SSID=Broadcast Malformed Packet cause switch CPU increase 90 %
I have a Wirelles LAN composed of 4 WISM controllers mounted on 2 6513 catalyst . On the ACCESS switch I can see a lot of abnormal traffic that are in use in the port . After sniffing this traffic I have clear that was WIRELESS broacast traffic in particular : SSID=Broadcast Malformed Packet.
How to reduce this traffic ? I have to proceed in the WISM or just cut all the broacast strom over the switch ?
thank for any helpFor that do disable the broadcast SSID. It may help you .

Can Ciscoview cause high cpu spikes?
I was using LMS 3.2, Ciscoview to open a view on a 6500 that has 2 WS-SUP720-3B supervisors and is running s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-33.SXH4.bin.
The device was taking a bit to open up, so I clicked it a couple more times and a couple of minutes later it finally opened.
At the same time I had a telnet session to the device and noted thru sh proc cpu sorted that the SNMP ENGINE had spiked to 95% utilization.
Could Ciscoview be the cause of this? I have found through testing that multiple clicks can cause a small cpu jump (6% - 12%) but I haven't yet reproduced the 95% utilization I saw that day.
Is there an initial discovery that Ciscoview first does to gather it's information that's more intensive than subsquent polling?
-DaveA couple more questions. Does Ciscoview perform snmpwalks or snmpgets on the device when it is the first time it's contacting it? In the trace logs, I noted:

I've noted in attempts to open a device the first time, it takes awhile to open which I'm assuming is the snmpwalk/gets being performed on the device to update its cache. When is this cache cleared? On server reboot? -
Cloud App Discovery - Agent causing CPU spike
I'm excited to deploy the Cloud App Discovery agent more broadly in our organization. However, when pushing the agent to about 40 test workstations, we discovered that it caused a serious problem with 2 workstations. The agent seemed to cause
a CPU spike, to the point that the workstation was unusable. Once the workstation was restarted the problem happened again. We ultimately, uninstalled the agent.
Are others having problems with the agent causing performance issues on workstations?Hi,
I have deployed the agent on approx. 20 HP laptops. So far everything has been fine.
Check the event logs to see if there is any useful pointers.
Check installed programs to see if there is something unique about these 2 desktops versus the others. Remove any that are not needed or not in Company Policy.
Check AV is up to date and not conflicting with agent.
Run a belarc report (http://www.belarc.com/) on one working desktop then on one faulty one. Compare to check for any differences
Cheers

I have been fighting a battle of rapid and disabling CPU strikes for months. Syslogd is sometimes the culprit, as shown in Activity monitor. If the CPU does not freeze me out, I quit syslogd, but it comes back a week or so later. I wish I could completely disable syslogd and empty its log file, but I do not know if that is the only cause of the spikes. The computer can be sitting with nothing running and it will go into a CPU spike that requires holding down the power to shut down. I cannot seem to blame one application or another for causing these CPU spikes. This is so bad and so frequent that just reading my email (in Entourage) has become a chore. I can have just Safari open and surfing the web and a spike will happen. I have tried a program called iStat menus to find the crippling process (es) but often the CPU spike is so high that I can't get to iStat to read it! Below is the Activity report right now. I have created a simple trouble shooting account, but its activity report is very short. Is there some sort of log file that can tell what caused any given CPU spike? ANY helped would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Do an experiment or two.
A fresh format and install. Don't import your old files.
Create a new test user account.
Delete the cache folders (System and Library); rename your preference folder.
Disconnect and test every peripheral cable and device. Maybe something innocuous is not communicating and at the heart of this.

Does debug ip OSPF adjacency will cause high CPU
Hello All,
We are finding a OSPF flapping issue on Cisco 3750x switches. To isolate the issue TAC has suggested "debug ip ospf adj"
Does this command will cause high CPU utilization?
There are 12 OSPF neighbours connected to that switch and we have the hello interval of 1 second.
Any of your help would be appreciable.
Regards,
ThiyaguIt may do... But unlikely. There is always a risk with debug commands that have large output. Especially that you have hello intervals set to 1 second. I would advise to do out of hours if necessary to mitigate risks of impacting production.
What version of ios are you on and show the output of 'show proc cpu sorted'
I have had a similar experience and multicast was the problem. It was high CPU and dropping ospf adjacencies. We downgraded to 12.2 55 SE 8
It helped the problem for CPU utilisation but didn't fix it. Since then we are using 6509Es in VSS -
Hi All,
I am currently getting buried in a flurry of alerts from Cisco LMS. However when I check on the device in fault manager or with Device Diagnostic Tools, I do not see any issues. Anyone have any ideas as to why these alerts are being generated? ( I have removed our specific info with xxxx)
Additionally, I don't want to seem like I am bashing the LMS product, but could these alerts be made any more cryptic?

Thanks,
RickThe alerts are quite generic. The individual EVENT details will contain many more details. Initially, it looks like DFM is showing you trap information relating to config and STP changes. If you have determined that these are not important, then you can clear the events (or mark them as acknowledged). If you're receiving these as notifications (e.g. email notifications), you might consider creating event sets to filter the events to just the ones in which you are interested, then unchecking the boxes for alerts in your Notification Group.

Cisco PI 2.1 can't generate CPU utilization report
Hi Expert,
I just want to generate a CPU utilization report for my test router, I follow cisco offical documents step by step.
But unlucky, there's no result be display when I finished run the report.
Can anyone come cross this issue? Please help me to solve this issue.
The config detail please refer to attachment (Pic1, 2, 3)
Thanks in advance,

I chose the Express-Plus profile even though I could technically have used the Express profile for what they're managing. I always try to err on the side of more resources when building a management system. Getting a customer to adapt their workflow to properly leverage a NMS is hard enough without it also being a drag to use due to system sluggishness.
We're also running it on a nice new shiny data center - UCS B240 series blade with fast storage on Netapp SAS disks and connected directly to the 7010 core (via the Fabric Interconnect of course). -
Good day team,
is there any major difference between them more than the one belows
Cisco LMS
only cisco devices
easy to manage
can use cisco discovery
HP OPEN view
MultiVendor
hard to manage
can not use deivce discoveryHi,
I dont have a much experience with HPOV, but i can share more benefits from what you have already mentioned about
CWLMS, due to which I think it surpasses HPOV in many sense.
CiscoWorks LMS is a very powerful management tools that simplify the configuration, administration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of Cisco networks.
Following are some of the more detailed features which separate LMS from any other NMS software :
> A strong next-generation device discovery is done using cisco Propreitary CDP and other new technologies, modules and protocols like HSRP, ARP, BGP, OSPF, Cluster Discovery Module, LLDP, and routing Table as well.
> Real-time network fault analysis with easy-to-deploy, device-specific, best-practice templates.
> Hardware and software inventory management, centralized configuration tools, and syslog monitoring.
> Monitoring and tracking of network response time and availability via IP SLA
> Real-time device and link management, as well as port traffic management, analysis, and reporting.
> Support for network virtualization through configuration, reporting, monitoring and troubleshooting for VRFLite networks.
> More quickly and reliably utilize Cisco best practices using Cisco Smart Business Architecture (SBA) templates.
> LMS has Smart Services Interaction for contextual Technical Assistance Center (TAC) case creation and Cisco Support Community and it's interaction can Smartly tap into the Cisco Support Community knowledge base, streamline interactions with TAC.
> Cisco Prime LMS manages the deployment of the latest Cisco technologies and services such as medianet, Cisco TrustSec, and EnergyWise.
> A very crucial support for End-host manangement, including a separate IP Phone information.
> An integrated Inventory, software and configuration archive mechanism.
> Get immediate up-to-date information about the network through flexible reporting for inventory, user tracking, compliance, switch port usage, end-of-sale, PSIRT, and other critical areas.
> Easily manage all phases of the end-to-end lifecycle of Cisco value-added technologies and solutions, such as medianet, EnergyWise, TrustSec and Identity, Auto Smartports, and Smart Install.
A better comparison, if you are planning to get one, is ofcourse by using both of them. A evaluation Copy of Ciscoworks can anytime be downloaded from :

Hope it helps!

