Cisco Gateway constantly disconnecting, logs aren't helpful

This has been going on for weeks, already talked to support who walked me through the usual power cycling, the morning the tech came out there was no problem, he found nothing wrong, I asked him to not swap it out, then later problems started happening again. The logs are almost useless, including anything in the gateway's interface; nobody's ever told me that they're helpful either. Are there any extraneous diagnostic tools I can use with the DPC3941T gateway? The techs literally have replaced the modems about every 6 months even if they're mine or theirs. This is all there is in logs: [Docsis][552]: Received Response to Broadcast Maintenance Request, But no Unicast Maintenance opportunities received - T4 time out[Docsis][552]: No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out[Dhcpc][1571]: erouter0 got new IP ### EDIT: The main point of this post is to get advice on getting more information than what is available, because Comcast and their techs were telling me absolutely nothing was wrong with anything and they were just going to swap my modem, so they didn't think it was an RF issue, just a bad modem. The problem here is that I'm not seeing how to get more particular info on what the problem is.

Suit myself? Are you understanding that there's nothing indicating it's an RF issue? Modem internet disconnection logs don't indicate RF issues, and just to put a nail in that coffin, I've never had any trouble connecting to any of the other devices on the network or transfering files. The problem has always been losing internet, even on wired devices (of which I have two). How does losing internet over a wired device indicate an RF issue? I started having problems again even with the old modem (which had a ton of T3/T4 issues), and the Comcast tech was going to come out today but they called me and said they fixed a line issue and there was nothing wrong with any of my stuff. So sorry it's not an RF issue like you think, but this has nothing to do with "suiting myself" because I don't care what the problem is, I just want it fixed. So suit yourself in thinking it's still an RF issue.

  • Brand new iMac freezes constantly! Updates aren't helping!

    Hello everyone,
This past Sunday I bought a brand new iMac intel Core 2 Duo with a 250 GB HDD and 1 GB of RAM. At home I set it up with my SAMSUNG 1080p 22" monitor, Apple bluetooth Keyboard and mightymouse, and a Western Digital 350 GB HDD hooked up via USB. I was excited to finally jump on the intel-based Mac bandwagon, as well as experience dual monitors for the first time.
That was Sunday. Tuesday evening I was watching "Rome" on itunes on my Samsung monitor while surfing the web with Omniweb on the iMac monitor. All of sudden, everything locked up. I was able to move my cursor, but nothing responeded to my clicking. I hard booted the system and loaded everything I had going again, and sure enough, it locked up a few moments later. I ran system update, updated everything, then restarted. Time went by and although not immediatly, later that night it froze up on me again.
Fast forward to last nite, and the freezing reached and all time high. 5 times. Each time was when I had a browser open in my iMac window and I had Quicktime playing in my Samsung monitor. I was watching a sports program, with the player fit to the screen.
I have read many posts about intel iMacs freezing late last year, but there was a firmware update that evidently fixed that. I have this update installed, and I have had no luck. I have even contacted Apple Care via phone where I got instructed to unplug everything, plug it back in, start in safe mode, and delete cache. That didn't help me out at all. Am I right insuspecting I have a faulty Video card? I just ordered 4GB of RAM, could this be a RAM issue?

When diagnostics are run on a freezing computer and nothing shows, I'll put the program into a testing loop because this means one of two things: the issue is heat related so running the diagnostics several more times will bring on the heat so that the issue shows up or the installed RAM is marginal, just flaky enough to show up now and again but not so far off that a run through of the memory test catches it on the first run.
As I said in my original post, memory is always a suspect in a freezing or kernel panicking computer. And it does tend to top my list. But from what you describe I'm not quite willing to say, "Why don't you just wait until the RAM upgrade arrives?"

  • E2000 Constantly disconnects from XBOX Live

I'm  not having an NAT issue, but my e2000 is constantly disconnecting from XBOX Live. About every 3-5 minutes I get disconnected. My wireless is working perfectly, this is only an issue with XBOX Live.
I've followed all the examples on the forums here, like:
    http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/Wireless-Routers/Need-HELP-to-change-NAT-type-to-open-on-Linksys-E...
    and
    http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/Wireless-Routers/Open-NAT-xbox-live-problems/td-p/337375
and I have double checked every setting. I'm not sure what is causing this issue.
I've set the MTU, unchecked UPnP, entered port forwarding range to XBOX's static IP address, and set the DMZ to my XBOX's MAC address.
So, what is causing my router to constantly disconnect?

