Cisco ISE authentication failed for Win XP SP3

Hello,
I have some trouble this Win XP wired Client authentication. With Win7 everything works well.
ISE 1.2 (patch 4)
Switch: 2960 / 2960S (15.0.(2)SE2)
Authentication details:
Event:
5400 Authentication failed:
Failure Reason
11514 Unexpectedly received empty TLS message; treating as a rejection by the client
Resolution
Ensure that the client's supplicant does not have any known compatibility issues and that it is properly configured. Also ensure that the ISE server certificate is trusted by the client, by configuring the supplicant with the CA certificate that signed the ISE server certificate. It is strongly recommended to not disable the server certificate validation on the client!
Root cause While trying to negotiate a TLS handshake with the client, ISE expected to receive a non-empty TLS message or TLS alert message, but instead received an empty TLS message. This could be due to an inconformity in the implementation of the protocol between ISE and the supplicant. For example, it is a known issue that the XP supplicant sends an empty TLS message instead of a non-empty TLS alert message. It might also involve the supplicant not trusting the ISE server certificate for some reason. ISE treated the unexpected message as a sign that the client rejected the tunnel establishment.
I try to disable validate server certificates on Win XP Clients, but it won´t work for me.
Add ISE self-sign certificate to clients trusted root certification authorities and enable validate server certificates also won´t work.
Any idea?
thanks

The ISE use a self-signed certificate. I add this self-signed certificate to the clients "trusted root certification authorities", enable validate server certificates at the eap properties and select the added certificate from the trust list. But if I uncheck validate server certificates, I see the same error message as well.
Are there any differences between xp client config and win7 client config?
thanks,

  • Cisco ISE authentication failed because client reject certificate

    Hi Experts,
I am a newbie in ISE and having problem in my first step in authentication. Please help.
I am trying to deploy a standalone Cisco ISE 1.1.2 with WLC using 802.1x authentication. The user authentication configured to be checked to ISE's internal user database for early deployment. But when the user try to authenticate, they failed with error message in ISE :
Authentication failed : 12321 PEAP failed SSL/TLS handshake because the client rejected the ISE local-certificate
I've generate a certificate for ISE using Windows Server CA and replace ISE's self-signed certificate with the new certificate but authentication still failed with the same error message. Must I generate a certificate for WLC also? Please help me in solving this problem.

Certificate-Based User Authentication via Supplicant Failing
    Symptoms or
    Issue
User authentication is failing on the client machine, and the user is receiving a
    “RADIUS Access-Reject” form of message.
Conditions (This issue occurs with authentication protocols that require certificate validation.)
    Possible Authentications report failure reasons:
    • “Authentication failed: 11514 Unexpectedly received empty TLS message;
treating as a rejection by the client”
    • “Authentication failed: 12153 EAP-FAST failed SSL/TLS handshake because
the client rejected the Cisco ISE local-certificate”
Click the magnifying glass icon from Authentications to display the following output
    in the Authentication Report:
    • 12305 Prepared EAP-Request with another PEAP challenge
    • 11006 Returned RADIUS Access-Challenge
    • 11001 Received RADIUS Access-Request
    • 11018 RADIUS is reusing an existing session
    • 12304 Extracted EAP-Response containing PEAP challenge-response
    • 11514 Unexpectedly received empty TLS message; treating as a rejection by the
    client
    • 12512 Treat the unexpected TLS acknowledge message as a rejection from the
    client
    • 11504 Prepared EAP-Failure
    • 11003 Returned RADIUS Access-Reject
    • 11006 Returned RADIUS Access-Challenge
    • 11001 Received RADIUS Access-Request
    • 11018 RADIUS is re-using an existing session
    • 12104 Extracted EAP-Response containing EAP-FAST challenge-response
    • 12815 Extracted TLS Alert message
    • 12153 EAP-FAST failed SSL/TLS handshake because the client rejected the
    Cisco ISE local-certificate
    • 11504 Prepared EAP-Failure
    • 11003 Returned RADIUS Access-Reject
Note This is an indication that the client does not have or does not trust the Cisco
    ISE certificates.
Possible Causes The supplicant or client machine is not accepting the certificate from Cisco ISE.
The client machine is configured to validate the server certificate, but is not
configured to trust the Cisco ISE certificate.
Resolution The client machine must accept the Cisco ISE certificate to enable authentication.

The error message means that Active Directory server Reject the authentication attempt
as for some reasons the user account got locked.I guess, You should ask your AD Team to check in the AD

  • Authentication failed for realm level_15

    hi,
I'm trying to configure HTTP server to authenticate users with AAA platform. I get the following error while trying to connect with Cisco Configuration Pro:

    aaa accounting exec default
    action-type start-stop

    Hi,
    Yes, local authentication does work.
I added below the HTTP configuration:
    ip http server
ip http authentication aaa login-authentication default
    no ip http secure-server
I thought that HTTP would use the default method list for authentication. Is that possible or should I define a seperate AAA method list?

