Cisco dsl setup

Can anyone tell me how I would set up dsl on my soho router, The config I have seen has the atm0 setup and also a dialler interface setup, Is this the way it must be done , cant you just set it up on the atm interface ?

Carl,
How are you connecting to your ISP, PPPoE, PPPoA or neither? There are different ways to configure you Soho 97. The dialer interface is used mostly for authentication purposes as is the case with some connection methods, again dependent upon what protocol you are using with your ISP.

  • ISE cannot push the profile to the cisco network setup assistant?

We have tried a few android devices with version 4.2+ but still got the error message ‘Unable to download profile.(Have you logged into the guest portal?)’ as shown at the bottom picture.
In fact, we are connecting the devices to an open SSID which performs MAC filtering, then redirect to CWA and login with AD credentials,
then redirect to Google play store and can successfully download the network setup assistant.
Could you please advise the possible reasons that would cause this error message and make ISE cannot push the profile to the cisco network setup assistant?

Here's a snipit from the Android spw.log.  I see that there is an error trying to verify the hostname.  Is it possible that this is caused by a non-trusted certificate?  I'm using the self-signed cert built into ISE.  I have an entry in the public DNS for guest.domain.com that resolves to the IP of my ISE server accessible from the guest subnet.  I'm allowing all traffic from the guest VLAN to the ISE vlan on the firewall and all traffic to/from the ISE server in the provisioning ACL I have applied by ISE on the WLC during native supplicant provisioning.  I know that guests can communicate with the ISE server since regular guest portal redirection works, just not the network setup assistant.  I've renamed the domain to domain.com in this snipit.

  • Successful DSL Setup With Westell 6100G and Linksys WRT54G Router

After a week of searching I finally figured out how to get DSL setup with my Linksys router.
All I could get out of the Westell > Linksys router configuration was DSL downloads limited to less than 0.2 Mbps.   No matter what I did on the router settings that was it.    I had a second eHome router that easily configured and achieved the 1.0 Mbps download speeds so that confirmed Verizon and the Westell modem were not the issue.
So what's wrong with the Linksys router configuration?    I had the Linksys WRT54G router Version 5.   Checking the firmware it was the original release of 1.0.0.   (See your routers instructions which can be downloaded from Linksys for how to check your firmware).   I downloaded the latest firmware version for this router model and version number.    Following the Linksys instructions I flashed the latest firmware 1.02.8.   Now I had an updated modem ready to be configured for DSL.
Assuming you already followed Verizons instructions to set the Westell modem to bridge mode setup your router to work with it.
Step 1: Go into the modem typing its address... Default 192.168.1.1   leave the ID blank and the default password is admin.
Step 2: Go to the Basic > Setup screen.
Step 3:  Select PPPoE and the screen menus will change
Step 4:  Enter your Verizon ID  (exclude @Verizon.net)
Step 5:  Enter your Verizon Password.
Step 6:  Go to the bottom of the screen and hit Save.   Wait and the router will indicate it was saved.
That's it.  All you need are the three entries above to get it working.   Turn off the PC, Router and Westell.   Turn on the Westell, then the router and then boot the PC.   It should work at this point.    I now get the full DSL speed for both downloads and uploads.
The bottom line....check you router, especially the older models for updated firmware before you give up on it.

Glad top see you found a configuration for your Westell and Linksys to function.  Thanks for posting resolution.

  • My new desktop will not read my dsl setup cd.

Ok, we got a new computer due to our old one was fried. We have our original dsl setup cd to hook up the modem and router to the new computer but it wont read the disk. It was read once, the first time it was put in, but i accidently pressed cancel. and now it wont read. it reads in other computers and other discs can be read on the computer...but not the setup. and tried booting it from the boot menu, and "run" menu. It acts like it loads for a few min then says no disk or insert disk. Any ideas or know of an online download i can do to save to a disk or sd or flash then onto this desktop? PLEASE HELP!

I'm going to cobble together my responses from another thread about this here.
There is no software required for an internet connection.
The activation cd can install some shortcuts, but those can be manually added and are not necessary.
It can configure your pop3 client if you prefer using a client to Verizon's webmail, but this can also be done manually.
It can walk you through getting a "portal partner" (Yahoo or AOL), but this is optional, and the partnering can be done elsewhere as well, usually from the My Account page.
It can help you in initially setting up your username and password. This can also be done via the My Account page.
It can configure your modem/router settings, this can also be done manually by accessing the modem/router's GUI.
All the activation cd and site do is string all of the processes together.
What exactly are you trying to accomplish with the install/activation CD? If I know what you're trying to accomplish, I can try to get that alternate method for you.