    Try the following steps:
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] Then Click on wireless Tab select Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, and 11. Click Save Settings....
B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the username field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.

  • SOLUTION to your HP printer going offline and/or constantly disconnecting from the network

If you are having a problem printing, scanning or faxing with any HP Printer because of it going offline and constantly disconnecting from the network, here is the fix!
I figured this all out after many unsuccessful attempts with HP Support, my Internet Service Provider and various troubleshooting tasks including reinstalling HP software over and over and over.  Well, through self teaching on the internet and 6 grueling months of research, I FINALLY figured it out.  OMG!  I am a Paramedic (not IT) and somewhat computer literate but by far no expert.  I here all of you!  Nobody seems to have the answer but I am 97% sure that I do.  Either way, please reply back and let me know that this did in fact work for you!  :-)
It doesn't matter if your printer is installed wirelessly or wired.  Don’t worry about reinstalling your software, no recycling your printers’ power or your Router/Modem.  The reason your printer is unstable on the network and continues to either go offline or disconnect from the network is NOT because the software is glitched, it’s not a firewall problem per say, it’s not a router problem, there isn’t a problem with your power cord, it’s because most networks use a “range” of IP addresses and for security purposes, it sort of “cycles” the various devices’ IP addresses to decrease the chance of an attack.  A printer is no threat but the “network” doesn’t possess human intelligence so it doesn’t know this.  Below are my step by step instructions on how to basically make your printer hold its IP address (static IP) instead of changing back and forth through a cycle therefore dropping your printer off the network or disconnecting.
Funny, if you are someone who has had items in your print cue, they won’t print, and you turn your printer off and then back on and suddenly your documents print…well, join my club.  The reason this works is because when you first turn on the printer, it starts with the same IP address before it cycles.  If you are someone who sits there for a while and suddenly your documents print without you changing anything…this is because through the IP cycle change, it hits your printers IP address and the network will allow it to print.  Not very funny, I know.  It took me forever to figure out why my printer would print sometimes but not all the time.  Since I figured this out, I can SCAN, PRINT and use all of the features of my installed HP software such as HP Solution Center, Photosmart Essentials.
On your printer, go to menu/setup/network and press OK.  Inside the network menu, print a "network configuration page" so you can see the IP address and other settings for your printer.
Now, go back to main menu on your printers’ screen.  Or you can go to your web browser and type in the IP address using the decimals too and this will take you to your printers’ web page.  Choose: setup\network and press OK.  Look for IP settings and press OK. Choose "manual" instead of "automatic". Enter the IP address there manually as well as the default gateway which you can see on the network configuration page that you printed earlier.  Note: If you manually set the printer's IP, make sure that it is outside of your router's DHCP range. Otherwise you may run into an issue with duplicate IP's on your network. (If you don’t know how to do this, write back and I will explain).  Don’t forget to click “save changes”.  Now, restart your computer and print anything you want.  :-)
A trick I often use with printers in DHCP networks:
In Printers and Faxes right click on the printer and select “properties”.  Click add a new port.  Choose standard TCP/IP port configured to the printer host name. Read the hostname from the printer's network configuration sheet.
Using my method means that you always connect to the printer even if its IP changes (which may happen with dynamic configuration). This does not jeopardize your network security.  It just tells your printer to stay put and stop traveling the IP address highway.  :-)
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The DHCP range is the range of IP addresses the router hands out automatically as devices join the network.  The DHCP range is determined by the router and each brand has a range set at the factory (that can be changed by you).
Your D-link's DHCP default range is 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.199.  So, outside the DHCP range is .2 to .99 and .200 to .254.
Attached is a handy cheat sheet.
You can change this range by entering the router's settings page - type the router's IP address into a browser, enter the login info and navigate to the DHCP settings area (varies based on router, hunt around).
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Magic mouse constantly disconnects and can't get it to connect without rebooting the computer.  Anyone else have this issue

How do you solve the problem of the magic mouse constantly disconnecting?  I have changed the batteries and turn it on and off, but the only way to get it to reconnect seems to be re-starting the computer.  Any thoughts?  Thank you.

