CISCO CATALYST 3560 SFP INTERCONNECT CABLE

What is the advantage of using this SFP cable over a 1000BaseT GBIC and daisy chaining the switches together?
Just curious???
Thanks!

The advantage comes down to cost. Whether you can realize this advantage depends on the distance between the two Catalyst 3560 switches.
If the distance is less than or equal to 50cm, then one SFP Interconnect Cable (CAB-SFP-50CM=) at US$250 is a much less expensive way to connect the two switches than two 1000BASE-T SFP (GLC-T=) at US$395 each = US$790 plus a Cat5 or better UTP Gigabit Ethernet crossover cable.
If the distance is greater than 50cm but less than or equal to 100m, then the 1000BASE-T SFPs are your least expensive option. The alternative is MM or SM fiber.
If you have to connect a Catalyst 3560 SFP interface to another Catalyst switch that takes GBICs, then the SFP Interconnect Cable is not even an option. From 0 to 100m, 1000BASE-T SFP and GBIC (WS-G5483=) would be your least expensive way to go.
If there's any chance you will be redeploying these switches somewhere else in the future, you may want to put the 1000BASE-T SFPs in now. That way you'll already have them when you need them later.

  • Cisco Prime LMS 4.1 - Support for Cisco Catalyst 3560-C Series Switches

    Hello together
I have a customer which uses the following switch. Last year I have installed LMS 4.1 for him to manage the switches. Unfortunatly the switch model is not supported. According to the information found on the following site the switch is supported for most of the modules in LMS:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/4.1/device_support/table/lms41sdt.html
The oid object of the device is the following: 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1465
Supported Software: 12.2(55)EX (Customer has 12.2(55)EX3
    Version Support Type: Device Update
So I updated all device updates I was able to find.
Step 1: For that I went to Admin > System > Software Center > Schedule Device Downloads and created a job where I have downloaded the latest versions of all packages.
Step 2: Installed the downloaded packages Admin > System > Software Center > Device Update and installed all the packages.
Unfortunatly I don't see the same result like described in the Supported Device Table for LMS 4.1.
    - Cisco View -> works
    - Inventory and Config Collection -> works
    - Fault Monitor not working -> Error Code Unsupported
    - Network Topology Layer 2 Services -> Device Type ciscoProducts.1465, Symbol Question Mark
    - VLAN Management -> Doesn't work
    - User Tracking > seems also not to work
When I open the report for supported devcies (Reports > System > Device Support) and search for C3560C... I find the following devices, but not mine which i need:
    C3560C-8PC-S     .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1466
    C3560CG8PC         .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1317
    C3560CCG8TC     .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1318
    wsC3560CPD8ptS     .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1368
Does anybody have experience with the same switch type / model? Am I doing something wrong or is this type of switch not implemented correctly till now? Further the docuemntation supported devices would be wrong.
    Thanks for any feedback Erich

Thanks but I just heard back from my Cisco SE and he assures me that an AP will NOT use up a license.
I've asked him to verify his answer for me.
Is your answer based on real world expereince (the best there is)?  That is, are you running Prime LMS 4.1 and does it indeed use up a license for each light-weight AP it discovers & manages?
Thanks for mentioning options 1-3 but I do not wish to employ any of them.  I don't mind buying the additional licenses for APs ... I just need to know if I have to or not.

  • 3560 Interconnect Cable - Port Disabled b/c non-compliant GBIC

I purchased a CAB-SFP-50CM Catalyst Interconnect Cable to connect two 3560s. When the cable is plugged in, I receive the following error in the Cisco Network Assistant:
Description: Gi0/1: This port has been disabled because Non Compliant Gigabit Interface Converter (GBIC) connector detected.
Recomendation: Replace connector with cisco compliant Gigabit Interface Converter (GBIC) connector. Refer switch technical documentation to determine cisco compliant connector. Enable the port again.
Any help? I assumed this would be a "plug and play" installation. Re-enabling the disabled port doesn't seem to help.
    Thanks in advance...

Thanks for the response - this is a Cisco branded cable:
    Manufacturer: CISCO
Description: CATALYST 3560 SFP INTERCONNECT CBL 50CM
    Part Number: CAB-SFP-50CM=
I thought I had done my research...according to the 3560 data sheet
    (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps5528/products_data_sheet09186a00801f3d7d.html)
"These ports also support the Cisco Catalyst 3560 SFP Interconnect Cable for establishing a low-cost Gigabit Ethernet point-to-point connection."
However, it doesn't seem to work. Is it possible that I've got a defective cable, or is there something else that I need to do?
    Thanks again.
Edited to add: the cable I have is pictured in the data sheet (Figure 2) and the switches I am trying to interconnect are model WS-C3560-48PS.