  • Tacacs authentication fails for one user account for only one switch

    Hi,
I am having an scenario, where as Tacacs authentication fails for one user account for only one switch.
The same user account works well for other devices.
The AAA configs are same on every devices in the network.
    Heres the show tacacs output from the switch where only one user account fails;
                  Socket opens:        157
                 Socket closes:        156
                 Socket aborts:        303
                 Socket errors:          1
               Socket Timeouts:          2

            Total Packets Sent:       1703
            Total Packets Recv:       1243
              Expected Replies:          0
What could be the reason ?
No errors on ACS server; same rights had been given to the user account.
    Thanks to advise.
    Prasey

    Hi there,
Does the user get authenticated in the ACS logs?
    reports and activity----> failed attempts
    ro
    reports and activity----->  passed authentications
That will help narrow it down.

  • NoMachine(freenx) Authentication failed for user (MYUSERNAME)

    Hi all,
I have quite a few experience with freenx on other linux distributions, but this is my first time setting up freenx on archlinux. After following the instructions in the wiki, authentication keeps failing no matter what I do.
Stuff I've done from the wiki:
    1. install freenx
    2. add RSAAuthentication yes AllowUsers someuser nx to sshd_config
    3. add md5sum to node.conf
    4. pacman -S xdialog xterm
    5. run "/usr/bin/nxsetup --install --setup-nomachine-key"
    6. modify /etc/nxserver/node.conf so that "USER_X_STARTUP_SCRIPT=.xinitrc"
    7. pick the right configurations when connecting to my server
I have "exec startxfce4" in .xinitrc.
It always goes up to "Waiting for authentication" and then "Authentication failed for user (MYUSERNAME)" pops up. I think it should not be a XFCE issue since authentication itself didn't even pass. I assume if it is a X window problem, what I would get is something like a blank screen.
I'm using public key, so I didn't really copy anything from the server to my client.
I couldn't think of a second reason why this wouldn't work. Is there any thing obvious that I missed? (If so, please move this thread to the newbie corner. lol)
Any thoughts would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Aweather

    Hi,
I did update the password in the properties file but still I get the error
    BUILD FAILED
    C:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1\bpel\samples\utils\CreditRatingService\build.xml:
79: Authentication failed for user "oc4jadmin" on host
I am able to deploy from JDEV. and could configure as per documentation
    Thanks in advance,
    Anand
I had to update the <OH>/bpel/utilities/ant-orabpel.properties file for the password and now I can deploy successfully...information was there in the readme file...

  • Essbase Error 1051440 - Authentication fails for user admin

We are facing a very unique problem...
The application is up & running.. even I can login into the application, can perform member addition, editing & mamage database from planning.... but I get this error while retreiving from excel addin or running scripts.
What I analysed is that this problem is Actually coming when a particular set of members are called anywhere either in scripts or during retreival thru Addin.
Recently we had added one dimension in one of the database of our application. After that that this problem started.
There were fewer Xref functions used to pull data from other cubes.... The problem is cominng with only those set of members where this Xref function has been used.
Even I had changed the formulas & incorporated member of new dimension in the formulas to point to target members....
Can you guys ever had faced such kind of issue....
    Please help in resolving....
Complete Error is: msg fromremote site[date n time] Local////Error(1051440) Essbase user[admin] Authentication fails against shared services serverwith Error[30:1005:Authentication failed for user admin. Enter valid credentials.]]

    Hi,
are you sure that user "admin" has all necessary rights to run your scripts? I have to ask because we sometimes had problems with our admin user... There is an "native essbase server admin" and the admin user in shared services.
We dont had any idea how this could happen but sometimes our admin user changed to the mentioned "native essbase server admin" - you can see it if you are connected as "admin (internal)".
If you are logged in as "admin (internal)" you have to "externalize" this user.
Hope this helps and my bad english is not so much confusing... :-)
    Kind regards
    André

  • ISE 1.2 Authentication fails for 2nd AD domain with the forest trust relation

We are running cisco ISE 1.2, we have new AD domain with forest trust relation between both the new and the old. authentication to with the new domain fails.
Is there any requirements or configurations change needs to be done to make it success?

Use the license that is currently on your ISE.  If your account has access to download the software, then you are good.  The license will not change during the upgrade.  If you are using ISE 1.2 Patch 8 or above, then you are using the same Base/Plus?Apex Licensing model.
If you are not yet on Patch 8, the you are using Base/Advanced and these will be converted during the upgrade.

  • Cisco ISE Machine failed machine authentication

Hi, last week we migrated to ISE 1.2 Patch 7 and since then we are having trouble with our corporate SSID.
We have a rule that says :
    1) User is domain user.
    2) Machine is authenticated.
But for some reason that I can't figure out some machine(I would say around 200/1000) can't seem to authenticate.
This is the message I found in the "steps"
24423     ISE has not been able to confirm previous successful machine authentication for user in Active Directory
I was wondering if I could force something on the controller or on ISE directly.
EDIT : In the operation > Authentication I can see that some host/MachineName are getting authenticated.
Would I be able to force this as a step in my other rule.

