CISCO E1200 ROUTER REDUCED BANDWIDTH THRUPUT

I am experiencing signifcant bandwidth reduction at a range of about 30 feet from the router. I have a Cisco E1200 router. I have xfinity 30mps speeds. On a wired connection I got close to my 30mps speeds. On a wireless I receive about 25mps while I am within 5 feet of the router. As I run speed tests every five feet I am seeing a significant drop in speeds. At 30 feet I am lucky to get 3mps. The router broadcasts through two metal stud walls between the router and the 30 feet away.
I have upgraded firmware, reset the router, disabled the QoS (WWM) option. The router is configured for WPA2 personal and is using Wi-Fi Protected Setup by defaults. At the time of testing only three devices were connected and only one was actively being utilized.
Any help would be appreciated.
Neil

That sounds normal. When you disabled WMM, you essentially turned it in in to a wireless G router. 25 Mbps is about all you're going to get with that 54 Mbps link speed. That's normal.
Consider purchasing a refurb EA4500 for $65. You'll get better range and throughput. (But if you disable WMM, you'll be back in the same sinking boat).

  • Updating firmware etc. for E1200 router

When I bought my E1200 router my primary (in fact only) computer was a Windows laptop.  Since that time I bought a MacBook Pro and have been using that as my primary computer.  The Mac is running on the latest OS (Mountain Lion).
I would like to install the latest software to maintain the router on my Mac but I was told several months ago that there was no update available for Mountain Lion.  Does anyone know if that has changed, and if so where can I download the appropriate software?
    Thank you.

I suggest that you install the cisco connect software to another computer. But you can always manage the router manually by accessing the router interface. If you need to check the wireless settings, you can still do that even if you don't have cisco connect.
Please check the link below how you can access the router interface:

  • Can I upgrade an E1200 router to support Mavericks?

I have a Mac and upgraded to Mavericks.  Now when I go to Cisco Connect, I get a message that says "Unsupported Operating System   The router software supports these operating systems: Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later, 10.6.1 or later, 10.7 or later"   What seems odd is that my computer is still connected wirelessly but our Samsung Smart TV is not.  Can my E1200 router be upgraded to 10.9?  I also had a problem with my Canon scanner not scanning and by uninstalling and reinstalling the problem was fixed.  Any chance uninstalling and reinstalling would work here?

You cannot upgrade but if you need to get into your Lynskys router account to change your settings, passwords and all other options. Use the 'Opera' Browser (If you don't have it, download it for free) The default IP address is 192.168.1.1. Paste it in your browser and enter. It will ask you for your username and password. You will be in, and able to do anything you were able to do with the old software.
Note. If you have OS X 10.9.1 Mavericks  It will NOT work on Safari, Firefox, or Chrome.

  • Cisco 7609 router received higher traffic than upstream provider router is sending

    Hi all,
I have a Cisco 7609 router that connects to our upstream provider router using 3rd party DWDM Fiber backhaul provider.
The upstream provider router is a Juniper router that had capped our port speed to 1.1Gbps, the backhaul provider didn't capped our port speed and the maximum speed is 2Gbps since it's a 2x1Gbps port channel interface.
I have noticed that our 7609 router able to receive traffic that exceeds 1.1Gbps, and the highest traffic able to received is 1.3Gbps and more.
I have crossed checked the MRTG graph provided by our upstream provider as well as our PRTG graph and indeed we are receiving higher bandwidth than our upstream provider is sending.
I'd like to know if anyone know how it is possible to receive traffic that is higher than what the neighbor router is sending?

    Hi at all,
We found a solution for this Problem !!
We always and always got this error:

The problem was the cable! The following pin-out is required:

                                            3 ----- 6

We used this and the fault has disappeared!!
The only problem that still exists:
After the first connection the router must be rebooted because otherwise no more additional session is established.
    Thanks for all answers.

  • E1200 Router Stability Problems

Hi y'all! It's my first time posting here, so please be gentle...  I've been prowling the boards for some problems that may be quite similar to mine, but since I do not have the time to read each possible one (sorry, guys!), here it goes:
I've recently acquired a Linksys E1200 router--which is more than a week old--from the recommendation of a friend of mine. The service is great and all, but the one thing that frequently bothers me is the seeming constant instability of my router's model. There are moments when the router performs smoothly, but there is as much an instance when I'm almost always pulling my hair out because the router doesn't seem to work at all even when the lights (and the accompanying connection) on my modem seem to be working in good order.
I know that a router will always have its problems, but I just need to ask anyone here if this is really a constant problem with the E1200; and if so, if there's any way possible on how I can be able to "stabilize" the said router's performance. Any suggestion from you guys would be more than welcome. Thanks!

