CISCO CHS DVR dropping sound to LCD TV

I have a CISCO CHS 435HDC DVR hooked up to a 32" Emerson LCD TV.  Periodically the sound will stop coming out of the set...and we have to turn the TV off then On.  The installer mentioned something about "HDMI" synching problems with the receivers and that unplugging/replugging the HDMI cable would fix it. (That does work but we found that turning the TV off/on forces the "resych" and the volume returns.
Is there a DVR SW patch for this intermittant sound loss.?

The boxes all have the latest software. You will want to check with your TV manufacturer. Most newer TV's come with updatable firmwares to fix problems such as these. Since every TV is different in this procedure you would need to contact their helpdesk.

  • Cisco CHS-435 DVR Locking up.

Cisco CHS-435 DVR locking up during the viewing of premium content at the best times. Mostly towards the end of a movie. The channel freezes, and will not come back, even after changing the channel up or down, or turning the box off and on. It stays frozen with the same picture frame. Almost like it was paused. Only time fixes the issue, but anything that would have been in the buffer is gone. So there goes the movie ending or the last few scenes before the end. I bet un plugging the DVR would fix it. But the WHOLE POINT is not to miss the program that is not recorded.
The Cisco hardware has been very reliable since it was installed new. Yes NEW still with the plastic protection on the face.
The other night I also for the first time received the error that the subscription was invalid, or something to that effect. I had to reset the DVR.
Are the Cisco boxes being played with now!? Cisco changes always lag behind the Motorola. Is setting the copy bit now messing with Cisco?
Why am I starting to have issues with Cisco hardware, and Motorola customers have been seeing things for a month or more?
I am at 1.9 still build 12.40. It seems like things are being changed like plug ins just like when the Video on demand was changed with no build, or img number change.
What is going on? Anyone out there from Verizon like to answer these questions?
You must be changing something to cause these issues, or are there now ghosts in the hardware? Any developers leave recently? Jurassic Park lately? It has been on a bunch.
    Solved!

Despite what you may see on this thread, this issue is still happening and is not resolved.

  • No variable audio output for Cisco CHS 435HDC set top box.

Background:  Until the other day I had my stb connectected to a TV, using TV sound, with an HDMI cable.  The P265v2 remote volume control changed the TV volume.  No problems.
My new TV & home theater system was recently installed.  We don't use the TV speakers.  While my first preference was to program the Verizon remote to change the volume on my Onkyo receiver, this did not appear to be an option on the remote's programming instruction page on the Verizon website.  Instead, I am directed to change a setting on the remote that makes the Verizon remote change the stb output volume vs the tv volume.  I changed the setting on the remote and ensured the stb box was set up for "variabe" audio output.
Problem:  Using the stb variable audio settings, volume settings 1 through 30 produce the same volume.  (Volume setting 0 produces no volume, as one would hope.)  It appears the "variable" setting isn't producing a variable output as it should be on this unit.
Thinking that maybe the receiver was complicating the sitation, I tried connecting the stb to the old TV and the new TV directly and had the same results.
Now, while I am watching TV, I need to have the receiver remote at hand in addition to the Verizon remote.  It would be nice to have the volume be adjustable as it should be while using the Verizon remote.  I don't like the idea of using a seperate universal remote because then I would lose some of the functionality that the Verizon remote provides when watching TV, using the DVR, watching on demand, etc.
I would like to know if this is a problem just with my unit, or if it exists with all of these units, which would hopefully be fixed with a Cisco/Verizon firmware update soon, hopefully.
    Thank you.

Having same issues with hdmi and optical. Any fix to this.
    Hello,
In order to control the volume on your home theater system, you'll need a FiOS TV Universal Remote that has the 4-buttons on the top for 'DVD', 'Aux'iliary, 'TV' and 'STB'.  The audio receiver would have to be programmed into the FIOS TV Remote, and controlled using the 'Aux'iliary button.
Verizon's 4-Button Universal Remote Controls are available for purchase:
    a) online via www.verizon.com/fiosaccessories
    OR
    b) at a local FiOS TV store (call first to check if they have them in stock).  For a list of stores:  http://www22.verizon.com/support/residential/tv/fiostv/general+support/account+issues/questionsone/8...
Presently, the default remotes for new set top boxes are the 2-button P-265 (newer version) remotes.
Regarding a problem with HDMI/optical on Cisco 435 STBs, check out the following:
    Go to this webpage:  http://www22.verizon.com/Support/Residential/TV/FiOSTV/Receivers/Equipment+Issues/QuestionsOne/12839...
Click on the link for 'Cisco CHS 435 HD DVR User Guide'.
Open the PDF and go to page 22 for 'Connecting to a Home Theater System...'.
    Hope this helps!