    Greetings Beth,
Wireless devices are susceptible to interference.  Review this article for common sources: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3048#5
They are also very sensitive to low power.  Make sure you are using VERY fresh batteries.  If they have been sitting on a shelf for months they don't count as fresh IMO.
Troubleshooting steps to try after you read that article at the top:
Remove the following to the trash: Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences > com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
Restart the computer and re-pair the mouse and keyboard
If issue persists reset the SMC:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If the issue persists reset the PRAM:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    Hope that helps!

  • How do I make sure I don't constantly get logged out of my google account in Safari?

I use Google Reader, Calendar/Tasks etc as a bookmarked site in Safari on my iPhone (4S). I constantly getted logged out everyday and have to keep logging back in, authenticating (2 step auth. setup) and it's extremely irritating and I often just not use my phone and wait until I get home.
    Any ideas?
Your help would be greatly appreciated!

The Google app does exactly the same thing for me. It does however keep me logged into the app, but as soon as I choose which Google service I wish to use (ie Reader, Tasks etc) then I have been logged out.
Also, I don't use any exchange features, it's just a personal phone with no special setups.

  • Skype constantly disconnecting and muting others' voices

I'm on Windows 8.1, and am running the most current version of Skype.Despite this, in the past couple of days alone, Skype has started acting up. I will go on skype, it will load every message just fine, I can join calls, I can talk and be heard, video works fine both ways, and I can message... Just that I can't hear what anybody in a call is saying. I can hear the notifications and the test sound, but not my friends' voices. What's more perplexing is that after 10 minutes or so I can start hearing them. Which brings me to the second problem... I only have so much time before skype disconnects me. I have been constantly disconnected from Skype despite a continuous internet connection. Somebody please help!

Make a direct connection from your PC/laptopto the modem which will eliminate the homehub. Follow this guide to do that. Use your computer as normal to see if it disconnects. If it does not disconnect you will know that there is nothing wrong with your line/connection and it may be a faulty hub . Obviously this must be done with a wired connection and no wireless devices will work while you are doing that.
Step 1: Remove the homehub from the modem
Step2: Connect your pc/laptop into the modem using LAN1 port
Step3: Open network and sharing centre on windows and click set up a new connection or network
Step4: Connect to the internet then click make a new connection Broadband PPPoE
Step5: Username [email protected] and the password as BT
Step6: connect, If it doesn't,keep pressing try again until it does.

  • Verizon 4G LTE Router constantly disconnecting and other issues

My Verizon 4G LTE Router constantly disconnects. It requires a power off reset to come back on. Unfortunately, I dumped a perfectly reliable DSL connection for this. Worse yet, it is in a second home, and used to remotely monitor my temperature and security camera. I'm an not there every hour of the day to power cycle this totally unreliable device!
Also,I've had this device for a couple of months now, and have yet to be able to get my security cameras working. Now I can't even tell if my furnace is on - with winter coming if I can't monitor the temperature remotely, my pipes and well pump could be seriously damaged. What is going on with this thing????

Blazey, I appreciate you trying to help.
So, what you are saying is I have a few options:
         1) Do nothing and keep paying for a service and hardware combination I purchased directly from Verizon that doesn't work
         2) Spend $600 on top of what I have already spent to get limping along
         3) Spend $600 + buy another more reliable router that doesn't hang all the time
Where is option #4 - Verizon should fix their problem(s), or release me from my contractual obligation so I can go back to a rock steady DSL connection!
This is totally unacceptable.. I am not trying to use some 3rd party hardware on their network. I purchased this directly from Verizon so I DIDN'T have to worry about it working. They swore to me that this would be a plug in replacement for my DSL. Now after some more reading I discover it is not even close. It does not support port forwarding without shelling out another $500 for a static IP. I can assure you, I did not pay for this with ATT's DSL service. I feel duped and am pretty outraged by this.
What's worse is, I do not have "eye's" on my vacation home almost 300 miles away while this is happening. A little difficult to just "pop" over and reset it - which is what Verizon support suggested I do.