    Hey guys!
Sorry for the late reply, but as it turned out, I was also plagued with other technical problems--namely, my trusty laptop fizzling out on me after 5 years of hard work and service. BUT anyhoo...
The wireless router I'm currently trying to set up is the Cisco Linksys E1200 with serial number 10810C64207218. I was able to successully install it last week, and that was mainly by sheer accident, via manual installation through my laptop which has wi-fi capabilites. The first one I tried installing the router on, on the other hand, is only LAN-enabled. Since then, it was two days of continuous unstable connection until I just discontinued using the router because of it. And yes, I did try the above suggestions of resetting the device and downloading the firmware, but it were still to no avail.
However, since my wi-fi-enabled laptop is officially out of commission, I tried installing it now using a Gateway notebook (not sure if that's the right "name" for this brand) and on a Windows 7 OS by using the CD which came with the router. Because the notebook I'm now using is also LAN-enabled only, I think the installation process was partially hijacked because of it, and now I'm running out of ideas as to how I can make this week-old router work already.
Again, any and all suggestions will be welcomed greatly. Thanks in advance for the help!

  • E1200 Router + 02 RE1000 Range Extenders

I got, at home, a Cisco Linksys E1200 router and two range extenders Linksys Cisco RE1000.
My house has two floors. The router is at the office, on the second floor, right in the middle of the floor. Between it and one of repeaters (which is at my room, also on the second floor), there is another room. The second repeater is located downstairs, rigjht in front of the stairs. So it will be nearly bellow the router (which is at the second floor, as I said above). I mean, that way, the router is between the two RE1000.
Those devices are pretty easy to set up. Even for those who know nothing about networks, like myself. And everything was set up without any problem. And the devices are all the same brand.
With everything turned on, I see the signal strength indicators on the deivces (like iPads, laptos, Samrt TV, smartphones) and everything seems to work fine.
However, sometimes, when you I go downstairs, although the signal is being displayed on the phone (Galaxy S3), for example, as the strongest, there is no internet connection, or it is really slow.
I do not know if I made myself clear. I'll try to improve ... I'm accessing the internet through my Galaxy S3, for example, upstairs. I go down and signal is strong, but cannot connect to the internet. The I go upstairs and got connected again ... If I connect my S3 when I’m downstairs, it goes ok. It is like there are two different networks with the same SSID. Is it possible?
I have already reset and reconfigured repeaters more than once and it keeps happening. I do not know what might be happening. Can somebody help me??
Yesterday (april 11th) I had a chat session for one and a half hour. The assistant was very nice and patient. He helped me with some manual set ups in the E1200 and in the two RE1000. After that set ups the quality bars of both extenders became stronger (before it was 2 of 5 bars, then we got 3 bars).
But I really think the connectivty issue remains. I'm really newbie in networks and stuff like that, but I really feel it is like if I have two different networks with the same SSID and the same password in each floor of my house.
I hope I made myself clear. It's quite difficult try to explain it in english (I'm from Brazil)...

There are so many reasons why wireless connection may be strong or weak, I have a few listed below:
    Distance-related problems
    Physical obstructions
    Wireless interferences
Transmit rate on the wireless router
    Outdated firmware on the router
    Power outage
You have not mentioned here the wireless settings on the router like the network mode, SSID, channel and the type of wireless security used because they will actually have an impact. I suggest, you modify the wireless settings on the router. For network mode, keep it on mixed. Change the SSID (network name) to something unique not just the one that came with the router. Play around for the wireless channel (3,6,9,11) and use WPA2 Personal for the wireless security. On the range extenders, you may vary the wireless channel. It is better to choose different range on each of them. You can also make use of this tool to help who choose the channel which has less interference or not commonly used, http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/

  • E1200 Router will not load Instagram/Facebook/ Pinterest on mobile devices

We have a Cisco Linksys E1200 router at home connected to our comcast modem.  Everything works great on our home computers and laptops, however on me and my wifes mobile devices (Samsung S5, Moto X) social media apps loads extremely slowly, or not at all.   If we connect to other access points in our house or elsewhere it works just fine.
Any idea what is causing this?  I set MTU to manual and that did not help.
    Thank you

I should have stated, that I power cycled, updated apps, and updated firmware on the E1200 to the latest version.  Linksys tech support would not help me because the E1200 is out of the warranty period.

