  • Cisco MARS Book

    Hi All,
Is there any good reference book / material available online for Cisco MARS. I'm pretty new to it and looking forward for some basic and conceptual knowledge.
    Kind Regards,
    Wilson Samuel

Start with the User Guides like Matthew suggested and then do the following.
    1. Visit the following blog:
    http://ciscomars.blogspot.com/
    2. Visit the following Web site to view the MARS demos:
    http://www.demolabs.co.uk/
Finally buy this book from the Cisco Press by Dale Tesch, "Security Threat Mitigation and Response."
You should also keep an eye out for another MARS book that is due in June:
Security Monitoring with Cisco Security MARS (Networking Technology: Security) (Hardcover)
by Gary Halleen and Greg Kellogg
    Hope this helps.

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

  • I have photoshop CS2 on a mac 10.6.8 OS. I want to upgrade to Yosemite OS (10.10). Will photoshop work on the new OS? Is there an upgrade available if needed?        toshop keep working? Can I reload it  if needed?

Photoshop was the last version compiled for the PPC cpu, not Intel. 10.6.8 kept it going with the Rosetta emulator, gone since 10.7.
    So, no CS2 won't work under 10.10
CS6 (permanent license) or Lightroom and Photoshop | Adobe Creative Cloud Photography plan is the way to go.

  • Can't open iPhoto "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared. To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple." Doesn't work...

I've tried to open my iPhoto and a message box opens up and reads "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared. To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple." I update this and this message continues to pop up. I've even tried to rebuild it, but no matter what I do the same message appears and iPhoto still wpn't open. Can somebody please help me?!

i'm having the same problem with my iMac (Mac OS X 10.7.5) . i haven't really made any updates to it and yesterday when i tried to access the iPhoto library of my MBP (from my iMac) is when problems started. The iPhoto on the iMac initially said I need to install the recent version of the iPhoto. Since I can't find a 9.0 download, I went to buy the iPhoto on the App store.
When I tried to install iPhoto (version 9.4.3) to the iMac, I got this message:
The iPhoto Library Upgrader is a tool that prepares libraries from iPhoto 5 or earlier, so you can upgrade them with the current version of iPhoto. You can download the tool here.
Note: If your library is from iPhoto 6 or later, this tool is not required."
I then installed the iPhone Library Upgrader, but I got the same prompt:
'You can't open your current photo library using this version of the iPhoto. You have made changes to your library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto."
I guess this takes me back to square one? I am inclined to buy the iLife on eBay with the iPhoto 9.0 version, but needed to know if this is the case before I unfortunately bite the bullet.

  • Installed Sharepoint 2010 Server SP2 Update; PSConfig succeeds but CA still shows "Upgrade Available"

I have installed SharePoint 2010 Server SP2.  Central Administration shows the configuration database is at 14.0.7015.1000.  I had to run PSConfig several times before it completed successfully due to missing features, setup files, etc.  But
I got those cleaned up and finally got PSConfig to complete.
However, when I go to Farm Information it still shows "Upgrade Available" for the single WFE server we have.
When I run stsadm.exe -o localupgradestatus it shows me the following:
    [2] content database(s) encountered.
[0] content database(s) still need upgrade or cannot be upgraded.
[23] site collection(s) are contained in the content databases.
[0] site collection(s) still need upgrade.
[53] other objects encountered, [12] of them still need upgrade or cannot be upgraded.
The 12 objects that cannot be upgraded are ancillary databases like:
    StateService_[GUID]
    Secure_Store_Service_DB_[GUID]
    PerformancePoint Service Application_[GUID]
They all show "Cannot Upgrade" for the status.
Am I correct in thinking these are what's keeping the status at Upgrade Available?  And if so how can I resolve?
If not, what else can be done to change that Upgrade Available status?
My goal is to get SP2 and the latest CU applied before trying to reinstall the User Profile Service.
    Thank you.

    use psconfig via command line:
    > PSCONFIG.EXE -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait

The model 3,1 can run a maximum of 10.7 Lion. You will need to upgrade to 10.6.8 Snow Leopard first.
You can upgrade from 10.4 straight to 10.6 with no problems. Any program that runs under 10.4 should run under10.6. See this list for compatibility with 10.6: http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/  You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc.... And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any Power PC applications http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_installing_rosetta/
A retail 10.5 Leopard disk will run you around $20
The Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD should still be available at this time from Apple for $19.99. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775 to purchase it. It may still be in the Legacy Products list. The App Store which is required to download 10.7 Lion is part of the 10.6.6 update.
Once you are at 10.6.8 Lion is still available from Apple. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store.  The price is $19.99.
Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

Maybe they've pulled Lion temporarily in order to clear server bandwidth for the expected feeding frenzy over ML?
There's always that possibility but I suspect that any Lion purchases today will be just a drop in the bucket. Still, there really ought to be some provision for those whose Macs can't go beyond Lion to upgrade since continued Snow Leopard support is now in question (the reason I finally moved to Lion).
There are a lot of people complaining that their free upgrade redeem codes for ML aren't working so I bet keeping Lion available is way down on Apple's to-do list.

  • I just upgraded from IPhoto7 to 9.5. Now I can't open iPhoto without a downloaded tool to bridge the gap bewteen versions. I downloaded the tool and I still get the message "To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple."

I had to upgrade to Mavericks to send off the iCanendars I made in iPhoto. Then I had to upgrade my IPhoto from 7 to 9.5. Now when I go to open iPhoto I get the message "To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple."  Well, I installed the Upgrader, but I still get the message and can't open iPhoto.  I have tried restarting the computer, but that didn't help.  How do I get the computer to recognize the Upgrader?

You may get more replies in the iPhoto forum.

  • I currently have Photoshop CS5 standard, and want to updgrade to CS5 Extended to get the 3D capabilities.  Is this possible, I don't see any CS5 upgrades available?

I currently have Photoshop CS5 standard, and want to upgrade to CS5 Extended to get the 3D capabilities.  Is this possible, I don't see any CS5 upgrades available?  I tried to download a new trial version as well, but my current operating system will not support it, so I'd like to stick w/ a version of CS5 that will allow me to work in 3D.  What are my options?

You can upgrade to CS6 extended for $400

  • App Store app indicates new iWork upgrades available after upgrading

Using latest Mavericks on my new (2013) iMac and the App Store app continues to indicate I need to upgrade my iWork apps after I upgrade. Usually takes about 24 hours after I upgrade and then indicates "new upgrades available" for the iWork apps I just upgraded the day before. This only occurs with the iWork apps and has happ[ened several times.
Anyone have any idea how to remedy this?

Mine does the same thing for iMovie, except that it takes a couple of days. Sometimes re-indexing Spotlight will help and sometimes not.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner. I asked them to return the hide update option that used to be there.

Unfortunately reimage of MARS is the only way if you have forgotten the password.

Sorry to hear of your problem, but any hardware in a computer can fail - that includes the hard drive, the logic board, etc, etc. Fortunately, it usually doesn't happen that soon; however, I've read of hard drives failing within 6 months.
So, since you did not purchase the extended Applecare Protection Plan (3 years coverage), you will need to make a decision to repair or sell it as is. I would always purchase 3 year coverage for an all in one or a laptop because repairs are expensive and at least I'd be covered for 3 years.
We can't speculate on whether there should be a recall or not; these forums are for user to user assistance with technical problems. In your case, there is nothing we can help with since you've already gotten a diagnosis.