Hi, i'm looking for a way to collect config's from specific devices periodically, is this possible?
for example, collect configs from firewalls everyday at midnight , and collect routers config once a week.
firewalls: (about 3 devices, config changes every day)
routers: (about 800 devices, rarely change the config)
the only config collection schedule i have found so far is too simple:
admin > collection settings > config > config collecion settings > periodic collection
second question, is it possible for cisco lms to send via e-mail the diff of the config pulled from devices? i mean the specific commands that have appeared in the new configuration file.
regards, ignacioUnfortunately, LMS syslog mechanism is very minimalistic and doesn't have a lot of options to it.
However, the feature you're requesting is not very much LMS dependent. As, Ciscoworks depends on the kind of syslog message it receives from device, based on it, it captures some characters to send a notification as automated actions.
So usually it is the device which won't send a lot of information on what changes was done by which user in normal IOS syslog messages.
But, to certain extent, you can try to configure you device for Configuration-Change logger to receive details on what changes were made by users and check it on the syslog report, or configure AA on it for all or important devices.
You can enable a configuration logger to keep track of configuration changes made with the command-line interface (CLI). When you enter the logging enable configuration-change logger configuration command, the log records the session, the user, and the command that was entered to change the configuration. You can configure the size of the configuration log from 1 to 1000 entries (the default is 100). You can clear the log at any time by entering the no logging enable command followed by the logging enable command to disable and reenable logging.
Use the:
show archive log config {all | number [end-number] | user username [session number] number [end-number] | statistics} [provisioning] privileged EXEC command to display the complete configuration log or the log for specified parameters.
This example shows how to enable the configuration-change logger and to set the number of entries in the log to 500:
Switch(config)# archive
Switch(config-archive)# log config
Switch(config-archive-log-cfg)# logging enable
Switch(config-archive-log-cfg)# logging size 500
Switch(config-archive-log-cfg)# end
So, in all, it depends on the device and the kind of syslogs it send for LMS to react on it.

DW FTP is slow and causes CPU Spike
Does anyone know why DW causes the CPU to jump up when it is
performing FTP operations? I'm new to DW and maybe this is normal,
but it shouldn't be. When I perfrom FTP activities, DW usually
takes up about 60-70% of the CPU???
Also, why is the FTP client so slow?
Dreamweaver takes so much longer than other FTP clients. I
compared it's usage to SmartFTP, FileZilla, and Windows built in
FTP, and Dreamweaver is so slow on a magnitude of 20x - 30x. For a
quick test I tried to pull down a directory using dreamweaver. I
have all the files local already, so I told DW not to overwrite the
files...so you would think it should speed through all the files
and realize that they are all dups and not download anything, for a
directory with 15 files in it, i would think this FTP operation
should take about 2 seconds. but it takes dreamweaver about 4
minutes to complete this, all my other FTP clients can figure this
out in under 5 seconds, and they don't need to spike the CPU to do
it.
A quick search on the web tells me that I am not the only
person with these problems.
I really hope Adobe plans on fixing the FTP problems.
Technical details:
Dreamweaver CS3.
Windows Vista SP1, 4GB ram, Fujitsu T4220I've had a related, ongoing problem with CS3 running up the
CPU and acting
slow for just about every operation for no apparent reason.
It goes in
surges, and just acts like molasses half the time, very
annoying. It is to
the point that I really don't use CS3, I use DW8, but try to
use CS3 here
and again to see if it has started working or if there is
some patch
released. This is on my XP workstation at work, and my Vista
workstation at
home. Both systems run CS3 slow enough that I just don't use
CS3. This has
been going on for over a year, since I got my copy of CS3.
Too bad really, because I am tasked with approving CS3 for
use by the rest
of our WEB team and I haven't been able to do that, so we
continue to use
DW8. We are missing out on Spry integration and are slowly
switching over
to Eclipse and Aptana instead. I think that if the CPU bug
isn't fixed, CS3
will be the version that has us switch away entirely. The
only hope seems to
be if they release the next version of DW before we can
completely switch
away. We are a smallish state agency and only have 8 DW
licenses, but
that's seven licenses they missed out on the upgrade path
with unless this
is fixed (mine is the only upgraded so far). It just isn't
useable in its
present state. :-\

Cisco LMS 3.2 SYSLOG not storing after 10 days
Hi ,
Im facing one issue with Cisco LMS 3.2
Issue : The logs is generating only for 10 days and post that im not able to see the logs. I have not done any config changes. The only change i have done is i have completely reinstalled the LMS. i did multiple troubleshoot but not able to resolve this isse. It would be great If any some one is able to help me in this isse. Thanks.
Regards,
JulietDear Vinod
Thanks for ur response and the problem has been resolved.
The purge policy was set to 60 days only .The problem in reports viewing setting.
Syslog folder under LMS would store syslog reports of both the device as well as applications for defined folder size , which in your case was 1 MB ( same can be viewed under log generator option). The older reports would get deleted from the folder upon reaching the limit.
The only way to view device syslog is under following option : Reports -> Reports Generator in LMS GUI where we will have to choose syslog with desired attribute.