  • Sfp interconnect between 2960 and 3560

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me if the sfp interconnect cable can be used between 2960-48TC-L and a 3560-48PS-E?
    Thanks
    Andy

    in short, YES.
the 3560-48PS-E has the 4 SFP ports.
the 2960-48TC-L has two 'dual purpose' uplinks which can support SFP or copper.
(you can only use one type at a time; not SFP and copper simultaneously)
please see the following links for more info on those two devices:

  • Catalyst 3560 - performance issue

    hello,
could someone provide me with info or link to document about maximum performance rate for routing of WS-C3560-24TS (24 10/100 + 2 Giga SFP) switch with configured desktop routing sdm template. Switch should serve as L2 for traffic coming from some interfaces, and as L3 for traffic coming from some other interfaces. In general, I am interested about info about performance comparison when different sdm templates/scenarios are deployed.

  • Catalyst 3560 and MGBIC

    Hi,
I would like to know if the MGBSX1 and MGBLX1 are compatible with Catalyst 3560 SFP ports (WS-C3560G-24TS). I'm looking to directly connect my fibers to my switch, but I couldn't find out the difference between MGBICs and GLC-LH-SM=, for example. Cause MGBICs are really, really cheaper.
    Thanks,
    Caio.

Yes the MGBIC is cheaper then the GLC-LH.  Although made by the same group of manufacturers Cisco has inserted an IDPROM algorythm to check.  The MGBIC doesn't have this value.
Cisco has put a stop to the enterprising practice of purchasing 3rd party (and cheaper) modules to be used in their equipment and then ring up TAC for issues with it.

  • Link C3850 to Dell 8132F Using SFP Interconnect (copper)

I am introducing new Cisco C3850 switches into an existing Dell environment. This will be a phased replacement so I have a need to link the 3850's to Dell 8132F's. My 3850's each have a C3850-NM-4-10G network module and the Dell switches have SFP+ ports. So the plan is to link the switches using 10GB links. I would like to use the copper SFP+ interconnect cables. But the distance between the switches require a 10 meter cable (SFP-H10GB-ACU10M). But the 3850 specs only list the 5 meter (SFP-H10GB-CU5M) cable as supported.
So I have two questions. First is if the 10 meter cable will work and second has anyone run into any issues linking the 3850's to Dell switches via 10GB.

I think I answered my first question. Doing a bit more digging I found the "Cisco 10-Gigabit Ethernet Transceiver Modules Compatibility Matrix" which shows the SFP-H10GB-ACU10M is supported on the 3850 with OS XE 3.6.0E installed.
Still would like to know of anyone linking the 3850 to the 8132F however...

  • Catalyst 3560 routing for network boot

    Hi guys,
I'm a Cisco noob so please forgive me if I'm asking stupid questions :)
I have a Cisco Catalyst 3560 in my lab and it's currently a single VLAN set up with all 48 interfaces in it. The switch receives static IPs from the router and as far as I understand is not doing any routing by itself. I'd like to run my own tftp server available only to the servers on this switch (for network boot).
So what I probably need this switch to run is some kind of an internal network i.e. 10.10.2.0 so I'd be able to reach the servers on this switch both via an external IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and an internal one say 10.10.2.3 during the PXE boot.
So how should it be done and is it possible at all?
I hope I'm making myself clear and you got the idea. Please ask if you don't. :)
    BR,
    Paul

For example, if I start the security wizard and choose a single interface (FastEthernet6 in this case) to block port 25 on I get this config:
    Restricting Applications.
Creating ACL SecWiz_Fa0_6_in_ip based on provided criteria
    Creating VLAN Map SecWiz_Vlan1
    Applying VLAN Map
Applying VLAN Map SecWiz_Vlan1 to Vlan1
and when I click on Show CLI sequence:
    Cisco1(config)# no vlan access-map SecWiz_Vlan1 10
    Cisco1(config)# no ip access-list Extended SecWiz_Fa0_6_in_ip
    Cisco1(config)# ip access-list extended SecWiz_Fa0_6_in_ip
Cisco1(config-ext-nacl)# deny tcp any any eq 25
    Cisco1(config-ext-nacl)# permit ip any any
    Cisco1(config-ext-nacl)# exit
    Cisco1(config)# vlan access-map SecWiz_Vlan1
    Cisco1(config-access-map)# 10 match ip address SecWiz_Fa0_6_in_ip
    Cisco1(config-access-map)# 10 action forward
    Cisco1(config-access-map)# exit
    Cisco1(config)# vlan filter SecWiz_Vlan1 vlan-list 1
after I apply the changes port 25 gets blocked on the entire switch. I believe it will be the same for what I'm trying to do now.

Answer: No DFC4 is the sub-module which would sit on the line card WS-X6908-10G-2T. It doesnt require any spare slot.
WS-X6908-10G-2T: comes equipped with DFC4 for distributed forwarding, supporting 256K forwarding entries, increased ACL entries to 64K, increased Netflow entries to 512K, and increased IPv4 forwarding speed to 60 Mpps