  • IR Extender for Cisco CHS 435HDC

Just had FIOS installed today and I'd like my Cisco CHS 435HDC DVR to be behind closed doors.  The installer stated that I could get an "IR Extender" to accomplish the task.  In the accessories area of Verizon I see a Motorola IR Extender Cable for Motorola QIP-7000 STB series; the only device listed.  Will that work with the CISCO box?

People have said this works well on both Moto and Cisco, so perhaps the one on the Verizon page would do the same. I believe the one on the Verizon site has a 3ft cable or something. I don't recall. I have noted that it is said to disable the one one the front panel. This one is out of stock until Mid. Feb. You may just want to google it.

No such model exists, therefore there is no problem.
Seriously though, clean the dock connector and headphone jack.  Lint/debris in either can cause problems.

  • Dropping sound in text chats

For a few months my iChat has been dropping sound in text chats. The new message, message sent, etc. sounds are dropping (or being sent to some unknown output device). I can't figure out where/how to fix this...and it's getting worse.
Now when iChat tries to make a sound and iTunes is playing BOTH will crash! This is INCREDIBLY annoying. There is also a popping or clicking going on...through the speakers.
    Console:
    Oct 20 12:42:16 BigMac crashdump[462]: coreaudiod crashed
Oct 20 12:42:18 BigMac crashdump[462]: crash report written to: /Library/Logs/CrashReporter/coreaudiod.crash.log
    Oct 20 12:42:21 BigMac crashdump[461]: iChat crashed
    Oct 20 12:42:22 BigMac crashdump[464]: iTunes crashed
    Any ideas?

    Hi Demetrios,
Ok there will be more info in Console
Go to the Logs icon top left.
USe the Reveal Triangle on ~/Library/logs
    Open the Crash Log
Open the iTunes and iChat Crash logs.
See if there is any similarities in the info contained in them. Thread 1 and Binary Images are the place to look.
It looks like you should also look at the CoreAudio crash log. It looks like this is where the problem lies.
This may be sorted by resetting the Micorphone choice in System Preferneces > Sound > Input tab and the Volume setting in the same Preference paene but > Sound Effect tab (for Alerts).
You may have to delete com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist
This is found in Hard drive/Library/Preferences
This is the Library you see when you can see the Applications folder, the System Folder and Users folder when you click on your Hard drive icon or use a Finder window to navigate to it.
The computer may need to be restarted after this.

  • Set default import format when drag and drop sound file into multitrack view?

I've looked around the preference panels but cannot find where to set the import settings for dragging and dropping sound files into multitrack view. Some of our computers have correct settings and others do not. Thanks for your help!
    G

I should have been more specific, sorry... I mean bit depth and bit rate... On some machines this defaults correctly and on other machines it is wrong. Not sure how to set these to downconvert properly by default. Unless it automatically takes the format of the source file, in which case it's just been luck.
    Thanks,

  • Audigy 2 ZS Value dropping sounds in Dawn of

I recently purchased an Audigy 2, and upon installation, Dawn of War no longer played unit sounds. Prior to this I had a SB Li've Value under which sounds play perfectly.
All other sound effects and music play normally, its only Unit acknowledgments, taunts and the like. The DOW community hasn't acknowledged this as a problem since only one other person has reported the error. Any idea?

A few things for you to think about are PCI latency and the type of sound the game uses. The older SB Li've Value doesn't do in-game EAX effects in hardware like a ZS or regular Audigy 2, but in software like onboard solutions do - which is why in most situations onboard always usually sounds ok but if you turn on EAX you get some CPU overhead. I would try disabling EAX (in game) if you're using it and see if there is any difference, and also check out the PCI latency tool and if your soundcard is 32 by default try raising it to 64. To be honest i'm not really sure there is actually a "ZS Value" but i know there is a regular "audigy 2 value" (which has a smaller PCB footprint). Dropping sounds can also be caused by not having a PCI card - most especially a sound card that's not in an optimal PCI slot IRQ wise (you might be sharing and IRQ with another device) - not that it always causes issues because usually it doesn't but sometimes does. I know i have had to move a few soundcards to different PCI slots for various reasons.

  • Help with sound to LCD TV when using HDMI

I would love any assistance with a problem I am having. I have a new mac mini with a 40" Proscan LCD. I am using a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter and am getting great video - 1080. My issue is that via Keynote I need to get sound to the LCD TV. It is coming through the mini speaker - what do I need to do to get the sound over to the TV? Any assistance would be appreciated!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
The user guide which came with your TV should cover the issue in the different connections available for your unit.
DVI is video only. HDMI is audio and video. If you are using an adapter to connect DVI to HDMI there is no audio because of this. So to connect a Mac mini with a DVI to HDMI adapter you will also need an audio cable to run the audio from the mini's audio outport to an audio inport on the TV. This is why I refer you to the user guide for your unit, because it should point out the correct port to use on the TV, as well as point out if you have options for using analog or digital audio. The mini's audio ports can do both.

