Cisco MCS or HP Hardware for Unity/CCM

I am looking at purchasing several new Unity servers, and am trying to understand what benefit there is in purchasing the Cisco version.
For what reason would I purchase a more expensive Cisco MCS rather than the identical HP?
Thanks.

Good question,
Looking from a h/w maintenance perspective, you will have a single telephone number to reach.
This doesnt limit you from buying a approved HP or IBM server. You definitely can, but if you have a failed hard drive or server, you have to call HP instead of IBM. Ofcourse maintenance is not free, there is a per year tag for the same.
You can find the specs of MCS servers here and order an identical one if you want to go that route.

Is it possible to use a MCS-78945-H2-CCX2 for Unity 7.x?
There was an ordering mixup and it is too late to return the server so can I repurpose it for Unity?
What are my options besides UCCX?

No, you can't use it for Unity.

  • Cisco MCS phone capacity

can someone point me in the right direction? I need a Cisco MCS that supports between 100 - 200 IP phones. We need the accounting CDR details of the Call Manager, otherwise we would use Call Manager Express.
    thanks,

I'd probably recommend Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition which runs on a 7828 which is specific for this purpose and also provides integrated Unity Connection and some mobility software on the same box for up to 500 users...

Steve - if the servers are showing blank screen on monitor connected to console, it appears they are not even initialising the POST process. It could be due to a faulty component - could be CPU, RAM, motherboard..anything....
Generally with this kind of issues,  you try to isolate faulty hardware, by rebooting without any component and see if it reaches POST. I would suggest open a case with TAC and I hope the servers have active maintenance.
On another note try changing the monitor cable etc. to rule out any issue with any cable or monitor (which i doubt would be the case) just to make sure and then try a reboot and see if you see anything on screen.

  • Recommended UCS blade for Unity?

The Design Guide for Unity virtualization outlines the templates for Unity on VM but it doesn't mention UCS blade recommendations.
I'm looking to migrate Unity 7.0(2) to UCS/VM and then upgrade to 8.0(3).  The MCS servers aren't worth upgrading memory for the software upgrade, and particularly when we have UCS blades available.
Is there a recommended blade for Unity?
    Thanks,

  • Licensing for Unity Connection after Upgrade from 8.5 to 9.1.2

I upgraded my Unity connection from 8.5.1 to 9.1.2. ( my CUCM is still on 8.5.1) . I have 200 CUWL-STD ( 2200 DLUs), and 50 CUWL-PRO (850 DLUs) . Now I am working with Cisco to get a license file for Unity Connection and apply that to my ELM. I attached my licensing page for when I was in 8.5.1 . Just want to make sure if I will be getting enough license with that license file, or possibly I need to buy more. Someone told me that if I want to have users with mailbox I need to order more licenses since every user take one CUWL license.
Honestly i do not know how CUWL licensing work regardig to Unity or even CUCM.
    Thanks,

  • Where can I get window os 2003 for unity 5.0(1) for MCS7835I1 platform?

    Dear All,
I didn't receive any DVD on window os 2003 for unity 5.0(1) for MCS7835I1 platform for my purchase.
I only have got the IP Telephony OS 2003.1.1 which stated in the document that it is not for Unity.
So I tried to open case to TAC but they asked us to look from Microsoft but I believed that normal window os will not be able to install on MCS sever, am I right? So where actually can I look for this window os?
    Thanks in advance
    Jarunee

    Hi Jarunee,
    You have 2 options:
    1) You purchased the MCS-7835-I1-ECS1, I would expect this one to come with the platform configuration disk (PCD). If you did not get this you will need to contact customer service as outline in this document
    2) You purchased another flavor of this server model such as MCS-7835-I1-IPC1 or directly from IBM. This will not come with the PCD. For this you will not get a PCD and you will need to supply the operating system yourself.
The installation guide covers both scenarios to set up Unity either with PCD or self supplied OS.

  • Is there any limitation of firmware or hardware for QoS configuration (4400 controller & 1252 AP's)

    Hi Experts,
Before proceeding for adding AP model 1131 and 1252 into my set-up , I need to know whether any limitation of firmware or hardware for QoS configuration in wireless set-up .
    I have 4400 controller and 1130 & 1250 AP models.

    Hi Vinod,
Since you have 4400 controllers, you can run upto WLC 7.0.x code. Refer this for more detail
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/compatibility/matrix/compatibility-matrix.html
there is no specific limitation to 1131/1252 AP model as such, everything is WLC software dependent.
From later software 7.4.x,7.6.x,8.x, lots of improvement for QoS configuration & bandwidth control, but since your controller is old hardware, you cannot have those latest features.
here is a reference post on how QoS works in wireless environment

  • Cisco MCS 7825-H3 Powers On, But Nothing More

I have a pair of Cisco MCS 7825-H3 CallManagers, and due to repeated power issues on our campus today, both went down ungracefully went power was lost...and stayed down. So we have no functioning phones on site.
At this point, both MCS 7825-H3's will power on. The hard drives lights flash, then go out (like normal).e The fans spin up fast and loud. But I get nothing else. On the front of the device, the system health LED is solid green, the network LED flashes green with activity, and the hard drive activity LED is solid green. A connected VGA monitor displays nothing.
I am at a standstill...and am not sure if this is a hardware problem, a software problem, or another problem altogether. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thank you,
    Steve

  • How to Use Cisco 3660 or 3745 router for FAx

I want to use Cisco 3660 Router or 3745 Router for Receiving FAX on email. I have NM-2CE1T1-PRI which supports E1 R2 signalling on 3660 and 3745 both. What are the additional hardware requires? Kindly Help.

