Cisco Ea4500 limiting my download speed on a wired connection.

If I use my router my download speed is about 55 Mbps, when my PC is plugged directly into my modem my download speed is about 180Mbps. What is going on here?

I recommend: Enable Media PrioritizationUse an accurate Downstream Bandwidth setting (to get accurate numbers connect a computer directly to the ISP modem and run www.speedtest.net internet speed test)Initially keep all devices and app as normal priorityEnable WMM supportUnless required by your ISP disable IPv6 on under Internet connections

  • Only getting 25% download speed with WRTU54G-TM Connected

Just noticed that my bandwidth has significantly decreased in the past 24 hours with my WRTU54G-TM connected.  I was doing some heavy downloading, so I'm not sure if the router has recently adjusted/limited the bandwidth to allow for adequate bandwidth for VOIP.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    With the WRTU54G-TM
    Without

It would/should only be limiting the speed if you're in a VOIP call.
Check the MTU setting and change it lower - see other threads on this in this section of the bulletin board.

  • How does cloud work out in the australian country where I have very slow upload and download speeds and have unreliable connections?

I really just cant get my head around how cloud works when I have such low access to internet downloads..

Under these conditions no service which relies on using a fair amount of bandwidth is going to work. In your situation you may be able to handle a moderate amount of email, calaendars and contacts, though it will be slow to load; but heavy uploading and downloading of for example images in Photo Stream is likely to take so long as to be impracticable.

  • BT Infinity and weird download speeds

    Greetings!
This is the first time I've been with BT, I always had virgin media then when I moved out I was forced to go with Sky for my broadband which they could only manage 3-4mb. I've recently had BT infinity installed (3-4 weeks now) and I'm not sure what to make of it.
Although Sky's download speed was lower, I seemed to get more out of it. In the way of I can see on speedtest.net and speedtester.bt that my ping is low (15ms) and my speed is often between 30-35mb (funnily enough tonight it's sitting at 25mb) however p2p traffic is slow (yes I know it's throttled) but even over Internet explorer it's slow. If I was download a file, say a windows update or a patch for a game with sky I would get a constant 1-2mb download speed with bt it never goes over 200-300kb. Surely this can't be normal?
I may give BT a ring but due to work hours it'll most likely be on the weekend now. Just seems strange that everything points to a decent download speed but when it actually comes to downloading it's pretty slow.
Thanks in advance for any tips/help/suggestions.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. At present I have my laptop done over wireless using a b/g/n/ adapter. To be honest I have yet to try and connect my laptop directly to the router as this kinda defeats the point? I'm assuming you're thinking along the lines of I should get faster download speeds over a wired connection, which i agree with. But, surely 300kb is still low on a 40mb connection?
I'm in work at the moment so can't check out the test results. But will post them later.
    Thanks,

  • Time capsule download speeds are slow

    iMac <======>Time capsule (bridge mode) <=====> 10/100 ethernet switch <====> Comcast router/modem Arris TG862
Multiple iDevices are wirelessly connected to Time capsule because Arris TG862 couldn't handle more than 10 wireless devices without kicking them off.
Time capsule is in bridge mode, 4th gen, 7.6.4.
Have been running this configuration for over a year and download speeds @ 50Mbs for the iMac that is wired to the time capsule and an iMac that is wirelessly connected to time capsule.  AppeTV is hardwired to 10/100 ethernet switch as well, and has never had a problem before download / streaming movies.
In the past week, the wired download speed of the iMac has crawled down to 5-6 Mbs.  Wireless connections are .5-1 Mbs.
I have unplugged all devices, waited 10 mins, plugged in router/modem, waited 5 mins, plugged in switch, waited 1 min, plugged in TC, waited 5 mins, ran a test on Speedtest.net - still getting 5 Mbs wired and slower on wifi.  If I unplug the ethernet cable from the TC (WAN) and plug it into the iMac directly, I get 57 Mbs download speed on Speedtest.net.  Why would the TC suddenly be slowing down download speeds.  In all configurations, the upload speed is still 10-11 Mbs.  It appears that only download speeds are affected.  Any suggestions?