  • Cisco Network Setup Assistant Unable to install the certificate on Android KitKat

    Greetings,
I'm having issues with deploying the CA. Although the Cisco app fails, the user cert (but no CA) appears to install and is accessible during wifi setup. I am running the latest version of Cisco Network Setup Assistant 1.2.42. The phone is running Android KitKat 4.4.4, not rooted, running stock T-Mobile rom. I'm able to authenticate with the guest side, and get as far as Installing Certificates... Reference the screen shots attached.
Error message cisco Network Setup Assistant: "Unable to install the certificate. Exit the application and run it again to continue to the installation."
I have ran the application several times, it keeps returning to this same message.
After failure of the Cisco app, I noticed there is a certificate manager with CA cert and key, and than subsequently one new key continues to loop after until I cancel (also in screenshots).
I have tried decryption, removing all security, and clearing credentials, yet the problem persists. Any help is appreciated.

  • Cisco Network Setup Assistant with WIndows8

Hi, I'm trying to provisioning on Windows 8(Surface pro)
When the Cisco Network setup Assistant is on, it asks 'network password' while the ssid is wpa2-enterprise.
and I configured as it is on NSP.
    Is it a bug ??

    Hi,
What version of ise are you on, also what is the windows native supplicant provisioning version? See if the release notes for 1.2 meet your current design.

  • New DSL setup

I have a day old DSL setup. The internet connection light on the modem is erratic. A number of timed I have to reboot the modem in acquire a network connection. I leave the modem on as instructed in the start up book.

Step one: Visit http://www.giganews.com/line_info.html and post up the Traceroute the page shows, if you wish. Be aware that your non-bogan public IP Address will show up.  It might shown up as the final hop (bottom-most line of the trace)  might contain a hop with your IP address in it. Either remove that line or show only the first two octets. What I'm looking for is a line that mentions "ERX" in it's name towards the end. If for some reason the trace does not complete (two lines full of Stars), keep the trace route intact.
For example this what I saw when I was using Verizon
    news.giganews.com
traceroute to 71.242.*.* (71.242.*.*), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets

        2 ash-bb1-link.telia.net (213.248.70.241) 39 ms 7 ms 7 ms

Step two: Can you provide the Transceiver Statistics from your modem?
#3 If you don't know how to get that info:
    a) What is the brand and model of your modem?
    b) If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to it: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?
#4 If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to the modem, even if you know how to get the Transceiver Statistics from the modem: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?

  • RV042 Need help (2) AT&T DSLs setup. No Internet Access

Small Business setup of a dozen computers.
I am trying to get more bandwidth so have added a second DSL.
I am setting up new RV042 with two AT&T DSLs.
I have only (1) dsl modem (192.168.1.253) connected to RV042 to test setup. Have configured RV042 with user name and password for dsl.
dsl modem IP is 192.168.1.253  (second modem already has default 192.168.1.254)
    RV042 IP is 192.168.1.1
    Compter OS is Windows XP
Computer IP is set with Static IP 192.168.0.147
Computer Default Gateway is set  for 192.168.1.1
When I try to access the Internet from computer I get sent to ATT with problem and following the on screen suggestions, finally error says I have no Internet Connection.
However I can ping google.com and yahoo.com from command window with this setup.
If I remove RV042 and connect computer to dsl modem and reset default Gateway to ip of modem (192.168.1.253) I get Internet Access so It is working.
Why then do I not get Internet access thru RV042?
I turned off firewall on computer.
Set to Load Balance instead of Backup
Set Primary WAN to #1 where I connect to dsl modem.
Turned OFF dhcp on RV042 which is being handled by original modem.
I have not yet talked to ATT support about the RV042 to see if they can offer help.
    Any help will be appreciated.

Reading over your post its best to give Cisco Small Business Support Center a call @ 1-866-606-1866 and open a support case. We need to get a better understanding on how everything thing is connected and configured. There is a lot of conflicting information and could case possible topology integrity if not corrected.

I have an 857W router which I want to replace my home ADSL router with.
I can setup the ADSL / routing no problem but I am struggling to find a good resource on setting up the wireless.
Can anyone guide me to some basic setup guides to securing the wireless on this box.

  • EA3500 Cisco Connect Setup problem?

So i recently resetted my Linksys EA3500 and i lost the CD so i download the Cisco Connect for the EA3500.I connected my EA3500 using the ethernet cable to my laptop, run the setup, and then on 25% it said that no wireless routers were found.I already connected it using an ethernet cable i dont understand why it is still not found. What should i do?

Hi geraldicg , make sure that the wireless switch on your computer is turned on. I recommend that you try another laptop (if available). If no luck, configure the router manually by accessing 192.168.1.1 or myrouter.local. Check this out:

    Here is my basic setup

G1 connects to the inside on 192.168.35.254 then plugs direct into a switch.
I'm confused on the setup to get the IPS running. do i need to set the IPS in the same range as my inside interface? and also what do i set the IPS gateway to 192.168.35.254 my inside ASA interface?
Once this is done done a need to setup a rule within the MPF to foward all traffic to it?