    Hi,
You could use T.37 Store and forward fax which has the feature called Onramp faxing.
On-ramp faxing, in which a voice gateway that handles incoming calls from a standard fax machine or the PSTN converts a traditional Group 3 fax to an e-mail message with a Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) attachment. The fax e-mail message and attachment are handled by an e-mail server while traversing the packet network and can be stored for later delivery or delivered immediately to a PC or to an off-ramp gateway. Below URL is for detaield config.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/iosswrel/ps1839/products_feature_guide_chapter09186a00800b5dcf.html
You would not require any extra hardware for the same.
    Thanks

  • Unity Data Store for unity 8

    Guys,
Im installing unity 8.0.3  , but unfortunately stuck at " cisco data store" .When i searched google itsays to install "sql server 2005 sp3" or"sql server express 2005 sp3". I installed express , but unity assistant still shows the result as "failed".
Any help from u guys will be appreciatable.

You should take a look at the "Read Me" file as it states that the Unity Data Store DVD for Unity 8 is NOT available for download.  Refer to the following:
Do Not Use the Cisco Unity Data Store 2000 Disc from Cisco Unity 7.x and Earlier to Upgrade to Cisco Unity 8.0
If you are upgrading to Cisco Unity 8.0 and reinstalling software on the Cisco Unity server (for example, because you are replacing the server or upgrading to Windows Server 2003), you must use the Data Store 2000 disc that ships with Cisco Unity 8.0. The Data Store 2000 disc that shipped with earlier versions of Cisco Unity has a different directory structure, and the Cisco Unity System Setup Assistant, which guides you through installing and configuring Cisco Unity 8.0, will not recognize the Data Store 2000 disc that shipped with Cisco Unity 7.x and earlier. (If you paid for an upgrade to SQL Server 2005, we will ship you a Data Store 2005 disc with the rest of your Cisco Unity software.)
The Cisco Unity 8.0 version of the Data Store 2000 disc is not available for download on Cisco.com. To perform an upgrade that requires reinstalling software on the Cisco Unity server, you must either wait for the Cisco Unity 8.0 installation discs to arrive or manually install SQL Server 2000 or MSDE 2000. Manually installing the application is not documented and, therefore, not supported.
There's your answer.  You need to order the upgrade kit from Cisco in order to get the proper DVD.

  • Where can I find mounting rail hardware for single CPU G4 Xserve?

I am wanting to mount my G4 single CPU 1 GHz in a four post rack now where I have a new G5 (keep them all together). I however cannot find the rest of the hardware for it that I got when I bought it several years ago, all I have are the dog ears that I used to mount it in a telco rack.
I've looked on eBay, and a few other places. Surely this is available somewhere? I hope?
    Thanks...

There is no such published reference guide. The closest thing would be the global price list but it's generally not distributed. (What Jouni mentioned was probably an extract of that very large document.)
Due to the broad range of products (and associated bundles and services), Cisco uses online configuration and ordering tools (Cisco Commerce Workspace or CCW) internally and with its partners. The information in it is very dynamic and can change day to day as the tens of thousands of products Cisco offers are introduced, deprecated (i.e., Approaching or at End of Sales), offered in different promotional bundles, etc.
When a Cisco salesperson or partner solution advisor talks with a customer, they take the customer's input and build equipment, software and services configuration sets supporting the proposal. CCW will validate the required items are ordered and generate a configuration set that has not only the product IDs (PIDs, generally referred to as SKUs or Stock Keeping Units in this context) but also the plain language descriptions of what each PID means.
They should be conveying that information to you (or any customer they are engaged with) to enable you to make the informed decision you mention.

  • /RestoreRoutingRule CLI for Unity Connection

I am consolidating several unity 7.2 servers into Unity Connection 8.5.
I have hundreds of routing rules which are in use today which I need to recreate on the Unity Connection server.  I read in  the COBRAs help that I can run the CLI /RestoreRoutingRules to restore the routing rules which is what I would like to test.
In the COBRAS tool, I can not modify the path name of the backup to include the /RestoreRoutingRules so am just wondering how I do this?  If someone can provide a reference or direction on where / how I do this, it would be most helpful.
    Thanks.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by " I can not modify the path name of the backup " - you don't need to - when you run the COBRASImportForConnection.exe, you pass the "/RestoreRoutingRules" option on the command line.  So in other words you can open a command box on your Windows machine where you installed import, go to the directory where you installed it (by default C:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\COBRAS\COBRAS Import for Connection\) and run the tool like this:
    COBRASImportForConnection /RestoreRoutingRules
it'll then offer you the option to include routing rules in your restore (a seperate wizard page will be displayed during the import for this).
You can also add the CLI option via the desktop shortcut if you'd rather but I usually just open a command box for such things.