Yes, I've tried moving the ethernet cable from the iMac to a different LAN port on the TC.  Same slow speed.  The wireless download speeds are slow too, seems like the WAN connection is "throttling" download speeds no matter if it's wired or wireless.
I have pressed the reset button on the back of the TC until the front light blinks amber.  Then I went thru the setup to have it connected Ethernet, Bridge mode, create a wireless network, and DHCP from the router.  I got 12 Mbs download speed for the wired connection after doing this the first time.  Fifteen minutes later I tested it again using Speedtest.net and the download speed for the wired connection had fallen to 5 Mbs.  I unplugged the TC, waited a half hour, held the reset button down while I plugged it in, went thru the setup again, and still had a download speed of only 4 Mbs when I was done.
I assumed if the switch on the TC went bad that it wouldn't work at all, not just be slow.
    Any other suggestions?

USB speed is limited to the speed of all the connected devices on the same bus. The bus is the portion of the computer's data traffic cop that connects several USB devices at once. Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More Info to determine if there are any slower items connected to the same bus. Some USB ports may connect to a different bus under the USB section. If you want to see which bus a device has moved to after physically moving it, select Refresh from the View menu. Additionally some USB non-Apple devices may trip up if you put your machine to sleep either but closing the lid, or manually from the Apple menu, or automatically through the timer in the Energy Saver System Preferences. Some of these connection devices have latency issues. This means, they need a place to store their downloads before they come onto your computer. It may be their driver on the PC has settings to store something on the machine directly. Make sure your Mac isn't too full*:

  • BT Infinity Download speed

Just thought I would share some good info. I have the 40mb package, moved over from Virgin last week, normally I get between 36 & 38.5Mbs download speed. This morning connected to Giganews via their VPN and getting between 70 & 75Mbs. So far I am very satisfied with the service I am getting.

What is your speed after a test with the BT tester? I would think that is more accurate, Giganews is like P2P yes?

sky twitter account a customer ask why sky go streams are worst then sd and yet bt and eurosports apps stream in hd. Reply from mod, oh thats easy the files for hd are some huge that sky go can't play them and no app can stream hd due to this and so when they say they are they're really sd streams, if there was any way around this we would have done it now.

  • Slow download speed

Trying to download Adobe Standard and experiencing extremely slow download speeds. My internet connect is good, and I've tried restarting. nothing seems to be working.

Out of curiosity I just downloaded Acrobat XI Standard from http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-downloads.html
The download completed within less than 3 minutes, and I am 10,000km away from the Adobe download servers, at the other side of the Pacific ocean.

  • 2009 Macbook issue: download speed limitation

    Hi
Mi wife got a late 2009 white macbook that's driving me crazy. Despite we got a 7Mbit ADSL connection and all others macs at home (we got 2 more 2008 macbooks and a 2008 macbook pro) with the very same OS version (10.6.4) and network settings are working properly and downloading at full speed, her one looks to have some kind of speed limitation in download to around 1.5 Mbps.
The ping and upload speeds are the very same of other computers, and apparently randomly the download speed also on that computer gets back to around 7 Mbps...
I just spent the afternoon doing tests and I got nowhere but maybe I found a pattern...
    First what I excluded:
-doesn't depend on how it's hooked to the net, same behavior by ethernet or wifi in both cases the other service was off
-any other mac using the same connection is working properly, did side by side tests
-ping is always the same on both computers used for test
-it is not a DNS issue
-deleted and created a new position in Network panel
    -did several restarts, no solution
-doesn't depend on a specific app being used (but maybe apps can matter, see below)
-none of possible fixes I found online did work
-probably it isn't related to OS version or updates, this issue has likely been there since a lot of time, and over more os updates (not really sure of this, we had unrelated netwok issues and changed provider for that reason in last year, we cot a stable and uniform environment just recently)
    Now what I noticed:
-As soon as the computer is started and I open a single browser (be it Safari, Chrome or Firefox doesn't change) speedtest.net test is ok, 7Mbps download.
-work and navigate with it, it's ok, download speed remains 7Mbps
-As soon another internet using application is opened (Mail, another browser) the connection speed drops to 1.5 Mbps (this is ALWAYS the limit, no relevant fluctuation in this)
-If I close any of above apps and remain with a single browser, running tests initially report still the 1.5 limit, but shortly after (one or two minutes) the speed gets back to 7Mbps
My wife needs to work with Mail, Skype, and at least two browsers open, so this limit is giving her great troubles