  • WRT54G v5/Verizon DSL setup

Hey everyone I am somewhat new to networking and I have a question about install DSL on two computers. To start the upstairs computer is the main one and I have a usb cord going directly into a Westell 6100 router. I then have the ethernet cable from the computer running into the first port of the linksys router. Also I have another ethernet cable running from the westell 6100 router to the internet port on the linksys WRT54g v5 router. Also, no installation disk came with my router.  But anyways, now I turn both of those on and I have all the appropriate lights lit up on both routers. Now I have installed the Verizon DSL software on the upstairs computer and I have internet. My problem now is how to get a Linksys WMP54g desktop card the downstairs computer to pick up the signal from the upstairs computer. Also that downstairs computer is running Windows 98. When I go on the upstairs computer to the internet to type in the 192.168.1.1 it comes up as Westell instead of Linksys setup screen. I am stuck at this point and I was wondering if you guys can understand what my problem is and help me solve this. Thank you for your help in advance. If you have any questions or need a better explanation or diagram feel free to ask!

Ok, so you have your westell 6100 router connected to your linksys router? Hmm... Well I can understand why your upstairs computer connects to your westell router instead of your linksys. You need to connect your computer to your linksys router to your computer to access that one instead of the other one. If you connect it to your westell then it will only pick up on that one, even though the westell is connected to the linksys. Also, how far away is the router to the wireless card? There is a certain distance you can go. But then again, I don't own a WRT54g v5 router... So I am not 100% sure. Your router may need to be setup first for the wireless, but I hope I was some use to you.

  • Cisco Connect setup stuck at 90% Linksys E900

    Hi,
Today evening i had to restart my routers settings and I also formatted (don't know if it's a good word in english, i mean recovering operating system) my disk and now i can't install Cisco Connection Again on my laptop (win8). The setup process is always stuck at 90% (after few or more minutes there's message that configurating failed...),  what's wierd is that i can explore the internet and use settings of router in web browser ( http://192.168.1.1 ) when setup is stuck. After getting "FAIL message" i cant use internet anymore.
I beg for your help! ;<
    Thanks in advance.

Do you want to use the Cisco Connect software? If not, then you can always go for manual troubleshooting. Linksys designe cisco connect as a tool to help manage the router. If you need to use it, I suggest that you download the software from the linksys website and start all over again. Before you run the software, reset the router first for 10 seconds, reboot the router and once it's ready run cisco connect.
Just make sure that you do not have any firewalls enabled or antivirus software that may interfere with the setup process. Again if you don't need the software jsut go with manual troubleshooting. You always have different options.

  • Cisco vlan setup w a windows 2003 dhcp server help

Can anyone give me some tips or point me to some documentation on setting up a catalyst 4500 series w vlans and a windows 2003 server w associated dhcp scopes? Just for curiosity, what is a good vlan design for a college. I was thinking a student, a staff, a faculty, and a guest and or mgmt vlan. Also, on the guest vlan how would I setup an outbound acl to only allow port 80 traffic? Thanks in advance.

    Hi
Try to limit the number of users per vlan to no more than a class C subnet if you can. We use half a class C /25 network in our offices.
If you can break up the vlans to match the different type of users then that would be a good start. It means you can further down the line apply different security policies to the different vlans which in your situation you may well want to do. Don't worry if for example you need to use 2 or 3 vlans for students it's not a problem.
Attached is a link for 4500 configuration. You need to look at the following chapters primarily
    1) Configuring VLAN's VTP & VMPS.
    2) Configuring Layer 3 interfaces. Look at the section on logical layer 3 SVI's.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/12.2/31sg/configuration/guide/conf.html
On the guest vlan you would need something like (assuming guest vlan subnet range is 192.168.1.0/24
    access-list 120 permit tcp 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 any eq www
    access-list 120 deny ip 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 any
and apply it on the inbound vlan interface. ie. if your vlan for guest users is vlan 20
    switch(config)# vlan 20
    switch(config-if)# ip access-group 120 in
As for the W2003 server, not done much with windows. You will need DHCP manager which should be under admin tools. Make sure you exclude the addresses for each subnet that you allocate to the 4500 layer 3 interfaces ie
    switch(config)# vlan 20
    switch(config-t)# ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0
In your DHCP scope 192.168.1.1 will be the default gateway for your clients and you should exclude this from the scope.
Hope this is enough to get you started
    Jon

  • Cisco Error: Setup failed to launch installation engine

When launching the CSA installation, I am getting an error that says "Setup failed to launch installation engine. Access denied." This agent kit has been deployed to hundreds of servers with no problems. Has anyone see this problem before or know of a solution?

Check your access rights and the version of Installshield on the server. I've seen a conlict with newer versions (1/3/2003 or newer) of Ikernel.exe left over from other installations.
