Cisco ISE 1.2 TLS 1.1 and 1.2

I'm currently running ISE 1.2 patch 6 and I'm noticing that ISE does not use TLS 1.1 or 1.2 for the admin portal or the sponsor portal. I haven't tested the guest portal, but I'm assuming it applies there as well.
Is the future release of ISE going to support the more secure TLS versions?

I installed ise 1.3 and tried all cipher suites.
For me it seems that ISE 1.3 uses only following 3 cipher-suites
AES256-SHA
AES128-SHA
DES-CBC3-SHA
https://www.openssl.org/docs/apps/ciphers.html#CIPHER_SUITE_NAMES
-> TLS1.0 suites

Cisco ISE FlexAuth with 802.1X PCs and IP Phones as MAB multi-domain Q?
Im trying to follow the trustsec 2.1 guide on IP Phones into LowImpact mode.
I can get a PC on its own to authenticate via dot1x/tls
I can get a Cisco IP Phone on its own to authenticate via MAB.
When the two are on the same switchport, the phone will authenticate but not the PC.  ISE logs EAP timeouts.
The switchport has the LowImpact port ACL of

The IP Phone gets a dACL that allows it ok.
I assume MAB phone and dot1x PC is supported?  Any ideas?

  • Cisco ISE and Switch 3560-X

    Good Morning,
I am conducting an implementation of Cisco ISE version 1.2.1.198 with all its features on a switch 3560-X and in the ISE compatibility chart the minimum version for this switch would be the IOS v 15.0.2-SE2 (ED).
My doubt is whether i need the feature ipbase or just the lanbase would be sufficient to meet all the features of 802.1x for the Cisco ISE.
I appreciate the attention and Thanks,

Please see the "Cisco Secure Access and Cisco TrustSec Release 5.0 System Bulletin".
It notes that the 3560-X requires IP base license for all the 802.1X features.

  • Cisco ISE throws "11036 The Message-Authenticator RADIUS attribute is invalid "

    Hello,
I am trying to authenticate my server(running an NMS) with an Cisco ISE with EAP-TLS protocol.
I am seeing "11036 The Message-Authenticator RADIUS attribute is invalid " in the ISE when the ACCESS-REQUEST is sent from NMSServer to ISE. The RADIUS shared secret key is same in both the NMS server and the ISE server .
Is the some java samples for Message authenticator attribute which I can refer. I think, I am missing something in Message authenticator attribute.
Any pointers or suggestions to overcome this ?

To login to Prime GUI, the authentication will be done by ISE.
The flow goes like this, Admins will login to Prime GUI with default username/pwd and add the RADIUS/ISE details to it which will be used by prime for authentication/authorization.
Once its done, any other user who tries to login to Prime GUI with their own credentials will be validated against the Identity details in ISE. So even to login to Prime GUI, authentication should be successful in ISE.

  • Cisco ISE 1.1.2.145 Admin Authentication using LDAP

I have configured the LDAP and able to retrive our LDAP directory structure. Now, I am trying to point the 'Admin Access' authentication to "External Identity" Source which is the new LDAP IS I created. But I couldn't find an option to authenticate locally if for any reason the LDAP configuration doesn't work. I learnt that ISE can automatically revert to local auth provided the External Idenitity sources are unreachable. How can I test the LDAP authentication with out breaking our Admin Access? I thought of opening two parallel sessions, one with Super Admin Local Account and the other with Domain account. But I noticed that ISE communication is smart enough to logoff/login any other sessions in different browsers so basically I can't open two parallel sessions from same machine to do the tests. Suggestions? or Am I missing something here?
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi Srinivas,
Even if you set up LDAP as an External Identity source for admin access, you can still fallback to Internal without getting locked out. As per the ISE user guide :
During operation, Cisco ISE is designed to "fall  back" and attempt to perform authentication from the internal identity  database, if communication with the external identity store has not been  established or if it fails. In addition, whenever an administrator for  whom you have set up external authentication launches a browser and  initiates a login session, the administrator still has the option to  request authentication via the Cisco ISE local database by choosing  "Internal" from the Identity Store drop-down selector in the login dialog.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ise/1.1/user_guide/ise_man_identities.html#wp1351543
Please refer to the attached screenshot from my lab ISE:
I have configured admin authentication against AD, but I still see both "Internal" and "AD" at the time of login.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Aastha