    taylor.henderson wrote:
-none of possible fixes I found online did work
This doesn't really help narrow down the problem
    {quote}
doh, you are right... sorry... the possible fixes I had found around are the ones reported right before...
Create a new user account on the problem computer and see if the slow speeds and strange behaviour persists in it.
    I did, it does...
    - created a new user and logged in
    - opened Safari, speedtest returns 7Mbit/s in download
    - opened Firefox, after a little speed drops to 1.4
    - some successive test starts slow (1.4) then sometimes speeds up, but most remain at 1.4
    - start chrome too, same behaviour
    - close Safari and Firefox, wait a little (1 or 2 minutes) do the test with Chrome, back to 7Mbit/s
Then go through stuff like this http://www.gballard.net/macrant/osx_troubleshooting.html.
I went through it and did most of what's suggested there (it's a little complex because when I am not working my wife is usually using her macbook to study and needs to use it all the time)...
    - unused disk space is 95,6 GB
    - booted in single user mode and did a fsck -fy
    - repaired permissions
Nothing changed, both the behavior takes place in new user account, and in main one, where any internet using application (Mail, Skype...) opened together causes the download slow down...

  • Airport Time capsule behind cisco router download speed

My airport time capsule  is connected to the internet in bridge mode via a cisco router.
The cisco router provides a 99Mbps download speed. However, when I " bridge"  my time capsule in between (wired) the speed slows down to 9 Mbps.
I have already tried to assign a static DHCP IP to my time capsules MAC address and disabled DMZ for that specific IP address, but am failing to get the speed up to par.
    Any suggestions?

I have used Time capsule 1.5 year behind a copperjet  modem on ADSL, no problems.
Changed provider and am connected by cable with new cisco modem including router.
So the set up looks like:
    internet>cisco modem/router>airport time capsule>macbook pro
The cisco modem without airport time capsule is working ok: when logged in speed is 99 Mbps as it should be (wired and wireless)
Connecting cisco router with UTP cable to time capsule and time capsule with UTP to macbook slows down speed to 9 Mbps
    (time capsule in bridgemode)
    Specs:
    Macbook pro OSX yosemite
    Airport Time capsule 2TB 2013 (v 7.7.3)
    Cisco modem/router:EPC3928

  • Download speeds limited to 8-9mbps for FIOS 35 service?

I've *NEVER* had a problem with verizon fios download speeds until last night (7/11) and today.  I've always been able to achieve the d/l speeds of whatever my service is.  When I had 50mbps service, I'd get 50mbps download.  Now I only have 35mbps service and I've always got 35mbps service *until yesterday.   Now my download speeds through various services and bandwidth tests seem to be capped at 8-9mbps.  Is anyone else seeing this sudden drop and cap in download speed??  I'm located in Atco in South Jersey.

Ok on the 35 mb/s standard in your location.
I doubt Verizon is deliberately capping you.
Are you using a few different servers at www.speedtest.net to test your speed?
Do you have more than one device (Mac or PC) you run the tests with and get the same results?
If the answer is yes to both of those troubleshooting questions, I'd suggest you call Verizon tech support and ask for help with the problem.  It could be local to your ONT or something else at their end than needs looking into and correcting.
    Good luck.

  • Transmit rate vs. Download speed: should I switch everything to 5GHZ or does it matter?

Thanks in advance for any help that you can give me. I am not well-schooled in networking so, after doing a lot of research and not being able to get clarity, I figured I would write what I understand and hope that somebody here could point me in the right direction. I have 3 airport stations (a time capsule dual band is the primary and 2 airport expresses) and they are all ethernet wired. All my devices are 802.11n capable and all the base stations are n capable. I have no strictly b/g devices, only n devices. No matter what base station a device is connected to, the speedtest.net rate is about 17mbps (I pay for 18mbps) so that is good. However, the "transmit rate" (and I don't really understand what this does) varies depending on what base station my device hooks into. Whenever I am near the time capsule (primary station), my devices hook in at 5Ghz and I get a transmit rate of about 240 to 300 and a 17mbps download speed. But when I hook into either of the other 2 aiport expresses, it shows that I am hooked into 2.4Ghz and the transmit rate is about 50 to 130, but I still get the 17mbps download speed. I know I can change both expresses to only do 5Ghz. Keep in mind, the speedtest.net test always shows about 17mbps download speed no matter what base station my device connects to. I am not sure I understand what the transmit rate indicates. I want to make my network the fastest it can be no matter what base station I use.
So, my question is should I change the other 2 airport extreme base stations to operate as 5Ghz n network only so that I have 5Ghz operating throughout my whole house which will give a higher "transmit rate" and will that make my experience faster even though I already get maximum 17mbps download speed? Also, if you could, please explain to me the difference between ISP download speed and "transmit rate" because I don't really understand the difference...I mean how does download speed affect my experience vs. how does transmit rate affect my experience? Do I really need to have a higher "transmit rate" to increase my speed or is just having 17mbps download speed necessary and the transmit rate doesn't matter?
One other thing you might need to know: I don't have any 2.4 ghz devices that might interfere with my network (my cordless phones are 1.9Ghz)
    Thanks again for the help.

