Cisco Network Assistant (CNA) 5.6 is launched

Hi Netpro community! I am very pleased to announce the general availability of Cisco Network Assistant version 5.6.
While we wish CNA was available sooner, we know there is a lot of pent up demand for device support for the 2960-S, 3750-X, and many new 4k devices. Even without a release for approximately 18 months, CNA had over 100,000 downloads in 2010 and 2009, and we hope to see that number climb with the popularity of Cisco's new fixed and modular switches. Thanks for your patience and we hope you enjoy and utilize the simple, intuitive network management CNA provides.
If you have any feedback on the product or questions, please feel free to contact me at [email protected]

Hi Robert,
I think your initiative to post a message here, anouncing a new version, is a very good one.
I have had multiple times where a new version of a product had appeared on CCO but I missed it.
A generic place (feed) where new NMS releases are anounced would be quite helpfull for me.
Cheers,
Michel

  • Cisco Network Assistant (CNA) 2960X Support

    Hi Folks,
The 2960X datasheet indicates that it supports Cisco Network Assistant (CNA), but when I tried it with CNA 5.8.7 it was not compatible. The release notes for 5.8.7 did not include the 2960X as a  supported device.
    CNA 5.8.7 Release Notes:
    https://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps6406/qa_c67-577519.pdfhttp://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/cisco_network_assistant/version5_0/release/notes/OL12210a.html
Can someone confirm if CNA will have support for the 2960X series in the future and if possible provide some guidelines on timing?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    You're welcome.
I know the product team monitor the Network Management Forum. If you post your question there, one of them may pick up on it.
The CNA support typically lags the new product release by about 4-6 months, sometimes longer depending on how well the hardware product release matches up with the network management product's latest release date. The 2960XR just started shipping in July 2013 so a good guess would be that CNA might support it in the next release (5.9?). That's just a guess though.

  • Cisco Network Assistant (CNA) 5.6 release planned for late Jan. '11

Hi NetPro users! While we wish we had been able to support these devices sooner, we do finally have a release scheduled to support the Catalyst 2960s, 3750x, 3560x, and several 4k devices as well.
Additionally, we have an early field trial going on right now that will allow you to access the image sooner than the late January release date. As testing progresses, we will announce a more firm release date.

  • Cisco Network Assistant(CNA) not connecting to access points.

When I create a community with CNA, it finds the 2960 switch and connects to it.  However it shows "connection failed" for all the 702i access points.  Not sure why it shows connection failed.  Any help would be appreciated.
Also, if I try to connect directly to the access point thru CNA, it says not accessible.
    Thanks.
    Jim

It will be helpful for other community members to know the solution and cause, if can be shared.

  • Cisco Network Assistant access error

    Dear all,
I've just installed Cisco Network Assistant (CNA) on my Windows 7 laptop but whenever I try to start it I get an error message as shown below:
    Read/write access problems:
    Access is denied
    =======================================
Note: Read/write access is required for user home directory and installation directory:
    C:\Users\...........
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Cisco Systems\Cisco Network Assistant
    =======================================
    My Windows is 64-bit.
Any ideas on how to sort out this will be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Davis M Onsakia

i had the same problem and i wasn't willing to open the whole of the programs directory to what username cisco used when installing or when run, so i opt'ed to install in a root directory, make c:\cisco and install there, that way if there's a permissions error I can add what I wanted, but thats how i got mine to work. Install in a different directory, one that you can add read/write permissions to.

  • Software Cisco Network Assistant for Switch SMB?

Is there any management software as the Cisco Network Assistant for smb switch as SLM224G or SRW224G4-K9-NA, or only works with models 2960 and higher?

The SX300 series switch will work with CCA. But it does not work with CNA.

  • Can't create VLAN's with Cisco Network Assistant

    Hello everyone
I have a problem with my newest Switch, a WS-C2960X-48TS-L
Normaly I can programm all my Switches with Cisco Network Assistant. But now I have a problem with creating VLAN's. I can create them, safe them but after a refresh, all the new VLAN's are gone!
I updated the CNA to the newest Build 6.0 and updated the Switch to 15.2(2)E, but nothing helps!
Over the CLI I can do everything, but this is not a option for me! To programm sometimes a switch CNA is perfect for me! If it works!!
    Thanks
    Tobi

yes I can programm the vlan's over CLI. That's works. I have not tested this if its really works, but the VLAN's are programmed.
hmm I checked the STP / VTP settings with a second identical Switch, but there are no differents. Made a backup of one Switch and restore on the other One, but I'm still not able to create VLAN's.
however, I contacted my vendor today, he tell me that it shouldt be a problem to take back the switch.
    Best regards

  • ESW-520-24-K9 and Cisco Network Assistant

    HI,
Is this switch model ESW-520-24-K9 is supported by Cisco Network Assistant.
In the leatest release notes of CNA are supported Catalyst Express 520 Series Switches and this model WS-CE520-24TT-K9 is on the supported list.
But the mention model above is EoL and the new one is ESW-520-24-K9.
    Thanks,
    Kamil

    Hi Dave,
    Thanks for your replay.
Yes, you are right that this switch model is supported by CCA but not by Cisco Network Assistant.
These programs are different in functionality.
The situation has become clearer, since the customer bought the Cisco Catalyst 2960 series switch.

  • Wrong Port Statistics in Cisco Network Assistant

    Hello,
I'm having some troubles with CNA (version 6.0). There's a few switches in the network that displays wrong information about sports activities/statistics. I've got some ports administratively down, without activity, however CNA is showing Tx and Rx rates, etc. I've already cleared counters from the application and from CLI too. If I do "show interface Gix/x/x" in the CLI, it returns results that I waited, but not in CNA, where it's showing wrong information. Moreover, some ports which should have activity and statistics, don't displays info. All rates and statistics shows 0 when I'd must see any number except 0.
    I'm talking about a stack with 3 Catalyst 3750-X 48P.

    Thanks,
    Kind regards,

In Cisco Network Assistant, under smart ports, if I configure the switch port as Cisco Wireless/Router, it hard  codes the interface as Trunk. In this particular case what is the reason for hard coding it as trunk?
When you are dealing with autonomous wireless access point, it's very common to have mutiple VLANs configured in the WAP, therefore you need a Trunk switch port.
You can also configure the trunk port to allow VLANs of your choice.

  • Are the SG500P SMB switchs supported for Cisco Network Assistant?

Hi, we need to enroll some SG500-28P switches to a CNA? Is this possible? I suppose that CDP feature allow this. Actually, i have installed CNA Ver. 6.0. Thanks in advance.

  • Cisco Network Assistant doesn't start correctly

    Hi!
    A bit of background:
We've been replacing our 'old' Catalyst 3550 boxes with 3750 Switches, and since the web-interface on these are 'a bit lacking' in functionality(to say the least), we figured that CNA(downloaded latest version) would be just the thing...
Except, when we try to start it, we get this message:
    Read/write access problems:
    Ingen tilgang
    =======================================
Note: Read/write access is required for user home directory and installation directory:
    C:\Documents and Settings\BOFH
    C:\Programfiler\Cisco Systems\Cisco Network Assistant
    =======================================
'Ingen adgang' is Norwegian for 'No access'.
Also, I've altered my profile name in the message(No need to give away login name, is there? :-)
Now, my PC is set up according to 'best practices' for a SECURE NETWORKED PC In an office environment.
In other words, my user doesn't have write access to any folder in the %Program Files% areas, and that's the way we like to keep it...
So, Who goofed up the software, and how do I get around it without compromising the security of my PC?

    That is NOT a solution.
The reason why a user shouldn't have write access to the \program files\ folder is that it contains EXECUTABLE BINARIES, which many virii likes to infect.
Moving the install to another folder and giving a user write access to that just moves the problem to another place.
What COULD help is a list of subfolders(which doesn't contain binaries or other easily-infected files) or files which the program needs to have write access to, or an updated version which stores its config data somewhere else...

    Hi Luis,
    Few questions :
    - is it the same on all machines you tested CNA on ?
    - is this an upgrade from a previous (and working) version ?
    - is it the English version of Windows, or a localized one ?

  • Cisco Network Assistant MAC auth issue

I have few Autonomous Access Points all managed by the Cisco Network Assistant. Users have access to wireless only based on MAC authentication.
Every once in a while the wireless access to the Access-Point fails and the following error is showed in the Cisco Network Assistant.
ERROR: The MAC address filter 700 used for association access was not created by the web interface and cannot be displayed.
    also
WARNING: Filter 700 was configured on interface Dot11radio 0.170 using CLI. It must be cleared via CLI to ensure proper operation of the web interface.
The Network Admin does not use CLI but this problem keeps coming. To fix this problem I had cleared the access-list 700 via CLI and created a new access-list 700 via Cisco Network Assistant. Adding all the MAC's each time the network goes down is a cumbersome process. Is there a solution for this?
    Thanks in advance
    error snapshot attached.

I have some site admins that use CNA.  I just upgraded their LAN to 3560v2 switches running 12.2(58)SE2 and had them upgrade their CNA software to CNA 5.7(6).  They reported the same error.
I think you clearly indentified the problem.  At one time the IOS command parser accepted both "show mac-address" and "show mac address".  At some point IOS stopped accepting the older "show mac-address" format, and CNA is still issuing this command regardless of the IOS version it is trying to manage.