  • Posture setup in Cisco ISE

    Dears
I am trying to configure the posture for the ISE but the result is always " Posture status : pending " and the agent can access all network resources without any problem .
    please help

    Please review the below steps:
Step 1 Choose Administration > System > Deployment >  Deployment.
The Deployment navigation menu appears. Use the  Table view or the List view button to display the
    nodes in your deployment.
Step 2 Click the Table view.
Step 3 Click the quick picker (right arrow)  icon to view the nodes that are registered in your deployment.
The Table view displays all the nodes that are  registered in a row format in the Deployment Nodes page.
The Deployment Nodes page displays the Cisco ISE  nodes that you have registered along with their
names, personas, roles, and the replication status  for the secondary nodes in your deployment.
Step 4 Choose a Cisco ISE node from the  Deployment Nodes page.
Note If you have more than one node that is  registered in a distributed deployment, all the nodes that
you have registered appear in the Deployment Nodes  page, apart from the primary node. You
have the option to configure each node as a Cisco  Cisco ISE node (Administration, Policy
Service, and Monitoring personas) or an Inline  Posture node.
    Step 5 Click Edit.
The Edit Node page appears. This page contains the  General settings tab that is used to configure the
Cisco ISE deployment. This page also features the  Profiling Configuration tab, which is used to
configure the probes on each node.
Note If you have the Policy Service persona  disabled, or if enabled but the Enable Profiler services
option is not selected, then the Cisco ISE  administrator user interface does not display the
Profiling Configuration tab. If you have the Policy  Service persona disabled on any Cisco ISE
node, Cisco ISE displays only the General settings  tab. It does not display the Profiling
Configuration tab that prevents you from  configuring the probes on the node.
Step 6 On the General settings tab, check  the Policy Service check box, if it is already active.
If the Policy Service check box is unchecked, both  the session services and the Profiler service check
    boxes are disabled.
Step 7 For the Policy Service persona to run  the Network Access, Posture, Guest, and Client Provisioning
session services, check the Enable Session Services  check box, if it is not already active. To stop the
session services, uncheck the Enable Session  Services check box.
The posture service only runs on Cisco Cisco ISE  nodes that assume the Policy Service persona
and does not run on Cisco Cisco ISE nodes that  assume the administration and monitoring
    personas in a distributed deployment.
Step 8 Click Save to save the node  configuration.

  • Cisco ISE 1.2 and AD Group

    Hello,
I have Cisco ISE installed on my EXSi server for my test pilot. I have added several AD groups to ISE as well.
I have created an Authorization policy condition, which is WIRELESS_DOT1X_USERS (see screenshot)
Basically, I just duplicated the default Wireless_802.1X and added Network Access:EapAuthentication, Equals, EAP-TLS.
My problem is, I was unable to join the wireless network if I added my AD group to the Authorization policy (see screenshot). The user that I have is a member of WLAN-USERS. If I removed the AD group from the Authorization policy, the use is able to join the wireless network.
I attached the ISE logs screenshot as well. I checked the ISE, AD/NPS, WLC, laptop time and date, and they are all in synched.
I also have the WLC added as NPS client on my network.
I checked the AD log and what I found was the WLCs local management user trying to authenticate. It is supposed to be my wireless user credential not the WLC.
This is the log that I got from the AD/NPS
Network Policy Server denied access to a user.
Contact the Network Policy Server administrator for more information.

    Thank you Tarik,
I got my AD group working. What I did, I checked the user's certificate that is installed on the laptop then modified the ISE certificate authentication profile to "Subject Alternative Name". I had the ISE set to common name when I was having an issue.
I forgot to mentioned that I have to servers in my ISE test pilot. I have AD with NPS, and CA. These servers are Windows 2008 R2.
I am a little confuse about the attribute in certificate template you have mentioned. Is that located at Certificate Authority/server-name/Certificate Templates/Users? I am not sure where to look for that attribute on the CA server.

  • Cisco ISE 1.2 AD Auth and Internal Auth on Same SSID?