Think of it like this.. Change moving data in air to water in pipes.
You have a 1/2" pipe coming from the ISP into your house..
Inside your house you have 5" and 2" pipes.. (this represents the speeds or flow rate if you like, 1/2" is all the ISP gives you.. but your ethernet is a huge pipe.. think of it as infinite for this situation,, and 5" pipe that is 5ghz and 2" pipe is 2.4ghz.. this is just illustration remember it is area not diameter that matters).
If you transfer files between the computer on the TC to the TC hard disk.. you get all the 5" pipe.. very fast.
If you copy a file between computer on the TC and device on the express.. you are limited by the 2" pipe.. everything goes at the speed the 2" pipe can manage.
Now you do something with internet.. 5" pipe can get the same throughput as the 2" pipe because it is only 1/2"
Pipes btw are still in imperial even if you are in a metric country pretty often.
But I hope that illustrates the situation..
If a computer on 5" pipe and computer on 2" pipe are both trying to access internet .. they both still have to share the 1/2" pipe. In a perfect world they both get half your 18mbps if they are accessing it at the same time.. (QoS represent a flow valve that says this pipe should get more flow even if it is smaller so I shut the valve down on 5" to make sure it only gets what the 2" can get.. no more.. to be fair.).
Same as water in pipes.. the 1/2" pipe can never fill the 5" or even the 2" pipe.. the 2" cannot fill the 5" so the fastest would be everything on 5" pipes.. since you are unlikely to be able to afford a 5" pipe from the ISP then you accept everything is going to go slower when internet is involved.
    Jumping out of my illustration..
Apple made 2.4ghz max out at 150mbps..
Although some of the later stuff can get better than that,, 217mbps.
The 5ghz is faster because it is has more bandwidth.. up to 1200mbps in the newest AC .. 450 on Gen3,4 TC and 300 on the older gen1,2
BUT the range is poor.. so generally better sticking with 2.4ghz for express.. they are not high power devices at all.
2.4ghz  has better range and penetration.. you are going to be just fine with internet access.. and your setup is actually working really well.. There are some overheads on wireless so you do not quite hit wired speeds.

  • IPhone truncated download speed?

We have 7mb download speeds at our home. I check the speed via our laptops and indeed it is 7mb. When I test the speed via the iPhone the best it can do is 2mb. Is there an issue with my iPhone or is this simply a limitation on the hardware?

Cool idea. Yea, I am at work now and we have a T1. I just used the same app for the test that you did and the download speeds are upwards 12MB. Also, I used that same app to test at home. So, the truncated iPhone NIC theory is now officially toasted. The question does remain as to why this happens with the iPhone. Case in point: a Macintosh and two PCs have a steady 6.5mb average download and on the same network the iPhone is chugging along at 2mb.

  • Q180 Slow Download Speeds

Just got my Q180 setup last night. It is connected to my Wireless N network. Noticed that while watching YouTube videos is was running out of buffer frequently. Decided to run a speed test on www.speedtest.net. Results show .65mb down speed and 6.5 mb up speed. My service should be 20mb down and 10mb up. So the up speed seems accurate, but the download speed is TERRIBLE, it's running at about 2% what it should be. I ran the same speed test using my laptop, from the same location and achieved 18mbps down and 6.5 up.
Is this a limitation of the Q180, or is there something wrong or a setting that I have to set to fix this issue? Honestly this thing is pretty much useless to me without a better download speed, after all, just about the only reason I got this was to do internet stuff on my livingroom TV.
    Thanks,
    Josh
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Unfortunately, I still have the same problem with this computer. I get very slow wireless connection speeds. I've tried 3 different wireless routers. I've moved it around. I've updated the wireless driver. Still get an average of 1-2mbps download speed and .5mbps upload speed on a 20down/10up connection. Each time I think the problem is resovled, the next time I use the computer, it's back again. The thing is pretty useless. I've never been able to turn it on and just go watch a video on YouTube on my TV, which was more or less the only reason I bought this thing, so it was a waste of money. And no help comes from the forums apparently either.
