EOL and not available.
I have a campus style network and need to be able to connect multiple 100FX fibre switches back to a central switch. The 1st unit uses 100FX SFP modules and the second has in-built 100FX ports. I`m struggling to find anything from Cisco that will give me multiple (i.e 12+) 100FX ports.
Could anyone please point me in the right direction?
    Many thanks,

    Hi Paul ,
Replacement for both switch is WS-C3650-48TS-S.

  • DHCP on Cisco Catalyst 2950 Switch

    Hello
I need to configure my cisco catalyst 2950 series switch in order to act as DHCP server for devices connected to its ports.
Please say me, how to do that ?
    Thank you
    Narek

Please find the sample DHCP configuration for one of the VLANs.
    Interface Vlan1
    description Cisco DHCP
    ip address 10.10.2.1 255.255.255.0
    ip dhcp pool cisco
    network 10.10.2.0 255.255.255.0

    domain-name mydomain.com
    dns-server 10.10.2.10
    netbios-name-server 10.10.2.15
    lease 7
A 24 hour lease is the default if left out and the netbios-name-server is WINS in the Windows world.
If you want to use DHCP server for other VLANs as well create similar DHCP pools and assign the DG to the corresponding VLAN interface IP.

  • Cisco Catalyst 3750-X or 3560-X Series Switches

Recently, our company was deciding to buy Cisco switches, but they just tell the requirements and I finally focused on two kinds of switches, Cisco Catalyst
3750-X or 3560-XSeries Switches? Who can tell me, tnx in advance.

     As I read a blog recently, it listed the specific differences between Cisco 3750-X and 3560-X, except for the common features of Cisco 3750-X and 3560-X, Cisco 3750-X can also offer-- Cisco StackPower technology: An innovative feature and industry first for sharing power among stack members;
    Cisco StackWise Plus technology for ease of use and resiliency with 64 Gbps of throughput;
Investment protection with backward compatibility with all other models of Cisco Catalyst 3750 Series Switches.
And made a more detailed comparison between the two products, for ur reference.

  • 3750 Metro ethernet switch

    Folks,
I have 6500's at the core and want to use the 3750 at the PE. My question is the following:
    1) 3750 would do Q-IN-Q.
    2) Once the packet reaches the 6500(sup 720) running MPLS. What happens to the frame. Do i use xconnect to transfer the frame to the appropriate PE?
Just confussed about how does the PE use the Q-IN-Q information to direct it to the appropriate PE?
Sample config would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks

Well.. its about product features .. you gotta compare products with your requirments at various layer of your network and to come out with justification of your requirments . Any ways below is snippet for you to have some justification between two products

  • Ask the Expert: Layer 2 Security on Cisco Catalyst Platforms

    With Wilson Bonilla
Welcome to the Cisco Support Community Ask the Expert conversation.  This  is an opportunity to learn and ask questions about about issues in designing, planning, and implementing Layer 2 security in your LAN network with expert Wilson Bonilla.
Wilson will cover topics that network engineers face daily such as Spanning Tree Protocol security, private VLANs, IP source guard, protected ports, dynamic ARP inspection, virtual LAN access-control lists (VLAN ACLs), and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) snooping over Cisco Catalyst platforms.  With the fast growth of networks, Layer 2 security is even more critical in the LAN to help your network become more reliable, efficient, and secure. Wilson will answer your questions about LAN networks with Cisco Catalyst switches.

    Hello NetNavi.
Check the post above about MacSec for more information and let me know if you need further clarification, if so I will do my best,
In regards to best practices there is a Cisco document; it describes deployments and best practices in every scenario; Supplicants, authenticator, authentication services and other configurations. Please check it out:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/iosswrel/ps6537/ps6586/ps6638/deploy_guide_c17-663760.html
    In regards to Private VLANS:
    What is a Private Vlan?
A private Vlan is a way to isolate hosts within the same Vlan or broadcast domain. So even when you might have devices sharing the same broadcast domain they can be isolated, this isolated is configured based on sub-domains also most often called primary and secondary Vlans.
    What is a primary Vlan?
The primary Vlan is representation of the private Vlan, a primary Vlan has one or more secondary Vlans, a switch uses the primary Vlan to present traffic from the secondary Vlans to its neighboring devices.
    What is a secondary Vlan?
A secondary Vlan is a sub-domain of the primary Vlan. We could say that the secondary Vlans belongs to the primary. The must be associated to a primary Vlan. There are two types of secondary vlans: Isolated and Community secondary Vlans.
What does it happen to host within a secondary isolated Vlan?
Host within the isolated vlan; can’t communicate to neither other host in the same isoalted vlan nor host in a community vlan.
What does it happen to host within the secondary community Vlan?
Host within the community Vlan can communicate with other host assigned to the same community vlan, but they can’t talk to host in other community vlans.
What are the benefits of implementing private Vlans?
Scalability: The most common scenario is a service provider. Imagine all customers of a service provider connected through DSL, cable modem… it’s very likely that all customers belong to the same broadcast domain, however if that’s the case why is it that I can’t use my neighbor’s printer, or maybe why is it that I can’t access the files he has store in his computer, (security) we are in the same broadcast shouldn’t I be able to at least ping his ip address?. Well that’s because the ISP must guarantee some type of security for their customers, and because put every single customer that they have in a single Vlan is not scalable they use private Vlans.
    Examples:
ISP use private vlans to protect from security bridges, Private vlans and isolated Vlans are used to protect personal information for example from one customer to another.
DMZ; Many implementations utilizes private vlans in a DMZ to limt or minimize that risk of a compromised server.
I would like to share this documentation with you for further information and configuration guidelines