  • No sound on LCD TV when Satellite A200 is connected via HDMI

The problen is: I connect notebook (A200) to LCD TV (Philips) by HDMI. The video is OK, but sound stay on notebook not in LCD TV.
May be the problem is HDMI 1.2 does not support sound and video together? Only 1.3?
    Sorry for my English

Sound should work with every HDMI cable as far as I know. Have two of them, one with HDMI 1.3 and another one, which I don't even know, but I guess not the 1.3 standard, as it was pretty cheap.
To enable sound via HDMI you will have to go to control panel - sound. There select the digial output device as standard. Make sure you have closed the media player or any program which has sound output before. Then start player again and sound should now be heard through TV.

  • Apple TV dropping sound

    Hi all,
There seem to be lots of variations of this question around at the moment, but I'll start afresh. My Apple TV2 is connected wirelessly to a Belkin router. The ATV is connected to the TV via HDMI and to a standalone (ie: not blu-ray/DVD player) surround sound system vie optical.
Without touching anything, the sound can play through the TV and surround system at the same time, I can choose which one I want to listen to, but without warning it will stop playing through the selected one, but play happily through the other, or vice versa, but sometimes nothing at all. Rebooting doesn't seem to help, but I can go away, come back later and all's well again.
Sometimes the connection through the HDMI lead will die on me - both picture and sound. I've tried 3 leads now and a friend has exactly the same problem, which makes me think it's not a hardware problem.
Just gets really annoying when you're 5 minutes from the end of a movie and there's no sound!!
    Any pointers appreciated.
    thanks
    Trev

Bizarre things was that last night I was at a friends house setting up their Airports for a garden party (I leant them 2 of mine that I reset to default then customised for circumstances) - they have similar setup as me, no apple TV but newer iMac and BT Home Hub 2 Router - I set up 3 Airport Express's to join their network all fine got green lights, but then same thing happened - continual drop outs in music especially when people were walking in the front door which is near where their router is, embarrassing, as I had to go back to my trusty iPod and leads:( rebooted everything too.
I'm leaning towards the problem being the last iTunes update, around the iPad launch.
Weird though as not many other people experiencing this as I have spent time searching here.

  • IDVD dropping sound

I have a project with 4 short movies. The project seems to burn fine but during my longest movie (38 min) the sound drops out of the last 5 minutes.
These movies were created by FCP. I was able to manage a DVD Studio Pro version (which is not working very well (barely works) with Leopard. I managed to get it to burn and there is not problem with the sound. I would use that copy, but the menu skips. I am really having a lot of issues with my Final Cut Studio with Leopard. Even after yesterday's update.
By the way, I built the same project on my daughters computer using idvd with Tiger and the same thing happened. No sound for last 5 minutes.
    Any insight is appreciated

What brand and format DVD are you using? Making a disk image and then burning? Burning at what speed?
I recommend a disk image burned to Verbatim DVD-R at 4X or slower using Toast or Disk Utility. You can set burn speed in iDVD '08 if not creating a disc image.
David Pogue also recommends Verbatim on page 356 of his iDVD 6 book:
iMovie HD & iDVD 6: The Missing Manual
Quoting David: "Cheaper brands don't use the same amount of organic dyes and are more likely to suffer premature deaths."
I buy Verbatim white inkjet printable in stacks of 50. Verbatim's part number: 94971. They have been flawless for me.

  • Keynote dropping sound when rendering to video

I am running Keynote 6.5 on the Yosemite 10.10.1 operating system in a MacBook Pro 1TB HD with 16 GB of Ram. I am having the problem of sound completely dropping off after about 2 minutes and 6 six seconds when exporting a slideshow to video. The operating system has been replaced and reinstalled, Keynote was deleted and reinstalled and I duplicated the problem on my second MacBook Pro.
After all of this it has been determined to be an Engineering issue and happens to be a problem that is apparently affecting Keynote on all MacBook's, at least within the sated system preferences.
Does anybody have any advice or knowledge pertaining to this matter? Or know when Apple may resolve the issue?
    James

we tried the custom settings being adjusted and leaving them as it is.
Therefore you did not use custom settings?
I currently have 10.10.1 with Keynote 6.5 and 10.9.5 with Keynote 6.2.2, both these versions export without issue to Quicktime when using custom settings.
This is an example of a custom QT export for HDTV 1080p:
