Cisco Network Assistant access error
Dear all,
I've just installed Cisco Network Assistant (CNA) on my Windows 7 laptop but whenever I try to start it I get an error message as shown below:
Read/write access problems:
Access is denied
=======================================
Note: Read/write access is required for user home directory and installation directory:
C:\Users\...........
C:\Program Files (x86)\Cisco Systems\Cisco Network Assistant
=======================================
My Windows is 64-bit.
Any ideas on how to sort out this will be appreciated.

i had the same problem and i wasn't willing to open the whole of the programs directory to what username cisco used when installing or when run, so i opt'ed to install in a root directory, make c:\cisco and install there, that way if there's a permissions error I can add what I wanted, but thats how i got mine to work. Install in a different directory, one that you can add read/write permissions to.

I can manage all devices except WS-C2960X-24TS-LL model, I have following message from CNA: "Error: Connect Index: 26, Size:26". This device have same configuration for level 15 access as other devices with user name and password. the catalyst switch IOS version is 15.0(2)EX4

I know the product team monitor the Network Management Forum. If you post your question there, one of them may pick up on it.
The CNA support typically lags the new product release by about 4-6 months, sometimes longer depending on how well the hardware product release matches up with the network management product's latest release date. The 2960XR just started shipping in July 2013 so a good guess would be that CNA might support it in the next release (5.9?). That's just a guess though. -
Cisco Network Assistant access
Hi,
I installed cisco network assistant, but when I try to import a device by entering a specific IP address (HTTP), it prompts for username/password but it doesn't accept them. The weird thing is that when I enter a specific IP address for a switch device, I can access it through CNA.
What exactly shoud I look at the devices' configuration that I cannot access?
Thank you.The device that works in the CNA doen't have the "ip http authentication" enabled. It seems that this is not the issue. When I enter an IP address to the "Connect to" prompt and select the HTTP protocol and Access-mode "Read-only", it prompts for Username/ Password for "level_15_access", but it doesn't accept them.

Cisco Network Assistant cast error (vlan)
Hello,
As we have a new Catalyst 2960XS PoE in our network I upgraded the CNA 5.2 to version 5.7 (6) keeping my old configuration. Then I added the 2960XS and it is working fine. But now, when I try to configure any port's VLAN of one of our old switches (Catalyst 3508G-XL and both of our Catalyst 3548-XL) I am not able to do it anymore. It just shows the error this message :

We have the same error message with CNA 5.8(6) on Cisco Catalys 3548XL IOS 12.0(5)WC17.

Cisco Network Assistant MAC auth issue
I have few Autonomous Access Points all managed by the Cisco Network Assistant. Users have access to wireless only based on MAC authentication.
Every once in a while the wireless access to the Access-Point fails and the following error is showed in the Cisco Network Assistant.
ERROR: The MAC address filter 700 used for association access was not created by the web interface and cannot be displayed.

WARNING: Filter 700 was configured on interface Dot11radio 0.170 using CLI. It must be cleared via CLI to ensure proper operation of the web interface.
The Network Admin does not use CLI but this problem keeps coming. To fix this problem I had cleared the access-list 700 via CLI and created a new access-list 700 via Cisco Network Assistant. Adding all the MAC's each time the network goes down is a cumbersome process. Is there a solution for this?

error snapshot attached.I have some site admins that use CNA. I just upgraded their LAN to 3560v2 switches running 12.2(58)SE2 and had them upgrade their CNA software to CNA 5.7(6). They reported the same error.
I think you clearly indentified the problem. At one time the IOS command parser accepted both "show mac-address" and "show mac address". At some point IOS stopped accepting the older "show mac-address" format, and CNA is still issuing this command regardless of the IOS version it is trying to manage. -
Cisco Network Assistant for multiple access
Hi All,
hopefully this is the right place to post this. We've been looking into Cisco Network Assistant for our "help desk" (all 3 of them) and I was wondering if it is possible to configure CNA for a shared environment.. With that I mean the application will run on a Windows Terminal Server and all 3 users should be able to access it. Currently I've only seen it running localy and each user has to create or import the setting from another user. This is fine until something changes in the enviorenment and that changes are only saved in the local users configuration.
any ideas if something like this is possible with CNA?

DanYou may have already figured out then where CNA stores it's localized files - in %userdir%/.networkassistant (hidden from view by default).
You could probably hack the system by manually copying (or scripting a copy) between the respective help desk users' directories but it would be an unsupported setup.
You'd also potentially face problems of revision synchronization in the event of multiple users making independent changes - whose is the "right one"? -
Cisco Network Assistant, unable to add a switch
I have a network running some 20 switches, two controllers and many AP's. All the devices that should be able to connect to cisco network assistant can successfully. However there is one switch that will show in neighbours but will give the message of “unable to connect to device” when I try and add it to the topology.
As far as I can see the config is identically to all other similar switches in the network. I can telnet from a switch (management VLAN) to the switch in question. However when I try to ping or telnet from the PC running network assistant (different subnet) I am unsuccessful. However I can ping/telnet to all other cisco device from this PC.
The switch is a WS-C3560-48TS and I have included the config for firstly the switch in question and another switch of the same model and config that works correctly. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

endThe switch configurations look pretty straightforward and mostly correct.
I notice that the problem switch has "ip routing" global command. Why is that necessary? You are only using it as a L2 switch, yes? If you use "ip routing" and have no routing process (ospf, eigrp, etc.) running you would need to add a static default route (ip route 0.0.0.0 etc.) and not use the "ip default-gateway" command. Otherwise the switch itself (the SVI) does not know how to leave the management VLAN routing-wise since it is the only L3 interface defined.
(I might also add "ip http authentication local" on each and I'd definitely disable telnet in favor of ssh) -
Wrong Port Statistics in Cisco Network Assistant
Hello,
I'm having some troubles with CNA (version 6.0). There's a few switches in the network that displays wrong information about sports activities/statistics. I've got some ports administratively down, without activity, however CNA is showing Tx and Rx rates, etc. I've already cleared counters from the application and from CLI too. If I do "show interface Gix/x/x" in the CLI, it returns results that I waited, but not in CNA, where it's showing wrong information. Moreover, some ports which should have activity and statistics, don't displays info. All rates and statistics shows 0 when I'd must see any number except 0.
I'm talking about a stack with 3 Catalyst 3750-X 48P.

Kind regards,In Cisco Network Assistant, under smart ports, if I configure the switch port as Cisco Wireless/Router, it hard codes the interface as Trunk.In this particular case what is the reason for hard coding it as trunk?
When you are dealing with autonomous wireless access point, it's very common to have mutiple VLANs configured in the WAP, therefore you need a Trunk switch port.
You can also configure the trunk port to allow VLANs of your choice. -
Cisco Network Assistant doesn't start correctly

We've been replacing our 'old' Catalyst 3550 boxes with 3750 Switches, and since the web-interface on these are 'a bit lacking' in functionality(to say the least), we figured that CNA(downloaded latest version) would be just the thing...
Except, when we try to start it, we get this message:

Now, my PC is set up according to 'best practices' for a SECURE NETWORKED PC In an office environment.
In other words, my user doesn't have write access to any folder in the %Program Files% areas, and that's the way we like to keep it...
So, Who goofed up the software, and how do I get around it without compromising the security of my PC?That is NOT a solution.
The reason why a user shouldn't have write access to the \program files\ folder is that it contains EXECUTABLE BINARIES, which many virii likes to infect.
Moving the install to another folder and giving a user write access to that just moves the problem to another place.
What COULD help is a list of subfolders(which doesn't contain binaries or other easily-infected files) or files which the program needs to have write access to, or an updated version which stores its config data somewhere else... -

If I click the "Connect As..." button it asks for a username and password.
I've experienced connecting to other user's computers on a network. To gain access to their computer, I just use their username and password. I've done this before to transfer files without using a flash drive or burned disk.
I'm trying to find out what I'm supposed to log on as to gain access to this device...

Cisco network assistant username
hi everyone !
i have two stacked 3750 and i use cisco network assistant for remote access.
i have created a user witch the following command :
username <myusername> privilege 15 password 0 <mypassword>
i would like to force the use of that username/password for network assistant : i can currently login with my enable password (without username), and that is something i do not want.
it would be great if someone could help me doing this

i've seen just now that network assistant access the stack with HTTP.
is there any mean to limit HTTP access to one user ?

Cisco Network Assistant 5.5 and WS-X4013+10GE
I have installed CNA 5.5 and it works fine with most of the devices, including catalyst 4500 series with different supervisors (WS-X4013+, WS-X4013+TS, WS-X45 SUP6-E).
It can also detect supervisor WS-X4013+10GE, but CNA failed to show this device in Front Panel View. Is there anything I have to do to make the devices with Supervisor WS-X4013+10GE to be shown in Front Panel View?
WS-X4013+10GE are in either 4503 or 4506 chassis, running IOS version 12.2(31)SGA or 12.2(40)SG.
Please give some hints, thanks.

To overcome this problem, open the file C:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\CiscoSMB\Cisco Network Assistant\startup\startup.properties (the default installation path), and modify this entry:
JVM_MAXIMUM_HEAP=1024m
Replace 1024m with a lower setting that does not exceed the available RAM. There is no way to foresee what value will work. Try 512m, and lower it further if necessary. You can use the dial peer tag range 2500 to 2999 out-of-band to define your own dial peers.

i have big network of cisco switches and all is in my cisco network assistant in comunity connected via HTTPS. if i add new switch to network (all for HTTPS access is configured good: domain name, ip http secure-server, authenticate locale ...) and if i can add this switch to comunity (right click on icon and ADD TO COMUNITY), CNA say "Unable to Connect", because it can connect to switch via HTTP (i have disable it on switch), not via HTTPS. i have never version of CNA ... where is problem? why it not connect to switch via HTTPS? hmmm? thank you ... You can put an access-list on the http server if you are concerned about security exposure. -
Cisco Network Assistant mail notification
We just install CNA ver 5.5. and we setup the mail alerting from logging level 3 (Errors) to avoid too much notifications but we get mail informing us about interface up/down due simple machine shutdown/reboot like this one:

Cisco Network Assistant - Health Monitor Not Showing Bandwidth Utilization
Hello,
Ive setup a new network with 3x 2960 and 2x 3650 switches, trying to view the bandwidth utilization per switch in cisco network assistant in the health monitor unfortunatly it show 0%. I know there is alot of traffic passing through the switches, the other monitors are working correctly (temp, ram and cpu). Is there any special settings that are needed in the switch?