  • Configuring QoS on Cisco 3845 router for Polycom Video Conferecing

    Dear All,
We have implemented a Polycom Video Conferecing solution at our Head Office. Using this we communicate with other branch offices through WAN (2mbps, MPLS).
The problem is that this WAN link is also used for data. When the traffic is high on the link, the voice and the video quality goes down drastically and we experience connection drops.
At the moment we have configured our Polycom box to communicate at 512kbps speed and we would like to reserve it in our WAN link. In case, video conferencing is not happening we would like it to be utilised by other traffic.
Can we configure QoS on our Cisco 3845 router to do this? I'm not a Cisco expert and have pressures from Management to correct this before the next conference.
I have already googled a fair bit but couldn't find something for me.
Could someone please tell me the exact commands that need to be given on our router to achieve this.
I'll be very thankful for this help.
    Best Regards.

    Hi,
You can use something like the following to guarantee 5122k of bandwidth to your video-conferencing bandwidth but to allow that bandwidth to be used by other traffic when it is not being used for video-conferencing:
    class-map VDOConf
    match ip dscp af41
    policy-map WANPolicy
    class VDOConf
    bandwidth 512
    interface
    service-policy output WANPolicy
Note that the above assumes that your video conferencing traffic is being marked to AF41. If that is not the case, you can always match on the IP address of your polycom device using an ACL:
    class-map VDOConf
    match access-group 101
    access-list 101 permit ip .....
Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

  • Cisco 3925 router with an ATM E3 card that never goes down!

    Hi all,
We a Cisco 3925 router with an ATM E3 card (NM-1A-T3/E3) configured as below with 1 PVC. we see that the ATM subinterface we created for the PVC never goes down! not even when the WAN link is down! The problem with this is we are tracking the line protocol of the ATM sub interface to have VRRP failover to standby router. But because of this issue only BGP goes down whenever the WAN is down & line-protocol of the Subinterface remains up, the failover never happens & site is down. We can configure VRRP to track reachability of a BGP route as workaround but I would like an explanation or troubleshooting steps to check whats the trouble with current setup?

Your router has some configuration on it already and it would help us give you better advice if we knew what is already in the configuration. So would you post the output of show running-config (if there is sensitive information like addresses and passwords you can mask them out.
Changing the configuration register was a good start. I have a couple questions/observations that may help you get started. I notice what appears to be the same public IP address on Gig0/0 and on multilink. Did you get that address from your ISP? If so what kind of connection do you have to the ISP?
In your description you tell us that Gig0/0 is connected to a small switch, which I assume is for the LAN of your network. But that also is the interface where the public address is configured. So I am confused whether this interface is for LAN or for connecting to the ISP. Can you clarify this?

  • I am loosing configuration when I power off my Cisco 857 router

I bought new Cisco 857 router from the shop. Router must have been used before as I couln't go in with default username/password cisco/cisco.
Well I followed instruciton and reset password to username and password. Now I finally connected to the Cisco CP express over my IE browser.
I found out that somebody was using a router from the shop so this is why I coun't log to it in the first place. Anyway problem is that when I changed configuration and applied settings it remembers it until I power it off. When I power it on again it remembers all settings from that shop.
It reverts everything back: IP address, previous level 15 account and password - everything like after password reset.
I tried it again and it again lost settings. So I found following instruction:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps233/products_tech_note09186a00800a65a5.shtml
I followed it and changed again all settings on the router. My settings are again lost after power off/on. I noticed that when I do first bit it does show
0x2102 not 0x2142 like they think that is password reset mode.
Here is my output from Hyper Terminal:

Please help me as I am stuck and can't go any further....

    Hi David White,
Alternatively, after password recovery you can modify the configuration to be what you want, and then issue:
       write memory
to save the configuration.  You can then verify that your changes have been saved to the startup config by issuing:
       show startup-config"
The only good thing is that when I switch off a router it erase configuration except my new password which I created after password reset. Everything else is getting vanished (ADSL settings, DHCP, routing ) everything. Even new admin accounts I created.
Well have a question to your above comments. I am new in Cisco so please put as much detail as you can for me to understand. When you say modify configuration do you mean to go to Cisco CP Express graphical interface and then connect router to hyper terminal and execute above commands?
Why router doesn't remember this anyway. There must be some option to change in configuration to make thing permanent when I hit apply changes in Cisco CO Express otherwise it is pointless to heve it.
    Phillip
    write memory
    is
    copy running-config startup-config"
Can't this be done via Cisco CP Express or set up router to copy this every time I change this in graphical interface rather going to command line to achnoledge it?
I understand your concern about this router and somebodie's configuration details as you want things to be un-used when you buy them - true. ADSL details belongs to the shop which sold me the router so that is why I don't make a big problem about this. We take most of hardware from this shop and have discount and many good deals with them so I think they have been just testing it and forgot to erease their config. It might be that someone has returned router to the shop and they have repaired it and tested it.
I hope this is a normal behaviour of this router as I have option to replace it in case this is a fault.
Could you please write me step by step guide how can I make changed options stay permanently on router?
    thank you
    Dragan

  • I have a Cisco wireless router.  Can I buy an Airport Express plug in booster for a distant part of my house or do I need an Airport Extreme base station instead to make the Airport Express plug in booster work?

