Cisco E2000 Wireless Isolation

I have a Linksys E2000 router on my home network. The router has the newest version of firmware. My issue is this:
Every once in a while, wireless clients on my network become "isolated". Here's an example of what happens. I set up a new wireless printer. I can print to the printer wirelessly from my phone, PC's, etc. all fine after setup. I'm thinking everything is cool!! Well after 2 weeks to 1 month this device will become "isolated" so I cannot print to it; it has an IP address, it can ping its gateway, but i cannot ping it from other devices on the same subnet. I know it's not the printer because if i unplug my E2000 and plug it back in, it works fine.
Another example. I have two windows 7 PC's that are on the same homegroup and i can share files between them. Sometimes it works and other times it doesnt. I can ping my gateway but they cannot ping eachother. I would troubleshoot the issue like crazy from the host end, but the second i unplug my E2000 and plug it back in, BINGO they can talk. Something is wrong with how these routers function with hosts in inter-subnet communications.

Try to do the following steps:
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] Then go to the Wireless tab, keep network mode as mixed,
For Channel Settings of 2.4 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
For Channel Settings of 5 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 40 or 161...
B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the username field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.

Is it happening to your wireless computers and wireless devices only ? Coz if that's the case you also have to check if a wried computer will do ther same thing. Your problem needs proper isolation.

  • RV-120W and "Wireless Isolation within SSID"

    Hi everyone,
I search on the forum and all i found it this post that is not very complete.

I Have RV-120W with the latest firmware update (1.0.5.6)
I would like to isolate the WIFI from the LAN.
I try to look in the manual but it's not very clear.
Is anyone can help me with specific operation that make me configure the router to separe those network?
    Thank you
    Regards,
    Jean-Marc

    Hi Tom,
well first of all, I don't speak about wired computer. I mentioned it only in the beginning for purpose, that DHCP and router itself work correctly.
OK, I can accept, that the term "Wireless Isolation within SSID" can be understand as you and Darren describe - english is not my native language. And actually I'm glad for such a feature.
But I must still insist, that the decription in the admin guide is misleading. Lets paste it here again:
Chapter 3, page 56, part "Configuring Wireless Security and Other Settings", step 3-d:
(Optional) Check the Wireless Isolation within SSID box to separate this network from the other three networks on the Cisco RV120W. When this feature is enabled, the network can communicate with the Cisco RV120W, but not with any of the other networks.
Sorry Tom, but there is nothing written about isolating of wireless devices, which are connected to the same SSID.

  • I just set up an Optus Cisco DPQ3925 wireless router to access higher speed internet I signed up for. I have a 4th gen airport extreme I want to put in another room and use as a wifi extender the wifi but I get an error message each time I try. Help?

    Hello all.
I have just set up a new cisco DPQ3925 wireless router that Optus sent me to be able to access the higher speed internet I have signed up for.
I have a 4th gen apple extreme that I want to use to extend the wifi but when I try to update the settings via the airport utility I get a message that says it cannot do so, and to check it is in range and the wifi is set up correctly. I'm not experienced with these things but I can't think what I have done wrong.
Is anybody able to help me please.

You cannot use the AE to extend wireless from a non apple router such as your cisco modem router.. they are not compatible..
You need to tie to the two devices together either with ethernet or something like EOP adapters.. They are about $120 and you can price match in officeworks.

  • Problem getting Airprint (Bonjour) to communicate to HP LaserJet CP1525nw printer across a Cisco 5508 Wireless Controller

I cannot get my IPad2 to print (it cannot find the printer) using a Laserjet CP1525nw color printer across a wireless network using a Cisco 1508 Wireless Controller with 49 wireless access points. HELP!!!!
What is the secret to getting Bonjour to work on it?
I can get the IPad2 to locate the HP CP1525nw printer without a hitch using a low budget Netgear WAG102 stand alone wireless access point on the same network.

If it helps somebody, here is what you need to do.
It worked for me, but only in Multicast-Unicast mode.

  • How to replace the certificate of Cisco 2106 wireless LAN controller for CAPWAP ?

I have interested in CAPWAP feature and I download the open capwap project to make Access Controller (AC) and Wireless Terminal Point (WTP). I had built the AC which used PC and WTP which used Atheros AP. The CAPWAP feature work well when I enabled the CAPWAP that used my own AC  and WTP. When I got the Cisco 2106 wireless LAN controller (Cisco WLC), I configured the Cisco WLC to instead my own AC but I got the authorize fail in Cisco WLC side. It seem the Cisco WLC could not recognize the CAPWAP message which sent form my own WTP. I think this issue just need to synchronize the certificate between Cisco WLC and WTP.So I need to replace the Cisco WLC's certificate manually. Does anyone know how to replace the certificate manually with Cisco WLC ?
    Best Regards,
    Alan

Unfortunately this Support Community is for Cisco Small Business & Small Business Pro product offerings.  The WLC2106 is a traditional Cisco product.  You can find this type of support on the Cisco NetPro Forum for all traditional Cisco products.

  • Local RADIUS in AP1242 with non-cisco WinXP wireless clients

I'd like to configure local RADIUS in AP1242 and connect non-cisco WinXP wireless clients (for example notebook with integrated radio) with it. I did configuration (config1.txt) like in instruction: http://cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps4570/products_configuration_example09186a00801c0912.shtml
But I can't connect non-cisco WinXP wireless client with AP1242 anyway. At once Cisco wireless client with Aironet Desktop Utility connects with it without any problem. I've done some other configuration (config2.txt), but with the same result. Second configuration is rather then first.
How can I connect non-cisco WinXP wireless clients with AP1242 with local RADIUS?

    Hi Stephen,
Thanks for the quick reply. Below is the switchport config. I am able to ping the AP from the switch and connect to its web page from any workstations.
    interface GigabitEthernet0/5
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport trunk native vlan 151
    switchport mode trunk

    Hello Dirk,
AP 1200 is EOS, and customers were encouraged to migrate to 1240 Series (which is also EOS now)
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/aironet-1200-series/eol_c51-506611.html
Therefore it is recommended to migrate to Cisco Aironet 1600 or Cisco Aironet 2600 Series.

  • Best Setup? Daisy Chain WPN824N from Cisco e2000 N Router or use Netgear 600

*NOTE* Two things I'm thinking about as I write this... 802.11 N @ 5 GHZ (2 different approaches) not faster than G @ 2.4 and could I lose strength chaining a G and N router vs. one dual band router... Also, I think I'm answering my own question as I write this...)
I appreciate any advice!!! I originally setup the WPN824N dedicated to G @ 2.4 GHZ chained from Cisco E2000 dedicated to N @ 5 GHZ. (So $150 already here).
I picked up a Netgear 600 on a whim 2 days ago ($85 and could return). Of course BB told me I'd get a stronger signal and better streaming from this to all devices (most important to me is Apple TV and IPad, but I only use it for free Netflix 99% of the time and I don't believe you get many Hi-Def options). Thinking about it, can the 600 actually operate a full speed N network while supplying G? Does it drop to lowest speed like some? Again, BB told me it would send N speed and G speed simultaneously... Odd for $85???
    Here's what I'm running...
    1) Hardwired PC as a backup and Media Server (Itunes & DVD Burner)
    2) Two T61 Lenovo Laptops (Win 7) - 802.11 G - General Use
    3) Ipad - Sometimes Netflix, Pandora, etc. - 802.11 N 5GHZ (Near full strength signal but short distances - normal with 5 GHZ)
    4) Apple TV - 802.11 N - Full Signal Strength  (80% streaming - 50' through cabinet and one wall; 20% hardwired)
    5) Ipod Touch 4 - Pandora, Web Surfing, Apps
    6) Iphone 4 - Pandora, Web, Apps
Speed tests appear to be staying steady between the two different router setups; the Ipad, Iphone and Ipod with 11 - 12 Mbps and the laptops with 20 Mbps coming from a Comcast 20 Mbps line. I tried the upgrade to the 30 Mbps line and experienced no improvement.
Specifically, with only a 20 Mbps line should I expect to lose speed and/or signal strength in a chained setup vs the one dual band router?
If so, is it odd the dual band router isn't faster than chained with current settings. Maybe the 600 needs tweeked?
I don't mind keeping the 600 if it could truly make a difference but after a day and a half, I don't believe I'm seeing a difference. There could be a number of other factors that I'm missing, so that is the real meat of the question. Aside from simplicity, are there other things I should consider before going back to the chained setup?
Surprisingly, the cheap 824N maintains a strong, consistent signal and speed. However, I'm not seeing any improvement in speed from the dedicated Cisco Router for N @ 5 GHZ like I had expected. I thought N capable devices would really benefit from removing so much interference. I'm in a Condo and the devices consistently see the same 6 or so networks. Net Stumbler shows about 16 networks, almost all 2.4 GHZ G networks.
My thinking was the Netgear 600 could possibly produce a strong, faster signal to both G and N devices. It seems odd to me that the laptops max out the 20 Mbps download but neither setup pushes the Apple devices past an average of 12 Mbps, especially the Ipad.
Please share your thoughts on this. I'm getting OCD over this and I'm tired of deciphering and trying to tie together information "close" to my questions but none of them specific to what I'm looking for.
    Thank you!!!!!

  • Is there a "Cisco Recommended" wireless headset for the SPA 504G Phones?

Hello, Is there a "Cisco Recommended" wireless headset for the SPA 504G Phones?
Please let me know.  Thank you, Paul

    Hi Paul,
My recommendation would be the "Plantronics Savii 700 series" which have worked consistently and without issues, you need the HL-10 Handset lifter with them which work with the SPA-500 series.
The Savii series come as DECT for when you are using it with a phone (Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better reception than Bluetooth) and Bluetooth for when you have it synced with a computer at the same time, it also comes with combination headset connectors so you can have one over the head, or around the neck or even just hanging over the ear.
I fully recommend them with the 500 series phones.
    Cheers,
    David.

  • Can't add my new license on my cisco 2500 wireless controller

    hello,
i already have 25 license installed on my Cisco 2500 wireless controller.
but when i need add my new bundle license, i can't see him on my admin panel.
i following this steps for installing my new license :
1- i go on WLC panel
    2- management => software activation => commands
    3- i select "install license"
    4- i setting a correct path
5- when i clic on "install license", i can see two following message : "File transfer operation started" and "Installation Process Completed ". but when i go on "licenses" i can't see
    tanks for help

    Hi Serge,
In case you have another license installed on the controller with higher license than the one that you are installing, then the license installation will fail.
In case you want to install a new license with higher number of AP count, then you can install it, then save and reboot the controller.
Also I noticed when you install a new license and the summation of the previously installed license and the newly installed license is exceeding the max allowed AP count on the controller, then the installation will fail.
In such scenario, deactivate the current license by making the evaluation license priority to high, then after that install the new license and then change the priority to medium and make the evaluation license to low in addition to the previous license.
    Kind Regards
    Mohammad Setan

  • Too many errors after upgrading the firmware to 1.0.3.10 on Cisco RV180W wireless router

My company purchased one Cisco RV180W wireless router few days ago and it worked normal with default firmware version of 1.0.0.30. Today I upgraded the firmware to version 1.0.3.10, the users can still access this router via wired and wireless devices, but on the dashboard I observed two major problems, one is the CPU utilization always shows 100%, another is the more and more errors appearing, on the Syslog Summary panel "Error" log has been up to 625 and is still increasing, there is one message repeatedly displaying in the log, see in below:
    Wed Nov 13 13:55:25 2013(GMT+0800) [rv180w][System][PLATFORM] /pfrm2.0/bin/bwLimitConfig /tmp/system.db 18 dot11STA 100 failed. status=-1
Who can tell me what does this error message mean and how to elinate this error message ?  also how to deal with 100% CPU utilization ?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
i have been looking at different VPN routers over the last few weeks and i was very close to buying the RV180W, but then i stumbled across many posts reffering to firmware issues, one issue is that the cpu sits at 100% useage, i just wondered if this is a bug in GUI or is the CPU actually max'd out? has anyone had any resolution into this?
also the firmware on the emulator is a newer version than is listed on the support page, does anyone know when 1.0.3.14 will be released for download?
when i buy a new product i like to ensure that the system is fully upto date before its put into use but i obviously dont want to add any performance issues from the ofset due to the CPU useage.
i also have a could of questions if anyone can help
the Ipsec VPN, will this work with the Built-in VPN client for apple devices? (New IOS7), i am unable to find a quickvpn application for apple IOS.
is the site-to-site IPSec VPN also compatible with the Cisco Wvrs4400n router?
    thanks in advance.

  • Cisco Enterprise Wireless iPad Mini iOS 7.1.1

    Hi,
I am experiencing issues with iPad Mini running iOS version 7.1.1  connecting to a Cisco Enterprise Wireless Network consisting of a Wireless LAN Controller.
The Wireless LAN Controller is running 7.6.120.0.  All laptops, printers, iPad 2 & 3 models, iPhones, tablets, and other wireless devices work fine and do NOT experience connection drops.  However, iPad Mini running iOS verion 7.1.1 experiences randomly Wi-Fi connection drops.  Sometimes when this happens the iPad Minis will reconnect back to Wi-Fi, but most of the time, they do not reconnect.
I have been working with Cisco TAC but they cannot find any reason for disconnect.
I have changed the channel on the Wireless Access Points to Channel 6 and the SSID is open.
I also have 1 iPad Mini running iOS version 6.1.3 that works fine and does not experience these issues.
I also run a FileMaker 13 Database on these iPads using FileMaker Go 13.  The FileMaker database is set to never disconnect on idle nor to never re-authenticate.  But yet the iPads will disconnect from Wi-Fi which interrupts the connection between FileMaker Go and FileMaker Server.

Try double -licking the Home button to bring up the recent apps display. Swipe up on the image of the App Store to terminate it. Restart the App Store to see if you get the proper operation.

  • Cisco Guest Wireless Access Solution - Local Printing

    Hi,
Does Cisco have a solution that provides printing for a guest WLAN. Cisco Guest wireless deployment solutions recommend terminating the guest WLAN on an anchor controller in the DMZ which causes issues when needed to print locally as the print traffic will need to traverse the DMZ anchor controller causing excessive WAN link usage.
Is there a better solution to enable a guest WLAN to print locally?

FlexConnect with Split tunneling may work.