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.2: Catalyst 2960X-24TS-LL Switch Collection Failure

    Hello,
I've Upgraded Prime Infrastructure to Version 2.2.0.0.158. Now our Catalyst 2960X-24TS-LL switches show an error message, when they are added to the inventory. The error is as follows:
Partial Collection Failure; Collection Status : Failed feature(s).
The 2960X-24TS-LL is listed under the supported devices list and other switches (e.g. WS-C2960X-48FPS-L) got inventorized without any problems.
Did anybody see this issue and can tell me how to solve it.
    - Benjamin

     - Getting that one too, since running 2.2 (Failed Features) ; suggest opening a TAC case.

  • Does the Catalyst 2960x-48TD support Cisco's IGMP Snooping MIB?

Does the Catalyst 2960x-48TD support Cisco's IGMP Snooping MIB?  We have a number of switches from different vendors and have recently begun switching to Cisco's, however unlike the other brands I am unable to audit the IGMP Snooping settings via SNMP.  It appears that while the switch supports IGMP Snooping it does not support the CISCO MIB for IGMP Snooping.  Is this a known bug and is it fixed in any of the later releases?
Our company is purchasing and deploying C2960X-48TD's and I am tasked with updating our system audit software

    Hi Sean,
Nov 21 15:40:42.390: %MCAST-SPSTBY-6-ETRACK_STATS_LIMIT_EXCEEDED: Number of entries in IGMP snooping explicit-tracking statistics has exceeded the maximum limit (32000)
The above log message is written because the number of explicit-tracking statistics entries is bounded to avoid monopolizing of system resources by IGMP/MLD snooping. The explicit-tracking statistics database maximum size is set to the same as that of explicit-tracking limit.
The statistics are split into two banks: permanent and volatile. The statistics entries will be stored permanently (volatile) until the permanent entries threshold is reached, after which the statistics will be stored temporarily up to the database maximum size. When the size of the database exceeds the permanent threshold, a group will be removed on receiving an IGMP/MLD leave. Groups can be removed whether they were installed above or below the permanent threshold. If the number of statistics entries grows beyond the maximum size of the database, then no statistics will be stored for any newly formed groups.
You can disable ip igmp snooping explicit-tracking by the following
    1) Configure "no ip igmp snooping explicit-tracking"
    2) Configure "ip igmp snooping limit track 0" on global.
    3) After ET is disabled, please do a "clear ip igmp snooping statistics".

  • Stacking a non-Cisco Switch with a Catalyst Express 500 switch

We are using a Cisco Catalyst Express 500 Ethernet switch and need to add another switch to get a few more ports. Is is possible to stack a Catalyst Express 500 Ethernet switch with a non-Cisco Ethernet switch. If so, is there any Cisco documentation telling how to do this?

If by stack, you mean connect the two switches via Ethernet ports, yes you should be able to do that. Depending on the port capabilities of the switches, and whether they have any special uplink ports, you might need to use a different Ethernet connecting cable (cross-over vs. straight thru).

  • I cannot connect by console port to Cisco Catalyst 3750 using ethernet to USB.

Hello. I have one Cisco Catalyst 3750 switch, and two 2950 switches. I am trying to reset their settings using a console cable with a trendnet Ethernet to USB adapter. When I try loading hyperterm or putty on com3 there is no signal. I have the communication port setting on com3. I don't know what the old settings are, and they can be reset. I get connectivity lights when plugging the cable into the switch ports. What am I missing?

Are you definitely using the correct COM Port number? On Windows7 Right Click My Computer > Manage Then select Device Manager and expanPorts (COM & LPT)d  in my case is shows Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COM5).
Once you have the right COM Port number just use the default settings in Putty. You may find the COM Port is locked up which will require a reboot.