Hi shertica, and thank you for the explanation. I started working with ISE a month ago and still getting familiarized but I think the problem is the relationship between the Machine and the user because I can't find any Host/MachineName fail in the last 24 hour and I can't seem to have any log further than that.

  • Cisco ISE: Dot1x failing and MAB succeeded (Intermittent) /or Posture Delay

    Hi,
We are running the cisco ise 1.1.3 and configured for the Dot1x and MAB authentications. PC's are getting access through MAB while Dot1x failing again and again. But, sometime, same PC is getting authenticating  via Dot1x. Connectivity is intermittent. Also, sometimes, stucks longer in Posture
We have three different switches at the moment with the latest IOS version.
    1) WS-C4507R-E    =  15.1(2)SG,
    2) WS-C3560-48PS = 12.2(55)SE7
    3) WS-C3750X-24P = 15.0(2)SE1
Could you anyone pitch the idea? or advise about the latest IOS for the switches.
Let me know, if you need more information.
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    Mubahser

It seems your PCs are failing dot1x and also failing MAB authentication, the switch by default will start the process again and will again fail dot1x and MAB authentication, and so on.
It will be helpful to see the logs from both the switch and the radius servers (i take it is ACS or ISE). Also the configuration of the radius server.

  • ISE authentication fail during windows re-logon

    Background:
Deployed a Cisco ISE 1.1.2. that is used to authenticate and posture validate for wired users, attached to Cisco IP Phones. Backend database is Microsoft AD.
    Problem:
At the first time both, users and IP Phones, pass authentication and posture validation steps successfully. When the user logs off from windows, the log off is done whithout any problem, and I can see it switch.
The problem takes place when the user try to log on again. The ise does not match the configured authenticion rules as in the first time, and put the user directly to default "DenyAccess" policy (rule).
Anyone out there experienced something similar or have any ideas on why this is happening?
    Thanks.

    Hi
    Possible Causes
    • This could be either a MAB or 802.1X authentication issue.
    • The authorization profile could be missing the Cisco av-pair=”device-traffic-class=voice” attribute. As a result, the switch does not recognize the traffic on the voice VLAN.
    • The administrator did not add the endpoint as static identity, or did not allow an unregistered endpoint to pass. create a policy rule to (“Continue/Continue/Continue” upon failure).
    Resolution
    • Verify that the Authorization Policy is framed properly for groups and conditions, and check to see whether the IP phone is profiled as an “IP phone”or as a “Cisco-device.”
    • Verify the switch port configuration for multidomain and voice VLAN configuration.
    • Add the continue/continue/continue to allow the endpoint to pass:
Choose Policy > Policy Elements > Results > Authentication > Allowed
Protocols to create a Protocol Policy. MAC authentications use PAP/ASCII and EAP-MD5 protocols. Enable the following MAB Protocols settings:
    – Process Host Lookup
    – PAP/ASCII
    – Detect PAP as Host Lookup
    – EAP-MD5
    – Detect EAP-MD5 as Host Lookup
    • From the main menu, choose Policy > Authentication.
    • Change the authentication method from Simple to Rule-Based
    • Use the action icon to create new Authentication Method entries for MAB:
    – Name: MAB
    – Condition: IF MAB RADIUS:Service-Type == Call Check
    – Protocols: allow protocols MAB_Protocols and use
    – Identity Source: Internal
    – Hosts: Continue/Continue/Continue

  • Cisco ISE authenticating Ip Phone 7942

    Hello,
I am installing Cisco ISE soon and have a question. Why can't I authenticate Cisco IP phone model 7942 using 802.1x? I see that the phone has this option (it is not enabled). I am told that Cisco IP Phones must be authenticated on ISE by using profiling or MAB. This uses a costly advanced license to accomplish this.
Has anybody had any luck in this area?
    Thank you,
    Bob

I have successfully deployed 802.1x for wireless IP phones using MIC. The only real problem I have with this approach is the inability of ISE to authenticate the username from certificate against anything but an external database. As a result I have been forced to use a static endpoint group for the MAC addresses of the allowed phones to meet the organisation's security stance. Just wish EAP-TLS could go against an internal database.

  • Did Cisco ISE have limitation for policy setting?

    Deat All,
Did anyone know about Cisco ISE limitation about policy setting?
Right now my setting for windows posture policy around 200 windows patch checking, did ISE have limitation such as maximum windows patching policy line?
    Thanks you
    Best Regards

Here is the nswer for your first question.
Cisco ISE profiler collects a significant amount of endpoint data from the network in a short period of time. It causes Java Virtual Machine (JVM) memory utilization to go up due to accumulated backlog when some of the slower Cisco ISE components process the data generated by the profiler, which results in performance degradation and stability issues.
To ensure that the profiler does not increase the JVM memory utilization and prevent JVM to go out of memory and restart, limits are applied to the following internal components of the profiler:
Endpoint Cache—Internal cache is limited in size that has to be purged periodically (based on least recently used strategy) when the size exceeds the limit.
Forwarder—The main ingress queue of endpoint information collected by the profiler.
Event Handler—An internal queue that disconnects a fast component, which feeds data to a slower processing component (typically related to a database query).