Cisco LMS 4.0 Graph some time not coming
I have installed cisco lms 4.0.
I have added 10 devices, previously it was working fine, Since last few days some time syslog and graph are not coming. after every reboot on server it started working. It is happening on daily.plz help me out with permanent solution
and also i have added manualy one device 7609-s router but not able to see cisco view
Error:-
Cannot find applicable device package for 10.133.224.131.
This error could be due to one of the following:
- The device package for this device type is not installed.
- Device support for this device type is not available.
- You are trying to open a component inside a device.
To correct the problem, either install a device package for the device type, or open the parent device to manage the component.
In device attribute it is showing 868 integrated router, I had try to delete and add again but problem is still same...
Windows 2008 r2 standard

Try both :

Some web pages causing 100% CPU use of iexplore.exe since Flash update
I'm having a problem with certain Amazon.com pages hanging my
Internet Explorer 6 using Flash Player 10,0,12,36, causing 100% CPU
use for iexplore.exe and requiring me to End Task to quit. All the
pages effected have an interactive mouseover Size and Color chart
that intially says "Loading" but then says "Select Size and Color"
once loaded. One mouseovers the various color patches and size
options, each time giving item availability in that option. When
the pages hang the IE browser with 100% CPU use that chart never
gets to the "Select Size and Color" point, instead stuck at the
"Loading" status. This happens most times, but not every time.
Sometimes the pages load correctly, after a brief lag as it loads
the chart.
Amazon pages without this chart load fine.
The start of this problem coincides with updating Flash.
I can prevent the problem from happening almost every time if
I can quickly get my cursor into that chart area while the page
begins loading. If I allow the pages to load fully with no
interaction they will hang almost every time.
I have not noticed any problems on those same web pages using
Firefox using Flash Player 9,0,124,0
I also have not noticed any issues with other sites using
Internet Explorer either. (YouTube, QVC, CNN...etc, all OK.)
I had posted for assistance on the Experts Exchange site and
there was some debate on whether the chart was a Java or
Flash-based chart, so initially it was being approached as a
possible Java issue, so I removed all Java versions on the system
and installed various versions, but the same problem persists.
I've downloaded but not run the Flash Uninstaller, as I'm
reluctant to uninstall the Firefox Flash version without knowing
for sure I could install 9,0,124,0 again.
I've downloaded an archived fp9_archive.zip, which seems to
indicate the contained files flashplayer9r124_winax.exe (Internet
Explorer) and flashplayer9r124_win.exe (Netscape) would be versions
9,0,124,0 to install after running the uninstaller.
Can anyone check a few of the links below and see if the
"Select Size and Color" chart is Flash based? If so, would
executing the files listed above install 9,0,124,0 into my
respective browsers again?

History of Processes - how to view which process caused CPU spike?
We have been facing an issue with a domain controller (Windows Server 2008 R2, VM on ESX 5.0) over the past week. Around twice a day, the CPU spikes at 100% for about 10 minutes. We notice because we receive an alert from the hypervisor, but by the time we can actually log in to check what process is causing it, it would have come back to normal. There doesn't seem to be any pattern re times, its quite erratic. Sometimes at 08:00AM, sometimes at 01:00AM, 4:00AM, 7:00PM, etc. Also nothing in the Event Logs.
It's not a big deal but I just want to know if I can somehow record theprocess history, to see which process was stuck at 100% at a certain time. I know about Performance Monitor (perfmon) but it doesn't really meet my requirements since it doesn't record the actual processes (e.g. AV.exe, svchost.exe, chrome.exe, etc).Any...
This topic first appeared in the Spiceworks CommunityYou might check with your apps' developers to see if they support AppleScript, Automator, or other scripting languages that might be used for this. Some programs have built-in macro and scripting options that can be set up in a built-in editor or run in a built-in command-line environment of sorts, while others supply libraries for external scripting with AppleScript and others.
As for live tracing of a program's commands, most that you use will be coded in a low level language like C, C++, Java, or Objective-C, which are compiled and run in binary machine code as opposed to an interpreted language (one that does not need compiling to run), as is the case with most scripting languages (shell scripts, AppleScript, Matlab, etc.).
For the most part, the only options you have for "tracing" a program's functions are to monitor output that it might log to the console. You can see this by opening the console, but the output here is diagnostic in nature and is programmatically limited to what the programmers have intended be output (ie, things like warnings and errors, as opposed to every action the program is taking). You can also use the Terminal to directly launch a program's executable so it is hosted in the Terminal shell. This will give you direct access to all of the program's output, as opposed to that only intended for logging in the Console, but it is still not the same as a full output of the commands and routines the program is performing.
Some of Apple's developer tools can allow you to better monitor a program's functions, but these are intended for developers, and have some requirements, and will not allow you to use any results for productivity automation.