Can I buy an Airport Express plug-in wifi signal booster to connect to a Cisco wireless router, or do I have to buy an Airport Extreme base station to make the Airport Express plug-in work?

You would need either an AirPort Extreme or an AirPort Express connected to the Cisco router, with a permanent Ethernet cable connection.
Configure the Extreme or Express that is connected to the Cisco router to "create a wireless network".
Then, you could add an AirPort Express to "extend a wireless network" to provide more wireless coverage for the network that the Extreme or Express would be creating.
Remember that the Express can only "extend" the quality of signal that it receives, so it must be located where it can receive a strong signal from the "main" AirPort.
If you don't need the Cisco wireless signal, you could turn it off.....or use that network for guests or something similar.
The bottom line here......you always need two Apple routers if you want to extend the network wirelessly.

  • Cisco 2951 router AC-PoE power consumption, meaning of the mention "Platform Only" in the datasheet.

    Hello,
I have a question regarding the power consumption of a Cisco 2951 router with an AC-PoE power supply (without PoE boost).
In fact in the table (n°7) of the Cisco 2900 Series ISR (G2) datasheet, that sum up the power consumption data for Cisco 2900 series routers there is the line : "Maximum Power with PoE Power Supply (Platform Only) (Watts)", and I would like to know what is exactly the meaning about the mention "Platform Only".
Thank you for your help, best regards,

    Hi @francois.trarieux,
This is the maximum power that is consumed exclusively by the router from the PoE PS (Power Supply). The power capacity that the PoE PS gives to other PoE devices (IP Phones, Cameras, APs, etc) is specified in the line below "Maximum End-Point PoE Power  Available from PoE Power Supply (Watts)" of the datasheet.
    HTH.

  • Cisco 877 router - Cisco IP phone won't register with SIP provider

    Hi all,
I'm having a problem with a Cisco SPA504G phone not registering with the SIP carrier over the Internet. We've recently rolled out a Cisco 877 router onto a new NBN business connection and can't get the pre-configured IP phone to register.
When we tested the phone with the NBN-provided Netgear router, it worked fine, as it did with the previous Cisco 1841 router we were using on a different link.
The way it's setup is using VLANs to define the internal subnets, which are then assigned to the physical interfaces (since the 887 doesn't allow IP assignments to the interfaces directly).
VLAN 100 is the internal network and has a SBS2011 server – assigned to F0 – IP range is 192.168.1.0
VLAN 200 is the guest network and has Internet access only – assigned to F1 – IP range is 10.1.1.0
VLAN 500 is the WAN network and connects to the NBN upstream box – assigned to F3 – external IP address assigned by DHCP
I've been playing around with access lists, nat rules, basically everything in my limited Cisco knowledge to try and figure this out, but to no avail. I have even configured what I believe is unrestricted access to IP, UDP and TCP outbound and inbound to all VLANs and still can't get it to register.
Tried isolating the issue by creating a new VLAN and assigning it to the spare interface and basically allowing everything in and out, but still no luck.
The problem has to be something on the router – probably some small line of config I haven’t removed or added.
I am going to pull my hair out soon, so would really appreciate some assistance from the Cisco gurus out there.
My client has just purchased about 10 of these handsets from their provider so I need to fix this ASAP. The guy who provided them wasn't very helpful, and basically said I'm on my own once we tested using the NBN-provided Netgear router.
Happy to post my config as well.
    Please help!!!!

  • Configuration Issue with my Cisco 871 Router

    Hi all,
I am a newbie to the Cisco IOS.
I got a Cisco 871 Router that I'd like to use for internet connection. My LAN network is 192.168.1.0/24 and the ISP has assigned us the IP 41.212.79.108/24 and gateway 41.212.79.1.
With my current configuration, I can hit the router - 192.168.1.1 - and it's WAN port - 41.212.79.108 - but not the gateway.

2 wireless routers can not communicate wirelessly with each other.
You need to connect cable between 2 routers and use the second wireless router as access point.
Follow this link to connect Linksys router to another router.
Some of your devices are getting same IP address. This might be the issue with DHCP server of the router. You can try DHCP reservation on the router so that each device will get unique IP address.