  • Collect cdr from cisco gateway AS5300 into a database in realtime

    Hello !!
somebody knows how can i collect cdr from cisco gateway AS5300 into a database in realtime?
    Regards

You can use gw-accounting as explained below:
    gw-accounting
To enable an accounting method for collecting call detail  records (CDRs), use the gw-accounting command in global  configuration mode. To disable an accounting method, use the no form of this command.
    gw-accounting {aaa | file | syslog [stats] }
    no gw-accounting {aaa | file | syslog [stats] }
    gw-accounting {h323 [vsa] | syslog | voip}
    no gw-accounting {h323 [vsa] | syslog | voip}
    Syntax Description
    aaa
Enables accounting through the AAA system and sends call  detail records to the RADIUS server in the form of vendor-specific attributes  (VSAs).
    file
Enables the file accounting method to store call detail  records in .csv format.
    syslog
Enables the system logging facility to output accounting  information in the form of a system log message.
    stats
(Optional) Enables voice quality statistics to be sent to the  system log.
    h323
Enables standard H.323 accounting using Internet Engineering  Task Force (IETF) RADIUS attributes.
    vsa
(Optional) Enables H.323 accounting using RADIUS VSAs.
    voip
    Enables generic gateway-specific accounting.
You can find more info in cisco IOS voice command reference guide.
This is an example to collect CDR of H.323 calls via RADIUS:
    gw-accounting syslog
    gw-accounting aaa
    attribute acct-session-id overloaded
    attribute h323-remote-id resolved
    acct-template callhistory-detail

  • Wireless constantly disconnects

    Hi,
I am running an extremely old laptop (inspiron 4100) with lxde. The card I am using is a linksys PCMCIA the chipset is BCM4306 Rev 3.
The wireless would constantly disconnect and not reconnect using "Network-manager". I am now trying to connect manually from terminal using iwconfig (the internet here only has WEP) and it is not doing any better. Is this a driver issue most likely? Should I try to reinstall the network card?

Do you actually know from using other networks that the problem isn't the signal? Constant disconnects have only ever bugged me when the signal was weak or the connection really strained.

  • My internet continually disconnects.  When I added my airport express, I had to call Verizon (my provider) and have them "bridge" my modem.  Ever since, my connection constantly disconnects and puts up the message "Could not find a PPPoE server".

You should restore your modem to router condition and set the Airport Express to 'Bridge Mode'. A full explanation and the method of doing this is here:

  • My mac osx 10.7.3 constantly disconnects from airport internet.

my mac osx 10.7.3 constantly disconnects from airport internet. I am able to reconnect every time but do this every 10 mins. i went to try and change channel but no airport base stations were found. i am positive it is not the router as all other devices stay connected. cant find any answers to my problem, just tons of others with the same issue!!!!

You can't discount your router just because the other devices work. The first thing I'd recommend doing is restarting the modem and router, then checking the router has the most up-to-date firmware (need to check that owners manual) and then you can check some other things like DNS settings and router channel conflicts with neighbors.
After restarting the router and double checking the firmware is up-to-date then I'd recommend checking the channel your router is on and what your neighbors use. You can download and use iStumbler, this will scan your area. If you are like most users neither you or your neighbors have changed the router channel from the default 5 or 6 channel. Look to see what channels are not being used and reset the router's channel. If that doesn't work then reset the DNS settings from the defaults your ISP uses. If you get to the point where the DNS does need to be reset here are the instructions:
    1. System preferences
    2. Network
    3. Click Advanced
    4. Click DNS tab
    5. Click + sign
    6. Add 208.67.222.222
    7. Click + sign
    8. Add 208.67.220.220
    9. Click OK.
    10. Exit System Preferences
If you want more info on the DNS please read CNET's DNS Article and MacWorld's DNS Troubleshooting articles. If all that fails then you can simply toggle the wi-fi on and off on the w-fi menu in the upper right of your screen.

    Hello,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitirion & use Disk Utility from there.