Hello everyone... I'm fairly new to Cisco ISE 1.2 and am looking to try and setup a certain configuration.  I'm trying to figure out how to create what amounts to a BYOD dmz'd wireless network that is PEAP based (or tls) but authenticates known users (employees from AD groups) but for users not found in those AD groups uses the internal user database and/or Web Auth?  Make sense?
So, I of course can get the Authentication/Authorization policies configured for PEAPTLS  and make to AD based on group and provide a VLAN number.  No problem... I'm having trouble wrapping my head around how to combine the internal users or web auth users in this mix on the same ssid?  I know by reading the ISE statement that the authentication policy if PEAP/TLS, ect is used, then a user not found is rejected and does not continue...  Can someone provide an example as to how to accomplish this?
As a side note in 1.2, is there the ability to limit the number of consective logins as in ACS, outside of guess access only? What about in 1.3, which makes me nervous to upgrade in reading the instructions and the 'newness' of it.
Thank you for any help, it's greatly appreciated.

I'd like to confirm if the required changes in the VM server were
made, as there are a few changes in the ISE OS. The changes required are
listed in the release notes, under "VMware Operating System to be
Changed to RHEL 5 (64-bit)". Here's a direct link to the relevant section:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ise/1.2/release_notes/ise12_rn.html#wp384531
    Other causes can be :-

  • Cisco ISE functionally and license

    HI.
I wanna configure the following on Cisco ISE 1.2.1.
Self-registration portal for guests (SSID: guests)
802.1x user certificate check (Cisco NAM supplicant) for employees (SSID: Corporate) (EAP-TLS)
Self provisioning portal (to deploy BYOD certificate and give access for BYOD devices) for BYOD devices (SSID: Corporate) (PEAP, MSHAPv2)
Can I configure these things with PLUS license or do I need Adv or Wireless? I am not sure if one of these requires profiling functionally.

With plus license all the above items should work.
Here is what plus license supports:
    Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
    Profiling
    Endpoint Protection Service (EPS)
    TrustSec SGT
For more info, refer ISE license section:

  • Cisco ISE for 802.1x (EAP-TLS)

I work for a banking organization and security is an area that needs to be improved continuously. I am planning on implementing Cisco ISE for 802.1x together with a Microsoft PKI for certificate issuing and signing.
I am currently trying to implement this in our test environment and I have managed to do a few basic bootstrapping tasks. I need someone to push me into the right direction as to how I can achieve what i am seeking.
I will use Cisco 2900 series switches on the access layer and a few HP switches as well which supports 802.1x.
I want to configure the ISE to process authentication requests using 802.1x EAP-TLS (Certificate Based). All the workstations on the domain needs to authenticate itself using the certificates issued to it by the Certificate Issuing Authority.
I have already managed to get the PKI working and have rolled out the certificates on all the workstations on the test environment. I can't seem to configure the Authentication portion on the ISE.
I request if someone can guide me or direct me to materials that can help achieve the above requirements. The guides available on the Cisco website are  overwhelming and I can't seem to figure out how I am supposed to configure the authentication portion.

    Hello Mubashir,
Many timers can be modified as  needed in a deployment. Unless you are experiencing a specific problem  where adjusting the timer may correct unwanted behavior, it is  recommended to leave all timers at their default values except for the  802.1X transmit timer (tx-period).
The tx-period timer defaults to a value of 30 seconds.  Leaving this value at 30 seconds provides a default wait of 90 seconds  (3 x tx-period) before a switchport will begin the next method of  authentication, and begin the MAB process for non-authenticating  devices.
Based on numerous deployments, the best-practice  recommendation is to set the tx-period value to 10 seconds to provide  the optimal time for MAB devices. Setting the value below 10 seconds may  result in the port moving to MAC authentication bypass too quickly.
    Configure the tx-period timer.
    C3750X(config-if-range)#dot1x timeout tx-period 10

  • Cisco ISE and authentication for 802.1x printer

    Hello
What is the best practice to authenticate a 802.1x printer in Cisco ISE?
The printer can store a certificate for authentication and support EAP-TLS.
    Thanks for answer.
    Marco

EAP-TLS is the way to go. It is way way way more secure than MAB and profiling. However, the question is "How much of a hassle is it going to be to put a certificate on each printer?" Moreover, "What methods do I have (if any) to renew those certificates when they expire?" If have to manually generate a CSR and install a cert on each printer then it can quickly become an administrative overhead nightmare. With that being said, you can use MAB and profiling but just make sure that you lock down the access that those printers get. For instance, do they need access to the internet? Do they need access to anything else but the print server and/or open to all IPs access but only on the printing ports.
I hope this puts you in the right direction!
