Hi, my customer operates himself a VM for Cisco ISE, so he needs no smartnet service thats ok. Now he needs L-ISE-BSE-100= (Base Licence) 100 teers. Question: Can he gets during 5 year maintenance time updates and tecnical support for free??

Increment Cisco ISE Base Licence

Hi guys,
I have an implementation where our client purchase two L-ISE-BSE-1K= and two L-ISE-ADV3Y-1K=. The ISE implementation is on version 1.2. I remember that on previous version if we tryed to increment the licence count with separete licences, we obtain a error uploading the licences base and advenced.
Now in version 1.2, I can see that the advanced licences are incremental, taking in mint that the endpoint count of advanced licence is not greather than the base licenced. My doubt is, If I install firts one base licence of 1K, Could I install after the other one licence of 1K and then have 2K endpoints wiht base licence? The base licence is incremental too?

Do I need the L-ISE-VM-K9 license to install Cisco ISE on an ESXi ?
Actually, Cisco ISE can be downloaded with an Eval License for 90 days.
I know, ISE license (e.g. Base License) is needed.

ISE base vs advanced license

Dear,
Initial I was looking to use VMPS (dynamic VLAN assignment to ports based on MAC).But after some reading I understand 802.1X with Radius is a better solution, and finally I came to ISE. My question: Is the BASE license for ISE sufficient to use the dynamic VLAN assignment (I.e. After authentication and authorization, a port will be set to a VLAN) or do I need to install the ADVANCED license ?

The Base License is consumed whenever an authentication notification is received by Cisco ISE. A single Advanced License is consumed when any one or more of the following services or conditions are applied to the endpoint session:
•Posture
•Security Group Tag assignment
•Authorization using profile information
•Endpoint is registered in the MyDevices Portal

Bascially , we have integrated Cisco Switches with Cisco ISE for Device Authentication using Radius , we are able get the authentication logs on to the devices , but for any command changes or update done on Cisco devices we are not able to get the command accounting ..

Cisco ISE doesn't have TACACS feature ...

Command Accounting is a TACACS+ feature so not for ISE....yet.
However, you can do the following to send commands to syslog and not including passwords (hidekeys). I just picked 200 commands/lines to store in the local command buffer/log. increase or decrease as you have memory. The notify syslog is what sends it via syslog.

logging size 200
hidekeys
notify syslog
end
wr mem
Remember, syslog is clear text :-) log away from user traffic when possible. Or use TLS based syslog when possible.

As far as concurrent voice calls we don't have any documentation as to how many it can support. It is strictly based on the bandwidth for the network as to how many calls it can handle.

Hi Ram, yes the MIB can be used. The switches are essentially the same in many regards (especially on a software level).
I do not know the OID for bandwidth. If you're looking for a particular OID may be this tool helps you

I believe that is correct. There should be no reason to buy both licenses for one machine. You should verify this with your reseller or MS.

ISE base license and import of enddevices

Hi,
Been going through the intire internet (or so it seems) and most guides and tips are about features that is included in the advanced license, profiling and so on.
I am facing a case where base license should be enough. But I am confused about the import of endpoints.
When using the base license is the only way to import devices manualy or through file or LDAP? Can't ISE scan the network an pick up MAC addresses automaticly?
We dont have LDAP and about 20 000 endpoints, so adding them manualy or to a csv-file is too much work.

When the user has registered a device through the My Devices Portal webpage the device will end up in RegisteredDevices Identity Group.
Is there anyway to change this? Is there a way for the user to choose what group the device should be in? Or is the only way to change ID group that an administrator of ISE do it manually?
The problem that we are facing are that some devices should go to VLAN X and other on VLAN Y. But since they all are assigned to the RegisteredDevices group there is no way to differentiate them in a authorization profile.

Edit: Just found out that this might be solved in 1.2. It will implement the use of Endpoint Profile as an attribute in authorization profiles.

Please put default settings for alerts "ISE - Process Status" for CiscoISE (PAN / Operations / Alarms / Rules / Criteria / Monitor Processes).

You can view process status for the network from the Cisco ISE dashboard using the System Summary dashlet. For example, when processes like the application server or database fail, an alarm is generated and you can view the results using the System Summary dashlet.
One of the requirements for creating an alarm rule is that you assign it to a schedule. The following task shows you how to create an alarm rule, and then assign it to a schedule.
The following default alarm rules are shown in the user interface:
• ISE - AAA Health
• ISE - Process Status
• ISE - System Errors
• ISE - System Health
You can create these alarm rules using the following procedure:
• Passed Authentication
• Failed Authentication
• Authentication Inactivity
• Authenticated But No Accounting Start
• Unknown NAD
• External DB Unavailable
• RBACL Drops

Wplus Base Licence WLC 5500

Hi, I have a WLC 5500 with Software Version, 6.0.196.0, License Level Base, according to the "Release Notes for Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers and Lightweight Access Points for Release 6.0.196.0", says that the base license includes all features present in the wplus license. In the monitor page from the WLC the Licence Level say "base", and when I go to Managment License Level, and I set the License Level to "wplus" a messages say: Setting wplus as next level failed. Only with the version of Operating system is enough to have the functions of Wplus Licence, although the level of license showing base license, in the monitor page of the WLC.

All features included in a Wireless LAN Controller WPlus license are now included in the base license; this change is introduced in release 6.0.196.0. There are no changes to WCS BASE and PLUS licensing.
These WPlus license features are included in the base license:
•Office Extend AP
•Enterprise Mesh
•CAPWAP Data Encryption
The licensing change can affect features on your wireless LAN when you upgrade or downgrade software releases, so you should be aware of these guidelines:
•If you have a WPlus license and you upgrade from 6.0.18x to 6.0.196.0: Your license file contains both Basic and WPlus license features. You won't see any disruption in feature availability and operation.
•If you have a WPlus license and you downgrade from 6.0.196.0 to 6.0.188 or 6.0.182: The license file in 6.0.196.0 contains both Basic and WPlus license features, so you won't see any disruption in feature availability and operation.

Upgrading to ISE 1.3 error ISE Global data upgrade failed!

Has anyone come across this issue? when upgrading, it seems to start all well but then this happens:
- Data upgrade step 40/67, CertMgmtUpgradeService(1.3.0.616)... % Error: ISE Global data upgrade failed!
Rolling back the configuration database...
Starting application after rollback...
% Error: The node has been reverted back to its pre-upgrade state.
% Application install or upgrade cancelled.
I've also upgraded it to the latest patch and tried again but to no avail. This is an appliance (3415) that came shipped with 1.2. It's not been configured other than the initial cli wizard. I've upgraded a fair few appliances but I haven't seen this issue come up before. Any thoughts?

Cisco 3850 and Licences for WLC??

We have a client who needs a new switch which is capable of intervlan routing and also a WLC.
I am thinking a 48 port 3850 with IP Base which gives intervlan routing and WLC support.
However I am not sure if we need to purchase additional AP licences or whether they are built in?

In 3850 WLC functionality, your switch stack could act as MA (Mobiity Agengt) or MC (Mobility Controller). AP license required for your 3850, only if it is acting as MC. (for MA you do not require any AP licenses). Max 50 AP can handle by given 3850 switch stack. For MC functionality minimum you required IPbase image. (not LANbase)
So it is based on your design you need to purchase 3850 AP license. In your case if it is for a single switch where client want WLC functionality (with no other controller available) then you have to go with AP license depend on how many AP they want to deploy.
